Overeducated and undercaffeinated:This podcast deals with life's big questions, as they reared their heads during the trials and tribulations of a nomadic, sporadic, occasionally melodramatic but always pragmatic, sometimes asthmatic, which can be problematic, student of life. We'll frame life's big questions from the perspective of my favourite topics: systems thinking, technology, biology, economics, education, interdisciplinarity, neuroscience, and the art and science of making a good decision in a world that innundates you with endless choices and powerful subliminal manipulation. What is privacy? What is a measure of success? What is evidence of learning? What makes something a good purchase? And why does everything always boil down to our struggle to be good citizens in the physical and digital realm?
Today's episode is about chaos. How do we define chaos? What is your personal definition of chaos? How do we bring chaos into our haphazard and irrational lives? And finally, when chaos strikes, who and what would you want with you to bring order back into your sphere?
My guest today is the ever eloquent and brilliant Rania Hafez, an associate professor of education at Greenwich University and "Teacher of Teachers". In this episode the topic was "What is education for, anyway?" and in our discussion we ask: how does Shakespeare teach us about contract law? What does boxing have to do with one's ability to write? If teaching is meant to be an induction to a certain world of knowledge, than how do we preserve the teacher authority in the face of the commodification of the learning process? How do we address attempts to dilute the very act of learning itself?
In today's episode digital nomad and world traveller Shelly tells us all about her (mis)adventures in various interesting places across the globe, her journey to self-discovery and the important practical considerations of a life on the road. From her motorhome in the South of Spain, we asked questions about home, about breaking the chains of prescribed lifestyles, and really, on what it means to be free in your career in the age of remote work post covid 19.
When does knowledge translate into good behaviour? How do we develop good judgment and make good decisions? Can we cultivate intuition? And can we stop trying to improve?
This episode introduces the purpose behind this podcast and explains how, hopefully, asking the right questions can lead us to a more interesting and more enriched life . Even if we can't always attain the ultimate truth, we can grow nearer to it with every question. So therefore, seeking knowledge becomes both the reward and the process
