In this episode of Rhona Ask, Rhona is joined by David Hanson and his humanoid robot creation, Sophia.

David Hanson is the founder and CEO of Hanson Robotics, who are known for creating human-looking robots who have realistic facial expressions. They are best known for creating Sophia, who has received widespread media attention, and was the first robot to be granted citizenship. In November 2017, Sophia was named the United Nations Development Programme's first ever Innovation Champion, and is the first non-human to be given any United Nation title.

Dr. Nassir Navab is the Director of the Computer Aided Medical Procedures (CAMP) research team at both Technical University of Munich and Johns Hopkins University. He has also secondary faculty appointments at both affiliated Medical Schools. He is the inventor of 47 granted US. patents and more than 50 International ones. His current research interests include medical augmented reality, computer-assisted surgery, medical robotics, computer vision and machine learning.

Will radiologists and surgeons soon be replaced by Artificial Intelligence?

What will this mean for the future of health care?


On this episode of Rhona Ask, Rhona is joined by Dr. Stephen Aylward, to discuss the implications of A.I in medical image analysis.

Dr. Aylward is is Senior Director of Strategic Initiatives at Kitware. Kitware provides software research and development services in medical image analysis, computer vision, simulation, and scientific visualization. Kitware’s services build upon the open-source software that it manages, such as 3D Slicer, CMake, VTK, ITK, and ParaView.

Stephen is also an adjunct associate professor in computer science at UNC and chair of the MONAI deep learning system advisory board. His research is focused on point-of-care ultrasound applications and vascular network characterization for disease assessment.
