Air Filtration has been put forward as one of the technologies that can be used to support a reduction in the spread of viruses but also to assist with the air quality challenges that cause health issues in many parts of the world.

In this Podcast with Dr. Simon Harkis, who works for global testing specialists SGS IBR Laboratories, we explore the important subject of air filtration unit testing, with the goal of trying to establish how well they work and why testing is important.

Our fascinating discussion includes:

  • How this work is carried out and some of the important considerations that need to be made.
  • The size of particles that can be measured in a test
  • The considerations surrounding where best to place an Air Filtration machine within a room
  • Indoor air quality monitoring considerations

Ensuring accuracy and ethical sales & marketing practices in air filtration

Whilst the challenges of poor indoor air quality have caused health issues for the world for the last several decades, the Covid-19 pandemic has further heightened the interest in the purchase of Air Filtration devices across the world, including here in the UK.

As with the sale of any product or service, it is important that manufacturers and sales companies show respect for purchasing consumers and the advertising standards and legislation that prevails in the country of distribution, being sure to provide accurate references and evidence to support any claims surrounding the purported benefits of the product.

The Air Purification Trade Association (APTA) is committed to ensuring that subscribing members honour a code of business conduct that respects the legislation and support the distribution of accurate air purification literacy into the business and consumer world.

In support of this objective, APTA was delighted to host an interview with the UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA). During the Podcast, ASAexplained how the legislation in the UK works and who walked through a few useful examples of what happens when an organisation is found in breach of the prevailing adverting standards and a ruling is made. This can include a high profile listing on the ASA website.
