Twenty Minute Collaborations is focused on finding ways we can collaborate better together. Each guest shares a story about a time they had a common goal with others. Most stories describe moments we would never label as collaborations even though they are. From the stories, we find wonderful lessons how we can create more impactful collaborations. This journey with Gregg Potter will bring laughs, surprises, and connecting in a way we all need more of.

We're back! Gregg and our team has been learning new software but now we're here. This first episode post hiatus is with the phenomenal Lynn Borton. Lynn producer & host of Choose to Be Curious, a show all about curiosity, The show is nationally-syndicated and recently won the Alliance for Community Media’s Hometown Media Award for “Best Audio Programming by an Independent Producer”. Lynn describes herself as a "facilitator of conversation and transformation”. She has more than 30 years of experience in strategic governance and change management in the non-profit sector. Much of her career was at NAMI - National Alliance on Mental Illness - ultimately as COO for 10+ years.
The conversation centers in a long-term family collaboration that we can all take something from.

She has a bachelors degree from UW-Madison in Community Nonprofit Leadership, is a graduate of the Associates in Commercial Real Estate (ACRE) program out of Milwaukee, and was named one of InBusiness 40 Under 40 in 2021.
Saran has over 15 years of experience in the financial institution industry and uses her financial knowledge to create curriculums and workshops to help underrepresented young adults and those from low-income communities make good financial decisions, and educate the community on how to build generational wealth.

In this week's episode, Gregg welcomes Mai J. Lo Lee, a long-time friend and collaborator. They discuss the importance of collaboration and Mai's journey from their college days to her current role in diversity, equity, and inclusion work. Mai shares insights from her experience growing up as a Hmong ginseng farmer and how it has shaped her approach to collaboration. She emphasizes the significance of recognizing and respecting individual needs when creating inclusive spaces. Mai also discusses the value of humility, continuous learning, and the importance of inviting diverse perspectives to the table. Mai J. Lo Lee (she, her, hers) has worked in advocacy, diversity, equity, and inclusion for the past 15+ years. She is active in her local community and the state of Wisconsin.
Recently, Mai was awarded the prestigious Women of Influence Award where she was recognized as a Difference Maker – Community by Insight on Business. In 2021, Mai was appointed to serve on Governor Evers Advisory Council on Equity and Inclusion for the State of Wisconsin, and in 2020, Mai was named one of Wisconsin’s Most Influential Asian American Leaderships by Madison 365. In addition, Mai has been recognized and received many awards for her excellence in community outreach, collaborative achievement, and professional pursuits.
Mai is active in her regional community and the state of Wisconsin. Mai sits on the board of directors for the Wisconsin Public Radio Association, Green Bay Botanical Garden, and Toward One Wisconsin (T1W) Statewide Conference planning committee.
In her spare time, Mai loves to hike the many trails of Wisconsin and is an active cyclist on her Peloton. She enjoys reading and writing, doing D-I-Y home projects and her many attempts to organize her home. Born in the Ban Vinai Refugee Holding Center in the Loei Province of northeastern Thailand, Mai was raised in Central Wisconsin with her nine siblings and both parents on a farm where her family raised chickens and grew ginseng. She now calls the Fox Cities her home where she and her partner raise their child.

Adam is the author of Solving Tough Problems, about which Nelson Mandela said: “This breakthrough book addresses the central challenge of our time: finding a way to work together to solve the problems we have created.” Kahane is also the author of Power and Love, Transformative Scenario Planning, Collaborating with the Enemy, and Facilitating Breakthrough.

In today's episode, Gregg had the privilege of sitting down with Tanya, a remarkable Leadership Coach who has an inspiring story to share.
Tanya is a Leadership Coach who came to coaching after years and years in an outwardly successful but ultimately unsatisfying career in advertising. She logged the hours, delivered the goods, and shook the hands of satisfied clients time and again. She kept waiting for the deep-seated feelings of accomplishment and satisfaction to arrive, but they didn't.
She also suffered, a lot, from a myriad of "not good enough, not smart enough, not ready" beliefs. Any success she enjoyed, she chalked up to someone else having made a mistake. She thought it was just a matter of time before they found out she was a fake.
As it turned out, Tanya had been suffering from the Imposter Complex. (You too? You're in exquisite company). She just couldn't quite get out of the rut.
It took the passing of her mother to get her "unstuck." After her mother left, Tanya heard — really heard — her lifelong mantra for the first time: Don’t Postpone Joy.

Award-winning actress Ann Walker is best known as one of the stars of the very popular LOGO TV series "SORDID LIVES-THE SERIES" as LaVonda Dupree. Ms. Walker reprised the role which she originated in Del Shores 1996 play and 2001 movie by the same name. She originated the role of Odette Annette Barnett in Southern Baptist Sissies, receiving the LA Drama Critics Award and an Ovation nomination for her work. Nephresha Singletary is a Business & Career Coach, Founder of the Ambitious Women of Color Association, and Cooking Lesson Instructor.
Nephresha received her BA in Advertising from Pepperdine University, and has had over two decades of management and leadership experience. She was in management with Starbucks Coffee Company for almost a decade before starting her own business teaching cooking lessons in 2014.
Her cooking lessons turned into becoming a personal chef and wellness coach. As a way to expand her network she founded the Ambitious Women of Color Meetup group in 2018, which now has almost 1800 members.
This community expanded her passion for Women of Color being in more positions of power, influence, leadership, and wealth, so in March of 2021 she founded the Ambitious Women of Color Association, which is a community focused on business and professional networking. Her coaching practice now focuses on Career and Business consulting as well.
In 2020 she retired from cheffing to be able to focus on her Three Pillars of Passion: Coaching, Ambitious Women of Color, and Cooking Lessons.

Welcome to Twenty Minute Collaborations before it was a podcast. When Gregg had this idea, it was still very much in the heart of the pandemic. One day on his porch, he invited Jeff Burkhart to record. This is their conversation with a lot of background noise. Please show grace for that. The format was not decided so the questions are asked a little differently. There is a story though. And it revolves around the importance of trust and how trust is created.
Jeff is the Executive Director of the Literacy Network in Madison, WI. He is genuine and transformational leader and a terrific fundraiser. He has a loving partner and she adds to how adventurous and free thinking Jeff is. Jeff is a dog dad and a very talented musician. He has a new album coming out later in May, 2022.

We took a week off so Gregg could collect himself after a wild and impactful project in South Africa. This week he invited the phenomenal Mary Beth Collins on to share a story that happened to take 25 years to accomplish these very large goals. Mary Beth Collins has experience as a mom, executive director, attorney, teacher, writer, volunteer, family member, and friend. Her career is focused on the "third sector", including mission-based enterprises, community efforts, and civil society. She is also a passionate connoisseur of and champion of "third places" which sustain human connections, enrichment, and expression.
This episode dives deep into some great topics around collaboration when we don't always have the same goals as the other actors. In typical Gregg fashion, the show goes a little over to reveal the best lesson of the entire conversation. We hope you enjoy!

This is a 30 minute conversation. This week Neena Viel joins Gregg on the podcast and shares a story of an Intentional Collaboration that did not have the desired outcome. You could say it was magical.
Neena lives in Seattle, Washington with her husband and dog child. She is an accomplished debater and orator. She is a soon to be published writer with a new novel coming out later this year. She is currently the Development & Communications Director at Northwestern Education Access. Northwest Education Access provides comprehensive and individualized support to help low-income young people, ages 16-29, build their own path to higher education and beyond.

What happens when two close friends don't follow the rules of telling a specific story? This episode. Gregg has the talented and brilliant Sara Alvarado on this episode and they talk about OWN IT: Building Black Wealth. In discussing the process for how the program came to be, Sara and Gregg dive into some really important lessons about process and the beginning steps to an intentional collaboration.
Sara Alvarado lives in Madison, WI where she runs the Alvarado Real Estate Group with her husband. She also has created other game changing organizations like Step Up: Equity Matters and Alez for Alzheimer's. She is a mom of two and a very handsome French Bulldog.

We thought it would be fun to record a couple episodes but didn't know when we would release them. So, we are giving them to you now; both at the same time. This story about car trouble also deals with lake effect snow. We will not explain it to you. If you are dying to know, we imagine you know how to Google. Alex and Dan are very courageous with sharing their stories.
Alexander Miranda is a pediatric eye surgeon. There is probably a more scientific name for what he does because he primarily works on infants and toddlers. You hear in the story that he is from Cleveland, Ohio. We did not tell you where Dan is from, but if you'd like to know, he is from Central, Illinois. They both live in Madison, Wisconsin. Alex is also a singer, love trivia, and, as you'll hear, is really great at puns.

Part 1 is a story from Dan Lutz. Dan has a background in finance and spent a large portion of his professional career working in insurance. When he turned 30, he wanted to change paths and find ways to create a larger positive impact. Dan became a team lead for AmeriCorps NCCC and that experience changes his entire trajectory. His story comes from his year with AmeriCorps. Dan now works in nonprofit fundraising for United Way.

We've been holding this conversation until now. It was Gregg's birthday week and it was the perfect time to share this birthday story. Our brilliant guest this week was the force, Carolina Bailey. Carolina is a professor at Madison College. With her drive and talents, Carolina received a PhD from the University of Wisconsin Madison for Second Language Acquisition and Linguistics. She is also one of the owners and lead facilitators of Step Up Equity Matters. She was born in Colombia and lives in Madison with her husband and daughter.

We are so excited to share this late night conversation with Michele Caputo and Gregg. They sip their drinks and dive into a story about greatness coming out of a good collaboration. They examine the importance of listening and when emotion is important and when it should be removed from the collaboration.
Michele is a "long-time worker." She knows the corporate world extremely well but what she knows best is people. She has also had incredible side projects such as Travel in the 2nd Degree and is currently working on Half the National Average (@halfthenationalaverage).

For the first episode of Twenty Minute Collaborations, we invite one of Gregg's besties, Dina Nina Martinez. Dina is a comedian, actress, speaker, entrepreneur, and activist. Dina has received many accolades for her work and because of it, is known as one of the top trans-comedians working today.
The story she shares is definitely an action most of us have had to do multiple times in our life. The collaboration lessons pulled out of the story are definitely a surprise to Dina.
