How do you hold yourself accountable when it comes to losing weight? The reason why we get attracted to working with weight loss coaches or join weight loss groups is because we want accountability. We want a way to make sure we will do what we say we do. But what can we do to hold ourselves accountable? The groups and coaching program are a short term solution, which is great. Though we also need to think about how we personally hold ourselves accountable in the long run.
Have a listen to my thoughts on this topic in this week's podcast episode.

Movement snacking What on earth is that?! Moving your body, in whatever shape or form it may look like, in bitesize chunks. And yes, all of those bitesize moments of movement COUNT. Identity. It's a key factor when we're talking about getting into new habits. Exercise, eating healthy, self care, going for walks - and every other habit you're trying to bring into existence in your life are all impacted by the identity you carry. Sometimes we wonder "Gosh why is it so bloody difficult to get a walk into my day?!" while also telling the world and her kitchen sink that "I'm the laziest person in the world". Doesn't really match up, does it? If you identify as someone who is lazy then it's a no brainer that you'll find it difficult to get out for a walk - because the habit you're trying to do doesn't align with the identity you are reiterating to yourself. In this episode we talk about what our identity might be, how it's impacting our actions and how we can reverse this in our favour. Periods. Menopause. PMS. The monthly cycle. All of the fun stuff us women go through at some point in life. It's a big part of being a woman - but literally nobody actually talks about how this part of our life is impacting our decision making, mindset, eating, exercise. You name it, and it's impacted in some way by the whole bleeding-once-a-month, body-getting-ready-for-a-baby, body-not-got-a-baby thing that's happening. In this episode we talk about what our cycle is impacting and some simple steps we can start taking to limit the negative impact it might be having. Over the years as I've coached women on their weight loss journey, I've realised that actually the steps and areas we need to work on are relatively basic: sleep, eating habits, movement, stress levels... The problem is we live in a chaotic and complicated world: our work shift patterns are manic, we're expected to do the whole working mum thing without difficulty (pffft), kids and marriage are not always an easy mix but that's all without mentioning the diet culture that has surrounded us from before we even knew how to smile. The simple steps become overcomplicated because of all this WORLD happening around is. But there is another layer to this onion... When we step into the decision to make some lifestyle shifts to change our way of living - we automatically jump to the chaotic and complicated steps. We don't keep it simple for ourselves. We decide to work against ourselves, not with ourselves. In this episode we talk about what we can do to simplify our journey in this chaotic world that we live in. We as medic mums are special. Not only do we do the whole mothering thing - which is bloody hard in itself. But we give our time, energy and brain space away to complete strangers who are in need of a bit of care and attention - because let's be real, that's what patients are (generally). Complete strangers who come into your life and you give them so much - to the level of holding in your wee for hours because you're being of service to them. We wear both those hats...but we often forget to pass a piece of that care and love to ourselves. The outcome comes in different forms: lack of self esteem or confidence, emotional eating, weight gain, poor eating habits. This podcast, platform and community is where we will change that. We will put ourselves first and honour our health - so we can be happy, healthy and feel fulfilled in life. Also check out:

The word failure holds a lot of emotions and thoughts for a lot of us. As medics, many of us have been high achievers for a lot of our lives. We are driven to acheive and succeed - so when we struggle with changing our eating habits, we start feeling like doomed failures.

Getting organised and carving time out for yourself is key in a weight loss journey because there are so many moving components that you need to give some time too.

When you're a busy doctor running around on a busy on call shift or finding yourself with a never ending list of jobs - the hand reaching for the biscuits is a common event!
This episode was highly requested by a number of my fellow doctor mums who are struggling with controling their eating habits when working long, busy hours.
In this episode we go through some of the reasons you might be overeating or stress eating on shifts and a few methods we can use to start to combat it.
Warning: I get very passionate in this episode!
I've heard many colleagues, clients and friends say they feel like hypocrites when giving out lifestyle advice to their patients because they struggle themselves.
There is a LOT to unpick with this topic. In this podcast episode we talk about why we find ourselves feeling like hypocrites, where these feelings might stem from and some steps we can take to start changing this narrative.

When you're trying to lose weight, it seems like exercise is a must in the equation. This in itself can be extremely daunting, especially is exercise is something you haven't dabbled in before.

As a follow on from the episode 10, this episode is looking at what the weight set point is, what leads to a high weight set point and the role insulin holds.
A body weight set point is a big area of discussion in the weight loss field. Equally, the role of insulin and the impact insulin has on gaining fat is important to try to understand.

Self-loathing never gets us anywhere - you know this because that negative conversation you've had with yourself has not led to the weight loss you were hoping for.
As medics and as mothers, we show compassion on a daily basis to those around us. It's safe to say, we have a lot of experience in this skill - yet we fail to apply that very same compassion to ourselves. Lack of compassion only drags us down the rabbit hole of never understanding why we feel rubbish, why our body size keeps growing and why we can't seem to shift the weight.
In this episode, we talk about what compassion and kindness are, why it's important and the steps you can take to start developing a more compassionate attitude towards yourself.

Emotional eating is a big problem many medic mums face. Our lives are full of emotions driven by the different hats we wear in life. Unfortunately, knowing how to deal with these emotions is lacking which is why so many emotionally eat. We respond to feelings by eating, instead of feeling.

Change your thoughts if you want to lose weight.
A bold statement. It doesn't involve a particular diet or exercise plan but it asks you to do something that is groundbreaking. Hard? Yes. Worth it? Absolutely.
In this episode, we discuss the relationship before events that occur, our thought responses and how this ultimately puts us in a place where we end up far from the results we are seeking.
