One of the biggest takeaways from our talk was the anecdote that Brian shared about the Founder & CEO of Citadel: Ken Griffin. In 2021 congressional testimony, Ken Griffin stated: "Today, virtually all trades executed by institutional investors are in the form of program trades such as VWAP and other algorithmic trades...We use VWAP orders to execute on behalf of our hedge fund and have generated exceptional returns for pension plans and for endowments". In 2022, Citadel booked record-breaking profits of $16 billion and Ken Griffin himself made over $4 billion (the largest in hedge fund history). So when somebody like Ken Griffin of Citadel mentions VWAP - it's worth listening to. Brian Shannon is also someone who I've "unknowingly" respected & looked up to for quite a long time. It was incredible to finally meet him and be able to pick his brain. After seeing the business from the inside and conversing with individuals who had been floor traders for years, his perspective on the markets changed dramatically. He learned about order flow and began to understand the impact large orders have on price movement.
He has always been a screen-based trader who implements strategies based on watching multiple depth and sales platforms (a.k.a. the DOM or ladder). He specialized in treasury note and treasury bond futures as well as E-Mini S&P 500 futures: more recently he switched his focus into trading commission free stocks.

Deeyana Angelo is a fintech entrepreneur and a derivatives trader. Prior to her finance career she was a successful session musician. Nowadays she is a managing director of a boutique software house Blahtech. The company has a small proprietary trading department with Deeyana Angelo as the Head Trader.
