Lovers and Friends, Happy New Year! Our first episode of the year is very close to my heart because it features my first therapist in the world, Alaina Lopez, a Licensed Professional Counselor, Certified Anger Resolution Therapist and Registered Play Therapist in Houston, Texas.  On this episode, she shared information about her background as a Port Arthur, Texas native raised by her mom and grandmother.  She highlights the power of community, that has spanned from her childhood years growing up to her present life now as Founder of  Heart 2 Heart Counseling Services.  Alaina also shared gems about when to take your child to a therapist and gave us a glimpse into what play therapy is like for children.  She also shared how her counseling practice has expanded to include wellness retreats (next retreat in Ocho Rios, Jamaica June 2023) and explains how these retreats are so needed for self-reflections, for healing and for community.  We giggled a lot during the episode but points were made. Serious points! Tap in to listen and enjoy!

We don't get to determine how long we live but we do get to determine how deep we live.

This quote, spoken by Tosin Durotoye and shared with me by Patrenia Werts Onuoha perfectly encapsulates this episode. Starting with a life update on Stella's 3 Part Birthday celebration, this episode is also a mini-primer on self love and truly celebrating your life. We share a synopsis of "Caring Enough to Confront" by David Augsburger, a book that shares how to understand and express your deepest feelings toward others. In the episode I said I thought it was published in the 90s but was actually first published in 1973. The knowledge still applies. We also have a conversation with Patrenia Werts Onuoha. She shares how her personal life, professional experiences and all the Nollywood movies she has watched : ) have combined to make her into the magnetic, charismatic, empathetic Self Actualization Coach that she is today. Our conversation is relaxed and comfortable yet loaded with gems on how to see who you really are, how to become more grounded and how to engage your core. She shares tools on resilience and encourages us all to master our mind and not limit ourselves. I am fully a believer in all things Patrenia Speaks and I am sure that by the time you listen to this episode, you will be as well. Happy Listening.

This compelling conversation with Adaeze Oputa-Anu is such a treat.  We begin by acknowledging the second anniversary of the #EndSARS protest where over 40 protesters lost their lives at the Lekki Toll Gate. Adaeze then shared an overview of her early life in Lagos which was filled with love but also filled with pressure from the weight of public perception. Our conversation then flowed towards the safe space HBCUs provide and we briefly discussed The Woman King movie. No spoilers so no worries. Adaeze shared her challenges balancing motherhood and marriage and how she is best able to make it all make sense. We also took a deep dive into some of Adaeze's passion projects- Empowered Black Girl and Thrive for Blacks. Overall, it was a such a convivial discussion and I learned a lot from our exchange and hopefully you will as well. Adaeze is clearly a boss-able to hold it down at home, blaze trails professionally and make a positive impact with everything else in between. A queen. We hail.

Welcome to the Love, Stella Podcast! Our first episode introduces Stella, a public health communicator by day and a mother, wife and entrepreneur by night.  This episode also takes a brief look at identity and introduces the concept of self love.  Through prompts from "Radical Self Love" by Gala Darling, Stella draws on notes from her own life and challenges listeners to lean into the concept of radical self love and self discovery, one exercise at a time.  "It takes courage to endure the sharp pains of self discovery rather than choose to take the dull  pain of unconsciousness that will last the rest of our lives."- Marianne Williamson.
