John 4:46-54 / Upon Jesus’ return to Cana, a man seeks him in desperation. He has heard that Jesus is capable of great miracles and in his hour of need decides to leave his dying son’s bedside to find Jesus and ask for his mercy. When Jesus meets him, he challenges the motivations of his request. The result of their interaction is a story of God’s grace and how faith grows when we choose to rely on the promises of Christ.
John 4:31-45 / Jesus knew his mission. Christ had devoted his faith, his time and his energy into doing exactly what the Father asked - and it was deeply satisfying to him. The twelve disciples on the other hand, they were just getting started; they were easily distracted and often misunderstood the goals of their work. In this sermon, we listen as Christ helps correct their temporal thinking and gives them eyes to see just how fulfilling it can be to labor in the fields of the Lord.
John 4:1-30 / Jesus had an appointment to get to; regardless of the pressure from his friends, the inconvenience of his journey and the cultural lines he had to cross, Jesus had a woman he needed to meet. When he arrived he delivered a message that would change everything about her life and impact everyone she knew.
Today, we will dive into the Bible to learn about God’s heart for the nations and the stranger, and how that should impact our perspective towards them.
John 3:22-36 / A group of religious Jews and a handful of John the Baptist’s disciples came to him to inquire about his ministry in relation to Jesus. They sought to inquire about the possibility of contention between John and Jesus. John graciously instructs them on the doctrine of salvation through Christ, but also what it means to be humble in ministry.
John 3:8-21 / A Pharisee named Nicodemus seeks Jesus to inquire about spiritual matters and Jesus provides him with four illustrations to help him understand the salvation that he brings. John chapter 3 helps us to fully understand the gravity of the gospel message and what it means for our souls.
John 3:1-7 / A Pharisee named Nicodemus seeks to ask Jesus questions about his identity and his views on spiritual matters, but when he arrives Jesus begins answering all the questions Nicodemus never knew to ask. In this study, we look at Christ’s call to “be born again” and discuss what this means in our story and what it means for our lives.
John 2:13-25 / Are you struggling with making Christianity about you? Has worship and ministry grown stale? After the wedding in Cana, Jesus and his disciples go to Jerusalem to celebrate the passover. When Jesus arrives, he finds something seriously wrong with the way in which people are approaching God in worship. Jesus responds in a way that is befitting the offense, a reaction that precisely deals with the false religion, cheap worship and empty symbols he finds in the temple of God.
1 Samuel 22:1-2In order to live as mighty men, we must go from debtors in sin to debtors of the gospel message.
John 2:12 / Jesus and his disciples are invited to a marriage feast in Cana of Galilee, but when the wedding party runs out of wine, Jesus’s mother requests that he do something miraculous. In the first public miracle of Jesus we learn about faith, expectation and what it means to always be ready to obey Christ.
John 1:43-50 / Jesus is beginning to gather disciples to follow him and learn from him. Philip of Bethsaida begins following Jesus and in his zeal goes to find his friend Nathanael to share that he had found the Messiah, but Nathanael is resistant. Like many of our friends and family, Nathanael holds a bias that becomes an impediment to the gospel. In this sermon we learn how to reach those who seem to be hindered in their view of Jesus.
John 1:29-42 / As we continue in our story, John the Baptist reveals Messiah and points his disciples to Jesus. As those disciples spend time with Jesus, it produces a desire to invite others to experience the goodness of Christ as well. This portion of the Gospel of John provides us with incredible insight into what it means to have a personal relationship with Christ and to understand ministry the way God intended.
John 1:14-28 / Do you know who you are and what you have been made for? Many Christians don’t. The purpose of our Christian faith is often clouded by our culture, pragmatism, elitism, politics, entertainment and other distractions that only serve to make us tepid and ineffectual. In this sermon, John the Baptist serves as an example of what it means to know what we’ve made for and unabashedly embrace our cause.
John 1:1-13 / Of the four gospels, John most clearly magnifies that divine attributes of Jesus. The opening of this gospel declares Jesus as God, but more than that, it defines what that means in terms of humanities relationship to him. Join us as we begin this wonderful journey through the Gospel of John.

Ephesians 6:18-24 /In our last sermon on Finding Our Identity, Paul closes his letter to Ephesus by calling them to prayer. In this study we look at the discipline of prayer and discuss it as a necessity of spiritual warfare. We also look at the value and importance of a ministry that delegates in order to meet the needs of the church.
Ephesians 6:16-17 / Are we preparing for evil days, trials and difficulty by actively putting on the whole armor of God? In the last sermon we looked at the first three elements in the divine armor of God, this week we look at three more. Join us as we consider what it means to find our identity as a soldier engaged in a spiritual warfare.
Ephesians 6:14-15 / Each of us face “evil days” in our lives, moments where we are frustrated with our circumstances, afraid and tempted to despair. As Christians, do we know how to remain resolved and emotionally strong in those seasons of life? Do we acknowledge the nature of our enemy’s warfare? Are we actively preparing by putting on the whole armor of God?
Ephesians 6:11-13 / We have an enemy who actively seeks our deception, distraction and destruction. He hates us with a passion and his influence and power is greater and more extensive than we can imagine. Do we know who he is? Do we know how to prepare ? Are we battle ready?
Ephesians 6:10 / We have learned so much from Ephesians about our identity, but as we reach the closing admonition we learn a hard truth - that we must be fearless in the face of difficulty. Hard ship is common to all people, but the way in which Christians endure life’s challenges should be unique. Today we consider, what does it mean to fight life’s battles in the courage of Christ?
2 Corinthins 10:3-6Today we will look at 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 which has the keys to engaging effectively in spiritual warfare through prayer.
Ephesians 6:5-9 / Work is hard and relationships at work can be even harder. From time to time, we all struggle with having the right heart attitude in our work place. In our passage today, we learn that God is concerned with whether or not we see our work the same way he does - as an opportunity to reflect our true identity.
Ephesians 6:1-4 / Our parents have given us life and they have contributed so much to who we are as people; sometimes for good and sometimes for bad. But because we have a Heavenly Father who gives us a spiritual identity, we have the capacity to obey and honor our parents regardless of how wonderful or tenuous our relationship has been. In this sermon, we discuss what it looks like as adults to build relationships with our parents of love, honor and obedience. We also consider fatherhood, and how important it is to approach our children the way God the Father approaches us.
Ephesians 5:31-33 / In the previous sermon we discussed the relationship between identity, values and marriage readiness. This week we will take more time to focus on the relationship between our idenity and how we understand singleness. We also provide a brief guide for dating that is intended to help us change our perspectives and make the prospect of dating less scary and more biblical.
Ephesians 5:17-21 / Many young people desire marriage, but in terms of your values and identity, are you ready? Are you establishing an identity now that will prepare you for the partnership and unity of marriage? How does marriage picture our identity in Christ?
Ephesians 5:17-21 / As we continue in Ephesians 5 we discuss how your identity is shaped by simply hearing God tell you what is important to him. Our confidence and growth is rooted deeply in whether or not we learn to value what God tells us to value.

Ephesians 5:15-21 / Paul has spent this entire chapter drawing contrasts between the old and new man, children of light versus those who live in disobedience. But in these verses he goes further, describing what it looks like to find the motivation to truly follow Christ and practically walk in the light.
Ephesians 5:8-14 / Jesus Christ has made us “children of light”, meaning his gift of salvation has delivered us from the darkness of sin and hell and brought us into the light of forgiveness and the kingdom of God. But many of us are drawn back into the dark by old friends and old habits; too many of us struggle to live our Christian lives “in the light”. In this sermon we learn to live as children of light and how to overcome when the darkness of old sin comes creeping back.
Ephesians 5:1-7 / Do you love God’s people? Do you love ministry? Do you love going to church to worship? Many Christians struggle to love the things that God loves. Why? Because they struggle to walk in his ways. In this sermon we discuss what it means to walk as dear children rather than children that are deceived by their emotions and the vain promises of the world.
Ephesians 4:29-32 / Today we look at corrupt communication and how destructive it can be when the Spirit of God doesn’t have control over our words. In Ephesians 4, we learn that God has enabled us to put on the new man, and learn to speak words that edify rather than tear down. We also discover that despite our tendency to walk in sin, God has committed himself to us by the sealing of the Holy Spirit.
Ephesians 4:27-28 /Knowing who we are also means knowing who we aren’t. In Ephesians 4, we are instructed to put away the old and childish ways of our past and to put on the new man, the character and behavior of a victorious child of God. In this sermon, we look at the role the devil plays in tempting our old man and then we consider what it means to embrace our identity as a laborer and provider.
Ephesians 4:25-26 / For Christians, we have a past that is constantly trying to reassert itself within our new life; an old man that is threatening our new identity. This week we discuss the old man traits of lying and wrathful responses. We look at what scripture says about controlling our emotions and grounding our minds and speech in truth.
Inspirationally, in Proverbs 16:6, Solomon keeps us in remembrance of how we were eternally cleansed of sin, and wisdom on how to grow in personal sanctification
2 Corinthians 8:1-5The churches of Macedonia gave of themselves and then they gave BEYOND their power. We explore how to live in a strength beyond your own.
Ephesians 4:17-24 / For the Christian, patterns of sin have a way of eroding our identity in Christ and leaves us feeling hopeless. Today, we discuss how believers fall back into sin and we learn what it looks like to avoid going back to our old identity in the flesh.

Ephesians 4:13-16 / Many people don’t have a high estimation of the church; perhaps that is because most institutional church seems to have forgotten its divine purpose or perhaps it has to do with societies collective selfishness. But when a church invests in a way that is biblical, it’s a remarkable thing. The church has the ability to affect us deeply and change the way we see ourself and our purpose. In this sermon we ask, what benefit does the church bring to my life and what does it look like to involve myself in it’s work?
In Exodus 3, we learn about Moses’ encounter with God and draw a parallel to how God’s calling works in a believer’s life.
Ephesians 4:7-12 / Christ gave his life to deliver captivity captive, to provide us with salvation, and to dispense gifts to each of us that we might have value in the mission ahead of us. While many of us appreciate our salvation, very few of us appreciate the value of our gifting. What does it look like to intentionally cultivate our gifts and respect the gifting of others?

As we stand at a pivotal point in the book of Ephesians, this morning we pause to reflect on our identity in Christ. If we're going to do what God has called us to, we need to be who God has called us to be. Do we really see ourselves in light of God's Confounding Grace?
Ephesians 3:14-21 / We know that God has called us and qualified us for the work of his mission, but we often get caught in the trap of relying on our flesh to ensure that life and ministry unfold the way we imagine it should. But why doesn’t it work? Why do we feel deflated? Where is the power? Where is the virtue? In this sermon we learn that through God and his love, he has provided us everything we need.
Ephesians 3:8-13 / The world teaches us to summarize our personal identity based on pedigree, education, experience and acquired skill. But what Christ teaches us is that our qualifications for the ministry are not measured by the world’s standards. In this sermon, we learn that God has not only called us, but also qualified us for the mission - - we simply have to commit in faith to obey.
Ephesians 3:1-7 / When discussing identity, it’s important to consider the role that confidence plays in our understanding of self. The confidence that the Christian needs is not a self-confidence, but assurance in what God has called us to, a certainty in his purpose for our lives. In this sermon, we consider what it truly means to find confidence in who he has made us to be.
Joshua 1:1-9 / In Joshua 1:1-9, the Lord encouraged Joshua as he prepared to lead the nation of Israel to conquer and inherit the Promised Land. This passage teaches us how to respond in strength and courage when God calls us to take big steps in our walk of faith.

Ephesians 2:11-22 / In our series “Finding Our Identity”, we have been exploring just how difficult it is to know who we are and what our purpose in life is. Oftentimes we look to our past to help us uncover who we truly are. In Ephesians 2, God does the same thing; he points us back to who we were before he found us and graciously declare who he has made us to be. Christ has become our hope, and because of that, our identity has been forever changed.
Ephesians 2:9-10 / So many of us have been taught to understand our identity in terms of what we “do”: our vocation, our passion projects, our responsibilities. But are the things we do meant to define us? In what way? In this sermon on Ephesians 2:8-10 we consider the doctrine of our salvation and the work of Christ in order to better understand who we are.

2 Timothy 1:1-7When we take a look at the world around us, we can see so much brokenness and cause for fear in our own lives. We observe in 2 Timothy 1:1-7, 7 keys to persevering in our faith in the midst of a broken world.

1 Corinthians 16:13-24 / As we concluded the first letter to the church in Corinth, we are charged to take all that we have learned and live in light of truth. Paul asks the church to function in maturity, to face their fears, to welcome the burden of ministry and celebrate those who have loved them and served them. He asks them, after all have you learned, “are you ready to make the investment?”
1 Corinthians 16:5-12 / All human relationships have limitations; constraints of time, energy and priority. Sometimes in ministry, we have unfair expectations of one another that put unnecessary strain on our love. In today’s sermon, Paul explains to the church in Corinth, that while he desires to ministry to them, they must temper their expectations and be patient towards him and the other leaders. Today’s sermon helps us consider, do I respect the natural limitations of my ministry relationships?
1 Corinthians 16:1-4 / In 1 Corinthians chapter 15, Paul proves the resurrection and inspires us to live in light of that hope. As we begin chapter 16, it becomes clear that living in the power of the resurrection includes having proper convictions and obeying the simple instructions of God. This week Paul teaches us about sacrificial giving: why it’s important and why it is a reflection of our faith.

Paul sets out to prove to them that we serve a resurrected Savior, that his gospel has the power to save and change lives and that he has promised us a future resurrection in him. In verses 20-28 we ask ourselves, “does the imminent return of Jesus fill me with hope or fear?”.
1 Corinthians 15:12-19 / The church in Corinth had allowed themselves to fall into heretical beliefs and many of the members of the church were convinced that there was no resurrection for the dead. Paul sets out to prove to them that we serve a resurrected Savior, that his gospel has the power to save and change lives and that he has promised us a future resurrection in him. In verses 12-19 we ask ourselves, “is the knowledge of the resurrection actively strengthening my life?”.

In Nehemiah 9:1-19 we find Nehemiah having a solemn assembly to reconcile the children of Israel back to the Lord, As he walks through Israel’s history, we learn key elements of remembrance and repentance to apply to our daily walk with Jesus.
1 Corinthians 12:27-13:3 Over the last few studies, we have learned how God has uniquely gifted every believer and how he uses that gifting in unison with our local church to glorify his name. In this sermon we talk about the special ingredient that gives our gifting purpose - charity. With it, our ministry will be mature - without it, everything becomes vain.
2 Peter 1 gives us insight on sanctification, and how we can move forward adding to our faith.
1 Corinthians 12:12-26The Apostle Paul has been addressing the church in Corinth about “spiritual gifts” - the unique traits God has given to each believer so that they might have an impact on His kingdom. As chapter twelve continues, Paul shares how one’s spiritual gifting should serve into the missional objectives of the local church. We are reminded that each Christian is only as useful as as they are integrated into the body of Christ.

In this sermon we learn how a Christian can discern the differences between false spiritualism and authentic Spirit-led worship. What causes these seasons? In this study, we find Paul rebuking the church in Corinth for their selfish behavior within their worship services and calls them to reconsider the wonder of worship. We learn to examine ourselves and return to our first love.
As we close out Mission Focus 2023, what are some things we need to consider as individuals and as a ministry? Are we ready for what is ahead of us?
1 Corinthians 11:1-16We live in a world exceptionally confused by issues of gender. In chapter 11 we discuss what it means to properly reflect God’s unique roles and structures for men and women. In this sermon we ask ourselves, do I know where I fit in God’s order? Do I know how to take culture into consideration as I seek to submit to God’s order?

In chapter 10 we take a sober look at the connection between view of God and our sin. Paul uses the Nation of Israel and the exodus from Egypt as a warning to the Corinthians of how sin is always waiting for us. In this sermon we ask the question, has selfish thinking made me vulnerable to sin?
By way of the disciple Andrew's example, we see some key characteristics about his personality and actions that could enable any follower of a Jesus Christ to become more effective in their ministry today.

In chapter 9 we are discussing what it means to prefer the weak over ourselves, even in the way we share the gospel. Paul teaches us how to have a disciplined gospel, meaning a character and zeal shaped by our desire to see souls saved. In our previous sermon, Paul was discussing principles associated with why the church should support the elders that invest in their lives. Paul builds on those thoughts this week as we consider what whether or not our motives have the potential to taint the potency of the gospel. Have we been doing gospel ministry ‘our way’?

What does it mean to make provision for the leaders in your life? Do my own personal desires cloud by ability to honor my authorities? Would I prefer to protect my self-interests over the risks of the mission? There is a lot to consider as Paul addresses how the gospel is what sustains him, even when those he serves fail to support with him.

Paul continues to address tough questions that the Corinthian church had, this one, “is it wrong to eat meat that has been offered to false idols?”. Though this question is steeped in cultural history, it is very relevant to us today. Our question is “do we have the will to resist our desires for the sake of others?”

As Christians we have been saved from our sin: past, present, future. The church in Corinth was struggling to go back to their old sins and Paul tells them - “feel free”. But he begins to address the issue of their identity, perspective and motives. What motivates you to follow Christ over your sin?

In Jeremiah 2, we see the Lord charging Israel for two great evils. As the Church, we take a look what keeps us from the trap of forsaking the Lord and from going the way of idols.

The church in Corinth has some unresolved conflict among their members and rather than dealing with it, chose to go before Roman law to seek mediation. Paul has a problem with this and we should too. God has given us everything we need to seek and find resolution in moments of disagreement or frustration with those in the family of God.

In the family of God there are sometimes situations that require difficult and decisive decision-making. The church in Corinth had one of these situations; a member was involved in egregious sin that was harmful to them, harmful to the testimony of the church and harmful to the integrity of the assembly. What must be done when someone refuses to do what is right?

Paul had some serious issues he needed to address in Corinth, but how could he challenge the church to follow Christ if they were unwilling to follow him? In this part of our study on biblical leadership, we learn that leadership that loves is a leadership that has permission to correct and challenge. Are we willing to love and correct? Are we willing to receive that same kind of leadership in our own lives?
James 1:22-25
The book of James focuses on communicating that our lives should look different after placing our faith in Jesus Christ. In Chapter 1, the emphasis is placed on good works and deeds being a necessary byproduct of our faith, of which we are urged to be doers and not hearers only.

As Paul is led by Roman authorities into the courtyard for questioning, he is followed by a mass of Jewish people. He requests an opportunity to speak and rather than defending himself, he instead defends the gospel. He doesn’t make a doctrinal argument, he appeals to them with his testimony. How can we learn to unapologetically share our story of our faith?

What we see in this leg of Paul’s journey is one of the hardest and most complicated aspects of doing ministry, making friends then having to say farewell to those we love, those we have given our lives to. We learn in this part of his missionary journey the value of old friends and new friends alike. We will learn some principles to help us see these relationships, with all their emotional complexity, from God’s point of view.

In Acts 18, in the midst of a turbulent missionary journey to Corinth, Jesus comes to Paul in a night vision. Jesus words to Paul in this passage awake us to the promises God gives to those who preach the gospel.

We also see Paul face rejection from the Jews. We learn a perspective on rejection that is specific to evangelical ministry - how not to be discouraged and trust the Lord for work we can’t see or effect.

What he discovers is that God is a gracious comfort at our loneliest points in life and ministry.

In Acts 17 Paul has discovered the utter lostness of the city of Athens, a city wholly given to idolatry. Paul does the only thing he knows to do when he makes such a discovery - preach. This week in our study we will consider what it looks like to preach to the city that we minister to. We will learn how Paul adapts to his changing audiences, how he doesn’t compromise his message for the sake of relevancy and how he makes the terms of the gospel very clear.
Deuteronomy 3
Through this intermission of Acts 17, God gave me this passage to re envision me for the battle at hand. To turn the world upside down, we must know our identity, and we must acknowledge the battle at hand.
Acts 17:13-17
In Acts 17 Paul is whisked away from Berea to Athens where he waits for the rest of his friends to join him. Here Paul has a chance to see one of the most wondrous cities in the world - a cultural, religious and academic epicenter. But as Paul sits and takes in this great city, he isn’t filled with wonder but concern for their lostness and idolatry. Are you stirred for your city? What does your conviction compel you to do?
Acts 17:10-12
In our story, Paul and the missions team journey to Berea, a town just west of Thessalonica. Here they meet a group of Bereans who listen to their gospel message but rather than accepting it outright, take the time to study God’s word to discern whether or not the message was true. The Berean’s are an example to us of how to become discerning in a world of mis-information and lies.

God will give you the desire of your heart. This is the key concept in todays message, and the reality is that it is a very scary concept. What happens when the desire of our heart is not in line with what God desires? From Numbers 11 we will see God giving his people the desire of their heart, even though it is not what God wanted for them, and the consequence that comes with it.

Paul, Silas and the team leave Philippi to go preach the gospel in Thessalonica. After they preached, a group of frustrated antagonists make a very unique claim against them, “These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also”.
Part two of this message focuses on the need for the church, it takes team a collection of courageous believers to turn the world upside down.

Paul & Silas have prayed and praised in their hour of need and now the doors have been opened. The next question is what to do? Do they take the way of escape or do they enter the open door, a spiritual opportunity to share the gospel with a man who is desperately in need of salvation. Do we put greater focus on negotiating the difficulties of life than on ministering the gospel?t an unbreakable, unshakeable believer is a person yielded to the joy and discipline of prayer and worship.
This week Temple Worship led us through a season of prayer and praise. We used the Tabernacle prayer template as a springboard to glorify and meet with God.
Acts 16:22-26
Last week we found that in order to have an unshakeable faith that it will require us to accept persecution as a fact and believe the promises of God (Mat 5:11,12). This week we find Paul and Silas beaten and bloody in a prison cell…the average person would be at their breaking point but these men choose to worship. We learn this week that an unbreakable, unshakeable believer is a person yielded to the joy and discipline of prayer and worship.
Judges 1
In this sermon, Eric uses the book of Judges to teach that compromise will always cost you something. Spiritual compromise is the willful decision of a believer to allow sin to remain. Is there sin that you’re allowing to thrive in your life? You must trust God to kill it or it will cost you everything.
1 Corinthians 10
In this message, Uriah unpacks the warnings Paul gives to us in 1 Corinthians 10, while also using Deuteronomy 5 as a reference. We must not be ignorant of the things we’ve learned, and we must draw near to the fire without fearing the burn.

They are described as causing dissension and dispute at the church in Antioch where Paul and Barnabas were. Today we ask the question, how should we handle dissension and dispute in our church?
As we close out chapter 14 of Acts, we are forced to confront the reality of what it means to be a missionary. When you consider your life, do you exist for the mission? Paul and Barnabas model 9 unique functions that ought to be indicative of every Christians life.

Here we see the church growing in numbers but also growing in strength. So often in churches today physical growth results in accommodations and compromises that eventually dilute the mission. On the heals of oppression from the religious rulers the apostles return to their friends where a prayer meeting ensues. The early believers teach us great things from their prayer lives. What value does corporate prayer have? What should the content of our our prayers be when the church comes together? What do we pray in times of ministry crisis and oppression?

There is so much fear and anxiety in our world today. So many Christians in our world are hindered in their witness because they are afraid of cultural rejection and retribution. For the Christian, fear is the fabrication of lies that call us to question the authority of God. With over 5,000 people following him around the Sea of Galilee, Jesus had a unique opportunity to begin establishing his kingdom with incredible support. Where political leaders have one goal— striving to hit critical mass, we find Jesus in John 6 saying something so grotesque and offensive that everyone stops following him with the exception of his twelve disciples. In this sermon, we will look at why Jesus didn’t attempt to clarify his metaphors or stop his followers from leaving?

Pastor Briscoe uses verses 14-17 to outline three defining characteristics of sonship: (1) A son must be led - choosing to listen and obey, (2) A son is loved - we must know that we are loved by God and this must lead us to devote our lives to Him, and (3) A son is lifted - we are heirs of God and this should direct our focus to eternal things rather than the things of this world.
