We all know that there's no place quite like home. It's true whether you're a human, a dog or any other animal under the sun.

And, for a dog that's not had a place to call home for a while, it's so important they have the right one. It is for that reason that all rescues that care about the future of their animals take homechecks very seriously during the rehoming process.

In this episode we speak with Simon Patterson who is Husky Rescue Ireland's Homecheck Coordinator. Simon oversees hundreds of homechecks all across Ireland and Northern Ireland every year. A dedicated team of volunteers help Simon to complete the homechecks wherever they're needed, give advice to prospective adopters and report back to HQ on the suitability of applicants for rehoming a husky or akita. From there, the team decides on what's best for the dogs and their prospective adopters.

It's a very much needed activity with lots of detail and one that, of course, never ends in the ongoing work of rehoming hundreds of dogs each and every year.

Simon also talks to us about his own pack of 6 huskies and how much fun they all have together out on their scooter runs! We're all left feeling like we want to join him sometime!

In this episode we speak with Tara Loughlin, who is based at the HRI centre, after a sleepless night spent out in the foggy garden!

We talk to Tara about Freya, a terrified little husky who is currently living in the centre's office room as she learns to trust the team. We also talk about the kind of things that people can do if they see a dog they think might be vulnerable.

This is an episode with plenty of behind-the-scenes action at Ireland's only rescue centre for akitas as well as huskies. It's a must for anyone who wants to know about the reality of a typical day - as in, there are no typical days!

In this interview we speak with Laura Losada, a volunteer at Husky Rescue Ireland.

Laura is originally from Colombia and tells us how she first came to Ireland and then got to know the rescue. She then recounts some of her fondest memories from the rescue. Namely, we speak about Asha, an akita who was rescued from the pound and, to everyone's surprise, was heavily pregnant when she arrived at the HRI centre. We talk about the days that followed as Asha gave birth to her puppies, had to be rushed to hospital and was lucky to make it.

Happily, Asha's story is a happy one.  She and her puppies have now all been adopted to loving homes.

We also talk about more of the good and difficult times that Laura has seen at HRI, and talk about what it's like being a volunteer and part of the "Husky Rescue Ireland family" as Laura calls it!

This is a wonderful episode to tune into for anyone who has ever been curious about getting involved with an animal shelter as a volunteer. It's an experience that has become a huge part of Laura's life and it truly shows!
