Mike explored the legacy of a historical figure initially viewed as an adversary by the United States but subsequently regarded as a hero. Known as "The Panther Across the Sky," he was a proficient hunter, warrior, and speaker who spearheaded a rebellion. Although he faced opposition from the United States, his unifying leadership and empathy for his adversaries secured his historical significance. Mike emphasized a particular event where "The Panther Across the Sky" mercifully spared a contingent of Kentucky militia, opting to deescalate the conflict instead of permitting a massacre.

Mike tells the tale of a young man who rose to become a skilled hunter, imparting his expertise to fellow villagers at the chief's behest. Over time, the other hunters abandoned the challenging techniques. The young man persisted in hunting solo, sustaining the village. When newcomers sought to settle nearby with a promise of sustainable hunting, the old chief consented. The newcomers' chief then asked for the village's finest hunter to instruct them. Following the death of the seasoned panther hunter, the village faced starvation, prompting the new chief to adopt the old hunter's strategies. This narrative is a call to embrace lessons from the past to prosper in the present.

He likened it to following a grandfather's flame, symbolizing the constant presence of warmth and light, even in the bleakest situations. He noted that fear and despair might tempt one to make poor decisions or withdraw from challenges, yet reaffirming one's dedication to their chosen path can conquer such emotions. Additionally, he underscored that the grandfather's flame serves as sustenance for both the body and spirit, inspiring people to persist in their endeavors.

Mike encouraged his listeners to set aside the distractions of the rat race and take the time to be still, to listen to the songs of nature, and to feel them in their hearts. He also asked for support in growing the show by having listeners tell their friends about it and leave reviews.

Mike shared the story of Crazy Horse, a Lakota warrior and leader. He highlighted that Crazy Horse, whose original name was Lighthair, was motivated to overcome challenges due to his lighter hair and skin, which made him a target for ridicule. Despite being a loner, Crazy Horse had great compassion for people. He went on to perform many brave acts, earning him a reputation that still endures today. A significant event that led to his father giving him the name Crazy Horse was his return from a war raid, during which he began courting a young woman.

Change frequently ushers in uncertainty and fear, yet it also opens doors to new possibilities. A narrative centered on embracing change would depict a protagonist confronting a significant life shift, such as embarking on a new career, relocating to a different city, or undergoing any alteration that propels them beyond their comfort zone. Initially, they might oppose the change, fretting over the possibility of failure or struggling in a new environment. Nevertheless, as the tale unfolds, they understand that change, despite its daunting nature, creates opportunities for personal development.

In today's podcast episode, I took some time out while exploring one of Michigan's GEMS hunting units to set up this beautiful conversation. Which was a very fitting location to share with you.  My guest at the campfire is a transformation coach. Who learned the skills she shared with her clients by taking the reins of her own life. Hilary Dahi hit that point many of us come across. Where we figure out that our current skin no longer fits us. By facing the fear of blazing a new trail for herself Hilary uncovered her true purpose in life and lives to share her journey to help others blaze their new trails. What makes our conversation so special is how Hilary shares the struggles of discovery. Instead of staying the victim with the story. She blended grace and understanding with drive and a willingness to learn.

At the campfire, we join by Paul Granger to explore spirituality.

About Paul

Through serving in various forms of ministry for over two decades, Paul has realized the predominant theme has been cultivating authentic, accessible space to process God and life. You can learn more about me through my profile, my podcast "Where did you see God", and at wheredidyouseeGod.com.

The "shepherding/pastoral" gifting gives Paul the unique ability to cultivate rich dialogue and process life's difficult questions.  While he has many stories to share of his journey of learning who God is, who he is, and what that means for his life, he knows God can use any conversation to do "abundantly more" than simply telling his stories.

Paul enjoys sharing what it means to take crazy steps of faith, persevere through hardship, and hold firm to the belief that "God is God and God is good", no matter the circumstances.

One of the largest mountains for us to climb is the vast amount of information that we're inundated with because we're told this, shown that, and expected to grasp and engage with all the stuff that our hands never even touch. The way that we process this huge sea of information may look totally different and hold a completely different meaning to us than it does from the speaker whose mouth it came from.

This is why engagement within activities such as hunting and fishing becomes so important when you're looking for a reminder. Because the game that we harvest and we sit down at the table, and share with our friends and family, just the same way as countless people have done throughout time, puts us in a place where we stand face to face with a sobering reminder.

Sitting and meditating or journaling on this question may provide a fascinating series of thoughts your way.  Simply because what you find could change the whole direction of your journey. For most of us, this life becomes a trail that doesn't feel as fulfilling as we think it should be. Simply because we are missing out on so many of the things going on around us. To fully connect and be observant of every aspect around us is a challenging thing to do. When you find yourself caught up in the current of life. This is why I'm posing this question to you this morning. This is because I think we have our moments where we question if what we are doing is really what we are meant to be doing.

With the help of my guest Bill Heinrich, we are going to help you explore this very idea and understand what it is you find when you look for it.

When we have to walk the trail of pain and failure, we want to place the blame everywhere else and build a story around it in order to protect ourselves, because it's just simple. Yet the easiest road blocks us from the ability to let things go. It builds the rock that gets thrown in the backpack as we carry ourselves along.

Kinesiology amalgamates Eastern wisdom with Western science to facilitate energetic shifts that allow your body to heal itself from the inside out. Kinesiology works to release accumulated stresses from the body, expanding your awareness, removing limitations and propelling you forwards, allowing you to live your full expression of expansive vitality.

Kinesiology is a non-invasive, safe and holistic healing modality which balances all aspects of the human body, mind and spirit. When the entire being is in balance, the body’s ability to heal itself is activated.

With the help of various balancing techniques, clients are able to increase their healthy perception of self and move into health and wellness from stress, dis-ease and fear. This gives them the ability to function from a place of freedom and choice with stronger, more nourishing relationships with self and others.

Never judge a book by its cover. While this is a timeless piece of advice to live by, it can also become some of the most difficult words to incorporate into our daily lives. Because when passing someone on the side of the street without a second thought, we cover them with our own judgment of who they are and what they must be. And what's worse is we put this instinct into action about everyone and everything around us, including the members of our very own tribe and the supporting cast of our story

As an ordained Minister of Metaphysical Sciences and Spiritual Coach and Teacher,  Tomas will help you connect to yourself and your true purpose in life. He is all about giving you hands-on, practical tools and helping you make sense of spiritual ideas that may seem complex or esoteric. The truth of who you are doesn’t have to be a mystery, and spirituality should be simple and easy to practice.

I have studied and practiced several of the world’s spiritual traditions, including Christianity, shamanism, and Tibetan Buddhism. Tomas has learned that no matter what the ceremony, form, or outward ritual, spirituality presents us all with universal ideas. Everyone can access them if they so choose.

An old familiar call fills the spring windows and brings the dawn of a brand new season of life and growth. But it also represents the final footsteps of another hunting season that was filled with adventure marching its way towards the dormant sea. That sound is of the spring gobbler as it sings its song of relief a reminder to the woodsman calling him to race up his beats and walk forth centering his attention on the present moment he walks. Because without that sense of mindfulness, the hunter can easily miss out on the softest of songs and even the smallest details that could lead him to success.

There are signs that inspired fear within man, yet they weave some of the most beautiful sights in nature. The spider. He walks one of the most misunderstood paths of any being on Earth. For something so small and so fragile to hold such power that its mere presence can push man into a state of fear just by crossing their path shows his wisdom reaches much beyond his small size and stature.

So many metaphors of our behaviors that we use on a daily basis play out in such a significant way within the spider's daily way of life. From the venom which is used to secure their food, you can see just how the words and actions that men can use instantly kill relationships and connections both known and unknown all the way down to the web in which they live weaving fiber after fiber connecting them from branch to branch and from fiber to fiber.

In the same way, that man reaches into the world we've been one connection to the next both within and outside of his very own tribe.

Teaching us to strike a balance between how we go about our interactions and our behaviors, both are reaching out and staying close to home. While there's beauty that lies within our work here on Earth, there's also the venom that we spew that provides protection and signals the behaviors, the accessibilities that we have, that we offer people. We have to be aware of exactly what our behavior shows in order to help us progress. And I think this is why so many of us you're the spider.

On Thursdays, we're each into the bag of questions that I get asked quite often. And I like to pick one or two of the most helpful ones that I come across. And I want to start with one of my favorite quotes going forward with courage, when you are in doubt, be still and wait. When doubt no longer exists within you, then and only then, you find the courage to go forward. So long as the mist envelopes, you remain still. Be still until the sunlight pours through and dispose of the mist as it surely will. Then the act of courage truly commenced. You see, courage is a facet of medicine that lies deep within each and every one of us. I mean, well, yeah, to express courage and bravery is truly an act of wisdom.

And most of the time, we don't even realize that it's really happening. And that holds true with how we transition from stage to stage. And life, really, or even how we experience, really, any given moment. We have this ability to shed layers of ourselves that are no longer fit for the environment in which we live. And that's why.

Just like the wild sunflower is a part of the natural landscape, so too is the man. fashioned from the same soil as each of the world's creations, he, too, fits into the circle of work earth. Just as the buffalo does.

He has granted the same space in which to grow while walking the land. But at some point, the balance shifted. And this shift came about when a man took the power of creation into his own hand. On that day that he removed his hand from the circle of balance, he found a new purpose for those now free hands.

If you take time to talk to the animals, you will know each other. If you do not talk to them, you will not know them. And what you do not know, you fear. What one fears, they destroy. The spider is a great example of the medicine from Chief Don George because seeing a spider instantly inspires fear within the heart which raises the instinct to destroy that spider, to place ourselves on the legs of that spider. The same holds true if you do not take the time to talk with yourself and the world around you. You become uninformed about what is happening, allowing yourself space to build up that level of fear. Within that layer of fear, it opens up a hole internally. And just like the natural order of things, that hole collects dirt from all around it in order to fill itself in. This is true internally as well. Those holes of unknown fear, fill themselves in just the same. The dirt that it uses, more times than not, takes the form of depression and anger, thus building the response to kill that spider. Because we never took the time to look at it and speak with it, leaving that spider crushed underneath the boot of fear. This is what those gaps cause us to do to ourselves. We destroy ourselves and everything around us. We pick up bad habits, and unhealthy things. We look elsewhere, when really the answers are right next to us, simply because we stop taking the time to check in with ourselves in those people around us. We stop tending to the fields that lie internally. Leaving that hole for depression and anger to fill in. So take the time to speak with yourself and those around you. Tend to those fields. Fill in the holes yourself before they do it for you.

There are moments in which we smile just like there are moments that we must cry. All of this comes and goes, the same as the storm blows through the peaks of the mountain inside each of us, these storms, sing to our will to win, just like they sing to our will to lose, bringing with them the thunders of both good and evil. It's these storms that conjure up our will to live and our willingness to run away from life as well. While it's true that we never asked to be born, we came on this journey on the same red road, carrying our path and the purpose that nature gave us, along with the trails that we must walk. So whether it's under the warmth of the sun or the cold, chilly. Moonlit sky of night, we must find it inside to just keep going.

Never in the course of this hunt for destruction does he breathe in that beauty around him. And it causes him one day to finally find himself standing in the surroundings of a desolate and burnt down field, 1s which that fuel for the destruction was that traumatic vocabulary, while in his own eyes, it's believed to be an act of survival on the outside. The truth is, his behavior  was based on the bias in the need to self-protect.  Also, as those traumas build up along our journey, it becomes our task and a need to deeply explore our perception, and ask ourselves questions before we react. Because sometimes survival isn't slowly laying on the edge of the blade. More times than not, true survival lies upon the entire size of the knife.

So they say the sky is the limit but yet look at our feet because they act as if their anchors hold us firmly to the ground along with being born comes this ability to dream. And over the course of the years that we walk across this earth that collection of dreams helps to shape our goals and build this outline of who we truly wish to become.

From one generation to the next the art of storytelling has been passed down. Each one is shaped with lessons and reason.

Where we came from our purpose for being here shaped the stories that elders would tell those who gathered around the campfire.

This amazing art form was used to help the goals each member of their tribe would strive to reach through their lives.

Each individual who sat around the story fire would absorb the reason and morals of these stories with a curious mind.

The storyteller always left each member of their tribe with the power to incorporate these lessons into their own story.

It was this teaching that built a tribe. The lesson still holds true today. Though a story is made up of one theme there are countless stories that make up the book.

As I set out to begin the work that will over time make up the body of work that will become the season number of this project. I can’t help but recall the footsteps that have led me to where I am and shaped me into who I’ve grown into. Often I find myself facing situations or even just looking in the mirror and having to honor those shifts within my spirit. Still I also so must acknowledge what is still the same.

Well, and you are you can only make the music that you can make. Nobody else can do that for you. And it takes all of us making our own music to make a diverse community in a diverse world. And so by singing your song like Cloud did, even though it was sad. 1s You add to everything because he didn't do what everybody else did. He struck out on his own. He created some music himself. He sang what his heart felt. And when we do that, we are true to ourselves and beautiful things begin to happen and life gets magical and unique and we can break away from those should molds and be that.

Page Park is the grief yoga master. who used the power of yoga and breath to help her reconnect with herself.  After years of putting everyone else first, she discovered this through her own yoga journey.  When she added yoga asana (physical practice), meditation, and a gratitude journal things began to shift in her attitude and ability to handle anything that came her way.  Page took these tools and yoga teacher training learned through SoulWork to develop programs to help others.

What most of us don’t understand is the influence that spirituality has on our everyday lives. Especially those who believe they have cast aside their subscription to any of these spiritual teachings and practices. However, spirituality is not just “conversations” with some deity figure, it’s so much more. Whether discussing the constant connection we have with our ancestors who have left this realm of existence, or spirits of the lands (for me this is the Landvætti), or other physical lifeforms (such as plants, animals, and other humans) on a spiritual level. This is where I have been taught that I need to be. Providing my clansmen and women an understanding of the influence of their spiritual connectivity with the realm around them.

Fear is something we face all of the time. Which makes it so important to understand and build a healthy relationship with it. This is what makes this conversation with Desiree Argentina such a relevant one.

Des's background

Growing up as a multi-passionate person, I was always interested in a lot of different things. I loved movies, I loved animals, I loved volunteering; I was passionate about human and animal rights. I didn’t really know how to get where I wanted to go. I didn’t know how to implement the things that I loved until I went to college and was exposed to different classes and clubs. I didn’t know what I wanted to do at first, so I got my associate's degree in general studies but just going to college opened my eyes to a lot of different opportunities and options I didn’t know existed.

About a month or so back Perry reached out to me about being a guest and having this conversation about firearm insurance. Which honestly if you own any sort of firearm and don’t have protection for yourself, now days I think your missing the boat, and it’s something I really think you should look into. Even if your still considering picking up your first firearm of any type.

Perry is one of master minds behind right to bear firearm insurance. And I’ll tell you a lot of the scenarios that we walk through are ones that I feel a lot of don’t consider. When it comes to the responsibly that come with owning a firearm for any reason.

About Right to bear

Right To Bear is an American self-defense association that is dedicated to the preservation of individual liberty, for all freedom-loving people, in the United States, who desire to defend their family with the legal protection necessary, in an era of elites trying to control their lives. He started listening to different types of sounds, and music and after some time he noticed that the only time he does not experience extreme ringing in both ears is when he can listen to various music selections and give himself a respite from the noise. He joined several different subscription sites that have become popular, but none of them were worth the money to him. Either they were far too expensive or had sparse content. By the time he was 9, his family was in poverty and often homeless all while being members of the Mormon Church. At twelve, he was adopted by his grandmother and quickly turned to drugs and alcohol to survive the continuing abuse. Despite multiple learning disabilities and not graduating high school on time, Michael found success in Corporate America in his early twenties

As you walk down the path of life, it's important to remember that you're going to need to seek out inspiration. And one of the best places to look for that inspiration. Inspiration lays in the pages of history, since, after all, we are born to live out a story. It's. One that is filled with ups and downs, beautiful arcs, devastating tragedies. Just like the way that any book or movie is laid out. And where the historic circle figures of the past come into play is the fact that they too have faced each and every one of those beautiful highs and devastating lows. They've overcome all the different obstacles that we will have to face in our lifetime. And therefore, it makes it such an amazing thing that these records, these stories and all these different writings have survived the test of time and now lay at the palm of our hand in so many different forms. Because it gives us the opportunity city to look at each and every one of these people and learn from their beautiful triumphs. As well as taking note of their devastating mistakes. Through all of that, there's this sense of building our roadmap and the things that we are able to do to become much clearer to us. It's like the power ends up back in our very own hands. For me, it became, at the very beginning of my journey, turned back the hands of time, and I started to call on all these different ancient figures. And it's still something that plays a very vital role in my journey today, because I'm able to bond and connect with these figures and they hold an important part in how I plan and I predict the things that I'm going to be up against. But when I explored this avenue, when I first walked down this path of looking into history, For motivation and ideas. I came across the meditations by Marcus Aurelius and some writings by other stoics, but as I've mentioned before, thrown at me in really my darkest day in a very random interview that I heard on a podcast just like this. And the effect that they've had on my life and teaching me and showing me the things that were inside that I never knew were there, came just based off the simple understanding of the logic within the questions that they asked or the philosophy of the mindset that they developed, the way that they walked through and they navigated life and all the different challenges. And it's been my privilege to introduce produce them to you through this podcast. And there are so many different apps. And it's just a matter of the story or the human being that came before us that we connect with that were able to embody the teachings. You know, like I said, for me, it was great. Even great stoic minds like Marcus, Aurelius, Seneca and Epictetus, even Cato and many others, the list goes on and on. Those were the ones that got me through my darkest hours and brought me back from the brink of darkness. And they, too, can do so for you. It's a matter of just picking up a book, turning on an audiobook, and listening, being open and receptive to the ideas and the teachings that they left behind. Because it is a model when you're in those moments where you feel like you're just laying down, waiting for death to grip you easily. There's a simple phrase, sentence, line, anything within some of those writings that have been passed down that will make you realize it's time to stop and stand up and redefine what's going on around you. To redefine yourself is where the wisdom and the power comes from. And that's what these characters throughout history shed a light on. My practice grew. So did my reach, because the project needed to evolve, not only for myself, but as I began Project Mindfully Outdoors. And that's really what all of this sort of stuff is an ongoing project within each and every one of us. So where the base for me, was the print possible? Stoics it then expanded to the philosophies of the men and women of the American frontier. The ones that built what we know and what we call home, because that home 1s was built upon the backwoods. Heroes such as Daniel Boone, Davy Crockett, Elda Leopole, Fred Bear, Sitting Bowl those are just to name a few. And I mentioned these names because it's a way to introduce you, to get you to pick up some of their writings and begin conversation for yourself. Because we've all got to look places, we've got to look inward, we've got to look outward. And we've got to also remember to look backwards and remember those beautiful triumphs, those devastating mistakes, and learn how to find a medium. And it's through those sort of philosophy based practices that we find that medium and we learn how to shape ourselves in a way that cohabitates both our mind and our body, just like the wind across the land. And these are the reasons that all these names and all these philosophies are such a deep root within our camp. Because we're here to explore how the land has been shaped in the history that's made it and how we can apply that to ourselves, to shape ourselves in order to make us.

There seems to this underling theme about how these deeply rooted heal journeys are born. A scenario that is surround by some sort of life changing event. It’s one that leaves us looking for form of shelter. After hunkering down some where to weather the storm. It’s when the winds never stop blowing, and the rains never stop falling. Where the cracks of thunder shake the hills around us, and the lighting strikes the ground next our feet over and over.

As the water begins to climb and is threatening to wash us we away. We are faced with a decision. Do we just accept this is our fate? To be washed away by the midnight storm. Or do we crawl towards higher grown? Saying to ourselves we must push yourself to adapt and find a new way to survive. Knowing that it’s in facing the storm that we can find survival and work towards the life we truly desire.

I think that Lakota story or rebirth articulates not only how we find ourselves when that catastrophic life storm hits, but also how to befriend ourselves and offer ourselves the strength and grace not to give up.

In the story, Mother Nature pits the people of the land against not only the worst winter imaginable. But as spring is ushered in with buckets and buckets of rain, this on top of all the melting snow. Making for a combination that floods the land, so much so that leave them and all of the animals reaching for higher and higher ground.

As the lack of food and conditions take their toll on the tribe more and more people begin to die. Until there is only one woman left. As the stormed finally begin to give way she is overtaken by grief after realizing that everyone including her family were gone.

She found herself drained of the lust for life, just waiting until death would claim her too. That is until one day when she was visit by an Eagle. Who not only nursed her back to health but also inspired her to carry on with her life.

It was the friendship that had been built between the Eagle and this young woman that caused the Eagle to grow feeling of compassion. Which caused him explore how he could contribute more than fish and firewood to this the woman’s species. The Eagles grandfather gave him a choice to make. He could remain an eagle soaring hight through the sky, or become human himself and give to both woman and some much more.

It was a decision that eagle did not make haste-fully. After leaving the woman a few days. He returned to her, stepping out from behind a rock. Now a human man Eagle and the young woman brought forth generation after generation of children who would always look towards the eagle for strength, wisdom, and so much more.

How I feel this serves has an aid for us is really important. Because of the symbolism the eagle provides us. It take finding strength and courage to persevere when things are at their worse. When it feels like you just can’t go on any longer. There’s a force around you that is offering that space to lean into. It’s where that energy can come from to kick start the courage that is hiding inside all of us.

While for the woman of story it took bravery to lean into her initial fear of the Eagle to accept his help. While the story dose not talk about her feelings about the reality she had lost once she found her new stride. I can only imagine she held on to and honored those memories of her old reality.

The the best way I find bring this story in your journey is this way, a disaster that caught you off guard is simple fate and circumstances offering you a gift. That gift is revive your wounded soul. It’s rebirth comes from the environment in which you are standing. Allow the fear your feeling to be the tool in which dig the hole to plant the center root that will feed your soul.

If you scared even still just blink your eyes because the courage you’ll need to draw upon is all around you. It when you couple that courage with the will heal great things are born. Never forget the footsteps that have you here. Pay homage to that past for it is now the just sand underneath your feet. Your feet will plant themselves firmly as you continue to grow.

Returning back to base camp for a chance to sit down with author D.Neil Elliot for episode 196 I was really looking forward to the magic we were about to make.

That is become D and myself have had to dance in the same darkness in order to get to our respective places in life. What makes this conversation so special is how it highlights two different avenues to get to the same place.

D is a much more mechanically based guy. Who really focuses on the nuts and bolts of how things work. Meaning if theirs anyone that going really crawl into that manhole of the darkness it’s D. While is down there he going figure out the most deepest complex aspects of what’s going on.

What I love about his approach is that it he can explain the deeper points of the connection and transform.

On a cold December morning is it to cold to hit the woods to stalk a whitetail. Of course that answer varies depending on who you. The same rings true about everything in the world around us. Along with any task in life the view on it with be different for each of us.

That’s because life is made of perceptions. Which are nothing more than decisions that we make. Yet where this becomes so complicated is because they are influenced by so many different factors. Everything how we were razed to our live experiences all play a roll.

Because they all shape who and what we are. Then when you factor in our value system it becomes a huge mixing bowl we have do our best to sort through in real time. All of which happens through the day in a matter of seconds. So when someone saids they are set in their ways. That’s where it comes from. Good or bad they have become so used to that same pattern of split second decision making they don’t believe anything within that process can change.

But, it can change and be adaptive as you change and grow. Since after all this all about a process of being more aware and in tune. It’s about the learning process to be understanding of yourself and surrounds just as much as the healing

It wasn’t long ago that man lived in way that dependent upon the land for their survival. It was in those days their world was much much smaller, even simpler too. It took no extra thought to live. Family, honor, connection to the land, all of these things went hand and hand with survival.

Of course they had their temptations even then there was no perfect world. Just a collective all working hand and hand. Working in a collective towards a common goal. Making the best of world had to off. It was a case of when you tapped into the those values that nature rewarded you. Fall of the horse and take your time to get back up and risk being rolled by your own wagon.

While the shape of world has definitely changed since then. Where dirt covered paths once navigated by horses. Now are paved roads driven by cars. Where it was once an adventure of journey just to deliver news to a neighbor, as been replaced by cellphones and emails. Taking near seconds instead of hours or days.

It’s within these drastic shifts and improvements to make life so efficient, that so much got lost in translation. The connection with ourselves and the land became different. It feels like a little bit more each day both of those connections get a little more forgotten.

These an old Native American story about a giant. Who walked a land that was so perfectly taylored to his needs had he only been mind of it. It was hunger that in the end consumed him from the inside out. As he fed growing hunger day in and day out without allowing the land time to recover. In the end the land gave out. Being no longer to feed and sustain the giant he died from that very hunger that drove him to forget about that connection to both land and self.

It’s such a beautiful story that can help remind us to be aware of our mindset. The story opens a window of thinking about how we get so caught up in our own needs. Because all those things we are chasing, they take something away from us. It’s a trade of really. Since all of those needs rob us the energy we could be devoting to living our values. The needs they quickly become how we find definition of who we. Sure it starts slowly at first. In fact so slowly that most of the time on the day we wake up feeling our definition of self being feed by acquiring those needs. We look back to realize we never even felt the shift happening.

Then comes that day where we fell off the horse and took our time standing back up. Since the fall took from us our breath. The wagon has rolled over us. Leaving not only working to catch are breath, but covered in tire tracks too. Realizing life has not only grounded us but left us out wack too.

The moral of all this is this, it all boils down to a decision. In a world where we are constantly pushed and pulled you must be mindful of the values and platform you have built to stand upon.

Meditation in the wild can one of most solid ways to build you practice. Just the surrounds their self serve as an invitation to tap in the stillness and peace. Wether it’s sitting along the riverbank just watching the current flow, or sitting up against a tree has the grass rustles in the wind. There’s nothing more calming. Than Mother Nature herself

Connecting to a world where the hours of the clock have no value to the matter at hand. There is not hustle or bustle, no deadlines to meet, or task that must be complete.

In seeing and feeling nature in all its forms and freedoms how can you help but not get lost within its beauty, it’s sheer power.

No matter where you are nature is just a footstep or two away from you at any given moment. Along the riverbank is where I am sitting writing this at this very moment. Which is only fitting because it’s out here where it all came to me.

It was just a few years ago for me when nature truly exposed me to her gifts. It’s still difficult to think that it’s been that long. Yet thats the truth, and to reflect upon how far I am come on this journey. One that I surrendered and begun to allow natural to lead.

Still it’s here sitting on this same rock where nature showed me there was so much more to life than to dwell in its darkness. And this is my hope for you as well. That by walking into her safe hands you too can feel the her pull to help you move along and further the distance between those wounds and yourself.

Give it a try, go out just the intention of just to be and connect with the land. It will build into the meditation that will fuel your progress.

Meditation is one of those words ether turns you on, or it turns you. For myself and my guest in episode 191 Sarah Ariaudo shared the latter of that initial response. While I simply laughed of my counselor’s suggestion. Sarah invited someone to jump off a bridge.

I think it’s a very common response because the stereotypical view of meditation, is something that we can’t see working into our lives. Or another idea that comes to mind is sitting in French specking restaurant trying to order a cheeseburger in English. I can only imagine the eye rolling of the waitress as she try’s to understand what your saying.

Of course become her job duties she is going to try to catch on to what your saying. Which is where again both Sarah and I found a common ground. We both knew that the skills of meditation could be useful in our lives. Which meant we had to work our way through the idea of how we could work it into our worlds.

Which is what makes this conversation such an important one. Because inside of it are two different angles of understanding how we were already doing the mechanics of meditation in our daily lives. From there we discovered how we branch those smaller skills and practices into this much wider aspect that encompassed the over way we live our practices.

I really think you will enjoy this eye opening voyage into just how much the practices of meditation is already a part of your life. While picking up may tools and ideas on how expand your practice.

We're never truly lost. Well, okay, maybe we've been turned around in the woods for a few days, but that's just part of the adventure we're living, right? And it's on those wrong turns, however, that life gets hard. That's why we raised this camp here at Project Nightly Outdoors. And I'm Mike, and I've been there, right where you might be standing right now. Worn down, confused, maybe even a little lost. This is why I'm inviting you to join me here at camp, where we can tap into the wilderness to help heal those wounds that were left behind from those unseen trails. There's a special kind of freedom that lies within the wilderness. So join me now as we tap into that power of freedom, healing and adventure. This is project might be outdoors.

Hey, everybody. Welcome to another episode of project Mindfully outdoors. Thank you for joining me here at camp this morning. Here we are easing into yet another Sunday morning. And I have to say this has probably been one of the most refreshing weekends that I've got to experience and enjoy in some time because they haven't been so caught up in all the transition and trying to move things forward here through the project and through camp that I actually got to get out and really connect this weekend. I got to get out and do some deep meditation and deep fishing, all, of course, on the shores and banks of the almighty here on river. I got to really enjoy a quality day on the water yesterday at my local favorite fishing hole. And really that's all it took. It wasn't about the extravagant wild and crazy adventure. It was just moving in, using into the most basic, familiar aspects of my fishing bathroom and tapping into really one of the most influential, quote influential spaces at that. So while I was out there, I had quite the experience that inspired today's episode. And that's what I want to share with you today. This concept of how getting back to the basics when you're feeling unsteady or maybe drifted a little off course. It's the power of getting back into the basics, tapping into those familiar, safe or even unsafe areas that need to be explored. That magic happens, that things happen, signs come. And as I'm sitting here recording this, I'm still reflecting upon the content that I'm going to share with you in today's episode. So let's get that word from our sponsor and get right back into it. And then we'll gather at the end.

So we hear a project Mindfully outdoors, namely myself, recently joined the 52 Hike Challenge, and I think you should, too. Because just 1 mile a week can change your life. See, here's the thing. We all know a hiking is a key component to this outdoor healing journey that we're on, right? Just that alone makes this the perfect partnership. And it really is something that inspires us to stay on the right track, right? And what happens is, when you sign up, you pick a plan and they set up a system that helps you to meet all the goals that are built around that plan that gets developed. And it's simply the goal of 1 mile a week that's totally doable. They check in with you. They help you to stay on track with motivation and cool prizes to display that you can tell all your friends about. So right now, I'm currently working my way

through the standard challenge. And I'd love to see you visit 52 Hikes.com Projecthike to sign up and join me on this amazing 52 week hike challenge. I'll be waiting at the trail-head for for you.

We all come from somewhere, which means that we carry a history with us that consists of both good and bad memories, along with events, all of which are stored in the pages of our life story. So why run from them? Or why even deny that we live through them? Because the purpose of this healing journey isn't to wash all all of that away from the pages. It's about tapping into all the things that are under the hood. We have to boil down and distill everything to the nuts and bolts to understand how they shaped us. See, the path is something that we walk and we carry within us this mindset and this perception. And it's all shaped by each and every one of those events from the moment that we were born until the moment that we're standing here now. So our job is to break all that down into bite size chunks, morsels that we can use in many different ways as we continue to walk. What are those lessons and events? What is all that trying to teach us? How can we use them to move forward? I think each and every event within our lives in some way or another, serves to anchor us. It's. They all work in this way that seems to pull us back to the ground when our ego has caused us to drift too high or move too far away from our value system. Let's face it, we're all guilty of allowing ourselves to get caught up in those flashy and fancy aspects of life from time to time. When this happens, we set ourselves up to experience that feeling of the sky falling in all around us.

Now, see, over the course of the past few months I've been riding this wave of successful adventures and I really don't even know how to describe it, let alone try to process it. But both the aspirations and the aspects of my personal life that, of all things, I'm trying to achieve just keep falling into place. And it's left me not only challenged to comprehend but also feeling a little lackluster. Almost as if the stride is starting to stop. Because at times we all encounter these moments that it's just too difficult to process. And I feel that's where all of a sudden the balloon gets filled up and we drift too high or stray too far from our values. And when you get to that point, it leaves you feeling not only unbalanced, but just unwilling to charge into some new and unknown waters. Sure, I've swam uncharted water for many years now but that water feels very stagnant on my part. Because I've invested so much time and energy into truly getting to know myself over the past few years, I've now reached a place where I'm able to notice when the sort of imbalance is going on within my soul. So, following a rainy morning, I headed out to reconnect with Mother Nature and do a bit of a combination of fishing and meditation. I had to find a way to get back to the basics, which meant plugging into the wilderness and absorbing that calm in the moment presence for a state of mind. Now, during the first few hours of that trip, I was still unwillingly holding on to those unsteady feelings and thoughts. Then something special and magical happened. Nature gave me a sign that my soul was truly looking for. Within the moment, while reeling in yet another nice size blue gill, something flew overhead that caught my eye. One of the largest cranes that I've ever had the chance to lay eyes on. See, this was nature's way of telling me that I really need to just continue to follow the flow of that gust of wind that I appear to be riding and let go free myself of that feeling of fear and uncertainty, because wherever that trade wind drops me off, that

land is going to be bountiful. And that was represented by the fish that was on the end of my line. While the size of fish I landed after that crane flew overhead was clearly indication, Wherever I land is just another landing point in order to rest and also nourish my body and my soul so I can grow even further, so I can move even stronger and feel more confident within wherever I get picked up and taken to next. That I must own the venture and I must stay rooted within, living to my value system. So this is just an example of exactly what is out there when you're willing to go out and tap into the wilderness. And it also serves as yet another reminder that when you feel stuck, reach into your backpack, pull out those most common basic tools. Because when it's moments like these or you feel off centered getting back to basics is where the message that you need to hear and feel. And most importantly of all, Connect to feel are stored.

Alright, that's it. That's all. That is the end of our Sunday Morning. Now, like I've been saying through this whole episode, It's really all about the simple things. Those are where the money plays. That's where the gravy is made. The moments that are touching in a quick. Anything like that all comes from the basics because those are safe areas. And when you get to that safe area, you get to really tap in and look around. Because you switch out of Survivor, but you create this feeling of all those basic needs. So you get to expand the picture and you do that. It'll help you. So till tomorrow, get out there in the wild. Because that's where the stillness and the adventure lies. See ya.

Hey, guys, it's Mike. Before we break camp and shut this power down to the day to move off into whatever it is that we've got planned, I want to take one final opportunity to not only celebrate this little how well, because it's a team effort, it's you and I working together to forward our lives and build this wonderful, amazing community which is all revolving around projectmindedlyoutdoors.com swing on by. Check out everything that's going on over there. And while you're there, subscribe and sign up to get updates on all the new features. And experiences that are coming your way. So until tomorrow, thank you.

The four points on a compass there are of course four directions. These directions of course indicate which direction we are walking. Which makes the compass such a brilliant aid along our journey. Since our goal is to find our true north and walk that trail to unlock all of life’s true treasures fate has laid out for us.

We say to ourselves that once we have all of those things and we get our life’s journey straight or start traveling our true north, we will never stray from it. Still even along that true path we will always find side trails. For a while we can fight the urge to explore what’s down those game trails. That is until we encounter one with what looks like such an enticing Valley we give in.

We do this even knowing these trails put us at risk of getting turned around. Yet it’s that little voice warning us in the back of mind that we ignore. The temptation pulls us in. Saying to ourselves it’s just a meters. I’ll never get lost because I know what the North Star looks like now, I can find my way back, and off we go navigating that path of risk coated in these old behaviors. Why is that? Why do we this time and time again?

If you picture the other direction marks to represent the process we need to unlock. I believe the secret to putting them truly to rest comes from taking the longer way around.

It starts before you ever take even that first or second step along the norther trail. Durning the planning stages of the hike. Because you can not firmly hold north without knowing the other direction points.

Alining your direction is something you do many times over throughout your life. This orientation is one that places the stick into the ground. This is the collecting of information via of feeling.

Start by turning your body to the western front. This is where roots of all those things we wish to shed lays. Your western front is a difficult one to feel into since it holds all the pain. There for you must know dig into the comment you took when you picked up the walking stick. Reach into backpack as you depart to pull out grace. Since it is here your going to be acknowledging all of traumas. Befriend yourself here, reassure yourself it’s ok.

Next your circle brings you into the south, this is where you shake hands with grief and death. There’s no need to fear those faces however. Since here in the land of the south is where the release begins.

The first hand you shook with that of death. Who’s hand remained extended waiting a gift, in return you be given a gift. The token he is awaiting is a collection of all those experiences you have lived, that left their wounds upon your soul. You see it’s the nature of death to bare and carry all that burden the soul. Once you have paid toll comes the boat ride across the lake. Once you come face to face with grief. It’s within those eyes where you find the flashlight that will lead you back to the circle. With it comes the bucket of release.

With the palm of death left so full there’s nothing left in your to hide from. Which leads to a fork in the trail. Shall you fill that bucket or not? Of course fate is hoping you will. As that bucket is filled cup you hold is the refilled, with the power to celebrate and remember all will help you along.

As this rejuvenates you, there’s the sound of a drum. In the blink of an eye your soul is turned east. The drums and the singing are the sounds of a celebration. Thought you gave so much to the hands of death, you even more. It’s freedom you feel. A freedom of joy. All of those wounds may have left scars, scars you may allows have to carry. It’s the joy that fills you with desire to honor and celebrate every step of the path, whether you remember it or not. Because it was each thing fate touched you with that make you who you are today.

Take your time through every step of the circle because the longer you linger, the strong your stride as you complete the body of the shape. Thus setting out north.

Our world was made based upon stories. Information that was passed down from generation to generation for the purpose of teaching. In this modern area those lessons can be accessed in so many different forms. We consume a vast amount of information everyday. That we must be mindful of where we gather all information from and what we allow to stick with us.

What’s more is that we almost be aware of the other form of storytelling we subjected to. The ones that we tell ourselves. The internal dialogue is one of the most power influences upon our story. It is also a one of the most fragile aspects of the human experience. Because it can be molded and shaped by not only stories we are told but the world around us.

This is why we must change the shape of the stories we feed our mind. Instead of soaking up all the fruitless information that is floating around today's world. Allow the Curiosity of the past and ancient wisdom locked within the sands of time to enrich the stories you tell yourself.

We recently revealed a new graphic that defines the mission of Project Mindfully Outdoors. Maybe you have already seen around, maybe not, ether way it’s quickly become the symbol for which our camp is built upon. It’s the four verticals that we warp the fabric of our teepee around.

It’s these four ideas that not only the project, but also my reality that I’ve built from the grown up. The serve as the way I’m able to find my North Star even on the darkest and stormiest night.

They came to be has a way to celebrate the space that I love so much, the outdoors have become my foundation. Things such as conversation and stewardship which has we have talked about many times are so important in the hunting and fishing space.

They too play a key role in this journey of healing. Because they consist of protecting and rebuilding. Through out the course of time thing came to breaking point. Where man was killing off the animals of the land while also destroying the habits in which they lived. It all came to head when we realized what was happening around us and we made the conscious decision to shift our practices. This was man’s first step forward into the space of education.

By bringing the theory of cause and effect into the wilderness that shift thought us to value protecting the resources of the land. We developed boundaries and best practices. This is where we can adapt the idea of stewardship into our daily life’s.

By understanding that all the stuff we experienced through out our time on earth, has shaped the way we interact with world around. While it’s us that decide how we react to any given stimuli. It’s the act of awareness and educating ourselves of our maladaptive tendencies the inter Stewart can lace their boots up. He or she can be called into action to place a fence or boundary around that situation. There for protecting us from acting in way that could put the larger picture at risk.

Which leads us to the ideas of conservation. It’s in both the spaces where we slip and act upon those ill reaction that the Stewart then picks up the shovel of repair. To act in a way that will show you the error of your way and allow you the grace in which to repair your surroundings and adjust them in way that could prevent any further damage being done.

I recently posed the question to you on our social media feeds, which of these two verticals means the most to you and why? While I’d love to hear your response and even walk through it with you in order to help you to fill understand it. More importantly I invite you to take those two pillars and make them a part of the mission state of your journey.

While we will explore and build those other tent poles on future episodes I feel these two are the gateway to walking the path to its fullest.

Never complete a negative thought. At times it’s only natural to begin them, but you must never finish them. Our minds work in such a way, where it’s the goal of the mind to turn our thoughts into reality.

You must be mindful in any moment of your thoughts and ideas, because these are food for mind. Just how we nourish our bodies with the food we eat. The same is truly with of our thoughts. With nether we would cease to be. Since one or the other would have nothing to convert to energy.

Just how the saying “you are what you eat” was a phase to guide you to eat healthy. The same is true of your thoughts, the thoughts you think make up who you are.

To grow these changes within ourselves we must first give consideration to the thought we allow our mind to eat. This means we build a practice of examining and testing our thoughts. Write them down, speck them out loud, listen to how they sound coming, look at how they appear on the page, all of this will serve us to hone the dialogue we use both inside and out.

Thoughts are like seeds. They settle in and grow, building shoots and touching the course of our lives. There for we must be diligent in converting the soil that is our mind.

Wether you were conscious of it or not, those negative thought have been laying your path. Holding you down and building those wall you feel you believed you could not climb.

To gain that shift in the way you’ve been talking to yourself takes relinquishing your old ways of speech. It takes more than just letting go. Because to only let go is to still just hold on. Believing that you can revisit those maladaptive old habits. No different then to give a dear friend a physical object, thinking you still see and touch it when you visit their house. Up until that day while strolling past the window of a shop, only to see that once priced object for sale in the window.

It’s the moment that when, instead of rushing inside to throw your money down on the counter to reclaim that object. Instead you continue your walk while holding a light smile, that you have relinquished that once priced item. It’s finding the special blessing within that original act that warms your soul. The relinquishment of this old thinking pattern not only warms your heart in the same way, but it makes those obstacles shine down to something you can climb.

While digging through the writing catalog I came across the notes from one of my favorite talks I've given. After reading it again I felt inspired to put together this special Sunday episode for you.

There’s is one cold hard truth that each and everyone of us face, the face that we can not out run death. Seneca often reminds of this. It’s like we are conceived with a terminal disease right, it’s not cancer or some other scary illness that our body’s develop. Those just the conditions that doctors use to describe the final chapters of our story, or what is going to take us out of the game of life. That’s not to say that if you are or ever have to face them you should just laid down and give up. Because you shouldn’t, instead you have to embrace those journeys too. After all it’s how the story goes and our objective is to write the best story we can.

What I’m talking about are the sands of time. We each hold within us an hour glass, we never know just how much sand remains within it. What we do know is that we can’t stop it from running empty, but we also want to make the most of each grain of sand we have.

You think isn’t something that meant to scare you, even cause you to look at the clock. Nor is it meant to push you to start cramming more into your day. Because, probably 90% of that of extra stuff you would be cramming in there wouldn’t mean much of anything. Just the bulk of the stuff we chose to fill our day already.

It’s intend to serve both as reminder and a marker in which you can zero in on what’s important in life and keep you centered in on them. You know some of the greatest changes I’ve made to myself that have lead to the most for filling achievements, and the things I’ve done that most proud of and grateful for. They all happened based upon a question Marcus Aurelius posed to himself,” you fear death because you would no longer be able to do this….”

The really cool part about that question is just how universal it is. You can ask yourself yourself that very question about anything your doing. Not only dose it really put your action in context and help you to decide if what your doing is important to you or not, but will lead you understanding where your values lay. Which most of the time is where the root our troubles are. We are not conducting our transactions of life within the bank of value system. We lose though with our North Star.

For years I spent day in and day in the throes of depression. I allowed that dark hole to shroud my value system. The first step in removing that mask was that one simple question. I fear dying right in this very moment because why, I would be able to mope in depression, nor could I act in a way that served it.

Then when I posed that same question myself when I was engaging in time with kids. The answer was yes, no I’m not ready to trade in this at this very moment because I wouldn’t be able to this. It put my North Star back on the map and gave me a point in which to sail towards. It really truly helped me to understand where I needed to move towards, where to place boundaries, and what I needed to shed.

Look my point is this, life goes by to fast for us to make the most of each moment. We gotta land the plane and get out of auto pilot. In order to find yourself and put yourself out from whatever your hiding under, to just out right lose that feeling of being stuck you gotta take control. You have to find something to put the gears of life into drive. The ignition switch is just as simple as a simple question. One that really puts the stakes on the table.

Episode 182 is probably one of the best examples of one of the most important things we all could be doing more for ourselves. When I’m joined by Bri Tartaglione to explore the story of one of the most moving stories that I’ve had the privilege of walking through.

As the world was meeting the early stages of the pandemic Bri found herself in the hospital like many did. However she found herself meeting a different sort illness. In fact the condition Bri was up against would take away her ability to walk.

Between the time she first started feeling the physical effects the forces of nature where all ready hard at work. Because life was building on of the most difficult obstacles imaginable. The obstacle left Bri at a fork in the road. She could ether just accept her current state, and never walk again. Or she could endure the many challenges placed before her. By committing to a path that would hold many ups and downs along the way. Bri had decided to invest in herself. That investment led her to rebuild herself ground up. Ultimately for her 29th birthday however, she gave herself a birthday gift that she would treasure for the rest of her days. When she took her first steps.

Those steps would prove to be much more than just her physically moving her body for forward. Because they became the spring for Bri to walk into a world from a space that she could do the work of support and service. By applying her real life journey and the wisdom bestowed upon her, she is now helping others to invest in.

You know, it’s a lesson has old as time it’s self tragedy serves to center and bring us back into the moment. Wether life pulls our number leaving us to regroup when it takes something away, or it’s someone we know. It might even come along in the form it as here, meeting someone who has walked through those woods. To remind us just how fragile everything in this world truly are.

You can have something, no matter what it is, only to be taken away at the drop of a hat. Yes it takes a toll on you emotionally, but what other option do you have put to carry on. So you have to ask yourself what dose carrying look like in the face of lost? How you chose to carry on and let it effect you is a decision we are always faced with. Why it’s hard to always remind yourself the glory lays within the investment to walk again with your head up. It’s story’s like this one that was so kind enough to not only share but build upon with by adding what she learned in the end that we can hold close to our hearts and celebrate when it’s time to step up to the tellers window.

I’d like to thank Bri for placing the coin of power in each of our hands that have gathered around the campfire. While we placed the talking stick in her hands in order to forge the token that sitting on our pocket. It is now our job to honor and celebrate the journey by investing that coin into ourselves.

In closing episode 182 with Bri Tartaglione is the sort of interview of time that you have been waiting for. Together we unlocked so many brilliant ideas to think and reflect about. I feel you owe it yourself to give it a listen and take from it the token Bri has to offer you. Use it now or store it away for the rainy day it’s now here for you to take with along your journey.

The story of life isn't a perfect one. And it may be news, but it was never intended to be. The story. It comes with its fair share of ups and downs as it builds toward this beautiful, brilliant story arc. It's full of twists and turns. It's got a plot that leads you one way and then the next. None of that is in your control. So why are you fighting it? Or why are you covering it up with a mask? See, the real question is worth asking yourself right here, right now, is how come you're fighting that current of life?

Not every venture is a successful one….. if we got that trophy fish on every single outing, or we harvested that buck with a rack the would leave us in awe on ever trip. The meaning and thrill of those success would diminish just a little bit more each time, because we would just come to expect it to happen. We just learn to think it’ll be handed to us just for showing up. In the field just like in life we need those adventures that where we come up a little bit short and walk away empty handed back to the truck. It don’t mean we failed instead it just means that today it wasn’t meant to be. The prize the reward we will just have try again to obtain. Don’t beat yourself over it, no matter what it is it that slipped your grasp today. You didn’t have and yesterday n you still don’t have today. Still there’s sometime to be had, there’s something to take away, to get back in the truck and hang your hat on the experience.
