In anticipation of the Lutcher Theater's upcoming season, we're sharing Jason Miller’s interview with Jim Clark who served as director for the Lutcher Theater for the Performing Arts for 28 years before retiring in 2017.
This conversation was featured in the debut season of Bayoulands in 2016.

The 57th annual FIESTA hosted by the Mexican Heritage Society will be held Saturday, September 13th from 9am to 11pm at the Bob Bowers Civic Center in Port Arthur.
The City of Beaumont will host their own celebration VIVA Beaumont! Hispanic Heritage Festival on Sunday, September 14th from 3 to 8PM on Main Street in Downtown Beaumont.

For this Back to Bayoulands BONUS episode, we are sharing a conversation between guest contributor Will Stark and the late artist and visionary architect Charlie Stagg.
Best known for his 'Glass Bottle House' in Vidor, Texas, a domed cathedral built from repurposed bottles, cans, andcement, Stagg was also a drawer, painter, and sculptor who's spiraling DNA-Helix-like works have been displayed in museums and art installations all over the world. This interview was conducted in 2009 prior to Charlie Stagg’sdeath in 2012 and aired for the first time, anywhere, on the Bayoulands radio show in 2016.
Following the interview with Charlie Stagg, is a short discussion between Jason Miller and Lynn Castle, former director of the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, aboutStagg’s work and significance.

Led by the Historic Preservation Officer, Sandra Tetley, the team spoke with Shannon Harris following a session at the Real Places conference hosted by the Texas Historical Commission in early 2019. At the time, the team was working to complete restoration in time for the 50th Anniversary of the first lunar landing.

An interview from guest contributor Gordon Scott Williams with Willie Knighton, a pioneer in Southeast Texas radio. Known by radio listeners as “Willie K,” Knighton was a disc jockey on KJET, a “sunrise to sunset” station that catered to the African American community in the Golden Triangle for more than 20 years. Knighton was also featured in the recent documentary, “They Will Talk About Us: The Charlton-Pollard Story.” Produced by LUTV Productions, the documentary chronicles the origins of the oldest Black neighborhood in Beaumont, Texas.

For this episode, we're sharing a conversation with Sarah Bellian from 2017. At the time, Sarah was the Curator for the Museum of the Gulf Coast in Port Arthur, Texas and had just unveiled a temporary exhibition exploring the underworld of vices in southeast Texas that led to the infamous James Commission in 1961. Although the exhibition is no longer on view, our discussion still offers some insight into a fascinating period in southeast Texas history.

This historical landmark is still an impressive feat of architecture and engineering which endures today crossing the Neches River, linking the cities of Port Neches and Bridge City and serving as a gateway to the county of Orange. For this episode we’re sharing a set of interviews conducted in 2016 by our then assistant producer Jonathan Tippett for a feature on the history and restoration of the Orange Train Depot in Orange, Texas. First up is Jonathan’s conversation with Carrie Woliver, president and Founder of the Friends of the Orange Depot followed by two former Depot employees Robert Mitchell and Juanita Timberlake.

For this episode we're sharing we’re sharing a conversation with local historian Ellen Rienstra about some of the immigrants who first settled southeast Texas including a largely forgotten settlement… the Kishi Colony.
In 1982, an official Texas Historical Marker was dedicated at the site of the Kishi Colony near the intersection of FM 1135 and the Kishi irrigation canal seven miles southeast of Vidor. For this episode, we’re sharing a conversation between guest contributor Will Stark and artist and visionary architect Charlie Stagg. Best known for his 'Glass Bottle House' in Vidor, Texas, a domed cathedral built from repurposed bottles, cans, and cement, Stagg was also a drawer, painter, and sculptor who's spiraling DNA-Helix-like works have been displayed in museums and art installations all over the world. This interview was conducted in 2009 prior to Charlie Stagg’s death in 2012 and aired for the first time, anywhere, on Bayoulands in 2016.
Following the interview with Charlie Stagg, is a short interview Jason M. Miller did with Lynn Castle, Director of the Art Museum of Southeast Texas, which was also featured in the Charlie Stagg segment of Bayoulands in 2016.
