When we are looking at the spiritual practice of scripture in the life of a follower of Jesus, we must first ask the question: What was Jesus' view in regards to scripture?

SPEAKER: Michael Newton
SCRIPTURE: Mark 1v16-20
When Jesus called his disciples to follow Him, if we look at Jesus' life, ministry, and teaching His message wasn't to simply believe. It was those words "Follow Me" so what did it mean for those men in ancient Israel and what does it mean for us today?
It was a call to Apprenticeship with the goal of being with Jesus, becoming like Jesus, and doing what He did.

PURPOSE IN THE PROCESS
It is easy for a process to become the end of everything and that is what the people had done and what Jesus is speaking to. He reminds us it isn't about having the perfect prayer rhythm, fasting habit, or keeping the Sabbath. These are all meant as gifts for man to be connected with Him!

It is oftentimes surprising to see who Jesus chooses, it is the opposite of who we would naturally think. But this is the beauty of the Kingdom of God is that those that are willing to be open, honest, and vulnerable to them the Kingdom will be available.

We looked at what Jesus did in a 24 hour period... we will see what He did:
HE TAUGHT
HE HEALED
HE PRAYED
HE CLEANSED
All of these things are things we need in our own stories of redemption and are examples of what Jesus calls us to as His followers
Spiritual Warfare and Satan are not discussed enough in the church Graham Hitman comes to encourage those of us as believers that in Christ wea re free.
Sometimes we think the Spirit is calling us to pursue what is easy or what is comfortable but if we are following Jesus sometimes He calls us to the difficult places like the wilderness. Where there is isolation and temptation, its there where His work begins in us.
As we start the book of Mark we see that John the Baptist holds an important message but it was only meant to prepare the way for Jesus and to help correct where the path for the people of God had become crooked.
The only way we can have God be pleased with us is in the beauty of submitting to the Gospel of Jesus and not the gospel of sin management.
This week we had an opportunity to connect around a meal, sharing our lives, and praying for one another. Graham Hitman shared with the prompt for all of us.
This is the sermon from our Christmas Eve service where we celebrated that Light has Dawned.
SCRIPTURE:
2 The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness
a light has dawned.
5 Every warrior’s boot used in battle
and every garment rolled in blood
will be destined for burning,
will be fuel for the fire.
6 For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given,
and the government will be on his shoulders.
And he will be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7 Of the greatness of his government and peace
there will be no end.
He will reign on David’s throne
and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it
with justice and righteousness
from that time on and forever.
The zeal of the Lord Almighty
will accomplish this.
- ISAIAH 9v2,5-7
This morning we took time to dive into the birth narrative of Jesus from the book of Luke. We spent time looking at the historical context of what was going on at the birth of Jesus, as well as looking at the location that our Lord was birthed into.
We need to make room in our hearts for Jesus, unlike the city of Bethlehem we want to create space for Jesus to be in our lives in a deep and meaningful way.
Peace comes only through conflict and as we see as God in flesh comes into a world where there is anything but peace. The peace we all seek comes only through conflict.
The hope that we have as followers of Jesus is that we are not left on our own with our current state, but Jesus tenderly and lovingly comes to us and invites us into relationship with Him and makes whole!
As we celebrate the gift of Advent we are reminded of the darkness and the hope as the coming of Christ comes.
Graham shares an encouraging word on the beauty of family and the opportunity we have with them.
As we come into the Holiday season there is a lot of expectations, pressure, and emotion swirling around in what is supposed to be the most special time of year. How should we as follower of Jesus show up? We are supposed to show up with one simple word... LOVE
VISION 2022 - BECOME LIKE JESUS
As followers of Jesus we don't only want to be with Jesus but to slowly be transformed and become like Jesus.
Many times as followers of Jesus we end up pulled in a variety of directions and we sometimes get stuck with focusing on all the things around us rather than simply being with Jesus.
In this study of Psalm 23 we get to see and hear of how God is with us in the good, in the hard, and how His love continues.
As Paul closes the book of Galatians he had talked about the Gospel we hold, how we are shaped and formed inwardly by the Spirit and now to what does that manifest as the follower of Jesus.
As followers of Jesus one of the things that we have been given is Freedom but it's possible for us to never experience this freedom in our current day. Due to us either ignoring it or wasting it. This week we talked about how we can truly live into freedom and begin to bear the fruits of the Spirit.
This week we see how Paul comes to the church in Galatia questioning them where they are headed as they are tempted to go back to the old way of life.
So many times we struggle to feel worthy of love, value, and really belonging. Graham Hitman shares with us how we are worthy in Jesus and worthy of His work!
We are all formed by something... for the Galatians they had left the leading of the Spirit and were trying to be formed by fleshly actions.
This morning we talked how we are shaped and formed... is it intentional or not and in the pursuit of growing as a follower of Jesus are we pursuing this growth in the flesh or in the Spirit.
Join us as we continue our study in the book of Galatians.
This week we see how the Apostle Peter allowed the fear of man rob him from being faithful to the Gospel.
This week we will be talking about how God is at work in both the religious and non-religious and how the Gospel comes for us all.
SCRIPTURE: GALATIANS 2v1-10
As we start our series in the book of Galatians we are looking at how Paul was attacked on his and the Gospel's authenticity and how we can have confidence in the Gospel in our lives today. As we have an Authentic Gospel for an Authentic people.
SCRIPTURE FROM THIS GATHERING: Galatians 1
3 Now on the second day the heads of the fathers’ houses of all the people, with the priests and Levites, were gathered to Ezra the scribe, in order to understand the words of the Law. 14 And they found written in the Law, which the Lord had commanded by Moses, that the children of Israel should dwell in booths[c] during the feast of the seventh month, 15 and that they should announce and proclaim in all their cities and in Jerusalem, saying, “Go out to the mountain, and bring olive branches, branches of oil trees, myrtle branches, palm branches, and branches of leafy trees, to make booths, as it iswritten.”
16 Then the people went out and brought them and made themselves booths, each one on the roof of his house, or in their courtyards or the courts of the house of God, and in the open square of the Water Gate and in the open square of the Gate of Ephraim. 17 So the whole assembly of those who had returned from the captivity made [d]booths and sat under the booths; for since the days of Joshua the son of Nun until that day the children of Israel had not done so. And there was very great gladness. 18 Also day by day, from the first day until the last day, he read from the Book of the Law of God. And they kept the feast seven days; and on the eighth day there was a sacred assembly, according to the prescribed manner.
13 On the second day of the month, the heads of all the families, along with the priests and the Levites, gathered around Ezra the teacher to give attention to the words of the Law. 14 They found written in the Law, which the Lord had commanded through Moses, that the Israelites were to live in temporary shelters during the festival of the seventh month 15 and that they should proclaim this word and spread it throughout their towns and in Jerusalem: “Go out into the hill country and bring back branches from olive and wild olive trees, and from myrtles, palms and shade trees, to make temporary shelters”—as it is written.
16 So the people went out and brought back branches and built themselves temporary shelters on their own roofs, in their courtyards, in the courts of the house of God and in the square by the Water Gateand the one by the Gate of Ephraim. 17 The whole company that had returned from exile built temporary shelters and lived in them. From the days of Joshua son of Nun until that day, the Israelites had not celebrated it like this. And their joy was very great.
18 Day after day, from the first day to the last, Ezra read from the Book of the Law of God. They celebrated the festival for seven days, and on the eighth day, in accordance with the regulation, there was an assembly.

MATTHEW 6v9-13
9“This, then, is how you should pray:
“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11Give us today our daily bread.
12And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.’
