Tune in to the Drop Da Biscuit session with The Great Wassie One. Wassie reflects on his south-east London roots and his musical journey playing blues parties, clubs and festivals spinning reggae roots, rockers, rare dubplates, soul, rare groove and cheesy jukebox cuts. After connecting with Brixton Splash and kicking it on radio, Wassie developed into the one-man club dancehall DJ we know today going from strength to strength.

Listen back to my chat with the great Barry Biggs, primarily known for his UK chart hits from 1976 through to 1981. After starting out at JBC as an engineer and cameraman, Barry became the lead singer with Byron Lee’s Dragonaires and Inner Circle and has notched up some notable engineering and production credits that include Bob Marley and a young Barrington Levy among others.

Drop Da Biscuit checks in with sound man, Tudor Lion. Tudor blagged his way into a University of Dub session whilst under age and his love for reggae was born. After linking up with the Channel One crew in 2008, Tudor’s growing enthusiasm for the culture inspired him to book his very first DJ gig despite not having any records of his own. Tudor has worked at Lion Vibes record shop, founded his own sound system Creation Rebel in 2018 and launched his own record label during lockdown. Tune in!

Meet Myrna Hague, Jamaica’s 1st Lady of Jazz. After successfully auditioning for a singing job at a London Supper Club, Myrna’s soon graduated to be a regular on the European theatre circuit. A trip to Jamaica to guest on Charles Hyatt’s show, led to a meeting with Sonny Bradshaw, a link up with Coxsone Dodd at Studio One and recording of the classic ‘Melody Life’ album. The rest as they say is history. Myrna’s contribution to Jamaican music, art and culture is truly colossal. It’s a monster pod, but well worth it. Just tune in!

“Ken McCalla is one of our greatest living artists” – Menelik Shabazz

After leaving Art School, Ken attended the now defunct Black Arts Gallery founded by Shakka Dedi, that empowered him to use art to explore the black British experience and participate in the conversation regarding the role of African diaspora in the UK. Ken talks about the development of Yahw Arts, Sankofa, working on film and theatre sets, occasional house party DJing and the Wandsworth Open House sessions that features Fatima Dupres Griffith’ poetry and Drew Sinclair’s drums.

Meet Keith Harris OBE. Keith’s music career began by booking/managing bands as a Student Ents convenor. He blagged his way into EMI and went on to hold positions at Motown as a plugger, Artist Liaison and GM. Keith has rubbed soldiers with the likes of Smokey Robinson, Marvin Gaye, The Supremes and would eventually become part of Stevie Wonder’s management team at the height of his fame. Keith has also enjoyed stints as MMF Chair, Director of Performer Affairs (PPL) and has written an undergrad music business course module.
