Judge not so that you are not judged. These words from the Sermon on the Mount and Jesus’ Manifesto of the Kingdom of God are so famous that even non-Christians quote them. They are often used as a standard of judgment against Christians who hold a line of Biblical righteousness to contrast against the standards of this world. But that is not a correct interpretation of what these words mean. The Kingdom of God is not like the kingdoms of this world. Power and warfare are inescapable aspects of the kingdoms of this world. According to Jesus' teaching in the Sermon on the Mount however, the values of the Kingdom of God celebrate the peacemakers. That is why He said "blessed are the peacemakers."

Our story of the Days of David concludes in this final episode (part 13). This episode is called The Legacy of David. In the finale of our podcast series we look at the final events of David's life and some of the unfinished business that his son Solomon concluded. We also look at the final chapter or Bathsheba's story that is recorded in scripture. Then we go back and review 2 Samuel 21-24. These final chapters of the book of 2 Samuel form an epilogue of sorts. They do not fit into the narrative of the story of David in chronological order. Scholars believe they were added in after his death. But these are very important chapters that put a capstone on the story of David so we can understand who he was and why he was so important to the history of Israel but especially to the history of anyone who seeks after the heart of God!

The sins of David need little introduction. His adultery with Bathsheba and his murder of her husband Uriah are nearly as famous as his defeat of Goliath. This episode looks at how this critical event in the Days of David unfolded and how it forever changed the way the king operated. He was still the man after God's own heart. He gained forgiveness of his sins, but David was never the same after this event.
One key area where these changes in David played out was in how he handled his children. Never the best of fathers, now David begins to reap the whirlwind in his latter years, moving from one crisis to the next with his degenerate kids.

Episode 4 in our Grace - The Energy of God podcast series looks at the two different energies operating today. There is the energy of darkness and the energy of God. In part 3 of our series, Grace - The Energy of God, we look at how Christ broke everything open for us. It was Christ who opened up the access for us to approach the core of God's throne of grace and receive grace for our needs. The achievements of Christ at the cross and the resurrection were about far more than getting us to heaven.
When Christ completed His work at the cross and the resurrection, He ushered in a new age of grace. This episode considers what grace looked like in the Old Testament. We also look at how believers in the early church perceived grace.

17-19 This is my instruction, then, which I give you from God. Do not live any longer as the Gentiles live. For they live blindfold in a world of illusion, and cut off from the life of God through ignorance and insensitiveness. They have stifled their consciences and then surrendered themselves to sensuality, practising any form of impurity which lust can suggest.
20-24 But you have learned nothing like that from Christ, if you have really heard his voice and understood the truth that he has taught you. No, what you learned was to fling off the dirty clothes of the old way of living, which were rotted through and through with lust’s illusions, and, with yourselves mentally and spiritually re-made, to put on the clean fresh clothes of the new life which was made by God’s design for righteousness and the holiness which is no illusion.

Jason Boke had no lack of images for manhood in his life. A thirst for adventure and personal ambition soon met with the unexpected events of life. Jason found the path to manhood was not where he thought it was.
What does it mean to be a man? When did you become a man? In this corrupt generation, what is a boy to do?
In many cultures, they mark manhood by unique rites of passage. The ancient Spartans called upon a boy to become a soldier. If he enlisted, he became a man. Deep in the Amazon jungle, the Salere-Mawe triberequires a boy to stick his in a glove covered with bullet ants. If he can do it and survive, he becomes a man. The Masai in Kenya holds an elaborate series of processes in which the older men of the tribe bring the younger into manhood.
What do we do in our culture? That depends on who you ask. Some boys are taught manhood comes with their first beer, others with their first conquest of a woman. Then some believe enlisting in the military, having your first child, or winning a sports competition is the pathway to manhood.
Included among our poor definitions of manhood are poor processes for boys to follow to become a man. As a result, many men maintain a level of wandering and frustration well into their advanced years as they continue to look for the passage and the blessing to manhood.
My friend Mike Schultz and I developed this podcast series, A Record of Manhood, to ask the question, “When did you become a man?” Interviewing six good men from various backgrounds, we looked at their stories to consider what it means to be a man and when they knew they had become men.

JB Shreve is joined by Liv, Damien, and James in this podcast episode that continues our journey through the Gospel of John. Chapter 7 can come across a little confusing to readers on first glance. We share a tip for peaking through the somewhat chaotic scenes to what is really going on and what is really important.
We also look at an important verse and saying of Jesus regarding judging.
Things are heating up in chapter 6 of the Gospel of John. Jesus performs several significant miracles including walking on water and feeding the 5,000 but that does not mean all is well. Jesus sees the wrong motives of many of the people who Him. He begins to challenge them. In fact, this chapter contains one of the weirdest statements of Jesus documented in any of the gospels.
In chapter 5 of the Gospel of John, we found some differences of perspective among us as we studied through. JB and Casie Shreve are joined by James, Damien, and Liv as we continue our study through the Gospel of John.
This chapter includes the healing of the lame man at the pool of Bethesda and Jesus’s discussion on life and judgment and the four witnesses that attest to who he is.
Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” John 4:23-24 (NIV)**

In this podcast devotional, JB and Casie Shreve continue the look at the heart that we have been focusing on here at the website. The heart is complex, it is deep, it is unique to each of us, and it is central to our personal walk with God. As human beings, life teaches us to hide and hold back our hearts but that was not the direction that Jesus gave to us. Jesus was drawn toward little children because they had not yet learned to hide their hearts from the truth.
With a few verses and a lot of scripture JB and Casie look at the complexities of the human heart in this podcast episode and how key it is to learn to open our hearts to God.

A primary place where we build internal strength is in the arena of our mind. Where are do our thinking patterns go? What authority do distractions have in our life? What mental habits have developed in our lives that are promoting earth-based thinking rather than faith-based thinking?
