Join us in this episode of "Educators Moving On" as we explore the transformative journey of Dana Gastich French. A seasoned educator, Dana shares her story of breaking free from the confines of the status quo and discovering her untapped potential.
The conversation delves into the challenges Dana faced while conforming to traditional educational norms. She reveals the pivotal moment when she realized there was more she could offer, prompting her to step out of her comfort zone and embrace innovation.
This episode serves as an inspiration for educators seeking to move beyond established boundaries. Dana's story is a testament to the courage it takes to explore new horizons in education. "Educators Moving On" with Dana Gastich French is a rallying cry for educators ready to embrace change and unlock their full potential in the dynamic landscape of teaching.
" I had a clear sense that I needed to make a change or the system in which I was working was not ready for the change that I was advocating for. However, when it wasn't received well, I would look back at myself and believe the narrative that I was, in fact, the problem.
And it's really hard to bear witness as an administrator in a system to inequities to fight for them and speak up for them and to be told that I was essentially too much. But what I recognized through conversation with other colleagues is that there are systems that do have readiness for this, and that the reality in which I was living was not the reality everywhere.
So I needed to stop turning the blame on myself and saying, you have a gift to share. The fact that it's not being received here doesn't mean that it's unworthy or that you're unworthy. It means you need to find a setting that matches what you have to share. "

Do you ever find yourself daydreaming about success? Perhaps you maintain a list or a vision board year after year, yet you never take any action.
It's common for people to harbor grand aspirations, but turning them into reality is an entirely different challenge.
In this episode of the Educators Moving On Podcast, Dr. Shenelle DuBose and Linda Pritchard from Fundamentals by Linda Pritchard delve into the obstacles and stumbling blocks that hinder us from pursuing our dreams.
They explore:
The excuses we use to prevent ourselves from making progress.
The fears that hold us back, preventing us from realizing our full potential.
The importance of setting achievable goals and breaking them down into manageable steps.
Strategies for overcoming self-doubt and building self-confidence.
"I wasn't honoring myself. I wasn't taking care of my vision, because you have to protect your vision. I don't want to live in regret, and I know I'm not going to be able to do everything and make everything happen perfectly or meet every goal, but I want to at least attempt. So if I try and I fail, at least I know I tried as opposed to feeling bad because I didn't even try."

We all have habits, both good and bad, but have you ever stopped to think about how those unhealthy choices can create a ripple effect throughout your life?
Imagine this: you hit the snooze button one too many times, skip breakfast, and rush to work. Already, you've set the tone for the day with stress and chaos. This seemingly innocent habit of not giving yourself enough time in the morning can lead to increased stress levels, decreased productivity, and even strained relationships as you bring that morning rush energy into your interactions. But that's just the beginning.
On this episode of the Educators Moving On Podcast, Alisha Ashford and Dr. Shenelle DuBose discuss how unhealth habits create a web of effects that can hold you back from the life you truly want. But the good news is that just as negative habits can snowball, positive habits can too.

As educators we unknowingly adopt certain habits under the pressure of work, many times due to the social strain, or simply just the dynamics of the teaching professions. These habits first seem harmless. Perhaps even helpful in the short term, but they lead to significant health and wellness concerns.
On this episode of Educators Moving on Podcast, Dr. Shenelle DuBose discusses:
"I really want us to think about the fact that the school pays you for a seven hour day, whatever your contractional hours are. Nothing is going to change until you decide I do not work for free. You are paid for this amount of time and this is the amount of time that you're available. We need to stop taking book bags home and checking papers on the weekend."

What do you do when it's time for a new season in your life? Do you even recognize that it's time for the season to change?
Perhaps it is when you are looking to take on a new innovative approach to your business, or maybe you're pondering a shift to a different sector within the educational landscape.
Or it may be a personal decision that requires a leap of faith. These leaps create integral stories in our lives, and they test us, and they are often very, very frightening. But ultimately, they contribute to shaping us into more resilient, adaptable, and courageous leaders, educators, business people. And CEOs, so we're going to talk about that in today's episode.
In this episode of the Educators Moving On Podcast, Dr. Shenelle DuBose discusses how to take leaps of faith and what happens when we don't.
"You have to be relentless in this thing. You need to be prepared for the potential failure. You're going to have setback, and you have the ability to bounce back. When we fall down, we get up. We don't just lie there and wait on somebody to come pick us up and dust us off. We get up, we dust ourselves off, and we do it again. "

Imposter Syndrome can harm your growth as a person and as an educator. It can set you back from building the life your dream of and deserve.
In this episode of the Educators Moving On Podcast Dr. Shenelle DuBose is joined with Amaris Miller to discuss Imposter Syndrome.
They will be discussing:
"So once you have the realization you can create; you need to start to unlearn all of those things that have been put on you, the negative things that people have placed on you, or the sort of box that people have put you in. Like you can only be a teacher, you can only be a whatever. You need to start to unlearn some of those things in order to move into your destiny, especially your place of abundance, because there's no way that you can really get there unless you pull back some of those layers ."

Accepting mediocrity in our lives can hold us back from reaching our full potential and achieving our dreams. Settling for average or ordinary results can create a comfort zone that prevents us from taking risks and growing as individuals. It is important to push beyond mediocrity and strive for excellence in all aspects of life, embracing challenges and continuous improvement.
In this episode of the Educators Moving On Podcast Dr. Shenelle DuBose is joined with Dr. Brandy Peer to discuss the mindset of mediocrity.
They will be discussing:
"Accepting mediocrity or even just having the mindset of mediocrity hurts you in defining your value and your worth because if you're looking for acceptance from other people or need that external acceptance to feel validated, that means that my value and my worth are determined by your response to the thousand percent that I give to you. Rather than me saying, you know what, I'm enough! Everything I do is great! And that's fine. Even if I don't get that back in return, I know that I am valuable enough that I don't need the validation."

As educators, we work tirelessly to create fairness and equity in our classrooms and communities. However, it's crucial for us to acknowledge âthat life itself isn't really fair. And we can't keep continuing to believe these ideals.
In this episode, Dr. Shenelle DuBose explores the concept of unfairness, and how we can navigate it with resiliency and adaptability.
If you're ready to challenge your expectations and embrace the reality of an imperfect world; join Dr. Shenelle as she delves into the complexities of fairness and uncover strategies to empower ourselves in the face of life's uncertainties.
"Life is complex and unpredictable and fairness is not guaranteed and it should not be expected. But when we hold on to this belief, we become disillusioned and frustrated when we encounter setbacks or any type of obstacles that we perceive as unfair. And this in turn, prevents us from adapting to challenges and taking the necessary risk to grow personally and professionally."

62: Educators moving to a regret proof life
Do you ever feel like your accomplishments result from luck and doubt your abilities? If so, you are not alone.
Imposter Syndrome is a complex issue that affects many people. It can manifest in various ways, such as feeling like a fraud, constantly comparing yourself to others, or downplaying your achievements.
For educators, Imposter Syndrome can be particularly damaging. Teachers who experience Imposter Syndrome may feel inadequate and struggle to connect with their students or feel confident in their ability to teach effectively. This can ultimately impact student outcomes and create a negative cycle that perpetuates feelings of self-doubt.
However, there are strategies that educators can use to overcome Imposter Syndrome. Educators can regain their confidence and reach their full potential by recognizing and challenging negative self-talk, setting realistic goals, and seeking support from colleagues and mentors.
In this episode, Dr. Shenelle DuBose will examine the roots of Imposter Syndrome and its impact on educators and explore strategies and share practical tips for educators who are struggling with Imposter Syndrome.

Regret can come in many forms. The work opportunities you donât take, the conversations you never had, or relationships you didnât foster. It can be a crippling emotion, leaving you feeling helpless and desperate.
Yet it does not have to be this way. With strong self-awareness, careful planning and a commitment to taking action, you can move towards what I like to call a âregret proof lifeââa life where you make decisions that will leave no room for regret.
In this episode of Educators Moving on Podcast, Dr. Shenelle DuBose highlights the ways regret can stifle our success and the ways to move forward.

Procrastination is a common challenge people face every day, often mistaken for laziness, fear, or shame. It can affect your dreams, steal your joy, and impede progress toward your goals, robbing you of significant opportunities.
Overcoming procrastination requires a shift in mindset from "I'll do it later" to "I'll do it now." This simple change can change your life, as you'll find you can tackle challenging tasks with greater ease and enjoy more of life's beautiful moments.
In this episode of "Educators Moving On," Dr. Shenelle DuBose and Tanika Garrett delve into how procrastination can hinder the success of education consultants. By sharing tips on recognizing it, planning to overcome it, and striving toward consistent growth, they shed light on how to move toward success.
âYouâre not in the system; when youâre in entrepreneurship, you are the system. So you do what you need to do that aligns with your values and assignment. â Tanika Garrett, 2023

Have you heard of the shiny object syndrome?
Do you tend to go from task to task led by excitement but rarely complete anything?
In this Educators Moving On Podcast episode, Dr. Shenelle DuBose discusses moving on from good ideas to God Ideas. Often times we have amazing ideas, and put tons of work into them, but they may not be the right ideas you should focus your energy on.
Black Excellence: a mindset backed by actions that display leadership through perseverance.
Recently, the terms #blackexcellence and #blackgirlmagic have emerged as rallying cries and motivational slogans for the black community. While they have been instrumental in achieving various milestones, they have also caused damage by influencing the world's perception of black people and their contribution to society.
Since the abolition of slavery, black people have encountered numerous challenges, worked hard, and achieved success. However, society has always required them to put in twice the effort and prove their worth to attain safety and deserve recognition. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, the finish line keeps moving, leaving them powerless and unable to enjoy their lives fully.
In this episode of Educators Moving On Podcast episode, Dr. Shenelle DuBose talks about how black excellence is a hoax comparable to slavery. She explains how this mindset hinders black people from living authentically and causes them to pursue an unattainable ideal.
âWe have to see ourselves worthy first. We don't need people to pat us on our back and especially White America. We are worthy because we are, because we exist."

56: Educators moving on: Introvert or Extrovert
Would you consider yourself an introvert or an extrovert? It is important to understand your personality type and how it might affect your success as an educator or education consultant.
Introverts tend to focus more on their internal thought process and prefer reflective activities such as reading, writing, or problem-solving. Extroverts are often seen as outgoing, talkative people who enjoy socializing and typically thrive in a large group. But is that true or a misconception?
In reality, both introverts and extroverts can be successful in an educational setting. It's important to identify which personality type you are so that you can tailor your teaching or consulting style accordingly.
In this episode of Educators Moving On Podcast, Dr. Shenell DuBose breaks down the differences and similarities between Introverts and Extroverts and how you can use your unique superpowers to thrive.
âI think what matters is you know yourself, how you perform best, and know what situations are good for you and which situations are now.

55: Educators moving on from fear and limiting beliefs
How do you know if you're letting fear rule your life? Are there signs that you must step back, re-evaluate, and move on from negative beliefs?
Fear often manifests in different ways, such as staying in the same comfort zone, avoiding change, procrastination, perfectionism, and self-doubt. It can also lead to ruminating thoughts, interfering with your ability to focus and make decisions. To break free from these limiting beliefs, it's important to recognize when fear is taking over and work on ways to move beyond them.
In this episode of Educators Moving On Podcast, Dr. Shenelle DuBose Identifies what triggers your fear, can help you better understand it, and start developing strategies to reduce your anxiety. Developing a positive mindset is also crucial in helping you overcome those feelings of fear.
"Initially may not see it, but eventually, you will. You cannot continually be in a situation where you're always second guessing yourself or looking to others to invalidate you and not impact your self-esteem."

54: Educators Moving into Artificial Intelligence
Artificial Intelligence is all over the news and internet but what is and why should we care?
Artificial Intelligence is a branch of computer science that focuses on creating machines that are capable of "thinking" and learning. AI is used in many different applications to make work more efficient, increase accuracy, decrease risk, and provide better user experiences.
AI is beginning to revolutionize the education sector as well.
AI can help
AI shouldnât replace humans but be used as a tool to guide and support teachers in the classroom. AI can provide personalized instruction, but it canât replace teachers' human connection with their students. AI should enhance learning experiences and create an environment that supports student success.
âThis technology does not have to be seen as a threat, as the downfall of education, or take the teachers' job. If we see it as a tool, then you will be able to see how these advances can support education, and youâre everyday life.â Ep. 54Dr. Shenelle DuBose

In this episode on the Educators Moving on Podcast, Dr. Shenelle DuBose and Germaine Buchanan emphasize the importance of:

We donât often talk about toxic school environments. We want to be positive and a team player supporting our schools but sometimes, we need to address the tough issues. Moving on from a toxic school system comes with a lot of emotions and challenges but also a sense of liberation.
The first step to overcoming the challenge of a toxic school system is to understand what defines it. Signs of toxicity can range from psychological bullying and intimidation, lack of respect or support from staff and students, the stigma surrounding certain individuals or groups within the school, and lack of resources. This episode highlights:
â I will tell you it is so important for you to take care of yourself. When we're in these toxic situations, we're so busy trying to ensure that we've crossed every T and dotted every I that we use the extra time we shouldn't be using. Trying to ensure we've done it all so the micromanager can leave us alone and the negativity can stop, but you cannot. You need to make time for your self-care. You need to make sure that you are able to get time in the exercise to meditate, to enjoy a hobby. To get a massage or facial, hang out with friends and take a long hot bath. This is what is going to help you to manage the stress and maintain your mental stability and your emotional wellbeing. You have to be loyal to you.â

As women and educators, itâs easy to put others before ourselves. We focus on the kids, the students, partners, or peers and forget to ask for help or take time for self-care. Sometimes we are so deep in the cycle that we donât even recognize when we are burnt out.
In this episode on the Educators Moving on Podcast, Dr. Shenelle DuBose and Jamilah Bashir emphasize the importance of investing in yourself and engaging in activities that bring joy and fulfillment.
âI donât have to be Superwoman, and Iâm not going to try to be Superwoman. Being Superwoman breaks me down. You get sick of being Superwoman. You get broken down being Superwoman. You look up and donât know how you became Superwoman. Itâs too much for one person.â

So that's what caused me to create the tutoring program because if I couldn't allow them to obtain what they needed to obtain in the classroom, that tutoring allowed me to take it a step further. Have you ever heard of Superwoman Syndrome?
If you haven't, I'm sure you've felt it. Being a wife, a mom, an aunt, a sister, a leader of the PTA, a skilled educator managing classrooms, organizing playdates, birthday parties, and all the things in between, without spending time on you.
In this episode, I'm chatting with Melanie Battles from Scholars for the Soul: An Educational Solutions Firm, where we discuss superwoman syndrome and how to remove the stigma so you can focus on yourself.
How you can:
"Where are you trying to go and what does it take for you to get there? Setting that routine, setting your timers, if it's getting up before all your kids in the house. That was something big for me. I wanted to get up before everybody else started getting up, moving around, asking me for this, wanting to do that. I need to get up early so I can have time just for me. And when I did that, I was more patient with my children. When I did that, I had more patience for my husband because my cup was being filled. Not thinking that I just have to wake up and as soon as my feet hit the ground, I'm superwoman. No. Taking the cape off means I know I need to be filled, so let me schedule time within my day to fill my cup. Because I can't pour into my family, I can't pour into my students. I can't pour into my community if I don't have anything to pour."

Welcome to 2023!
As we prepare to enter into a new year, now is a great time to think about new habits that we should consider practicing in 2023. So today's episode will be dedicated to habits that we need to begin practicing in 2023 that will serve us better and help us to lead the life of our dreams.
What habits are we taking into 2023?
And so much more!
âSome of us are so scared to break a rule. We're so afraid to live life out loud, that we put ourselves in these boxes and we become these fragile beings. I just want you to know you can break a rule every now and then. It's okay. And if you plan to do something great in 2023, you're gonna have to break a few rules.â

We all have habits that we need to unlearn and make space for new practices that will help us to become better individuals.
What am I talking about?
Things we need to leave behind as we exit 2022 and head into 2023 like:
âIt is time to leave the control issues in 2022. Let's work on eliminating it. Just let it go. Just surrender. You do not have control over everything. You can go to work, you can prepare your lesson, you can present the lesson, but there's no control over which kids are going to get the lesson, whether or not they're going to enjoy it, whether or not it's going to yield the results that you're looking for. Letâs leave control issues in 2022.

Do you ever feel like you have to have it all together? Do you feel like you have to have all the answers?
As teachers, we are the ones who educate society, and so we have to have our lives together in order to help other people, right? But it's just not true. We as educators are human beings.
In this episode of Educators Moving On, Dr. Shenelle DuBose speaks with guestShiree McGee about prioritizing moving on from insecurity into the world of confidence highlighting:
âYou gotta do a whole period of shift. When you wanna go higher, when you wanna pull out an insecurity, you must become aggressive and you have to do things that you have not done before because in insecurity, it's gonna cap you. You want the sky and beyond to be your limits. So in order to do that, you gotta do that. Speak those positive words and be saying it out loud is allowing you to hear it. So it's going out and it's coming back in, and it's going out, and it's coming back in, and it's changing the way that you thinkâ

Do you feel wiped out from work? Do you have zero energy for anything else in your life once you get home? Have you normalised feeling exhausted?
In order to give, and continue giving - and for some of us, that means an entire career in education - we have to take excellent care of ourselves. When we donât, our wellbeing, our health, our families, and eventually also our work will suffer.
In this episode of Educators Moving On, Dr Shenelle DuBose speaks with guest Jessica Guarnieri about prioritising our students and our work above ourselves and our wellbeing and how to shift that habituated internal operating mode, highlighting in particular:
âSet your boundaries early. How much can you give, and how much are you willing to give? When I was a new teacher, I really strived to have the work done. I didnât understand what it meant that the work is never done. Set those boundaries, because itâs not only right for you and your family, itâs right for the parents and the students too.â

Are you currently in your zone of competence, your zone of excellence, or your zone of genius?
If you generally feel a bit bored or frustrated or just not lit up about your work, youâre probably not in your zone of genius. You might be really good at your job, but if it doesnât bring you joy, youâre in your zone of competence or excellence.
In this episode of Educators Moving On, Dr Shenelle DuBose speaks with guest Sharon Davis about honouring your greatness, moving away from excellence and towards genius, and why it starts with prioritising ourselves, highlighting:
âWeâre given these gifts and talents and then we settle for the thing that is less than just because weâre good at it, not knowing that if we stop doing that thing and start doing the thing that is innate, that is natural, our lives will be so much fuller and richer. But itâs a really big gap between the zone of excellence and the zone of genius and whatâs in that gap is being brave enough to step away from excellence to get to genius.â

It can be really hard to go beyond the financial precedents set by our families, but itâs possible for all of us. Mindset shifts, fostering faith and building new money habits can help you create the changes you need.
In this episode of Educators Moving On, Dr Shenelle DuBose speaks with guest Comilla Mays about transforming our financial realities, what a business mindset looks like and how to start building wealth generation today, highlighting:
âThat whole wealthy mindset, that comes from educating yourself. âMy people perish for the lack of knowledgeâ - itâs what we donât know thatâs killing us. Knowledge equals light, darkness is ignorance. And all things are possible to them that believe.â

About a third of Americans deal with chronic pain and it can be a hugely debilitating problem. In addition, there are often no external signs of it, so people donât realise that weâre suffering. In a culture that emphasises pushing through discomfort, many people who experience chronic pain end up struggling to express and honour their needs.
In this episode of Educators Moving On, Dr Shenelle DuBose speaks with guest Dr Sabrina Crouch about dealing with chronic pain as an educator in the school system and the critical importance of prioritising taking care of ourselves first, highlighting in particular:
âHe asked the most challenging and thought-provoking question. He simply asked me, What are you holding on to that you need to let go of? He was like, When you figure that out, thatâs when youâll start to feel relief.â

Do you feel like youâre still playing out unhelpful habits with money?
Maybe you know better, but you keep doing the same thing, or you donât fully understand whatâs happening with your money and why youâre not reaching your financial goals. Money habits can go deep and shifting them can require deep inner reflection and powerful external changes.
In this episode of Educators Moving On, Dr Shenelle DuBose speaks with guest Wendy Petties about fostering financial health and prosperity through honesty, clarity and pleasure, and the habits that support the path to becoming a millionaire, highlighting:
âWeâve got to get comfortable with our value and our worth and how we interact with other people around that.â

Are you ready to make some big changes in your life?
Creating major changes in our lives, choosing to prioritise different parts of ourselves, and making new and often courageous decisions about our careers is a kind of reinvention. It can seem scary to embrace newness on multiple fronts but making external changes in our appearance often helps change how we show up in the world and how the world responds to us.
In this episode of Educators Moving On, Dr Shenelle DuBose speaks about how leaving the classroom necessitates a personal reinvention, how to embrace change and what is needed in when we step forward to create a different life for ourselves, highlighting:
âWhen you make a change, you do something different, things should be different - YOU should be different! You should feel different, and you should look different. And not only that, but the people in your life should also be able to see the difference, feel the difference, and it should be evident that you are a new person, you are different, you have changed - you are not the same.â

How do the clothes you wear make you feel? Do they give you a boost of confidence when you look in the mirror, or do they do the opposite?
What we wear impacts how we see ourselves and how others see us; we send a message with how we look, and we get to determine what people see. Personal style changes throughout our lives and maybe itâs time for an update!
In this episode of Educators Moving On, Dr Shenelle DuBose speaks with Erica Crawley about why we lose our personal style, how to align your look with your goals and how to dress for your body shape, highlighting in particular:
âEnvision how you want to look; how can you align your looks with your goals? You want to go from the classroom to the consultant room. How are you going to look when youâre doing that? Youâre not wearing the same thing.â

Do you have ways of taking care of yourself when youâre having a difficult time emotionally? Do you have people at work you can speak to when youâre struggling?
Mental health is an issue that will affect everyone at some point; we all have things we need healing from. For some people, the working environment is not particularly conducive to good mental health, and itâs important to try to manage that in the best way possible.
In episode 30 of Educators Moving On, Dr Shenelle DuBose speaks with Roxanne Marion about educators creating safe mental health spaces at work, finding the little things that help to calm us down and relax our minds, and ensuring that weâre including things that bring us joy in our spare time, highlighting:
âYou have to be proactive about these things. We canât act like we never go through depression; we never get anxious, we never get stressed - we all feel those ways at times. Set yourself up for success; have the person that you talk to and that you trust and those things that you can turn to immediately.â

Do you feel like youâre always âonâ? Is taking care of yourself and your need for rest and replenishment always the last thing on your to-do list?
Itâs so easy to think we donât have time to take care of ourselves, but the truth is that when our inner resilience shrinks, the quality of our lives and our relationships diminish in conjunction with those decreasing energetic and emotional resources.
In this episode of Educators Moving On, Dr Shenelle DuBose talks about prioritising self-care, how our self-care needs as educators have evolved over time and the various things, we need to consider in order to choose self-care practices that are really effective, highlighting:
âThe bottom line is, you must be the #1 priority and treat yourself like you are the priority. Self-care is a priority. You are the CEO of your life and the life youâre living - YOU designed it, you created it! So, if you find that you are feeling stressed out, burned out, overwhelmed, or tired, I would ask, have you prioritised YOU?â

Are you one of the âstrong onesâ?
The one who is always there for everyone else to lean on? Maybe you feel like sharing your troubles is âburdeningâ other people?
Women tend to fall into the toxic positivity trap much more than men and prioritise other peopleâs wellbeing over their own. Itâs time to change the narrative around facing challenging times as women and learn how to invite support.
In episode 28 of Educators Moving On, Dr Shenelle DuBose and guest Danyelle Bridges discuss how toxic positivity undermines our power, limits our expansion and impacts all areas of our lives in an unhelpful manner, highlighting in particular:
âWe were just taught to be the strong one, especially with Black women - we have that superhero syndrome. We are taught how to just sit in and figure it out all on our own, but we donât have to; there is support. And just having to think positive all the time, thatâs not dealing with the reality of it. Until you get a safe space, you will never be able to really connect with your true authentic self and who God really called you and made you to be.â

Do you find yourself denying or avoiding difficult emotions?
Do you often try to frame your experience in positive terms, perhaps at the expense of truly acknowledging how hard it might be?
The trend of toxic positivity has many of us trying to always put on a brave face and, in the process, built a habit of denying and invalidating our own emotional responses - all of which are valid and a normal part of life.
In this episode of Educators Moving On, Dr Shenelle DuBose explains what toxic positivity can look like in the realm of education and how we can start to catch it when weâre doing it to ourselves, highlighting in particular:
âToxic positivity is very dangerous, and itâs very harmful because it teaches you to avoid your true emotions and to also avoid emotional situations because you begin to discount or deny and dismiss difficult or unpleasant emotions. It also prevents you from growing from the challenge; when we have these instances that really take an emotional toll on us, thereâs a lesson that we are meant to learn but thereâs also a blessing that you are meant to receive on the other side of it. For every challenge, there is a lesson and a blessing.â

Do you feel a sense of guilt around the successes in your life?
Is it hard for you to relax into enjoying the good things you have created and worked hard for? There are many reasons people feel guilty about their success and achievements and that guilt can not only stop you from fully enjoying your life but also keep you from further levelling up.
In this episode of Educators Moving On, Dr Shenelle DuBose pulls back the layers of success and asks us to dig deep and question whether we might be holding some success guilt, the psychological root of it and how to begin to free ourselves from it, highlighting:
âIn the Black community, those who thrive sometimes feel a sense of guilt because they couldnât take others with them. But hereâs the difference. As a survivor, you believe that you received favour, or that you were spared while others suffered by some other force. But as thrivers, we know we did the work. We fought that good fight, we sacrificed, we did the things that others were not willing to do, we missed the parties, and we didnât partake in a lot of the activities that would have been fun at the time, because we had a goal. But the guilt still remains. Why? Itâs this thing called loyalty.â

Do you have a big dream? One thatâs so big it scares you?
Maybe it feels so big that you donât know where to start and youâre scared youâll never make it happen.
In this episode of Educators Moving On, Dr Shenelle DuBose explores what it takes to create our dream lives and what full commitment really looks like.
Dr DuBose unpacks the many reasons why most people donât create their dream lives, the mindset patterns that get in the way and how we need to position ourselves in our lives if we really want to make our big dreams happen, highlighting in particular:
âAre you allowing obstacles to stop you? Half commitment. When the obstacle comes, expect it and be willing to do whatever it takes to get around that obstacle. Being afraid to take risks; half commitment means that I will do it as long as it doesnât cost me anything and as long as I donât have to risk anything. Thatâs not a full commitment. A full commitment means that Iâm willing to take the risk, and we know that with low risk comes low reward and with high risk comes high reward. So how big is your dream? Is it worth it?â

Do you find yourself networking to the point of exhaustion, and yet not getting the results you are after?
When you think of walking into a room full of people who are 'ahead' of you in your journey, how do you feel?
In this episode of Educators Moving On Dr. Shenelle DuBose speaks with Arlena Jackson about intentional networking as the key to making your millions.
Dr. DuBose and Arlena Jackson share their top tips on how to network your way to high net worth, challenging you to ask what are you willing to give to get, explaining heart-based vs head-based networking and much more, including:
âI did some reevaluation and it caused me to really start to move with a sense of urgency, to move into purpose, because had I got the diagnosis of pancreatic cancer stage 4, 3-6 months to live, I would have been petrified because unlike my Mother who died empty, I was still full. And the goal is not to return back to heaven with your gifts, but itâs to leave this world empty, meaning you have poured out all of your gifts.â

Do you feel constantly exhausted?
In this episode of Educators Moving On Dr. Shenelle DuBose dives deep into the symptoms of burnout and the deeper psychological causes behind the behaviors that create it.
Dr. DuBose speaks to how we as educators and leaders tend to be juggling multiple roles simultaneously, wearing exhaustion as a badge of honor, doing everything for everyone at the cost of our own wellbeing and what we can do to change these patterns, highlighting:
âWhy do you think that you have to show up for everyone else, for everything else, even when youâre tired, even when youâre exhausted, even when you donât have the time, even when you donât have the energy, but you just keep going and going and going? Youâve got to ask yourself why do you feel the need to be present and to be all things to all people, because obviously it is self-serving, so what part of you is it serving?â

In this episode of Educators Moving On, Dr Shenelle DuBose speaks with Dr Yuri Tuppince about her journey with entrepreneurship and learning to play big.
Dr DuBose and Dr Tuppince address some of the common conditioning that keeps us playing small, especially as women of colour and how to move beyond that to build the life we want, highlighting in particular:
âYou have what you need to live the life that you want - you are holding yourself back. You donât know that because you have not taken yourself on this journey of self-discovery to find out. Do you ever feel disheartened by the education system?
In this episode of Educators Moving On, Dr Shenelle DuBose speaks with Dr Brante Dashiell about her experience teaching internationally and how it made her see the US educational system with new eyes when she got home.
Dr DuBose and Dr Dashiell discuss differences in US education as compared with some other countries, the challenges facing many students in the US, and how we can respond to the situation as educators with big dreams, highlighting:
âIâm on a mission to change how we educate students and make sure that weâre intentional in everything that we do and say because that trickles down to the children who are going to run our country 20 years from now. And if we donât change it, weâre in a world of trouble.â

Do you have rigid standards for yourself in some areas of your life?
In this episode of Educators Moving On, Dr Shenelle DuBose speaks about perfectionism, how it can show up and impact our lives, and how to identify it and begin dismantling it.
Perfectionism can manifest in many ways and in this episode, Dr DuBose examines exactly how it works, how it interferes with being a high achiever and how to address it, highlighting in particular:
âWhen you focus only on the results, you see the goal and nothing else. You donât see the people, you donât see the growth, you donât see the process, you donât see how youâve grown from one place to another, and you donât get to enjoy any of the learning, of the growing, of the striving. And so, when you only focus on the result, you only celebrate if you get the result. So, seeing the goal and nothing else is not a great way to live your life and to measure your life by.â

Dr DuBose and guest Anthony Herbert explore how to know when your current work situation is no longer serving you, embracing change, and what to pay attention to when creating work and lifestyles that help us thrive, highlighting in particular:

Do you feel like youâre receiving back the value of what you give at work?
In this episode of Educators Moving On, Dr Shenelle DuBose explores how we can ensure that weâre in mutually beneficial relationships with our work.
The education system has changed a lot since many of us trained to be educators and for some of us, it might not be giving us what we want anymore. Dr Shenelle DuBose examines the factors at play in assessing whether or not weâre in a happy, healthy relationship with our work, highlighting in particular:
âI want you to think about your current situation; is everyone benefitting? One of the reasons why people will get to a point where they feel theyâre not in a mutually beneficial relationship is almost that idea of, âIâm loving you but youâre not loving me backâ.â

Do you dream of having more money in order to fulfil your dreams?
In this episode of Educators Moving On, Dr Shenelle DuBose talks about how to move on from underearning for high achievers and what is required in order to do that.
Dr DuBose explains why the common approaches to addressing the problem of underearning donât work and explores how to address the underlying causes of underearning and the difficulties people face on the journey to make that shift. She outlines in particular:
âThe problem is within us. It is inside of us. It is the inner work thatâs going to help you to create wealth, not the outer work. Youâve been doing, doing, doing; you have all the degrees and certifications, you have the accolades, so why are you not living the life of your dreams? Dr DuBose and Tanjarae Porter discuss the overwhelm that educators, as natural givers, often experience, and how learning to plan and schedule with the help of some simple apps can revolutionise your life, outlining in particular:

âFor those of us who are high achieving - we typically have a hard time enforcing boundaries because we know weâre different. We know other people know weâre different, but we still try to fit in and itâs the trying to fit in that creates this issue where people cross our boundaries.â

Are you dreaming of leaving the school system but unsure of how to do so?
In todayâs episode, Dr Shenelle DuBose and special guest Tamara Irving open up about their journeys from being educators in the system to consultants.
Dr Shenelle DuBose and Tamara Irving openly share their fears around leaving the education system, the financial and familial impacts of the shift to being self-employed and the key things that helped them stay the course, in particular, how:
âI wonder how many educators feel theyâre betraying themselves each day when they show up at a job that they do not love. Itâs that understanding that this system is not going to change, the impact that I want to make is not going to be made because of the system, and there is something greater for me.â

Are you a multi-passionate person? Do you struggle to decide which of your passions to focus your energy on?
In todayâs episode, Dr Shenelle DuBose speaks with Sharonda Dreams to unpack the myth that multi-passionate people have to choose one passion at the expense of all the others.
Dr DuBose and her guest Sharonda Dreams outline how you can find the most effective focus point from amongst your passions and how committing to that will result in rapid forward movement as well as your other interests being woven in. Some key takeaways from this episode are:
âSome of the challenges that multi-passionate people have is they think, âWell Iâm going to use this gift - but then what about this other gift that Iâm really good at?â, and then they want to go back and forth, but according to what (Sharonda) is saying, once you get into the main gift it will make room for the rest of the gifts.â - Dr Shenelle DuBose, S1 E8, Educators Moving on Podcast

Has your dream of being an educator grown stagnant?
In this weekâs episode, Dr. Shenelle DuBose and special guest Nicole Hurst explore how our dreams change and evolve, how to leverage our expertise and how doubt is the only real limitation we face.
Dr. Shenelle DuBose speaks with one of her clients who, after only a few months of coaching, has created a business doing what she loves and is making money from it. They share the process Nicole went through to get where she is now, in particular highlighting:
âYou find a problem and you solve it and people will pay you for it because it brings value. We all have something that we do, thatâs just second nature to us but for other people, it is a true task; it eats up their time, itâs not a good use of their time and it is valuable for them to have someone else to support them, to guide them, to provide a service for them, and theyâre willing to pay for it.â

Do you want to improve your selling skills?
In todayâs episode, Dr. Shenelle DuBose, a successful strategist, explored what the fear is behind selling and how do we get over it.
Dr. DuBose who has the firsthand experience of overcoming the fear of selling, talks us through the following ideas that we should consider:
Quote:
âStop helping people, seeing them as broken and start serving people, seeing them as whole and understand the value that youâre delivering and request to be paid. You gotta put a price on it. No one else can determine your value. You get to determine the value that you bring.â

Do you ever wonder how some people are really great at what they do?
This weekâs episode taught us this one strategy that most educators are missing, to be able to stay in our zone of genius and not fall prey to the many distractions that exist.
Dr. Shenelle DuBose, an expert educator, and successful consultant, opened our eyes to the best strategy to stay in our zone of genius. She provided us with the following key points to follow:
âWe have to stop starting from scratch and learn to use leverage and utilize the resources that are around us, repurpose things. Leverage is about collaboration and not competition.â
PS: Below quote is the one that really struck me but the quote above is the one more connected to the main topic. I donât know how you do in this situation, so Iâll just give you the option to choose.
âThere's nothing wrong with having a competitive nature but know when you're competing and when you're not and who you're competing against. The only person you should be competing against should be yourself, to be the best version of yourself. Today is one day, tomorrow I will try to be a better me than I was yesterday.â

Do you wonder why it seems only a few get to live the life of their dreams and others have to work really hard to make ends meet?
In todayâs episode, Dr. Shenelle DuBose, an experienced educator, a renowned speaker, and successful consultant, gets down to brass tacks about the 10 biggest money myths that are known and why many educators fall prey to them.
Dr. Dubose discussed the myths that educators fall victims into and how to dispel them. She particularly highlighted that:
âI want you to know that it is possible for educators to make six figures in education, but sometimes, it just requires a change of mindset. Figure out the rules to the game and figure out how you can get into the game instead of sitting on the sidelines.â

Are you framed to choose only one between being rich and being good?
This weekâs episode tells us about how, by changing our mindset, we can possibly achieve both living with abundance and operating out of integrity.
Dr Shenelle DuBose, who has successfully lived-through the same situation, guides us on how we can get our heartsâ desires without sacrificing nobility. She leads us to the points where she emphasizes that:
âJust because you've decided that you were going to be an educator doesn't mean that you've decided that you don't want to live good, it doesn't mean that you don't get to have luxury, if that's what you so choose, it doesn't mean that you don't get to have all the desires of your heart. But it does mean that you have to start choosing you.â
