Look inside the musical journey of generations of a close-knit family and how music shaped their lives—hosted by Debbie (not a music buff). She interviews family members (mostly music buffs) born from the 1930s to the 2000s. Listen in as we discover together the soundtrack of a person's life.
Growing up in the 1970s, my sister Donna was not a fan of disco, as the title states. She has witnessed some of the greatest performers in music history. Among them are Elton John, Elvis Presley, Fleetwood Mac, The Allman Brothers Band, Three Dog Night, Kenny Loggins, The Beach Boys, James Taylor, Smokey Robinson, and her favorite, The Eagles, along with many more.
We chat a lot about growing up in Dayton, Ohio, and you'll find out why she sold her prized Trans Am. She has three grown sons, who can all sing Ramblin Man, and 11 lively grandchildren.
We also reminisce about our sister Deana, who passed away a few years ago, and her musical interests.
This is a fun one with lots of laughter. Sister chats are the best!
My youngest son, a 90's kid, Luke, takes us through his grade school years with a walkman, to house shows, and, yes, a choreographed dance.
Luke recently saw My Chemical Romance in concert and speaks about Gerard Way's influence on the 2,000s and fans. Luke's gregarious personality and infectious laugh make this podcast a real treat.
You can watch a Reel where Luke sings a Disney song on Instagram @familymusicchat and see him and his new sister-in-law belt out "These Eyes."
My mom Susan, born in 1931, takes us through 9 decades of music, starting in a little town in the foothills of Kentucky. Her brothers played the jews' harp, and her cousins played fiddles and mandolins at country dances. She played records on a wind-up victrola and recalls her aunt and uncle's player piano (in Haunted Holler). She remembers going to the Grand Ole Opry and seeing Marty Robbins. She also saw Elvis in concert in the 1970s. She still enjoys music at 91 years old and, as you will find out, is a delight. She is "Grandma" to her grandchildren and "Gram-Gram to her great-grandchildren and family.
My daughter-in-law, Ricky, takes us from the late 1980s to her first concert which was the artist Usher (feat. Kanye) to the LimeWire years and how she surprises everyone by singing her wedding vows. We discuss music in the 2,000s -where we get this episode title, to the Beatles, hidden tracks, and artists who we find out our perps. You can watch a Reel where Ricky sings her vows on Instagram @familymusicchat and also see her and her new brother-in-law belt out "These Eyes."
My first guest is my husband of thirty years, Tom. Tom's musical journey begins with the birth of Rock and Roll in the 1950s. We go through seven decades of music, concerts, and life. The title comes from one of his most memorable concerts when he was nineteen which has a hilariously unexpected twist.
