In this episode Owen Interviews Ryan Robertson.

Ryan is the president of Reaching and Teaching - a ministry organization that aims to make mature disciples, establish healthy churches, and train local leaders. Their mission is to advance the gospel worldwide through long-term missionary mobilization, short-term theological training trips, ministry internships, and strategic church partnerships.

In our conversation we got to hear the whole story about how Ryan got to where he is today and the life lessons he learned along the way. The main one which he summarizes his story with is found in Proverbs 16:9. Man plans his ways, but God orders his steps.

Some of the other things we got to talk about as well include finding your calling, challenging each other on our sin, and mentorship.

All sorts of really valuable content for you to listen to on this one.

This is the season 1 finale of The Momentum Podcast. Here we reflect on the past year and a half of our lives which have been some of the most challenging and life-changing so far.

In this episode you'll get to hear

  • How we nearly bought a house three different times
  • How we decided we were ready to start trying for a baby
  • The trials of pregnancy including a trip to urgent care, emerge, and a passed out pregnant wife in Owen's arms
  • Life as first-time parents and some of the lessons we've learned so far

As I'm sure you can tell by the length of this episode, we really took our time with this one.

Thanks for being a listener and tagging along with us in this journey! I really hope you've been encouraged, inspired, and challenged by the stories we've shared this season. It's been an incredible time on our end getting to hear and share these stories with you.

Until next time... Keep building that Momentum!!

In this episode we go over my (Owen's) story. We went over several of the parts of my life that really shaped me including extreme shyness as a kid, national badminton championships, relationships, university, and church.

Some of the main lessons and themes that we pulled out of this one were my own concept of identity, where to find your confidence, what your definition of success is, and there's always a reason for the season.

As always, if you found value in this episode it would mean a lot if you could share it with a friend or on social media. Or even better reach out to us and let us know what you're thinking. We'd love to hear from you and what you've found impactful in our conversations.

In today’s podcast we interview Patrick Galla. Patrick has been the Twenties Pastor and Head of Connections at Hope Bible Church in Oakville for the past 4 years. Over those years I’ve gotten to know him pretty well and that’s what made me so excited for this podcast. Patrick not only has the head knowledge to be a very good Bible Teacher, but that intellect is coupled with an honest love for people. I think you’ll get an idea of that even just listening to this episode.

Some of the topics we cover include why the Gospel frees you to fail, learning how to disagree, understanding different levels of doctrine, and why there are so many denominations of the church.

I hope you enjoy this podcast. If you do, it would be a huge help if you could share it with a friend or post it to social media. That would go a long way in helping us continue to do this. We are committed to giving you as much value as possible and so I hope that’s exactly what you’re getting.

Welcome to episode 9 of the Momentum Podcast! In this episode we interview Kim Stewart. Kim has been a long time friend of Owen's, and throughout the past couple years I’ve been able to catch up with her pretty frequently and God has brought her through quite the story.

Some of the main topics that we cover in today’s episode are guide don’t save, should a Christian date a non-Christian? Finding contentment in singleness, and the power of community.

If any of those topics catch your interest then I invite you to listen in.

It was a blast having Kimbo on the show, and I hope that you’ll enjoy it too right now on the Momentum Podcast.

This is a bonus episode where Owen and Zander reflect on the Momentum Marathon 2021 event!

  • Moments of Serious Momentum: Some of the awesome stories that came out of the weekend.
  • Three life lessons that we drew out from the event.
  • Will there be a Momentum 2022??

All that, and a little about Zander's strange eating habits...

In this episode we interview Adrianna Koning. Adrianna is a wife, a mother, and an online fitness coach where she helps women live a healthy lifestyle and find their worth in Christ alone.

In this conversation we get into the several different roles that Adrianna has had in her life, and throughout each one there was one lesson that kept on coming up and it was surrendering your plans to God.

No matter who you are, I think that you’ll find this conversation very encouraging as we reflect on our stories and God’s faithfulness through it all.

If you're enjoying the show it would be a huge help if you could share us on social media and give us a review on Apple Podcasts. That will go a long way to helping us continue to do this and helping us know that we're on the right track with what you want to hear about!

This is episode number 6 where we interview Jamie Girolametto. Jamie is a husband, a father of three, and the coach of the Redeemer Royals Men’s Basketball Team. In his 9 years coaching for the Royals he has won numerous coach of the year awards and has completely transformed the program from one of the bottom teams in the league to an OCAA powerhouse.

In this episode we really get into Jamie’s coaching philosophy, how he became a coach, and his approach to connecting with his players.

Zander and I both really enjoyed this podcast, and we learned a lot. Jamie has a lot of value to share when it comes to coaching and even family life which we get into at the end.

As always if you enjoy this podcast it would be a huge help if you could share it with a friend, or on social media. That will go a long way to helping us know that we’re on the right track with what you want to hear about.

This is episode number 5 and here we interview Bud Tinney. Aside from being a professional dad joker, and owner of some of the most bowed legs you’ll see, Bud is also owner and coach at CrossFit Cobourg.

Bud has a perspective on Fitness that I would say is very different from the typical one you’ll hear today.

That clearly shows up in his gym and the people at CrossFit Cobourg. If you ever get the chance I would highly recommend that you visit them and you’ll quickly notice a family atmosphere having fun, encouraging each other, and they just so happen to be getting fit along the way.

That really falls in line with Bud’s philosophy that fitness should make you happy and that building muscle and losing fat are byproducts along the way. They’re a great cherry on top - they’re just not the main thing.

As a fellow coach in the industry I’ve really learned a lot from Bud, and I think you will too right here on the Momentum Podcast.

In this episode we interview Ryan Phan. Ryan is currently a student at Calvin Theological Seminary. Ryan has been a good friend of mine for a while now ever since we originally connected through badminton back in high school.

I think that I can safely say that Ryan is one of the most unassuming people you’ll meet, and what I mean by that is that you could hang out with this guy for a month and have no idea what he’s been through.

He has a quiet and humorous personality, but a brief overview of his story shows that he was scouted for division 1 baseball, gets injured, breaks up with a girlfriend, gets heavily involved in gang life, overdoses on pills, and then has a good friend murdered who was in the gang.

How does he get from there to being in his final year of Seminary? I’m going to let him share that with you right now on the Momentum Podcast.

In this episode we interview Alanna Jacobs. Alanna is a registered psychotherapist who specializes in counselling youth and families. Alanna is the eldest sibling to 6 other brothers and sisters which gives her a unique role in her family especially after the passing of both parents at an early age.

If you’ve been following along in our podcast you should know that our co-host Zander has a similar story, and that’s because these two are siblings.

It was fascinating to hear more about their story from a different perspective and to learn about how Alanna and the rest of the family coped with the loss.

In her life story Alanna draws out two main life lessons. 1 is to Hold the Tension. Life isn’t always black and white and there’s often contradicting information that we both believe to be true. How do we hold that tension? Her second life lesson is to acknowledge the pain. Sharing it is difficult, but holding it in can lead to several negative impacts on your life.

If you found value in this podcast it would be a HUGE help if you would subscribe to the channel and share the episode with a friend. That will go a long way towards helping us know if we're on the right track and keeping things going.

Thanks for listening!

On this episode we interview Ryan Kurvits. Ryan is currently a missionary in Chihuahua, Mexico. He was trained at and taught classes at Ethnos Canada which is a Missionary Centre that focuses on reaching the unreached people groups of the world. And of course, Ryan is also Owen’s oldest brother which he admits is his most proud accomplishment.

This episode is a little longer than our first one and yet Ryan focuses in one main life lesson - Throw yourself into what matters the most.

I really think there’s a lot of wisdom in this episode. I know Zander wouldn’t stop talking about it after we finished so I think you’ll enjoy it as well.

Make sure you stick around towards the end of the podcast where we do some giveaways and offer a major discount to the Momentum Marathon.

And as usual if you found value in this episode it would be a huge help if you wrote us a review on Apple Podcasts and shared the episode with a friend. That way we know that what we're saying is what YOU want to hear about.

Thanks!

In this episode we dive into Zander's story. Zander is a co-creator of The Momentum Marathon, an iron man, a construction worker, and owner of Kingdom Training Club where he takes everyday people and helps them prepare for their first triathlon.

We hear what it was like for Zander losing both of his parents at an early age, returning home after a missions trip, and breaking off his engagement. From his story he highlights three main life lessons.

  1. Choose your dependency. Zander argues that relying on yourself is not the best option.

  2. There's no cookie-cutter approach to God's will for your life. He's going to do a unique thing with you.

  3. Get clarity on your own life before adding someone else to the equation.

I hope you enjoy this podcast as much as we did. If you found value in it would you share it? That would be a huge help for us in keeping this going and knowing if we're on the right track.

Thanks!
