Welcome to the podcast where digital policies are made understandable! The Portugal Tech League explains and elaborates on new tech and legislative proposals impacting startups and the whole innovation ecosystem economy. We work in cycles: every two months, a new topic is in the spotlight to be easily framed (ok, with some tweaks) by Alisson Avila and Carlos Lopes alongside special guests - maybe you'd be the next? Be part of it: read, listen, share, suggest, propose, comment, become a member: www.portugaltechleague.eu #portugaltechleague
Our third episode is dedicated to the Startup Nations Standard. This political initiative identifies the eight-best practice policies that are hallmarks of a growth-friendly environment for startups and scaleups. It was designed to have a major impact on the EU Startup ecosystem, notably by helping foster a unified one. And after having conducted an ecosystem survey that was able to gather around 40 responses, whose report can be consulted on Portugal Tech League's website, join us in learning the context of the initiative, its implications, and what are the market expectations.
Au contraire to our first episode on the Artificial Intelligence Act, our second one successfully resisted movie references to avoid having to rate the movie “the Social Network”. Instead, we went straight to one of the major updates in Europe’s digital rules, the Digital Services Act, which - like us - refrains from rating the movie, but - unlike us - rates and aims to govern the business model. As well as others. It is big, ambitious, and will have profound effects on digital advertising, online content moderation, and technology investment. Join us in learning what is at stake for your online service or platform, with our guests, António Dias Martins (Executive Director of Startup Portugal, a non-profit organization with the mission of promoting entrepreneurship and innovation in Portugal), and Nuno Sousa e Silva (Lawyer and Assistant Professor at Porto Law School of the Portuguese Catholic University).
Our first episode is dedicated to cheap philosophy, movie references and, of course, Artificial Intelligence: a quite fascinating, yet often demonized topic. A paradox we see reflected in the discussions of the draft version of the AI Act, published by the European Commission last April, which is meant to act as a statement with global reach on AI. Understand the proposal and its impact on startups and the digital economy alongside our guest interviewees Magda Cocco (partner of Vieira de Almeida, a leading law firm in Portugal) and Benedikt Blomeyer (Director for EU policy at Allied for Startups, a worldwide network focused on startup policy).
