My name is Son of Paper and I’m a 23 year old rapper from San Francisco, CA. Uncle Iroh, is a character in Avatar, who my generation has deemed the most wise and patient mentor ever. I see our world as Prince Zuko like... divided and misguided but with so much goodness trapped inside. I invited my good friend and fellow musician Samantha Margret to talk about concerts, our creative processes, and the social themes behind some of our work. Samantha is a wonderfully talented pop artist who writes music for the girl who wants to own her history, her body, and her feelings.

Grimm AKA Don Frazier is a Bay Area educator as well as a lyrical and visual artist making massive waves in the lives of many including young SOP. Don and his MC partner in crime, Malik, formed a lethal rap duo called Aquarius GrooveMusic in the early 2000’s. Don and Malik were the two most critical mentors for Son of Paper music. Today’s conversation with documentary film makers Josh and Harry Chuck revolves around Chinatown, a 3 x 8 neighborhood that’s nearly as dense as Manhattan!
The Chuck family and I grew up attending Cameron House, which is a non-profit, faith based organization that has served the Chinese American community for nearly a century and a half. In conjunction with the Presbyterian Church, I can easily say that Cameron House programs forever shaped my life and the lives of my guests.
Today, SOP sat down with his favorite history teacher of all time, Chris Martin. Chris founded the Asian-American history course at SFUHS back in 2016 and has been an amazing ally and teacher for many students of color. Chris also put SOP on the hot seat with some Uncle Iroh-like questions.
