This podcast, hosted by Brett J. Wade, PhD, explores a wide range of topics but particularly focused on how we manage those tough times when all you want to do is "chew on glass." The guests are people who have experienced mental health challenges and have resonated with the feeling of "wanting to chew glass" but manage those feelings through healthier means. "Chewin' glass" is a metaphor which describes my feelings when I am overwhelemed, stressed, and emotional. It has nothing to do with actually wanting to chew glass but rather an intense sensation requiring an immediate solution.

Garry "Crackers" McCracken is a friend and fellow "glass chewer." Garry is a great story teller and his life story is colorful one. Garry talks about his time growing up in a military family, joining the military and becoming an engineer, and then his career both in the military and as a civilian. As this podcast is about the strategies we use to deal with mental health challenges, Garry delivers an honest and emotional account of his struggles and triumphs. Garry likes to say, "I have lived a privileged life. Not a life of privilege!" Garry has lived and travelled all over the world and has been an observer of history in many places and has had the opportunity to learn from great people and to become friends with many of them. He says, "Now, in my later years, I have a new privilege, to pay back society for the gifts that have been given to me. I enjoy helping people. I enjoy giving back! I don't have a lot of money, so I work to raise money or to improve the lives of others. I was once asked if there was a limit to what I would do to raise money for charity or help others. My answer then was: I will do anything as long as it is legal, ethical and won't hurt anyone. Nothing has changed since then." Buckle your seatbelts friends, this interview is a roller coaster or emotion. Enjoy! Brett
