Hallmark Remarks with Emily and Sophia: Recent Episodes

Sophia Payne

Emily and Sophia review Hallmark movies (and Hallmark-esque movies) and tell you if it's a winner or a loser. They have built the perfect rubric to judge cheesy romance movies and determine if they are worth your time and attention. Along the way, they will share snippits of their unpredictable lives, which are in stark contrast to the movies they review. Emily is Sophia's brother's ex, Sophia is a single foster mom, Emily is a dancing queen, and both are Christians navigating the weird world of dating.

In this movie, a country singer (Metcalfe) returns home to his small town to sell his late parents' house before getting married to his movie star fiancee. While visiting, he reconnects with his childhood best friend (Reeser) and learns what it means to really be home. Emily and Sophia went deep in this episode.  Cheating, chasing dreams, heavy laden with guilt, death of loved ones, estranged family members.....it was heavy.

But not before they reminisced on High School roles thanks to A Christmas Class Reunion!  This Hallmark movie was watched by Emily!  She did a great job describing it.  See if it was enough to convince Sophia to watch it.

The movies the girls chose to dive deeper into were The Noel Diary (Netflix), A Holiday Spectacular (Hallmark), and Time for Him to Come Home for Christmas (Hallmark Movies & Mystery).  There are a lot of spoilers, so listen at your own risk, or after you've watched them for yourself!

A favorite quote from one of the movies was "You and I have been holding onto this guilt for a while now.  If it's okay with you, I think it's time we put it down now." Listen in for the context of that quote and the impact it had on the girls.

Sophia talked about the Advent reading she did for her church and the potential Hallmark Movie Moment it provided.

Emily had to miss this week's recording session, so Sophia had her mom, Peggy Payne on to guest host! Her knowledge of Hallmark movies is so extensive, she connected some CRAZY awesome dots for us between a Candace Cameron movie and a Jodie Sweetin movie.  It felt like Christmas Inception.

Sophia and Peggy talk about a few Hallmark movies they watched over the weekend, and the magic that they felt!  Some movies can miss the mark, or feel too cheesy.  But they both thought that several new movies really nailed it.  Give this episode a listen to find out which ones!

Emily and Sophia are back for another week of NEW Christmas movies!  This episode features 2, since Emily actually watched 2, and the girls dive right on in to them!

Ghosts of Christmas Present is a really fun twist on the Charles Dickens story A Christmas Carol.  3 Ghosts "Scrooge" people and help them find their Christmas spirit.  Some complications arise on their latest subject, and cause everyone to scramble.  The movie as a whole had twists and turns that both Emily and Sophia struggled to correctly predict!

Catering Christmas is a CLASSIC Christmas movie brought to us by Great American Family.  A woman's catering company is struggling, but if she could land a big client, then she could be catapulted into some incredible opportunities.  Will the nephew of the client be helpful or a distraction?

Give this episode a listen to hear what the girls thought about these two very different movies!

Autumn in the City (Hallmark) opens up with a montage of New York City, while someone is painting a watercolor of the sites.  Statue of Liberty, taxi cabs, Empire State Building, and an apartment complex.  Which is where our main character, Piper, gets out of her cab.

We soon learn she left Omaha, Nebraska to sublet an apartment in the city.  And her parents just do not get it.  They have many concerns, including a job, and she is working on it that very afternoon.

Next we meet Austin and he's at lunch with his mom.  She orders her "favorite salad" for the two of them, and then vomits her expectations all over him.  The whole time he is pushing back and placing boundaries, and she's respecting zero of them.  Because she is only worried about her image and how his actions, or lack there of, reflect back onto her.

Emily and Sophia dive in to this Fall themed movie as their last before the Christmas movie season is upon us!  Give this episode a listen to hear what chronotype they are, what Sophia did to open her Christmas Spirit Pandora box, and to see if they recommend this movie or not.

Okay don't be mad at us - we have very valid reasons for being late to drop this episode! To make it up to you, we have a super cute, very "classicly-Hallmark" movie this week. We're going  back to our roots with this Hallmark plotline, aka: city girl has to go to the country for some reason and ends up finding her heart in the people, town, and one very cute farm owner. "Harvest Moon" is this weeks watch and it has all the elements we enjoy, with some room for laughs and critique. Overall we really enjoyed this movie and can't wait to hear your thoughts! We also chat about life updates and something about Dolphins?

Sophia's mom, who often recommends the really good Hallmark movies for the girls to review, hopped on this week's episode!  She recommended the movie Romance in Style, and the girls decided to have her on and share her thoughts!

This movie touches on Body Positivity and the fashion industry.  In a prior episode, the girls watched a movie that they found to be harmful/damaging for body image.  So, they were skeptical to watch this one since that was the premise.  Did they like it?  Give this episode a listen to find out!

WE. ARE. BACK! After a brief, unplanned break, the girls are back in town with another episode. This week's movie, available on Netflix, stars Kat Graham and Tom Hopper. Julie (Graham) travels to Verona, Italy, after her boyfriend of four years breaks up with her, only to find that her villa has been double-booked and she now must share it with a cynical British stranger, Charlie (Hopper). Not only did we love this movie, but we had  a very special guest to help us review it! Welcome back, Nigel! This week's episode has our favorite unofficial third host back in the studio to share his thoughts on Hallmark's newest summer release. We sat down and talked about Groundswell, a 2022 Hallmark Movies & Mysteries release starring our girl, Lacey Chabert, and Ektor Rivera. This movie follows Emma (Chabert), a chef who spontaneously travels to Hawaii after some personal and professional drama; there she discovers her voice and follows her dreams. What better way to follow your dreams than to follow them right to Hawaii and into the arms of a hunky surf instructor? We thought this movie had a lot of heart and even better scenery, and finally some genuine communication between characters. We all agreed with IMDB on this one and collectively scored this movie a 6.5 out of 10, so go check it out on the frndlytv.com app and let us know what you think!

A Princess for Christmas, Princess Switch 3, A Christmas Competition, 8-Bit Christmas, and A Christmas Family Tree were all reviewed this week by Emily and Sophia. Each movie had it's own unique story line revolving around the ever so wonderful holiday of Christmas.

Emily is a sucker for the older Hallmark movies, so she watched and reviewed A Princess for Christmas. It is a 2011 flick that involved a visit to Castlebury (clever) and a healing relationship with the estranged royal family. Is it worth the watch? Emily will tell ya!

Sophia spent her Thanksgiving break watching all the Christmas movies. Princess Switch 3 is the third (and hopefully final) movie in the series. Vanessa Hudgeons plays a baker, a princess/queen, and the cousin to the princess/queen. There's a priceless decoration from the Vatican that goes missing, a growing love interest between 2 spies, and an estranged mother/daughter relationship that needs mending. Should you watch it? A Christmas Competition was a must watch considering Candace Cameron Bure stars in it. Yule wanna hear all about the holly jolly good time Sophia had watching this Fuller House reunion movie.
