Have you ever encountered a situation that was out of your control? Have you ever felt inadequate to tackle the problems in front of you? Have you ever needed help?

Of course you have. We all have. The question isn’t ‘do you need help?’ The question is, ‘where do you look for help?’

This Sunday, we will continue our Summer in the Psalms series by taking a look at Psalm 121, read by Basecamp Volunteer Courtney Beach-Pattison. In it, we will discover that despite any circumstance, we can have confidence because we know the Lord is my Helper and my Keeper.

Have you ever messed up? Missed the mark? Done what the Bible calls sin?

The hard truth is: of course you have. We all have.

But here's the good news: you're not alone. Even David—whom God called "a man after His own heart"—fell into sin. The question then is, once we have, what do we do next?

This weekend, we'll dive into Psalm 51, first read by Student Ministry volunteer, Zane Chwirka. In the Psalm, David shows us what authentic repentance and spiritual renewal look like. No matter where you've been or what you've done, God's grace invites you to come back to Him.

Come on, admit it—we've all had moments when we've questioned our faith, questioned God, or wondered if He truly sees and cares. Those questions often surface when life takes an unexpected turn. The death of a loved one, a cancer diagnosis, conflict around the world, or suffering like the famine in Sudan can all lead us to ask the same question: "God, how can You allow this?"

This Sunday, we're going to explore Psalm 73, read in full by Jail Ministry volunteer, Mark Taylor. In many ways, it's the book of Job in miniature. The psalmist comes within inches of walking away from his faith as he wrestles with doubt, injustice, and the apparent prosperity of the wicked. Yet by the end of the psalm, he finds himself closer to God than ever before.

How did he move from doubt to confidence? From confusion to trust? That's the journey we'll take together this Sunday. And the hope of Psalm 73 is this: if God met the psalmist in the middle of his questions, He can meet us there too.

I hope you'll join us as we discover that even when life doesn't make sense, God is still good, still present, and still worthy of our trust.

When you look around the world, do you become fearful?

When you hear about conflict in the Middle East, political division here at home, or face your own personal struggles in a sin-soaked world, the natural tendency is to become afraid.

This Sunday, we'll be looking at Psalm 46, where the psalmist reminds us that when we trust in the Lord, no matter the headlines, the uncertainty, or the struggles of life, we can have hope.

We start with church member Jeff Sypersma reading Psalm 46. The psalm begins with these powerful words: "God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear..." No matter what you are going through or what you are facing in the world or in your personal life, God is your refuge. His presence is a place of safety—a shelter that sustains and protects us.

The psalm concludes with three simple but life-changing reminders:

  1. Be still.
  2. Know.
  3. He is God.

This week, Pastor Lydia Miller kicks off week two of our Summer in the Psalms series!

This week, we come to one of the most familiar passages in the Bible—known by both believers and nonbelievers alike. Read by congregation member Dan Dykstra, Psalm 23 is a psalm of comfort, confidence, and hope. As David reflected on his life, he wrote these timeless words about the Lord's faithful care, constant presence, and gracious provision. While they were deeply personal to David, they remain just as true for us today.

This Sunday, we’re kicking off a brand-new series, Summer in the Psalms. Over the next nine weeks, we’ll journey through one psalm each week as we discover the timeless truths found in these inspired songs, prayers, and poems.

For thousands of years, the Psalms have helped God’s people navigate every season of life. Whether you're walking through fear and uncertainty, celebrating with joy and praise, or finding yourself somewhere in between, the Psalms remind us that God is present in every emotion and every circumstance.

This Sunday, we’ll begin in Psalm 27:1–6, read by Mary Thompson, where we’ll discover how confidence in God leads to freedom from fear.

This Sunday we enter into our final week of our series on the Holy Spirit. Together we have been studying one of the most mysterious, and often misunderstood, members of the Trinity. In our last week together, we are going to study an aspect of the Holy Spirit that has caused confusion since the moment He landed on the scene: the power of the Holy Spirit.

One of Jesus’ final promises about the Holy Spirit was that we would receive power when He comes upon us. Why then don’t we always feel that power? Scripture gives us clear instructions on how we are to approach the power of the Spirit in our lives with both expectation and discernment. Through studying the words that the Apostle Paul had to two separate churches, we will learn better together how we lean into the power of the Holy Spirit with wisdom and hope.

What does it mean to be led by the Spirit?

We are currently in a series on the Holy Spirit. Last week, we asked the question, Who is the Holy Spirit? We learned that He is the third Person of the Trinity, that we receive Him at salvation, and that He has come to be God's presence with us in the world.

This week, I want to ask another important question: What does it mean to be led by the Spirit? Do you have to speak in tongues to be filled with the Spirit? How does the Holy Spirit guide us in our daily lives?

This week, Paul reminds us that being led by the Spirit has everything to do with living under His influence. Join us this Sunday as we explore what that means and how it shapes the way we live.

It often feels like whenever the Holy Spirit is mentioned, it comes with a mix of controversy and even fear. Our minds can quickly jump to extremes—faith healers, snake handlers, or unfamiliar languages we don’t understand. But the Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity, and both Jesus and the Apostle Paul speak extensively about His work and ministry.

This Sunday, we’re beginning a brand-new three-week series on the Holy Spirit. Over the next three weeks, we’ll explore:

  1. Who the Holy Spirit is
  2. How we are led by the Holy Spirit
  3. The power of the Holy Spirit

This week, we’ll start by introducing the Holy Spirit—who He is and what He does. We’ll look at His role within the Trinity, when and how believers receive the Spirit, and why Jesus said His departure and the Spirit’s coming are actually for our good.

Have you ever stopped to consider how long you will live? And in light of that, asked yourself, What do I want to do with the time I’ve been given?

That’s what we’ll be talking about this Sunday as we bring our series, The Rhythms of Rest, to a close.

Together, we’ll look at Psalm 90, written by one of God’s great leaders, Moses. In this psalm, Moses teaches us to count—to number our days and recognize just how brief life really is. But he doesn’t stop there. He challenges us to consider what truly counts, asking what we should give our lives to that will make an eternal difference in the limited time we have.

I want to encourage you to slow down this week and join us on Sunday as we learn to number our days and devote ourselves to what matters most.

Have any of you noticed that the pace of life seems to be accelerating? That it takes more and more just to keep all the plates spinning and all the balls in the air? Like life seems to move faster and faster every day?

This Sunday, as we continue in our series “Rhythms of Rest,” I want to suggest that the greatest need in your life may not be to move faster, but to do something radical…to slow down.

This week, I want to share four practical steps to help us slow down so we can focus on what matters most. Join us this Sunday as we learn from God’s Word how to put the brakes on the pace of life and give our attention to the things that truly matter most. We also have church elder, Jason Gehling, share his testimony on finding rest in a success-driven world.

As we meet on Memorial Day Weekend, summer unofficially begins! With it comes the hope of slowing down, relaxing, and finding some much-needed rest. But let’s be honest… does rest ever really come naturally during summer?

This week B.J. Van Kalsbeek continues with part two of our series, Rhythms of Rest. Together, we’ll explore how the very things we often pursue in order to find rest can actually leave us feeling more exhausted, stretched thin, and even disconnected in our relationships.

But we won’t stop there. We’ll also look at practical ways to guard against this so we can truly experience the kind of rest Jesus invites us into.

Join us for The Paradox of Priority.

This Sunday, Erich Erdman kicks off a brand-new series titled Rhythms of Rest. With summer right around the corner, many of us are looking forward to a slower pace of life — a season that often brings relaxation and rest. Maybe that means spending time on the golf course, fishing or boating with friends, or enjoying s’mores around a campfire as the sun sets.

However, like every year, summer will turn to fall, and fall will give way to winter - YIKES! All this to say, the rest and relaxation summer can offer is great - but like everything else this world has to offer, it’s fleeting.

In this series, we want to intentionally explore the true rest that Jesus Christ offers: how we can receive it, experience it, and live it out daily.

Have you ever looked at your family tree and thought, “Where did we go wrong?” Isn’t it true that every family tree holds things we are not proud of—things we wish we could change?

This Sunday, as we bring our series “Amazing Grace” to a close, Pastor Jeff Moes a look at our family trees through the lens of Jesus’ family tree. On this Mother’s Day Sunday, we’ll ask the question: How can we redeem our family tree and lead it in a positive, God-honoring direction for generations to come?

Enjoy a special Mother's Day testimony from Tori Albright, as she shares how her life was changed by the faith-led example of her adoptive mom, Sue.

Would you agree that the grace of God is amazing? Even if you don’t believe in Jesus or Christianity, wouldn’t you want this kind of grace to be true? The idea that sinful people can receive the unmerited, undeserved favor of God is remarkable.

This episode, Pastor Jeff Moes dives into that amazing grace again. We’ll be looking at our theme passage, John 1:14–17, and exploring how grace comes to us in spite of who we are. We’ll talk about the balance Jesus brings between grace and truth, and how His grace isn’t a one-time gift—it’s an endless supply.

We’ll also unpack the difference between grace and the law, and why so many people still live as though they have to earn what God has already freely given. Most importantly, we’ll invite people to receive this amazing grace for themselves.

Then, Jasmine Eyer shares her live testimony about how she, and her family, found Christ after a journey of struggle and hardship.

Isn’t it true that, at times, grace just doesn’t seem fair? It doesn’t feel that way so much when we’re receiving grace—but when we’re asked to give it away, that’s when we notice.

We live in a culture where everything is earned. We say, in effect, “there’s no such thing as a free lunch.” You have to work for it. And yet, into this mindset, Jesus steps in and freely extends grace—to you and to me. And if we’re honest, that can feel unsettling.

This Sunday, as we continue our series Amazing Grace, we’ll be talking about Unsettling Grace. Because before the grace of God feels amazing in your life, it often first feels deeply personal—and deeply unsettling.

We’ll explore three reasons why grace can feel this way:

  1. It isn’t fair.
  2. It requires humility.
  3. It’s meant to be shared.

Don’t miss this Sunday as we continue discovering the amazing grace of God. See you there.

Wouldn’t you agree it’s often easier to receive grace for ourselves than to extend it to others?

This Sunday, as we continue our Amazing Grace series, we’ll be diving into the connection between grace and forgiveness.

We’ll explore the beautiful reality that, in Christ, we have been fully forgiven by God—and the challenging truth that we are called to offer that same forgiveness to others.

Join us as we discover the power of forgiveness and walk through some practical ways to truly live it out.

We want to try something with you. We're going to ask you a question—and we think we can guess your answer.

Ready? Here it is: What is the first hymn that comes to mind?

Did you say “Amazing Grace”? If we took a poll, I suspect it would be the number one answer. But why is this hymn so well known? What is so amazing about “Amazing Grace”?

This episode, we’re starting a new series called Amazing Grace. B.J. Van Kalsbeek kicks us off as we look at a verse from John—an eyewitness of Jesus—who wrote that Jesus came full of grace and truth. We’ll also explore a powerful story Jesus told that beautifully demonstrates the grace of God. Any guesses which one?

Together, we’ll discover a few life-changing truths about God’s grace—truths that don’t just change us… they change everything.

To close today's episode, enjoy a special worship mashup of 'Amazing Grace' and 'Sinking Deep' by the Sunnybrook Worship Team.

Do you feel that worry, anxiety, and fear are becoming more common in our world? All you have to do is watch the news—or maybe look at some things in your own life—to realize it. Yet the Bible makes it clear that we are told "Do not be afraid" more times than any other command. These were the first words from the angel to the women who found the tomb empty, and they were also the first words of Jesus to His followers after His resurrection.

We're convinced, that because of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus, we do not need to be afraid. And this Sunday, I want to give you three reasons why we do not need to be afraid:

  1. Our sins have been forgiven.
  2. We have a reason for living.
  3. We have the hope of heaven.

This episode include testimonies from Brayden Dinkla, Monte (Michael) Montemurno, and Lori Keunen about how they found Christ in their lives when hope was lost. Additionally, Tammie Thedford sings of the Goodness of God as we declare the faithfulness of God on Easter Sunday.

We're continuing to prepare for Easter 2026! In this episode, Pastor Jeff and Lydia continue their conversation about The Crimson Thread - this time, through the lens of the New Testament.

View Details

It is often said that preparation shapes celebration.
That’s why, this Sunday, we prepare our hearts for what’s to come.

As we ready ourselves to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, we pause to reflect on what was sacrificed on our behalf—the blood shed by our Savior. As we conclude our Crimson Thread series, we turn to the book of Exodus and the Passover, where we see a foreshadowing of Christ’s sacrifice. On the night when applied blood meant life given, we witness the beginning of what would ultimately lead to our salvation—the death of Jesus, and His blood poured out so that we might have life.

Today, we will sit in reverent remembrance of the Passover—what it established for God’s people and its lasting impact on all who come to know Jesus as Lord and Savior.

Have you ever heard of the word “scapegoat"? In the modern day, it’s a person who’s unfairly blamed for the mistakes of others. Think of a manager who unfairly blames an employee for a company's failure.

Likely all of us, at some point in our lives, have blamed our failures and our mistakes on someone else. And it's likely been to no avail. But wouldn’t it be nice if you could REALLY place all of your failures on someone else? Wouldn’t you love to have a scapegoat for all your failures and mistakes in life?

The good news is... we do. Jesus is our scapegoat. Listen as Pastor Jeff Moes continues in our series “The Crimson Thread.” We will be looking at Leviticus 16 and the Day of Atonement. We will talk about the scapegoat, who symbolically had the sin of the people placed on his head, and how he was taken far away. We will recognize together that Jesus is our ultimate Scapegoat.

Have you ever wondered if you are good enough, have enough faith, or know enough about the Bible to be acceptable to God? I’m sure we all have at some point. The good news is that the writer of the book of Hebrews actually includes a prostitute in the Hall of Faith. In fact, one scholar argues that she is the most significant figure of faith in all of Hebrews 11.

This week, as we continue in our series “The Crimson Thread,” Pastor Jeff Moes takes a look at Rahab, the prostitute in Joshua 2. Rahab was the one who hid the spies and protected them when the king's men came looking for them. As a reward, Rahab and her family were told that they would be protected from the destruction of Jericho if they placed a “Crimson/Scarlett Cord” outside the window of their home.

This week, we want to look at Rahab’s faith: the simplicity of it, the sufficiency of it, and the legacy it produced for her entire family. Because if Rahab the prostitute can be made acceptable to God by grabbing hold and hiding behind a scarlet cord symbolizing the shed blood of Jesus, then so can you and me.

Have you ever wondered how the Bible fits together? Is there one theme - something that holds it all together - from Genesis to Revelation? I believe there is. Scholars call it the “Crimson Thread”, and it runs from the beginning to the end of the Bible.

For the next 4 weeks leading up to Easter, we will talk about this Crimson Thread. We will be looking at four Old Testament stories that are a part of this Crimson Thread that lead us to Jesus and His redemptive work.

This week, Pastor Jeff Moes will look at the story of Abraham and God’s call on his life to sacrifice his son, Isaac. We will compare the story of Abraham and Isaac with the story of Jesus and see, together, how Jesus became our Substitute. Be sure to be here this Sunday and every Sunday leading up to Easter as we prepare our hearts to celebrate the Resurrection.

We enter the final week of our relationship series, taking a look at one of the most complicated, all-consuming relationships: our relationship to our work. Though it’s sometimes easy for us to connect how our faith should impact our marriage or our parenting, it can often be difficult to connect it to our workplace. How does being a believer in Jesus impact how I should approach my work? How should it change the role that work plays in my life? What bearing does it have on how I handle that annoying co-worker?

This episode, Pastor Lydia Miller concludes our study of this portion of scripture from the Apostle Paul, taking an in-depth look at the wisdom he offers on how we posture ourselves towards our authority, our employees, and our task at the workplace.

This week, we are continuing our series ’The Art of Relationships’ by taking a look at marriage.

As we look at Ephesians 5:22-33 together, we will see that God has designed marriage and given us instructions for loving each other well as husbands and wives. However, if you have been married longer than 30 seconds (enough time to have your first kiss and walk down the aisle), then you know that trying to implement those instructions is where things can get… well, complicated.

This episode, Erich Erdman will look at God’s design and directions for marriage, and how His glory is displayed when husband and wife love each other well.

We are kicking off a brand new series entitled The Art of Relationships. I think we all know there is an art to doing relationships and doing them well. Friendship, marriage, parenting, relationships with our coworkers- all of it takes work, intentionality, and wisdom. For the last few weeks, we have been in our series The Way of Jesus. Throughout this series, we’ve explored what it truly means to be a disciple—a follower of Jesus. In the Gospel of John, Jesus tells us that we are “truly His disciples if we hold to His teachings,” and together we have been examining what those teachings are. What does it mean to develop a life that follows after Him? What rhythms and practices must I put in place to help me become a better disciple to my Savior?

This episode, as we close out our series, Pastor Lydia Miller takes us back to the very beginning. Because often, when we lean into disciplines, practices, and rhythms of the Christian life, it can be easy to fall back into the idea that these disciplines and practices contribute something to the salvation we receive from our Father. This week, we are going to study the final phrase of the scripture we have looked at each week:

"... and the truth will set you free."

Together, we will discover how we lean into the true freedom we have in the sacrifice of Jesus and the grace of God.

Have you ever wondered, “Is it my responsibility to grow spiritually, or is that God’s?”Is spiritual maturity something we strive for, or do we simply let go and let God?

Last episode, we began a new series titled The Way of Jesus. It is an intimate and practical look at what it truly means to follow Him. This series invites us to consider what it looks like to shape our lives around Jesus’ presence, His character, and His practices.

This episode, Pastor Jeff Moes explores what it means to be shaped by the presence of God. Together, we’ll learn what it means to abide in Jesus and allow Him, from the inside out, to form our lives into His likeness.

Whether you are new to the faith or have walked with Jesus for many years, come this Sunday ready to be Shaped by His Presence—and, in doing so, become more faithful followers of The Way of Jesus.

What does committing your life to Jesus really look like? What are you really signing up for? Does it just mean heaven eventually? Because if so, who wouldn’t be in for that? Maybe you’ve been following Jesus for a while—you’ve declared faith in Him and commitment to Him—but your walk with Him feels stiff, difficult, and honestly, sometimes boring.

In this new year, Pastor Lydia Miller kicks off a new series entitled The Way of Jesus. It will be an intimate and practical look into what it means to be a follower of Jesus—what it means to shape your life around His presence, His character, and His practices. Whether you are new to faith and want to learn more about what you’d be signing up for when following Him, or you are a long-time believer in need of a deeper understanding of what full devotion to Him looks like, this series will help each of us become better followers of The Way of Jesus.

This Christmas, Pastor Jeff Moes steps into the story we think we know — and discovering something deeper. We’ll read the familiar words of Luke 2, then turn to Matthew 1 to look at the people in Jesus’ family line… the broken, the doubtful, and the messy.

From Abraham’s questions, to Rahab’s past, to a family in need of healing, this message is for anyone who’s ever wondered if God could really use them.
Because Christmas isn’t about perfect people — it’s about a perfect Savior stepping into imperfect stories.

As we step into a new year, many of us start thinking about goals — what we want to grow, change, or leave behind. This episode, Pastor Lydia Miller will walk us through how Jesus modeled a life of intentional growth and how we can follow His example as we set goals that actually shape who we’re becoming.

Together, we’ll look at four key areas of growth Jesus demonstrated: Intellectual, Physical, Spiritual, and Social. These aren’t just resolutions to check off — they’re rhythms that help us live with purpose, balance, and depth.

If you’re ready to start the year with clarity, direction, and a Christ-centered vision for your life, this message is for you.

In this season of Advent as we approach Christmas, you might imagine reading this while sitting by a fireplace, sipping a hot cup of cocoa, with Christmas carolers singing in the neighborhood.

Wait—that’s not happening for you? Your last name isn’t Hallmark? Yeah, me neither.

For many of us, this season leaves us feeling rushed and pulled in countless directions. If we’re honest, it can be deeply stressful and fill our hearts with anxiety. Others may experience a sense of emptiness or loneliness that feels especially heavy this time of year—bringing its own kind of anxiety, even if for different reasons.

In the midst of feeling peace-less, Scripture reminds us that Jesus offers us His peace. Join us on this message from B.J. Van Kalsbeek as we continue our series, The Arrival. We consider how we can experience peace from the Prince of Peace—not only this Christmas, but all year long, even when life feels far from perfect.

It’s hard to believe, but Christmas is just around the corner. Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be taking intentional time to prepare our hearts for the coming of Jesus. This is the Advent season—advent meaning “coming” or “arrival.” It’s a time set apart to ready ourselves to celebrate the birth of our Savior.

For the next two weeks, we’ll be exploring the Advent themes of Hope and Peace—two gifts Jesus came to bring. But when we look at the world around us, with all its hurt and despair, it’s easy to feel our hope slipping. So how do we look to Jesus, our ultimate source of hope? Pastor Jeff Moes shares three truths about God’s unfailing hope.

This Sunday is Commitment Sunday! In this week’s message, we want to ask the question: What amazes Jesus? We know that Jesus is amazing—but what amazes Him? As we look again at the story in Mark 2, we discover that people’s faith amazes Jesus. Every time people do extraordinary things on behalf of someone else to demonstrate their faith in Him, He is amazed. We see this in the story of the paralytic, where Jesus was amazed by the faith of the friends.

During this message, Pastor Jeff Moes presents the opportunity to bring forward your commitment card. You'll have the ability to demonstrate your family’s faith and trust in Jesus by making a three-year financial pledge and committing to reach one person who doesn’t yet know Him. Please come pray over your One & your commitment. There is a link below to bring forth your commitment below.

Ever feel like you’ve forgotten something? It’s one of the worst feelings in the world. The truth is, we’re a forgetful people—and that means we can even forget God’s goodness, His faithfulness, and the ways we’ve seen Him move in our lives.

But our forgetfulness can become one of the greatest enemies of our faith. So as we continue stepping into what God is calling us to in For the One, let’s do so with renewed trust. Erich Erdman pauses and looks back at God’s faithfulness. Not onlyin our personal lives, but through the life of Sunnybrook Community Church. Pastor Jeff Moes narrates as we take a look at His faithfulness in this church, and how it is our turn to give back to those coming after us. Remembering what He’s done will stir up fresh faith to follow where He’s leading us now.

Have you ever noticed how protective we get about our spot at church? If you thought ‘yes’ don’t worry—I’ve been guilty myself.

This week, Pastor Jeff gives the message as we staying in the story of the paralytic, but we’re looking at a new perspective—the crowds in Capernaum. Those who showed up early, waited for Jesus, and weren’t about to give up their place for anyone… even those in need.

But when Jesus shows up, He doesn’t address those waiting in the crowd—He uses the friends on the roof the show us what real faith and compassion look like.

So here’s the question we will be dealing with Sunday: are we making room for people who show up late to the party? Or are we guarding our seat? Let’s unpack this together.

Well, last week we kicked off our journey through the story of the paralytic in Mark 2. In our series FOR the ONE, we’re taking a look at this story from every angle and asking ourselves: Who would be the one I would carry to Jesus if I could?

This week, Pastor Lydia Miller will focus on my favorite people in the story—the friends. Together, we’ll study the faith these four had and how that faith moved the heart of their friend. More importantly, we’ll explore how our own faith can mirror theirs. We’ll also talk practically about how we can bring our One into the presence of Jesus.

We also hear a live testimony from Bobby Beach-Pattison, a young man whose eternal life hung in the balance after an invite to church.

Last Sunday was a wonderful start to our campaign series, FOR the ONE! Pastor Jeff shared why we are doing this campaign and what it truly means to have a “One.” Every believer in Christ has at least one person in their life who doesn’t yet know Jesus—whether that’s a family member, coworker, friend, or neighbor. As followers of Christ, our desire should be for every nonbeliever to experience a personal relationship with Him. Pastor Jeff challenged us to identify our One and begin praying intentionally for them.

This episode, we have another exciting message as we continue our FOR the ONE series— we also celebrate Baptism Sunday! Baptism is a public declaration of one’s decision to accept Christ as Lord and Savior and a beautiful step of obedience in faith. Pastor Jeff also shares the powerful story of the Paralytic and how he came to be healed by Christ through the influence of his friends.

We're sure you’ve heard by now that we are entering into a Building Campaign. This Sunday, Pastor Jeff Moes will take a moment to share with you “The What” of our Building Program—what exactly are we building? But even more than that, I want to share “The Why.” Why are we building?

We are kicking off a brand-new series entitled FOR the ONE. We want to challenge each of you to think of “the one” person in our lives who doesn’t yet know Christ as their Savior—the one person we desperately want to see surrender their life to Jesus.

This week’s message is entitled “Who Cares?” Who cares about the lost people of this world—and if we don’t, why don’t we? We’ll look at Luke 15 and see the heart of our Heavenly Father toward the lost.

We want to challenge you that if this is the heart of our Father, then it should also be the heart of His Bride—the Church.

Also included in today's podcast - a special testimony from Shauna Reed-Oetken. Shauna shares how her father, who was at one point a self-proclaimed atheist, found Christ through Sunnybrook.

Think back to your middle school years… Or maybe don’t—if they bring up memories of braces, bad haircuts, and that unforgettable locker room smell no amount of deodorant could fix.

Whether those years were good or awkward (or both), they were some of the most formative when it came to shaping who you were becoming. The people you surrounded yourself with and the content you consumed, whether in real life, online, or on social media, played a big role in forming your character.

This episode, Erich Erdman dives into Psalm 1 together, we’ll see that the same is true for what we might call the “spiritual middle schooler.” This stage of faith—spiritual adolescence—is a key time for growth. It’s when we learn what it means to follow Jesus more deeply and to let Him shape every part of who we are becoming.

This episode we begin by making an announcement that will not only impact the future Sunnybrook Community Church, but all of Siouxland.

Have you ever asked yourself, “How do I grow in the Christian faith?” Maybe you’re new to following Christ, or maybe you’ve known Jesus for years but feel like you haven’t grown as much as you’d hoped. Either way, this message is for you.

Pastor Jeff Moes continues our teaching series, Spiritual Growth 101, as we talk about how to move from spiritual infancy to a deeper, more mature walk with Jesus. Together, we’ll look at Acts 2 and discover what the early church devoted themselves to in order to grow—and how God used those commitments to make an incredible impact around the world.

We'll share four simple things every believer needs to grow in Christ: the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, the breaking of bread, and prayer. We’ll end our time together by celebrating one of those—communion.

Daniel received a powerful vision and discovered that God speaks even in the waiting. I believe He wants to speak to you, too, in the waiting season of your life.

Have you ever thought to yourself, “I am under attack, I must not be in God’s will”?

The truth is—you might not be. But sometimes, the very challenges we face are evidence that we’re right in the center of God’s will.

Too often, people assume that once they become Christians, God makes life easier. But that’s not always the case. In fact, when we live boldly for God, the enemy often takes notice and stirs up all kinds of opposition. That’s exactly what we see in the life of Daniel.

As we continue in our series Stand Firm, Pastor Jeff Moes leads us in to Daniel 6 that the spiritual attack Daniel faced was actually evidence that he was doing something right. And the same may be true for us.

This Sunday, we’ll ask the question: How do you stand firm when you’re under attack?

Would you agree that it’s becoming more challenging to faithfully follow Jesus in a culture constantly pulling us away? More and more, it feels like our world is growing hostile toward the values we hold in God’s Word. So the question is: How do we, as followers of Jesus, stand firm in today’s world? How do we remain strong in our faith while still loving well?

Over the next four weeks, we’ll be exploring what it means to stand firm as we walk through the Old Testament book of Daniel. This episode, Pastor Jeff Moes begin with “Living for Jesus in a Culture of Compromise” from Daniel 1. We’ll see how four young teenagers were forced to live in Babylon but refused to let Babylon live in them. If Daniel and his friends could live in the world but not be of the world, then we can too!

At the end of this episode, we will be partaking in communion. At Sunnybrook Community Church we encourage all who know Jesus as their savior to partake. If able, we encourage you to use crackers or bread and juice or wine in remembrance of the Lord's body and blood.

As we wrap up our series on prayer, Pastor Lydia Miller will be looking at one of the most important aspects of prayer: hearing from God. While many of us would say there’s nothing we’d love more than to hear from Him—for guidance, encouragement, or instruction—we aren’t always intentional about creating the time and space to listen.

This episode, we’re going to get incredibly practical. Together, we’ll walk through the three primary ways God speaks to us and discuss how we can better position ourselves to hear Him. This would be a great Sunday to bring something to write with and on, so you can jot down strategies and take note of practices that will help guide you in pursuing deeper communion with God.

We also have Amanda Brophy singing I Won't Move, and Erich Erdman teeing up our next series Stand Firm, where we will take at the book of Daniel and how to stand steady in our faith in a world that isn't.

As you consider your own prayer life, it feels natural to consider the prayers of Jesus. How did He pray? What did He pray for? Because I don’t know about you, but I want to pray like He did!

Did you know Jesus actually prayed specifically for you? He prayed, near the end of His life for future believers. Specifically, He prayed that we would experience unity. He prayed that we would be unified, just as He and the Father are, and went a step further by declaring that this unity would show the world that the Father had sent Him. If the stakes are that high, then it seems unity needs to be something we pray for regularly, too.

This episode, Pastor Lydia Miller unpacks this prayer from Jesus in John 17. We are going to look at its implications for our own prayer lives and the importance of such a prayer for our life as a church, as well.

This week as we continue in our series A Praying Life Pastor Jeff Moes will look at that prayer. Why has the church prayed this prayer for so long and what does it mean? We are starting a brand-new series titled, A Praying Life. Scripture calls us to “pray continually” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). Essentially, for the follower of Jesus, prayer should be as natural and continual as breathing. However, for many of us, that is simply not the case. No one has to tell us how to breathe, but we would really love for someone to tell us how to pray.

Thankfully, Jesus has! Tune in as Erich Erdman leads us as we look at His words in response to His disciples saying, “Teach us how to pray.”

Let’s be honest—sometimes we have questions that feel too awkward or embarrassing to ask out loud. So, we hide behind the phrase, “just asking for a friend.”

Most people know it’s really our question, but saying it that way gives us a little cover in case it sounds silly or uncomfortable. The same thing often happens in church. We hesitate to ask tough questions about faith because we don’t want to seem foolish or unspiritual.

In this next series, we want to put an end to that, and for the next five weeks we are going to be in a series called Asking for a Friend. We will be looking at some of the tough questions of the Christian faith and trying to answer them from Scripture.

This week Pastor Jeff Moes leads the discussion from a question we’ve all had at one time: “Why would a loving God send people to Hell?” We will dive into why God would create a place such as Hell and what the purpose behind it was. Even more importantly, we’ll talk about how you and I can have confidence that we’ll never end up there.

As we finish our "Who Am I?" series, Erich Erdman leads us as we take a look at 1 Peter 2:11–12. Peter was writing to a group of believers who were scattered and suffering for their faith in Jesus. Yet despite the persecution they faced, he didn’t urge them to withdraw or hide from culture—but instead to step in and be a redemptive force within it.

If we're honest, many of us live our lives trying to make sure we aren't the “weird Christian.” We want to make sure that what we believe doesn't impact who we are. Ridiculous, right? The reality is though, that many believers live that way- maybe you included! It can be hard to figure out how our faith intersects in our world, and we often work to preserve our old selves and our reputation along the way. But the series we have been in has been a study in how Christians are called to the exact opposite of that. We have studied how, in Christ, we are a new creation. We are a masterpiece, set apart, for the good work that God has prepared for us.

So how do we live in to that? Pastor Lydia Miller leads us to study our marching orders from Jesus, our call in Matthew 5 and how you and I are in to live in light of His words.

Last week, we looked at the peace “willed” to us by Jesus. Though, I would argue that sounds like something all of us would love to have, it can be hard to attain. How exactly do I experience perfect peace, and what in the world do I do with all my worry in the meantime?

Well, Jesus gave us instructions for just that! Not only did He will us His peace, but He gave us direction on what (and who) to look towards if we struggle to find it.

This week, Pastor Lydia Miller is going to teach about the promise from Jesus that we can experience freedom from our worries. We will study Matthew 6:25-34 and take a look at how you and I can practically invite in the peace of God, and free ourselves from the worries that overwhelm us.

Today, on Mother's Day Sunday, Pastor Jeff Moes continues our series Promises, we’ll be looking at Jesus’ promise to give us His peace—a peace unlike anything the world can offer. It’s a lasting, godly peace that isn’t dependent on our circumstances.

Have you ever said, “I’d give anything for a moment of peace”? Of course you have—we all have. Life is busy: packed schedules, bills to pay, houses to clean, kids to shuttle around, and so much more. With everything going on, we all crave a little peace.

The problem is, the world only offers a temporary, surface-level peace. It may help us cope for a while, but it doesn’t last.

Have you ever found yourself asking, “God, don’t You care?”

Most of us have asked that question at some point. Deep down, we know that storms are a part of life. But even in storms, we often just need to be reminded of the presence of God. We need the reassurance that He promises to be with us through it all.

When we hold onto this — we can get through anything life throws our way in this fallen world.

This week, Pastor Jeff Moes continues our series Promises, we’ll be focusing on one of the most powerful promises in God’s Word: “I will be with you always…” We will take a look at Mark 4:35-41 and talk about how the presence of God made all the difference in the life of the disciples as they faced a storm.

Christ is Risen! He is risen indeed.

Pastor Jeff Moes kicks off our brand-new series (yes, on Easter!) called "Promises." Over the next six weeks, we’ll explore the powerful promises God has made to us in Scripture—His promise to be with us, to give us peace, to give us rest, and so much more.

We will reflect on one of God’s most powerful promises: “He loves us.” We’ll dive into John 3:16 and the parable of the shepherd who leaves the ninety-nine to find the one lost sheep—a beautiful reminder of God’s relentless love.

It is often said that preparation shapes celebration.
That’s why in this episode, we prepare our hearts for what’s to come.

This year, Erich Erdman, Pastor Lydia Miller, and Pastor Jeff Moes, do so by walking us through the crucifixion through the eyes of someone who was there.

We’ll explore the events through the experiences, missteps, and humanity of a man named Peter. Chosen by Jesus to be one of His closest disciples, Peter was more than a follower—he was a dear friend. He was there for miracle after miracle, teaching after teaching, and he boldly declared his loyalty to the One he called theMessiah.

So, what happened? What led to Peter’s famous denial and what can you and I learn in light of it?

There is nothing worse than feeling unappreciated, overlooked, or unseen. When it seems like the people in your life take you for granted, it can be incredibly disheartening. But it's comforting to remember that even Jesus experienced these feelings at times.

Today, Pastor Lydia Miller dives into the story of the 10 lepers in Luke 17. We’ll reflect on their plea to Jesus, His response, and their surprising lack of gratitude. What happens when the Son of God feels taken for granted? And, more importantly, how should we respond when we find ourselves in the same situation?

We explore these questions and discover how we can learn from Jesus’ reaction.

This week, Pastor Jeff Moes addresses a topic that’s not often discussed in church but affects more individuals and families than many are willing to admit. We’ll be talking about abuse.

While it’s a difficult subject, we believe it’s crucial for the church to acknowledge and talk about it so that those impacted can begin the healing process. As we continue our series, "Been There," we recognize that whatever pain, difficulty, or challenge you’re facing, Jesus has experienced it too. Abuse is no exception.

We’ll explore the physical, emotional, and psychological abuse Jesus endured during the crucifixion, and offer insights for both the abuser and those who have been abused. Our hope is to bring healing through Jesus.

This episode, Erich Erdman leads us and continues our journey through the book of Ruth. In dating, relationships and in life, there are two common fears that often hold us back from stepping into all that God has for us:

  1. The fear of putting ourselves out there because we’re afraid of rejection.
  2. The fear of commitment because we’re afraid of making the wrong choice.

We’ll learn from our lovely duo, Ruth and Boaz, how we can overcome these fears. First, we must become confident in who we are in Christ. Second, we must trust that even if we don’t get it right, God can make it right!

Last week, we began our study of the book of Ruth. We acknowledged that, at times, Moab can seem appealing. When the struggles in our lives cloud our view of God's faithfulness, it can be tempting to take a path that leads us further away from Him. We ended by asking an important question: “What one decision could you make; what one action can you take that would change the trajectory of your life and legacy?”

This week, Pastor Lydia Miller leads us as we explore what life can look like when you begin taking that step in the right direction.

We will discover the blessings Bethlehem holds for them—and the blessings your obedience could hold as well.

When it comes to the living out of your faith, do you ever sense that you’re just going through the motions? Or that you ever are doing something out of duty or obligation but really don’t want to do so? Yeah, me too.

Walking through Jonah chapter 4, we’ll see that while Jonah’s actions were outwardly obedient, inwardly his heart was still heading a different direction. It all started with a question. A recognition. That for far too long, churches have been known for what they are against. We wanted to flip the script. What would happen if we were known for what we are FOR? For each other, for our community, for our world. What would happen, if we linked arms and multiplied the efforts around us to GIVE, SERVE, AND LOVE, like never before? And, in turn, unleashed the same extravagant generosity that God first showed us. Check out this talk from Pastor Jeff Moes as he continues on in our FOR Siouxland series and takes a look at Loving. Check out this talk from Amanda Brophy as she continues on in the FOR The World series and takes a look at how we are "blessed to be a blessing." Check it out!

I know we are all familiar with SOAP and its amazing benefits for cleanliness, but have you ever applied it to the Bible? Check this out to see what I am talking about.

We have all been that Sunday afternoon couch quarterback.  Or at least been around one, you know who I am talking about. The game is on, the nachos are flowing and the couch QB has all the answers…… or so they think. What if it was ok to not have all the answers? To trust even in the unknown, to give up control when life gets hard and instead of coaching from the couch, sit back, relax, and look up. Check out this talk from Pastor Jeff where we look at one simple life altering statement, “I can’t, God can, I think I’ll let Him.” Check it out.

"5, 4, 3, 2, 1……. READY OR NOT HERE I COME.” We have all played hide and seek right? and there was always that one person who didn’t quite play by the rules. They either didn’t hide at all or hid for so long that the looking wasn’t fun anymore. Have you ever felt like God is that way? That it feels like He is hiding so well that it’s not even worth looking for Him anymore? Take a quick listen to this talk and see how you are not the one looking BUT the reality is a loving, forgiving Father has already found you.

God’s Kingdom is a counter cultural, upside down, backwards type of Kingdom. One where the least is greatest, less is more, our enemies are prayed for and our King, He came as a humble Savior, a man who walked as we walked, and took on death so we could experience eternal life with God. If this is completely foreign to you, check out this talk because the Kingdom of God… is nothing like this world has ever seen.

There is something great about being invited to the dinner party. The one where everyone goes to be seen and how cool it is that you were invited. When Jesus was around it was a lot like that. People were known and liked or overlooked and rejected based on what party they were invited to and which seat at the table had their name on it. That’s a lot of pressure to know people and be known, but really not that different then today. This talk takes a look at being different. Not a life wrapped up in making ourselves known, but in making God known. God is for you and there is hope and whether you realize it or not you are welcome, check this out.

When Jesus came He didn’t call a lot of attention to Himself, He came to serve and not to be served. Unfortunately, we on the other hand often do seek the attention and that struggle is real. Check out this talk where we ask the questions: What do I want to do? What is my motivation to get me there? Is my life only about me or is it for other people? And we see through the example of Jesus that we can and should love God and love other people.

In the world we live in holding on to everything that we have and searching for the security of “more” is kind of the norm. We buy into the myths of, “It is all mine,” “I will be happier if I have a little more,” or “I can spend tomorrow’s money to find today’s fulfillment.” In this talk we are taking a look at how God wants us to be generous. To not wait until tomorrow, or until we have more but to be generous today. That our fulfillment is not in what we have BUT in who He is. Check this out.

Success is often measured by the life quest for greatness. The temptation to spend our lives executing that mission within our realm of reality. We start off with becoming the best student, the best athlete, the best musician, the best son or daughter, working our way up to valedictorian or top of our class, after that we seek out the best job, the best raise, the best house and the best business deal. All in a life pursuit of reaching the top and "making it." But what if God designed it to work differently, instead of fighting for the top we should serve at the bottom, in stead of focusing on "me" we are reaching out to the "we." Check out this talk on the incredible life of John the Baptist and how, like all of us, He was called to Descend into Greatness.

It is so easy in our day in and day out to want to be first. We want our food fast, our shows on demand, and our shopping delivered to our home. Isn’t it so easy to have a me first mindset? What if I told you God designed things to work differently? Check out this talk and see how God has called us not to sit back and be served, but to look for how we can serve others in both big and small ways.

You may have prayed these words before: "Our father, who art in heaven. Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven." But what exactly does that mean anyway? For God’s kingdom to come to earth? For God’s kingdom to come here, to us? It requires a counter cultural, upside down, backwards type of Kingdom. Because the Kingdom of God… is nothing like this world has ever seen.

Temptation is a reality for all of us, especially when we feel alone in the wilderness. The funny thing about a wilderness is it shows us who we really are and how we will react in day to day situations. It exposes those little things we are trying so desperately to hold on to or even hide from those around us. In this talk we are taking a look at some of the larger temptations we face on a regular basis; pride, pleasure, and power and how we can overcome those temptations in our day to day life.

We don’t always like to take a look back in time and revisit those memories we thought were locked away forever. That time we were the only kid who had braces, or that pimple that haunted our school photo 3 years in a row, or maybe a more serious event that changed the course of our life forever. Whether those memories are good or bad they are moments that have been marked in each of our lives and have made a great impact. This talk takes a look at the story of Joshua and how God called him to mark a moment to remember that God was faithful in both the good and the bad moments. What moments may God be asking you to mark to remember his faithfulness in your life? Check this out.

Betrayal can come at us from many directions. It may surprise us from the hand of a stranger, slam us from a coworker, or even worse alter our lives from someone closer than anyone in the world. What happens when that great betrayal comes and suddenly is standing on our doorstep? It takes great faith to be able to forgive a great betrayal. If that hits home with you, this message is for you and will help navigate what humanly none of us have the power to do on our own, forgive.

Sometimes life comes at us fast, things have happened to us or around us that we can’t control and often times don’t understand. In those moments it’s easy to throw the blame on God, question if He cares and even hold a grudge against Him. This message takes a look at the powerful story of Hannah; how her end was better than her beginning, how she worshipped God through some dark moments and even though it looked bleak her waiting wasn’t wasted. Maybe you have experienced some tough moments with God, know that your story isn’t over and just like Hannah God can restore you.

Struggling with shame or regret? Those feelings are normal, but it's not what God wants for you. Too often the guilt we feel from the choices we've made takes us from thinking that "we've done something bad," to "we are bad." Let's take a look together today at how God longs for us to forgive ourselves and move forward into who He is calling us to be.
