Ever since the begging of the start of this bull market and Bitcoin breaking its all time high there has been some interesting movements in the top 10 coins.
The top 2, Bitcoin and Ethereum remained unchallenged but from the 3rd to position and down there has been a lot of dynamics and changing positions.
Let’s take a look how things evolved trough a Bar Chart Race Animation for the top 10 coins by market cap.
The period that we will be looking here is Nov 19, 2020 to Jan 19, 2021. I have made this type of animation for a long term period 2015 – 2020 Top Cryptos Marketcap Bar Chart Race Animation.
Recent movement in marketcap Don’t pay too much attention to the top 2, but look how are the ones bellow changing in position.
At first Tether was 3rd, but then XRP claimed its long time 3rd position.
Then towards the end of 2020, as the news for Ripple troubles and its security status spread around, Ripple lost its 3rd position and went to 5th.
Litecoin became a no 4 crypto for a short period of time. Then a lot of dynamics in the 5 to 10 position and Polkadot emerged as the number 4 crypto by marketcap at this moment.
Tether remains third and Ripple fifth. Cardano is closing on Ripple now as well standing on the 6th position and trying to get to the no 5.
At the moment of writing this the coins from the 3rd to 10th position are in the range from 24B to 7B. From 5 to 10 are in the range from 14B to 7B. Having in mind the volatility of the crypto assets it looks like we can see further movements in positions in the 3 to 10 range. The top 2 remains firmly at the top, for now 😊.

Hive.blog and Peakd are the most used frontends on the Hive blockchain. These two have been in close race when it comes to the number of posts made from each of them. I have been playing around with line chart race animation and decided to make one for Hive.blog and Peakd.
We will be looking into the period since the Hive blockchain was created starting from the end of March 2020 till now.
Lets see how this one goes 😊.
When the blockchain was created Peakd has higher numbers of posts coming from it. Just above 1000 posts per day compared to around 800 coming from Hive.Blog. Then the pump in the price happened and the number of posts from both frontends increased to more than 1500 posts per day. Post form Hive.blog increased a bit more and hive.blog had the lead in that period.
In the next period the price went down and the posts as well. The numbers of posts from hive.blog went down faster than Peakd, as it gained the lead again.
In the following months after June as the price kept dropping so does the posts but the drop in the number of posts from hive.blog was bigger. When the HardFork happened at the start of October, the number of posts from hive.blog dropped again. Since then Peakd is continues to be the most used hive frontend with around 900 posts per day compared to the hive.blog averaged around 700 posts per day. Ecency and LeoFinance are the other frontends with a lot of posts coming from them but still not close to the numbers of these two.

I have played around with data animation already and made few of them. The last one with the top 10 cryptos marketcap..
These types of animation are bar chart race animation. I wanted to test out the line chart race animation. For this purpose we will be using the historical data for Bitcoin and Ethereum active wallets.
Ethereum has been around from 2015. Because of thise we will compare the two starting from 2015 till 2020.
The data for active wallets is taken from https://network-charts.coinmetrics.io/.
Bitcoin is still the dominant in terms of number of active wallets. Even though Ethereum has more wallets than Bitcoin, 124M ETH wallets, vs 57M BTC wallets at the moment. This shows that there are a lot of inactive ETH wallets.
Out of the total 57M BTC wallets there is around 1M active currently (1.7%). In the ETH case out of the 124M there is around 500k active (0.4%).
Ethereum was closest to Bitcoin in terms of active wallets in May 2018 when on few occasions the numbers almost matched. On May 27, 2018 there was 441k active BTC wallets and 403k active ETH wallets.
As we can see even with all the use cases for Ethereum and all the dApps build on it, the activity is still on the BTC side. At least in terms of active accounts. This just shows how powerful the BTC idea is even in its simplest form. Will be interesting how things go forwards and are we going to see a flippening at least in terms of active wallets 😊.

I did a similar animation for the top DeFi projects by marketcap more than a month ago. At that time the UNI token wasn’t launched yet.
Lets take a look how things stands now in the DeFi world.
The DeFi projects have been growing at a fats rate in the last few months. There has been ups and downs, but overall looks like the space is still growing. Not to mention Uniswap and the new DeFi coins listed there daily 😊.
Obviously, a lot of capital has entered this space.
Here we will take a look at the top DeFi projects and their evolution in the last 50 days.
The DeFi space has grown so fast that there are projects literally few weeks old with hundreds of millions marketcap. Uniswap and Sushi for example.
Here we will be looking into the following DeFi coins:
Note that these don’t represent the whole DeFi industry but are some of the top coins in the industry.
Having a look at the top DeFi coins and how there marketcap evolved over time can give us some nice perspective of the crypto industry.
The period that we will be looking here is August 23th till October 11, 2020.

The DeFi projects are absolutely on fire in the last few months. Almost 10B locked in DeFi protocols now and it keeps growing each month.
Not to mention Uniswap and the new DeFi coins listed there daily 😊.
Obviously, a lot of capital has entered this space.
Here we will take a look at the top DeFi projects and their evolution in the last 50 days.
I have made a few bar chart race animations before, and usually the period is few years or at least couple of months.
The DeFi space has grown so fast that there is projects literally few weeks old with hundreds of millions marketcap. Sushis for example is just a week around and its already more than a 100M marketcap.
Here we will be looking into the following DeFi coins:
Note that these don’t represent the whole DeFi industry but are some of the top coins in the industry.
Having a look at the top DeFi coins and how there marketcap evolved over time can give us some nice perspective of the crypto industry.
The period that we will be looking here is July 16th till September 3th 2020.
Some of the older projects like MakerDAO and Compound/LAND on the top at the start, but we have seen an explosive growth to some others, especially YFI that is in a close fight for the no.1 spot now. Also SNX is showing serious growth. Sushi just a few weeks old, has reached amazing marketcap in hundreds of millions.
