I've got something weighing heavily on my mind that I just can't shake off: procrastination. It's a silent dream killer, and today, I'm stepping up to share how it's been affecting me personally. For those who've been following, you might have noticed it's been a hot minute since my last talk – we're talking since the end of October last year, and now we're here in May 2024. Time flies, and it’s high time we address the elephant in the room.
Now, I know sticking to an evergreen content strategy is the norm – keeping things timeless and all. But sometimes, you've just got to break the mold and get real with your audience. So here I am, stutter and all, ready to get down to the nitty gritty. Speaking of getting real, did you know that pushing past 10 podcast episodes puts you in an elite group of podcasters? And here’s a kicker, update your podcast semi-annually, and you’re shining at the top. Surprisingly, I've managed to surpass these milestones, but here comes the irony.
The irony is sharp, considering I preach 'market you first,' yet here I am, trailing behind on my own advice. While I've been committed to delivering weekly episodes for a client, reaching an impressive 230 episodes without fail, my personal progress has been gathering dust since last October. It’s a wake-up call – being the cobbler who walks barefoot is no longer an option.
Reflecting on my journey, there was a time when I triumphed over a personal challenge, losing over 100 pounds and 54 inches. It wasn't easy, and regaining that weight wasn’t part of the plan. Yet, it highlighted an essential truth: energy and persistence conquer all things. Consistency is key, whether it’s losing weight, running a podcast, or any endeavor. It’s about pushing through, market you first, and stay persistent.
So here’s my vow – no more being a shoeless cobbler. Despite my behind-the-scenes diligence for clients, ensuring the train always runs on time, I’ve neglected my own station. But that ends today. I’m stoking a fire in my belly, ready to tackle ambitious goals head-on. This year, I’m writing a book, launching a membership site among other exciting ventures. It’s about embracing discomfort, staying hungry, and adopting the 'third monkey on the ark' mindset as rain clouds loom. Let this be the spark to light a fire under you too.
If there’s one takeaway from all this, let it be the importance of marketing yourself first. It’s a lesson I’ve learned the hard way, but it’s never too late to change course. Stay uncomfortable, stay ambitious, and remember, action begets action. I hope this message ignites a spark within you as it has in me. Keep pushing forward, and until our next chat, have a dynamite day.
Hello, and welcome to another episode of the 'Market YOU First' Podcast. I'm your host, Wes Wyatt, and today we're diving deep into the core philosophy that drives this show: Market YOU First! You've heard me say, 'I coach clients to sell themselves, NOT what they sell.' Today, we're going to unpack what that means.
Alright, so why 'Market YOU First?' Let's get into it. Today, people are absolutely inundated with products, services, and advertisements. You've got a split second to catch someone's attention. So, how do you make your pitch memorable? Simple. You start with the most unique feature of your offering: YOU. That's right, nobody else can be you, and that's your ultimate edge in the marketplace.
Authenticity is currency. I recently had the opportunity to fly out to Sacramento and meet up with Living Legend and the author of the book series, 'The Closers' - Ben Gay III (Connect and ENGAGE with him on LinkedIn!). During our conversations - I discovered he'd coined a phrase I and thousands of other salespeople and marketers have been saying for years. "People do business with those they know, like, and trust." When people believe in you, they naturally become interested in what you're selling. I'm not saying the product or service doesn't matter; it does. But the point is people are more likely to trust a brand or buy a product when they feel connected to the person behind it. Your personality, your values, your story—these are not just icing on the cake; they're integral ingredients that make the cake worth eating.
So, the key takeaway is that before you go about marketing your products, services, or whatever else, invest time in marketing YOU. Your audience needs to know who you are, what you stand for, and why you do what you do. And that's what this podcast series is all about. We will explore different strategies, hear from experts, and get into the nitty-gritty of how to effectively 'Market YOU First.'
Thanks for tuning in to this introductory episode. Trust me, you will want to see what we've lined up for you in the coming weeks. Until next time - remember the best brand you can offer to the world is yourself, and have a DYNAMITE 🧨 day!
I recently saw a post by Harry Spaight with the statement, "Everything that happens is neutral. We choose how we are going to react."
Walter Bradford Cannon is credited with the reactions of Fight, Flight, or Freeze.
Which one do you usually fall into? You more than likely take the same path for most situations that occur, but if you're not sure - there are evaluations like DISC that will give you a peek into your behavior.
Also, keep in mind that not all situations are the same. For instance, the way you behave 99% of the time might change if someone was pointing a loaded gun at you. Other factors that could play into the mix are temperature, financial situation, mood, and urgency - to name a few. Because of this, there are innumerable combinations of reactions that could occur.
Hopefully, most of us will avoid the Flight and Freeze - but how we react within Fight is what what we're concerned with.
With all of the above considered - I want to go back to Harry's statement about everything being neutral. So many things in life are out of our control. Barring the factors mentioned above - wouldn't it be nice to be firmly in control of your reactions?
Let me give you an example of something from my childhood. A family friend of ours had just purchased a new bass boat. His son and I took it out one afternoon - and while zigging and zagging in it, the seat I was on snapped off at the base. Had we been on a river that led out of the state - we would have cut ties and been gone! Instead, we had to go back to the dock and explain why the brand-new boat was damaged. We showed his dad what happened, and he loudly asked, "DID YOU BREAK IT ON PURPOSE?!?" Scared to death, we answered no. He shrugged and said, "OK." I KNOW at that moment he probably wanted to strangle both of us and fill the air with a lovely variety of swear words - but he didn't.
I'm not suggesting you go completely zen with every situation you encounter. But instead of throwing up your arms and screaming, "SERENITY NOW!!!" like Frank Constanza on Seinfeld - take a breath or twenty and think before you react. Doing so - I think you'll get better and better at how you handle things.

Part of the Market YOU First Mentality is knowing your worth and NOT giving people discounts on it!
I recently had someone repeatedly reach out to me and a business partner wanting to connect. My business partner spoke to them first, so I knew they weren't a BOT or someone with an ulterior motive like talking about Cryptocurrency Mining or their Billionaire Uncle that needs a contact in the U.S. to accept millions of dollars.
For the record, I'm not trying to come off as holier than thou, guilty of never having missed an appointment, or someone should feel lucky getting to talk with me. This person repeatedly badgered me about engaging.
I messaged them the first time so they'd know I was in the room ready to go (1:50p for a 2:00p Meeting). They responded by saying, "Sorry for the late notice, is it possible to reschedule? I’m unexpectedly running errands." Unexpectedly?
After they'd badgered me, I was NOT happy, as I'd stayed home and hadn't done anything to meet with them. Reluctantly - I later agreed to reschedule. After all - life happens, right?!?
I rescheduled for the following Wednesday. They confirm and say, "That works." I jokingly (Not really) respond, "NO errands this time!" To which they respond, "I’ll be home!" Later that afternoon, I got the message, "Does Tuesday work for you? I just remembered a webinar I had told the organizer I’d be part of." Thinking, here we go AGAIN - I went against my better judgment but agreed.
That brings us to today (A.K.A., the Tuesday THEY requested). I'm sitting and waiting from 1:50 to 2:05p - twiddling my thumbs! I messaged them and said, "OK, name - I tried! You CLEARLY don't respect my time and/or want to engage. Have a DYNAMITE day!" They respond, "I apologize. I lost track of time."
Sorry, but there are FAR too many things available to us these days to forget an appointment. It's simply UNACCEPTABLE!
So if you're doing this - STOP IT! Instead - adopt the attitude, "Unless you're early - you're LATE!" Even more importantly - put VALUE on your time and stop discounting it!

Have you ever heard someone use the phrase,
“How You Do Anything is How You Do Everything”
My son recently reminded me of this while discussing the use of turn signals. After he scolded me for not using one alone at a turn - I replied, there's nobody here to see it. That's when he unloaded that phrase I'd used on him dozens of times.
I bring it up because POSITIVE consistency is so important!
I do another podcast entitled Warehouse Safety Tips. Our last episode marked 161 weeks in a row. Yet my last post here was over a month ago. And that brings us to the second item of importance - treating yourself as a client.
Why do you think I've never missed a week of Warehouse Safety Tips? I'd NEVER purposely let down a client like that. Yet I'd do it to myself?
If you're doing this - stop immediately! Treat yourself like you would a client - and watch the magic happen!
Make room for YOUR time blocks - and be sure to complete them consistently.

"A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle."
This quote by James Keller is something I'd love you to interalize today!
Here on the Market YOU First Podcast - we encourage people to do precisely what the name implies. While doing so, you don't have to focus on yourself alone. Be sure to give credit and kudos when due!
Sometimes people need to know that the things they're doing make a difference. Don't confuse that with recognition. Think of it as an echo. If you yelled into a well or valley and didn't hear an echo back - you wouldn't keep yelling to hear one.
I was having a video conversation a few days ago with a marketer and let them know a training they'd done a while back was great. They seemed surprised that I was aware of it - and the next day they started promoting it again. How cool is that?
Did I lose anything from giving them this compliment? NOPE! I'd even argue that instead of taking away anything, it actually made BOTH of us feel good!
On a completely different angle, credit and kudos provided at the right time just might be the thing someone desparately needed to hear. In a world where people rant and rave about what they don't like - be someone that raises people up and points out the things that are awesome!

A couple of months ago - some issues I was experiencing caused me to do a 180 with my diet and exercise routine. A better way to explain it would be - I realized if I didn't start on my way to being healthy, I might not be around.
We've all heard the saying, "Garbage In, Garbage Out," for our diets. But we may not have heard the saying: "If You're Not Moving, You're Dying," for our bodies.
When you're lethargic and sedimentary - your body loses. This is just a small list of the things that can occur when you choose to stop moving:
Try to implement a few or all of these simple steps:
The idea of retiring sounds fun to someone who dislikes their job. But, when you think about how many people take a turn for the worst after retiring - it doesn't seem as appealing. Instead - find something you love to do and keep moving!

Have you ever heard someone say - "We don't have enough money to have kids.", "It's not the right time to buy a house.", or "I'll go back to school next year."?
Spoiler Alert - for an overwhelming percentage of people, waiting for the 'right' time is code, for it will never happen.
I preach about working within a 'New YOU Day' rather than the concept of resolutions on New Year's Day. Why? First - it puts YOU in front. Second - it allows for an INSTANT reset if you foul up.
Another Spoiler Alert - you're gonna foul up!
Do yourself a favor and realize something right this moment. Someday isn't a day of the week. If you want to change your life, you must act RIGHT NOW! NOT tomorrow, Monday, after the holidays, or whatever other roadblock you throw in front of your goals. RIGHT NOW is the only option!
Last Spoiler Alert - STOP thinking you're going to get a tomorrow! We're not promised the next second, let alone the next day. Why would you risk putting off something you want or need to start?
I know you have something you've wanted to start! START IT! Break free of whatever is holding you back - and DO IT! You got this!

Several years ago - PetaPixel had an article based on a picture of a crowd that went viral. The reason it went viral was almost everyone in the shot had mobile phones in their hands except one older lady. She seemed perfectly content simply enjoying the moment and living in the now - rather than attempting to digitally capture the moment. I've included a link to the post in the Episode Description if you'd like to see it.
PetaPixel | Woman Spotted Without Phone Camera Out, Is Now an Internet Sensation
Every couple of years - we visit Hocking Hills State Park. As the name implies - it's a very hilly area of Ohio and cell coverage can be spotty at best. If you're looking to get off the grid and relax for a few days - it's an ideal place to stay because it forces you to live in the now without all the gadgets.
I bring all this up because something out of the ordinary happened to me yesterday. I arrived at the gym and realized I didn't have my watch. This isn't important because of time (I DO know how to read a clock) - but because I wasn't going to be able to track my workout. After all - if you don't track it, it didn't happen. Right? In case you didn't catch it - I'm absolutely being sarcastic. However, I DID entertain the idea of turning around and getting it. Then I come to my senses and realized I'm working on ME - not a log of workouts. Sure - my steps and circles wouldn't be closed for the day, but I'd still have the satisfaction of knowing I'd put in the work.
I scratch my head when I see people doing something nice and documenting it. Primarily because A LOT of them are staged, but mainly because it takes away from why you're doing it in the first place. And although recording and posting workouts aren't the same - they both straddle the "LOOK AT ME!" line.
Keeping the "Market YOU First" concept in mind - don't be afraid to live in the now and do things that only you know about. Believe me - there's NO lack of information being logged in out there. If you miss a moment on the grid - the world WILL continue to spin!

John D. Rockefeller said, "I would rather earn 1% off 100 people's efforts than 100% of my own efforts."
In a world of Unemployment Benefits, Stimulus Checks, and Loan Paybacks - wouldn't you prefer to create your OWN wealth? You CAN do it!
Something you know and/or are passionate about can be made into a product. And you can get affiliates to market it FOR you!
In Network Marketing - everyone you share your product or service with that goes out and does the same - makes you money.
In insurance and real estate - when you add people to your team, you benefit from every deal they write.
And the examples go on and on and on!
Don't listen to the news and naysayers! We live in a country of HUGE opportunity! You just gotta hustle to make it happen!

At this time of year - everyone's putting up pictures of their children's first day of school or college. In addition - pics from the past are popping up across social media platforms.
You look at these pics and ask yourself, "Where does the time go?!?"
Without going into a bunch of details (Much of which you'd be completely uninterested in) - I've been CRAZY busy! In this rush of craziness - I noticed it had been over a month since I'd done a new podcast.
Again, I ask myself, "Where does the time go?!?"
One thing that has been holding my time is getting used to a new health routine. Not only am I not allowed to have my beloved dark friend - the coffee bean, but I'm also on a very restrictive diet. And as with most health routines - I'm also introducing more physical conditioning into the mix.
Creating new routines, finding the time to do them, and most importantly, doing them can be quite a task! Whether it's a new health routine or getting out regular podcast episodes - you have to make the time and follow through!
Benjamin Franklin is one of my favorite people to quote. He said,
“If You Fail to Plan, You Are Planning to Fail” Here's the deal. Time is going to pass regardless of whether you have a plan or not. Wouldn't you prefer to be on the winning side of time? I know I do!

I heard a marketer talking today about the money you can make with MLM (Multi-Level Marketing).
In a world where people are looking for side hustles to make ends meet - this is very tempting to those unaware of the industry.
They stated that with just the right six people doing what they're supposed to do, seeing what you see, and wanting the same things you want - you could earn up to well over 23K per month. After giving this number, they said, "...not an Income Claim - just the math." Guess what? That's just a huge load of B.S.!Chasing the concept of "...just the math." will cause 97-99+% of people to lose. And that's NOT a "...just the math." statement - but a "Numbers Don't Lie" statement.
So even though the numbers don't lie - unfortunately, many marketers DO! Or, at the very least - they stretch what's potentially true until it's about to snap!
If you want a real look at MLM - compare it to that of a beer commercial. You see beautiful people doing fun stuff and behaving responsibly. How does that compare to most real-life beer drinking? An OVERWHELMING amount of times - it DOESN'T! The same is true of MLM. You have a MINUSCULE group of people showing you their lifestyle and attributing it to MLM. You don't see the 99+% of people who don't make money and lose it.
Before someone brings it up in the comments - let me give a preemptive strike. People will say...
"Oh yeah, Wes?!? WELL, what about all the people licensed in beauty, real estate, and insurance - but never do anything with it?!? I guess those are dodgy professions too, HUH?!?"
EVERY profession and activity has people that never take action. That's just human nature. But the above examples are just another part of the tapestry companies, and "leaders" weave into their stories to sway you. It's like the "Right Six People" statement at the beginning of this post. That's a dreamy way of saying, "Find six people who in turn will bring on six people who also bring on six people (down SEVERAL more levels) - who ALL purchase a specific amount of product every month (As well as any other requirements) - and never stop the process." Saying this to someone with a straight face HAS to be hard!
And don't think I'm simply regurgitating numbers and information. Since joining my first MLM in the late 80's - I've been in dozens of them. And even though I can give kudos and praise to a couple of them, most were a disappointment and not something I would suggest people do.
Have you ever heard the following sayings?
***"Birds Of A Feather Flock Together."
"You Can't Soar Like An Eagle When You Surround Yourself With Turkeys."
"If You're The Smartest Person In The Room - You Need To Find A Different Room!"***
What "Birds Of A Feather" means is that usually those with the same characteristics or attributes are usually found in the same groups.
I've recently observed a couple of groups containing people I know providing over-the-top support and kudos to the leaders and heads of those groups.
Is your group or mastermind full of pleasers and "yes-men" or people that will hold you accountable and help you grow?
If you answered yes to the first portion of that question - you're probably among turkeys and need to find a new room. If you're among the second portion - then you're probably an eagle looking to sharpen its talons and get after it!
Life is simply too short to surround yourself with those unable to help you grow.
Stretch your wings and SOAR!!!

The very first episode of Market YOU First was entitled, "Are You A Brandnomer?"
To refresh your memory - a Brandnomer is where a brand name becomes synonymous with a product type. Examples of this would be Uber - which is actually just a car service, Jell-O - which is gelatin, and Q-Tips - which are cotton swabs. But since they've become Brandnomers - you'll rarely hear people call them that. Selling your authentic self and making that your product/service above all else will keep you in business no matter what it is you're attaching it to.
But there's more to branding than just being synonymous with a product type. It also includes (But, isn't limited to...) colors, logo, jingles, fonts, and slogans. In essence - the things that people immediately recognize as your brand.
I just mentioned fonts. Have you ever seen words arranged the same way as a logo you're familiar with or with the same fonts? It immediately gets your brain working towards where you know it from. And THAT'S successful branding!
Branding is a lot like operating an old water pump. You have to pump really hard to get it started - but if you keep pumping, the water flows much easier. With branding, if you put in the work to make your brand recognized - you can stay top of mind by just staying in front of people. One of the differences between pumping water and gaining brand recognition is as follows. When you stop pumping water, the water stops flowing - but when you gain true brand recognition, it will stick in people's minds long after the product or service isn't advertised or goes away. That's why you tend to remember jingles and commercials from when you were a kid. Someone did a GREAT job in branding!

On our podcast today, I have a call to action for most of you listening - including yours truly!
Are you putting the YOU in your hustle?
REALLY step back and think about this one for a bit. I'm not hinting that you or I aren't working hard. What I'm referring to is, who benefits the most from your hustle? Is it you? Or are you busting your butt to build someone else's dream? If it's the first option - BRAVO! If it's the second - we have A LOT of work to do!
Regardless of what you have to do to free up time and work on your own hustle - DO IT!
Does that mean you drop the Softball, Bowling, or Fantasy Sports Leagues? Do you stop binge-watching Netflix? Do you give up partying or playing poker on the weekends? Or do you quit sleeping in? It depends. Do you want to win? Or do you want to watch your boss or competition keep winning?
There's an awesome African Proverb that's extremely fitting for this podcast.
“Every morning in Africa, an antelope wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion, or it will be killed. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest antelope, or it will starve. It doesn’t matter whether you’re the lion or an antelope – when the sun comes up, you’d better be running.”
Don't wait until you're backed into a corner to take action. Make your actions benefit YOU!
If you read the book, "The Slight Edge" by Jeff Olson - you'll know that if you string together more slight disciplines over slight errors in judgment - you'll be on your way to success! And compounded by time - those disciplines will make all the difference in the world! But you have to start making them!
And guess what? You can do it!

I'm always intrigued by people that say, "I just don't have the time." An even better version of it is, "I just can't find the time." If 10 of the people that say that would let me follow them around on one of their perceived busiest days, I'd be willing to bet I could find an excessive amount of time that could be allocated better for at least 8 or 9 of 'em.
Why? We (YEP - I'm including myself!) major in minor things. Are those minor things fun sometimes? Absolutely - but, are they musts in our life? Nope!
When was the last time you took inventory of how you spend your time? I mean REALLY dug down deep and examined it? After all - it's quite possibly the most important thing we have in our lives. Unlike money or stuff we've bought with it - once it's gone, you can never get it back. And even more importantly - we have no idea how much of it we have at any given time. So it's very likely the most important thing we have!
To see what sort of time I could wring out of my current work schedule - I decided to take the following approach. If it (The things I'm doing) doesn't enrich it (My life) - ditch it (Don't do it)!
***en·rich - /inˈriCH,enˈriCH/
verb: Improve or enhance the quality or value of.***Examples of this could be:
So many of the things we do in a day take us down rabbit holes that suck valuable time away from us.
If you stop and ask yourself, "Does this enrich me?" every time you're getting ready to do something - eventually you'll train yourself to seek out things that enrich you.
I hope this allows you to find the time you didn't think you had.

I had two interactions recently that created this podcast.
One was a picture of a guy standing on the top rail of a Scissor Lift, straining to reach the ceiling of a building. If you're not familiar with what a Scissor Lift is - it's usually used to paint, change light bulbs, or work in really high places. The irony of the pic I saw, was the guy didn't have the Scissor Lift extended. And the pic had an overlay that said, "If only there were a tool that could assist him!"
The other interaction occurred while talking to a friend. He told me his main job had kept him so busy, that he hadn't had time to do any marketing. I told him, "I see posts from you every day." But I know they're not from him. They're from an automatic posting service. But nobody else knows that.
One interaction was working hard, and the other interaction was working smart.
Both had the same message. Use the tools at your disposal!
In today's world - there's a tool or app for just about every job. We just need to take advantage of them.

Today I want to introduce you to 2 people.
"John" is a member of an online game you play where participation and engagement are very important to the team's success. He hasn't been active and doesn't contribute to the team.
"Jane" is also a member of the above-mentioned game. Like "John," she's very inactive and doesn't contribute to the team/game.
There are 50 players on a team - so having two inactive players affects 4% of your team. There's a player chat you're able to see - so you might see things like "Give 'em the boot!", "Tell them to get cookin' or get out of the kitchen!" and other comments. Other team members see this and will either join in or put those complaining in their place.
Many times, inactive teammates are just that. Other times, they have situations you know nothing about that explain why they're inactive.
In the case of "John," he has been gone from the game for a long period of time. Why? He's been deployed and hasn't had access to the Internet.
"Jane" has gone from spouse to spouse/caregiver. Her husband had a Brain Injury they've been dealing with.
The team members calling for their dismissal felt like total jerks when they found out why they'd been away!
When you put blinders on and focus on yourself - you don't have time to worry about the behavior of others. It doesn't matter if their actions fit your expectations - because you have your own actions to monitor.
Now keep in mind - we're talking about a game here. Is it important to have as many players dialed in for success? Yes! Is it the end of the world if you hold the positions of a few players that are going through some stuff? No! If this were real life and those team members were causing the bottom line to dip or something else negative in nature - you might have to take different actions.
Although it comes in a long format, the moral of all this is to focus on you! Don't worry about what others are doing. Especially if you don't know the full story.

Every now and again, you find things you had no idea existed!
It might be people racing at full speed down an incredibly steep hill, pretending to be horses and jumping obstacles, or THIS. (For those of you listening to this podcast - the "this" I'm referencing is a link to a video of people racing chariots with motorcycles hooked to the front instead of horses. And they're racing in front of thousands of cheering fans!)
And those are the TAME things that are out there!
If you have an itch - there's a niche to scratch it!
My point is this. If you're really into something - you're probably not alone, and there are probably fans anxious to cheer it on.
I promise you - these things didn't just have a build-in interest. It's like the movie "Fight Club." One guy started fighting himself, and others joined in with his ideals. Next thing you know - he couldn't stop it if he tried.
Here at Market YOU First - as you can imagine, we're ALL about people being entrepreneurial and working for themselves! And we one hundred percent believe in the words of Mark Twain -
"Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life."It most likely won't be an easy road to success - but imagine your life after putting some focused time and effort into your passions! You'll be doing what you love every day and being one of the top influencers within the niche!
So go find your niche and DOMINATE in it!

One of the things you attempt to do when blogging and podcasting is to stay evergreen. In a nutshell - it means the information will be relevant and without a time frame regardless of when it's viewed. Spoiler Alert - this podcast will break that rule today.
We're going to be talking about assumptions. But, before we do that - let's provide a story to be presumptuous with.
Unless you've been under a rock - you're probably aware that Elon Musk bought Twitter for approximately 44 BILLION (Yep - with a "B") Dollars!
Immediately after the news broke on the purchase - reports of people saying they were deleting their accounts started flowing in. Here's my take on the situation.
Just for the record, the 3 opinions listed above are just that - opinions. You might even say I'm being presumptuous. I'd disagree. For my take on all this - I'm going with the adjective form of the word assuming.
"Taking too much for granted"
Based on previous actions in Hollywood and politics - I think people have exhibited one or more of those points on numerous occasions - and thus, I'm not taking too much for granted.
However, their leaving BEFORE any changes have been made whatsoever IS very presumptuous!
Ever since I was a kid - I've heard the saying, "When you assume - it makes an ASS out of U and ME."
Jumping forward before you have enough information to make an informed decision is the way I'd define assuming in the context of this post. And doing so is never a good idea!
We all have opinions - but before publicly locking into them, make sure you haven't spoken out of turn. Remember - you can't unring a bell!
Here are links to my various Social Media Platforms - with posts dealing with this topic.
Let me know your two cents on assuming and Elon buying Twitter.

Have you ever heard of someone sending out an S.O.S.? It was originally used in maritime as a Morse Code Distress Call to request help or rescue.
In recent years - it's turned into an acronym for Shiny Object Syndrome.
In the marketing world - this syndrome runs absolutely rampant! And hopefully, by the end of this podcast - you won't need to send out the before-mentioned distress call because you've fallen victim to it.
You can't go an hour online without seeing a new offer - probably DOZENS! And if the copywriters and marketers have done their job correctly - they'll have you experiencing a major case of yet another acronym - F.O.M.O. (Fear Of Missing Out).
They'll tell you things like,
*"You're already using "X". What if you could get paid for sharing it with your friends, family, and contacts? You're already doing it (Talking about it)! Why not get paid for it?!?"
"One of the TIPTOP marketers of all time has come out of retirement to market this company - and you'll be on their team!"
"You can get in on the ground floor!"*
And on...and on...and ON!
Full disclosure - I've been in and still participate in both Network Marketing and Affiliate Marketing. I'm not disparaging either.
My approval of them does come with three huge warnings.
One - when you get involved with either, make sure you follow the name of this podcast and "Market YOU First"! Don't be THAT person that is in the N.F.L. (No Friends/Family Left - yep yet ANOTHER acronym!). Sell yourself, NOT what you sell!
Two - do you really think marketers are going to tell the one hundred percent truth where making money is concerned? If so - I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you - CHEAP! Just like Las Vegas wasn't built on winners - most opportunities aren't built on success stories and the people walking the stage. Sorry - they just aren't.
Three - regardless of how incredible the "opportunity" appears to be - if it's going to take your attention away from what you're currently intent on building, then don't do it. You can't ride two horses with one butt! If it's as good as advertised - it'll be there when you're ready to take it on. Don't fall victim to Shiny Object Syndrome!
At the time of this podcast - I'm wearing a "Back To The Future" t-shirt. If I could only go back and coach myself - I'd save myself countless amounts of time and money. So KNOW this message comes from someone who's been there, done that, and has the experience and event lanyards to prove it!

Have you ever been on a live video or blog post and noticed comments promoting something or someone completely different than that of the featured individual(s) or company?
Sometimes it's something minor like this. The host of the video is drinking a 5-Hour Energy Drink. A person commenting says, "That drink is garbage on your system! Would you like to know about a healthy alternative?" 9 out of 10 times - that person is going to pitch an MLM or Direct Sales Product they're involved with.
Others will just flood the comments with links and info until blocked or banned.
Both of these moves are wrong!
On this podcast - we preach the "Market YOU First" mindset. But doing so on someone else's time and platforms isn't part of that mindset.
If you're doing this - STOP! You might get a couple of bites from it - but the damage you'll do to the relationship between you and the featured individual(s) or company might be irreversible.

They say follow-through is one of the things that makes for an awesome Golf Swing. You may not golf - but, you probably do say you're going to complete things.
When you do so - do people roll their eyes, or do they nod in agreement?
You wouldn't think keeping the trains running would be a difficult thing to complete - but it is!
And don't complete things for the sole reason of being paid to do so. Do it because you SAID you would!
That's where you leave the majority of people who just give lip service as opposed to being productive in the dust!

I'm always intrigued by people that say, "I don't have any extra time!"
Nine times out of ten - I could follow those people around and find lots of extra time.
But, this isn't about other people - it's about me. I'm the YOU in "Market YOU First." And when I talk about myself, please apply what I'm talking about to you.
We spend too much time focusing on things that don't matter or rabbit holes that take us far from the tasks.
Whether it's via Time Blocking (Which I'm doing right now.) or another focused process - be sure to work harder to put what's important at the front of the line. Put on blinders and stay laser-focused on the task at hand. Don't give in to shiny objects until you've completed the top activities on your to-do list.
It's ok and recommended to allow yourself short breaks between work sessions. Just don't let quick turn into long or continuous distractions.
And after you've worked harder than ever - be sure to reward yourself by playing harder than ever. Trying to work without the play will eventually cause you to burn out.
Try this for a few days or weeks, and let me know how it works out for you.

My family and I met a friend of mine for dinner last night. That friend is Randy Chaffee - the host of Building Wins LIVE. I produce, direct, and sometimes co-host the show.
Dinner was done - and it was time for dessert.
Randy asked our waitress, "Does it (The Pecan Pie) come with ice cream?" Rather than saying, "No.", "I don't know?", and/or something else negative - she replied with a smile, "It could..."
When was the last time you were that accommodating for a customer? We live in a world where people have put great customer service on the back burner. Bring it back front of mind, tell customers what you CAN do, and watch the magic happen!

I titled this episode of the podcast "Obsession".
I looked up the official definition of "obsession" on Merriam-Webster - and it read, "a persistent disturbing preoccupation with an often unreasonable idea or feeling". There are a couple of words in that definition - specifically "disturbing" and "unreasonable" - that I disagree with. Or maybe the way we use it in conversation is wrong?
Maybe the word "Focused" - Defined by Merriam-Webster as, "having the mind fixed on something" - is more relevant and less negative.
Regardless of how you choose to describe your actions for concentrating on something - I do believe you get what you keep front of mind.
The same is true of who you associate with. Jim Rohn said, “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”
I bring all this up because I was thinking about just a few short years back - and how my life has drastically changed.
Did I find a lamp with a genie in it? Nope! I wrote down all the things I wanted to do and have - and revisited those lists over and over again. My thoughts and actions were on getting from where I was to where I wanted to be. I was absolutely laser-focused and bulletproof in my pursuits to achieve the things on the list.
One of the things I listed during that time was getting in better shape. I joined a local Weight Loss Challenge. Although it was meant as a joke - I stated I was going to win the entire thing. If this were among a few friends or something, it wouldn't have been that large of a statement, but this challenge had over 600 people and dozens of teams. We had to put down what we intended on releasing (As opposed to losing) for the entire challenge - so I put down a total of 50 lbs. I figured that would be quite a task to achieve in the 4 months to follow. The first week I lost 21 lbs and the first month that rocketed to 50 lbs - and landed me in FIRST place for the entire challenge. At that point - I went from joking about winning the whole thing to being determined to do it. I did social media posts every day from the gym, did weigh-in results on social media every week, checked in on social media from the monthly challenge meetings, and participated in all sorts of groups as well. And at the end of the challenge, I was the individual winner! I released 97 lbs and 52 inches.
A quote I keep at the ready is one I love from Benjamin Franklin. He said, "Energy and persistence conquer all things."
If you take consistent positive actions toward what you want - you can do almost anything!
I'm going to do something I haven't done before. I have something else to attach to my point - but I'm going to do it on the next podcast titled "Who's Quest Are You On?" So do me a favor and listen to that podcast as soon as you're done with this one.

On my previous podcast titled "Obsession", I spoke about a Weight Loss Challenge I won with the power of intense focus. If you haven't already done so, please go back and listen to that podcast before continuing on with this one.
I bring up the challenge because something I didn't mention on the previous podcast was at the same time I started the challenge, I'd also joined a Network Marketing Company with health products. In addition to the weight and inches I released, I was welcoming lots of new coaching clients to the Network Marketing Company. But guess what? I NEVER mentioned the Network Marketing Company I was involved with. Not ONCE!
That's why I titled this podcast, "Who's Quest Are You On?"
When you're out there marketing your fingers to the bone - do you want to build someone else's business and dream or your own?
Long before I started this podcast, the concept of "Market YOU First" was something I believed in.
I knew I wanted to sell ME - not the company and products I was using. Even though that company has incredible products, culture, and results - I wanted people to trust in ME! What I would do for them, the tips/tricks/nuggets I could provide, and the overall coaching I'd bring to the table.
At the same time - I didn't want to inadvertently break some policy or compliance. So by making ME the walking talking billboard of what I was doing - I was 100% compliant in my marketing.
There are numerous other reasons why you always want to lead with yourself - but, we'll cover those in future podcasts.
For now - just remember to always sell YOU, NOT what you sell.
Do that and you'll be well on your way to building your empire - and not someone else's.

Hey everyone, it IS Wes Wyatt - and I'd like to welcome you to Episode 20 of Market YOU First!
I've been crazy busy as of late - and let time get away from me on getting out new episodes. So I apologize for the delay and thank you for your continued listening.
With all that said - it's Valentine's Day, so if you haven't already done so - make sure you wish your special someone a Happy Valentine's Day! In addition to it being Valentine's Day - it's also the Monday after the big football game. Since the actual name is trademarked - I don't have the bread to call it by its actual name. But if you're a sports fan - you know what game I'm referring to.
As you can probably imagine - being an evangelistic sports fan is pretty much the polar opposite to what I coach in Market YOU First. Now don't take that or anything like it as bad. Just know where it starts to go off the rails.
What I mean by that is this. The idea behind Market YOU First is - I coach people to sell themselves, NOT what they sell.
Again - if you're evangelistic about sports, movies, animals, music, and/or religion (No pun intended) - there's NOTHING wrong with that. But when cheering on whatever cause it is - don't forget YOU are a major part of the word "Support" (See what I did there!).
Without YOU - the players, teams, bands, authors, actors, and/or organizations don't exist.
YOU have A LOT more power than you think! And unfortunately - many of the before mentioned people and whatnot have forgotten that and where they come from. Without YOU - they don't have any power. No expensive salaries, cars, jewelry, houses, and/or television ads! NOTHING!
So, support any of the above-mentioned things you want to - but just never forget the power of YOU!
Take a moment today and root for your immediate home team - YOU!
Give yourself some powerful affirmations to attack the day with, exceed them, and take on the day like it took your lunch money in 3rd Grade!
Do that - and your team wins EVERY day! Not just on that particular Sunday each year!

The great Jim Rohn was responsible for a lot of incredible quotes - but, one we're focusing on today is -
“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”
Assuming this is true - what do you think your average is?
It's often said, "If you're the smartest person in the room, you need to find a different room."
Both these quotes lend way to the same sort of concept. You NEED to surround yourself with people that raise you up - not ones that bring you down. And it applies to relationships, emotions, knowledge, skills, and many other factors.
Whether it's via Toastmasters, Chambers of Commerce, masterminds, book clubs, and/or coffee with friends - strive to make the majority of time spent advantageous to your positive growth. Seek out people and situations that raise your bar of excellence - not those that lower it. It's all about constant and never-ending improvement.
Positive growth in every facet of your life - should be a pursuit that never reaches a summit, but instead makes you better every step of the climb.

In past episodes of the podcast - I've spoken about freedom, working for yourself, and autonomy. And although this episode isn't about those three topics - I do want to give kudos to all of them.
Other than a select couple of days - for the last 6 weeks I've been in the grips of what has been THE worst cold I've ever had. And since I've been around for over 5 decades - that's a pretty good record to beat. It's not been a fun ride - but, knock on wood - I do think the worst is behind me.
But without the previously mentioned freedom, working for myself, and autonomy - there's absolutely NO way I could have managed to keep in good standing within a traditional job. I without a doubt would have burned through ALL my sick days, vacation time, and at the very least would have had to have applied for and been accepted to take part in some sort of short-term disability. Long story short - I would have exhausted almost all available time for the entire year or more in one shot. And that wouldn't have bode well for the remainder of the remaining year. So once again - I'm here to scream from the rooftops to get your entrepreneurial juices flowing and get something in place to go from some time to part-time to full-time and move from a W2 Life to that of a 1099 one. The benefits of doing so are too numerous to mention!
And with all that said - our episode today is all about engagement.
I always speak about the importance of putting the SOCIAL back into Social Media. On the same note, we need to do the exact same thing with traditional communication. Both things require one overwhelming action - ENGAGEMENT. In the simplest of terms, beyond the literal definition of engaging or being engaged - engagement is participating, taking part, sharing, and partaking. It's jumping headfirst into the engagement you're in at the moment with TRUE intentions of being invested in what you're being told. It's turning off your favorite radio station - WIIFM (What's In It For Me?) and being receptive.
Now with a podcast named Market YOU First - people might think it leans to that WIIFM side of things. But, it's in the marketing of YOU and not what you sell - and that's pretty much where the YOU part of it starts to die down. I tell you this because if you've been around for any amount of time whatsoever - you've probably heard the phrase, "People don't care what you know until they know that you care." So, on the same topic - when speaking to people - try to analyze and sympathize BEFORE forming a judgment or opinion. Case in point - you might be one of the most awesome and caring people on the planet. But if someone spoke to you while you were sick, grieving, mad, concerned, and/or in another mood-altering state - would they still find you to be awesome and caring? Asking yourself, "What's going on with this person?" and even exploring it with questions during a conversation might change your entire thought process on a person.
Being real and engaging both on and offline will pay dividends your entire life!

Are you familiar with the word Autonomy (au·ton·o·my)? It means - freedom from external control or influence; independence. Simply put - FREEDOM!
I spoke about this in Episode 3 | Find Your Freedom!
For the last month - I've had the worst bug I've experienced in my 53 years on this planet! Yesterday was the first time I've felt even remotely good - and last night was the first time I was able to sleep in my bed. I've been in a hospital bed and/or recliner for the last 4 weeks straight!
I don't bring this up for you to feel bad for me - but instead to illustrate a point. If you work in a traditional job - you probably get around 5 days of Sick Time and 1-3 weeks of Vacation Time. Once you've burned through your Sick Days - you almost always have to dip into either Vacation Days and/or Short-Term Disability (If your company even offers it). With this last run of whatever it is I had - I would have exhausted EVERY day possible and then some. And being gone from any position for 4 weeks is a risky one.
But working for yourself and having the before mentioned freedom - allows you to make your own hours, your own Sick Days, and your own Vacation Days. It doesn't rely on seniority, time on the job, and/or position within the company.
Of course, there's a Yin and Yang to everything. Being in charge of yourself is great - but can also be crippling! If you know how to manage your time and priorities - it's great! If you don't - you won't be doing it long.
Even though I couldn't talk a good portion of the time I was sick - I still made it down to my War Room to do what I was supposed to do. Where I needed to talk - I tried my hand at AI (Artificial Intelligence) and utilized a voiceover to read my scripts. And although it was extremely difficult on me some of the time - I made Social Media Posts up in advance and utilized Social Posting Software to drip the content out. Nobody heard me moaning and groaning, coughing up a lung, and blowing my nose like it was my job. I knew regardless of how I felt - the trains still needed to stay on time.
I mention all this to drive home a point. Seek out freedom! You may have to start off slow and build up to doing it full-time - but that's OK. Get your side hustle on and move from some time to part-time to full-time! You'll thank me!

One one of our previous podcasts entitled "Edification" - we spoke about how it's basically supplying moral uplifting (Kudos) to those you feel you've learned and grown from.
Today, we're going to cover something similar.
Random Acts Of Kindness.

Have you ever been to a business where there's a person that knows EVERYTHING? They're that person that has been there, done that, and has the t-shirt for virtually everything that's ever happened at the business. When those sort of people are sick, leave, and/or in the worst-case scenario die - they take ALL their knowledge, tips, and tricks WITH them! If you work for yourself - that's YOU!
It's ESSENTIAL that you have a backup via documentation to let potential replacements know how and what you do - as well as have the info in place for yourself so that you don't miss needed steps. (Especially when you're doing something you haven't done in a while!).

Do You Give Edification?
YES, I talk a lot about YOU on this podcast. But, what I mean by YOU is NOT promoting a company, product, and/or service ahead of you. Tell people what YOU bring to the table to market and support your company, product, and/or service.
Part of what makes YOU great are the people that you learn and grow from.
When you edify, you supply moral uplifting - or if we're keeping it super simple, kudos.

The autonomy and freedom of being your own boss are awesome - but on some portions of it, you may still be trading time for money. And even though you may be awesome at time management - you're still only one person and only have so many hours in the day.
That's where systems and automation come in!
And if you really want to diversify things - add in Affiliate and Network Marketing. That's where you can take the advice of leaders such as John D. Rockefeller -

Are you in any situations where it's time to cut bait and go?
In 1519, Captain Hernán Cortés allegedly told his crew to burn the ships they'd traveled in. So the phrase "Burn The Boats (Ships)" has come to mean taking away the option of retreat - and going forward against all odds. Although it's unlikely you're in a battle - you could very well be in a situation where it's time to leave something and not look back.

As marketers - both on and offline - there are LOT (You could even say, "TOO MANY!") of distractions! If you're fortunate to work at home - those distractions can multiply. The point is - you HAVE to keep your eye on the target. Otherwise, you'll fall into Shiny Object Syndrome.
Put your blinders on and remain bulletproof!

Benjamin Frankin said, “If you fail to plan, you are planning to fail!”

Do you think ahead about what you're doing? I refer to it as playing Chess, NOT Checkers.
Thinking ahead is like planning. And you know what Benjamin Franklin said, "Failing to plan is planning to fail." All too often - we "Ready FIRE Aim" as opposed to "Ready AIM Fire" - and that gets us in trouble.
Take a beat. As a matter of fact, take several beats - THEN act.

When it comes to money - you DEFINITELY don't want all your eggs in one basket. But that's not the kind of diversification we're talking about.
The diversification, in THIS case, is making sure you don't depend on the "Rented Space" of Social Media Platforms.
I use an all-in-one digital storefront to combat the perils of "Rented Space". You can visit http://www.GotPodia.com to get a free trial of the system I use. Full disclosure - that link is an Affiliate Link and should you choose to buy from it, I will benefit.

Hopefully - coming off of the Labor Day Weekend - you don't find yourself getting back to the "grind". I used to feel that way. My "grind" was going into "the joint". I called it that because it felt as if I was going into jail each day.
And that's why as with much of the info I've shared - you NEED to do whatever you can to hustle Some-Time to Part-Time to Full-Time - and make your dreams come true!
We also covered why it's important to learn from masterminds and model people that have already experienced what it is you want. Doing that will allow you to avoid having to learn from mistakes.

Piggybacking off of our previous episode - we talk about the freedom and autonomy (free from external control or influence; independence) of working for yourself.
You don't want to die "full" (With the info you SHOULD be sharing) - but instead "empty" (Sharing EVERYTHING you have inside).
Do whatever you can to hustle Some-Time to Part-Time to Full-Time - and make your dreams come true!

Are you experiencing freedom and autonomy (free from external control or influence; independence) in your current position? If not - make a CHANGE! By the way - I'm NOT talking about marching into your boss's office and quitting. Instead, I'm talking about gradually migrating from working for someone else to working for yourself. In other words - marketing YOURSELF first.
Doing that is what this podcast is going to weave itself around until the day we stop doing it.
Time is precious and cannot be replaced once used. Because of this - we want every minute of your time to be time well spent.
If that means gradually hustling from Some-Time to Part-Time to Full-Time - then do it! And once you've achieved that - our next goal is to have you automate and hire out as many tasks as possible. We want you to work smart - not hard!

Do you make YOU a priority in business and life in general? If the answer is no - then our episode today is for you!
YOU should be among your client base - and as a client, you should be given top-notch treatment.
In addition to how you treat yourself - you also need to check yourself (Before you wreck yourself. Sorry I couldn't resist!). You do that by knowing what needs to be done and doing it. Most of this can be accomplished via Time Blocking and scheduling.

Hey everybody, I want to thank you for taking the time to listen to this inaugural episode of Market YOU First!
The name of this podcast comes from two ideas.
One - you should put the Oxygen Mask that drops during a flight on yourself first, before attempting to help others.
And, two - you can't pour from an empty cup.
Now, both of these have one thing in common - and that's basically self-preservation. By taking care of yourself and being the best that you can be - you have several things happen. You're able to offer a superior product that nobody else in the world can - and your customers are going to attribute you as a Brandnomer.
A Brandnomer is where a brand name becomes synonymous with a type of product. Examples of this would be Uber, Jell-O, and Q-Tips. Those products are actually a car service, gelatin, and cotton swabs - but you'll rarely hear people call them that. Selling your authentic self and making that your product/service above all else will keep you in business no matter what it is you're attaching it to.
So that's the entire concept of the whole Market YOU First idea. I actually come up with that name almost two years ago. It's not a new concept. As I said, those two things - the not pouring from an empty cup and putting your own mask on if you're in an airplane when the Oxygen Masks drop are just a couple of things to illustrate the concept.
If you think about when you were a young person, you probably had a person that your parents (More than likely your Dad) called their car guy. And they would always go to that person no matter what. They weren't buying a car from the car - but that person. As a matter of fact, if they left and went to another place - there's a really good chance that your parents probably followed them. Or it might've been your mom with a hairdresser. She might have gone to the same salon for years, but when that hairdresser left, she left. And the examples could go on and on and on. There are so many products and services that are out there. You want to separate yourself from everyone else out there.
In your elevator/business card description of what you do - you should basically be able to tell people what it is that you do quite simply in 10 words or less. For instance, in my particular case - mine is I train people to sell themselves, not what they sell. Now, admittedly that comes in right at 10 words - but I still did it. Make it the essence of what you do.
I've seen so many people over the years do something like attach themselves to a specific product. And all of a sudden that product goes by the wayside or they don't sell it any longer - and they have to recreate themselves. The reason being - people associated them with the product or service, and not them as the product or service. We need to show people why they buy us first. Show people the customer care, esprit de corps, and overall brand ambassadorship you're going to provide.
Stand out and be the unique self that you are - everyone else is taken!
