Real Money Real World allows students to make spending choices just like you and I make every day.
- What kind of home should I think about?
- Learn how to make wise budgeting choices for groceries or dinner out, new or used car, etc.
- What is the difference between a want & need?
Students will visit virtual stations where they make choices that spend down their monthly income. The goal is to make wise decisions based on their assigned life circumstance (kids, career, salary etc.).

During this session, Dr. Duncan discussed how to target daily living skills (e.g., hygiene, cooking, cleaning, money management) in order to build independence in adolescence and adulthood. She explained a thorough plan for targeting, practicing, and mastering daily living skills based on the intervention that she has developed for adolescents with autism and their parent/caregiver. Dr. Duncan also offered strategies and resources that have been instrumental in increasing the independence of adolescents at home and in the community.

Jeannie Callahan is a mother of two children with Autism, and her youngest has been a user of AngelSense since 2016. Jeannie started working for AngelSense in 2017, and is currently a Supervisor dealing with Agency and Organizational funding as well as Special Projects.
AngelSense addresses the challenges of safety and independence with assistive technology. We will talk about how the lives of special needs individuals are positively impacted by using AngelSense assistive technology to cope with and overcome the challenges of safety and independence.

- Are the buildings, classrooms, & on campus living arrangements adaptable to students with disabilities?
- Can my child be an off campus student?
- Are there supports for "during class" or "after class" study assistance?

During this session of SALT TEENS & Me, we learned about after high school possibilities and how to apply them to our Roadmap through Transition (IEP). By using an online game called Kahoot.it, we had a fun time answering various quiz questions about employment & post-secondary education followed by a short discussions on this topic. Our goal was to help parents & student think about the after high school options and how to include these goals into in their plan (IEP).

During this session, our Transition Panel answered several questions to help us take a strong look at what is a transition team and who assists our students from age 14 until they transition from high school to adulthood.
We pulled a Transition Team from Warren County who have worked together several times over many years. They will offer helpful information for families so they understand who makes up a Transition Team and how they can apply this information to creating their own team. Even though the panel is from Warren County, many of the same basics can apply to other areas. Families are encouraged to take this information to discuss with their County Board of Developmental Disabilities transition coordinator.
We will discuss how to identify & understand your transition team players.

What Happens When the Bus No Longer Stops?
Transition is a journey. Figuring out what your young adult ( 14-22 years old) will do after he/she leaves school takes planning. In this first SALT Session of the 22-23 school year, Kathy Kleiser, Transition Coordinator with the Greene County Board of Developmental Disabilities will provide an overview of transition including:
- Why transition planning is important?
- What are “transition services”?
- The importance of student involvement in transition planning.
- The key agencies that should be
considered as part of the team.
- Tools that can help with transition planning.
This session is an overview of transition and will help set the base stage for future Salt Sessions.
Everyday parents struggle with creating an effective Roadmap or plan for the future of their children as they transition to high school then onto post high school decisions. We will look at this Roadmap during this session, which will lead to our next session regarding your Transition Team.

Ohio Parent Mentors are parents of children with disabilities who provide free peer-to-peer support to other families of children with disabilities in Ohio. We use our first-hand experiences to work with school officials and guide families to increase the educational success of students who receive special education services.
We help families navigate local and state special education processes and services so that children with disabilities can get the most out of their educational experience.
Together, we can help our students with special needs get the special attention they deserve and find their pathway to educational success.

The Tartan TOPS Program at Sinclair Community College provides an educational/career pathway for part-time students aged 18-24 with IDD. Students completing the pathway will receive an Academic Career Readiness and Training credential. The general education courses taken as part of this program will assist students with developing the skills needed for academic and career success. Students will complete two semesters of internship experiences to prepare them to enter the workforce.

The Transition and Access Program (TAP) at the University of Cincinnati is one of the best college options in the nation for young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. After completing this four-year residential program, students earn a certificate along with gaining life-changing experiences and employment opportunities in inclusive settings. Students live, work, learn and lead on UC’s campus making a bold and positive impact on the Bearcat community.

Dr. Duncan will also discuss strategies and resources that have been instrumental in increasing the independence of adolescents at home and in the community.
