The realities for a female founder;
- 3% of all the Venture Capital funding in the USA went to women, only 8% went to founding teams with both men and women and a whooping 89% supported teams of purely male founders. (Crunchbase)
- Well maybe it's the USA that has the problem... let's take a look at the UK. 1% of the funds invested in 2017 went to female founded teams. (British Business Bank)
- Globally, in 2020 83% of Venture Capital deals involved founding teams with no women. Funny, I thought women were the majority in the population and the more entrepreneurial gender.
- Women form 70-80% of all consumer goods purchases. They are the major buyers!
- How can women influence a platform they are not on? Currently 9/100 of the top VC's are run by women and in terms of funding discussions, only 11% of the top deciders world-wide are women.
- Many studies show that 90% of VC's are white men and they are prone to fund other males (mostly fellow white men), 1% are Latin American and 3% are black.
- VC's invest 35 times as much in any idea pitched by a man than they do in one pitched by a woman. (MarketWatch)
- In the USA, only 2% of 85 BILLION DOLLARS raised from VC's went to Female Founded teams.
- Further, data has shown that when women do raise capital they raise much smaller rounds! Men averages are $12 million and women average rounds are $5 million.
- BLACK WOMEN STATISTICS ARE APPALLING! (Allow me to write this in capital letters so it sinks in). BLACK WOMEN RAISED 0.0006% OF THE $424.7 Billion IN TECH FUNDING SINCE 2007. Further while average funding is $1.14 million for most startups, BLACK WOMEN RAISED $42,000 IN COMPARISON. (entrepreneur.com)
However, the reason why the above statistics are puzzling to me is;
- Companies that have a female founder perform 63% better than those with a male founder. (Don't get offended it's not my opinion its the statistics).
- Businesses that are founded by women deliver twice as much per dollar of investment compared to those founded by men!
- Upon exit investors can expect up to 112% Internal Rate of Return from female founded companies compared to 48% for male founded companies and the exit tends to be quicker for female founded companies as well.
