BATMAN: YEAR ONEAround 2000, while Darren Aronofsky and Frank Miller worked on their own film adaptation of Miller's Batman: Year One, Warner Bros. lured the Wachowskis to the project after the success of The Matrix, leading them to write their own take of Year One. In contrast to the screenplay written by Aronosfky and Miller, the Wachowskis' proposal was more faithful to the original comic and Warner was pleased with it. In the end, the Wachowskis preferred to continue their work with The Matrix trilogy, and their version of Year One was adandoned.

Step back into the Gotham of Tim Burton’s seminal Batman movies! Batman ’89 brings in screenwriter Sam Hamm (Batman, Batman Returns) and artist Joe Quinones (Dial H for Hero) to pull on a number of threads left dangling by the prolific director. Gotham becomes torn in two as citizens dressed as Batman and The Joker duke it out in the streets. As D.A. Harvey Dent tries to keep the city together, he targets the one problem tearing it apart: Batman! But what happens next has dark ramifications for not just the Dark Knight, but Harvey Dent himself. Bruce Wayne embarks on a crusade to better Gotham as both himself and the Batman, but a young new hero on the scene stands in his way, claiming his mission is shortsighted. Meanwhile, Harvey Dent starts down a path leading to nothing but ruin. The fate of Gotham hangs in the balance as these two sides of the same coin do battle. But when the coin finally flips, on which side will it fall?VOICE CAST:Josh Portillo – Batman/Bruce WayneDerric Willingham – Harvey Dent/Two-FaceAngela Hoeffler – CatwomanAlexander Pond – AlfredLoren King – James GordonLauren Sanders – Barbara GordonChristopher Anderson II – Drake WinstonAnthony Williams – Jerome OtisTommy Rickard – Harvey Bullock, Cop, Council Member, National Guard, Gang MemberAJ Carter – Reporter, Joker Gang MemberDavis Allen – ThiefHarrison Toomey – MayorTim Maxwell - OrderlyNarrated by Ben WanCREDITS:From the comic written by Sam Hamm with art by Joe Quinones, Leonardo Ito, and Clayton CowlesAdapted by Ben WanDirected and edited by Tim MaxwellMusic by Nick Gonzalez, Kevin MacLeod, Michael Picher, Sasha Ende, and Dan BodenBatman created by Bob Kane, with Bill FingerBased on characters appearing in comics published by DC ComicsProduced by NEUVERSE CREATIVEA big thanks to Ben Wan from @SuperHousePodcast for writing and narrating this episode. If you’re a fan of this comic, check out his podcast Superhero Stuff You Should Know where he dove into each issue and interviewed writer Sam Hamm, artist Joe Quinones, and editor Andy Khouri. And if you’re a fan of how Ben adapted this comic for Neuverse Creative, check out his short story titled Shortcut to Happily Ever After at Metaphorosis Magazine.
