This episode gives advice on how to overcome fear of public speaking, and how to become a confident public speaker. I tell you a little bit about my own journey, and my very rocky start as a public speaker in school, at university and in work circumstances.
I tell you what helped me to improve, and how I slowly managed to rid myself of the crippling fear of public speaking and presenting, to a point where it is now something I enjoy and do for a living.
My three main points circle around the following:
Prepare (read: over-prepare!) and practice to increase your self-confidence
Actively seek out MORE opportunities that scare you and make you feel uncomfortable
Find an honest mentor who pushes and supports to towards growth
I talk a little bit about my childhood in Germany, and growing up and going to school in Norway – so if you want to just hear a bit more about some horrific presentation and public speaking events during my younger years, this is the episode for you! I also touch on my development as a public speaker and presenter at conferences, and how I use and refine my skills for work purposes now.

Episode 9 – Preparing to start a new degree
This episode gives helpful tips that make it easier to get organised and set up before the start of a new degree, or semester! In particular, 9 areas are discussed (I know in the episode I talk about 10 points, but clearly have to practice how to count!!):
Paperwork associated with becoming a student
Accommodation search and commuting
Welcome info and what to do with it
Timetable and making a diary
Reading list and books
Making a nutrition plan for the semester
Quality time with family and friends
Tie up loose ends in the home
Tie up loose ends at work
If you’re particularly eager, sit down with pen and paper (or a virtual notepad) and make a to do list of things that apply to you. You can also find a visual presentation of this episode on the @unidoneright_podcast Instagram handle.

Episode 8 – What I would do differently during my undergraduate degree
This episode dissects my time as an undergraduate student critically, and I provide insight into some areas where I could have improved or gotten more out of my time as an undergraduate student.
Specifically, I talk about my time as school president and sports team captain, and what I would do differently after reflecting on my experiences a decade later.
I discuss the opportunity to study abroad, and why I think this is something students should look into during their time as an undergraduate student.
I also explain why I wish I would have not cared so much about what other people think of myself or my actions, and why I wish I would have started journaling a decade earlier.
I describe journaling as a feedback loop where you can check in with yourself regularly and adjust your sails if you find you’re heading not quite where you’d like to go. Journaling can help you to practice self-evaluation, reflection and self-awareness. It can help you to ‘catch yourself early’ – before you know it you have a decade worth of reflection to do..!

This episode dismantles some of the issues that keep us from achieving our goals, be that at University, in fitness or in life in general. It dives into the process of transforming a wish into a goal, and the magic that happens in order to achieve that.
The episode breaks down goal setting, identifying milestones, and appropriate planning and scheduling to reach long- and short-term goals.
We chat about a ‘just do it’ mentality, and the reason why discipline is part of self-care, and might sometimes get a bad reputation for no reason. Most importantly, it is explained how RESULTS can drive motivation, and motivation drives results. The hardest part is to find a way to join this flow of success through discipline and the ability to trust and believe in yourself.

Studying at university can be an overwhelming experience for a lot of students, for may reasons. As a lecturer, feeling ‘overwhelmed’ is one of the main concerns I heard from students in the past.
Unfortunately, the curriculum is set, and despite students feeling overwhelmed, little can be done from the academic side. Deadlines are fairly rigid, the timetable won’t change, and assessment standards will not be amended.
However, I suggest that when digging deeper and taking accountability of their lives, students can make changes outside of their learning commitments that will have an immediate positive effect on their learning and performance.
This episode addresses overarching problems that can be addressed to create more focus and headspace for studying at University, and each of five suggestions is presented with a specific task that can be actioned to reduce feeling overwhelmed.
The five areas addressed are:
Establishing priorities
Not caring about what others think
Surrounding yourself with people who inspire you
Taking care of mental and physical health
Organised diary and daily structure

The first full episode is dedicated to the anatomy students I taught last semester; I was unable to talk at their careers conference and their student society event and therefore decided to record this podcast for them. The information in this podcast will be helpful for students of other degrees as well but aims specifically to discuss career options after obtaining an undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Human Anatomy in the UK in depth.

Episode 1 – Welcome and Introduction to the podcast
I introduce myself to the listeners, speak about my main three pet peeves, and talk about the qualifications and professional experiences that allow me to advise students on how to excel at university.
We talk about what a ‘hack’ really is, and what ‘living your best life’ means. Some thoughts and comments on living with a peaceful mind, living with fulfilment and building meaningful relationships in life aim to provide an insight into what you can expect to take away from the episodes of this podcast.
“The greatest danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.” Michelangelo
