Do you feel as if you have an unhealthy relationship with food? In todays podcast we explore some unhealthy habits that might contribute to this.
Having a good relationship with food involves having full and utter permission to eat the foods that make you feel good physically and mentally. No foods are off-limits, and you feel no guilt upon eating foods that are typically labeled “good” or “bad.”
Having a good relationship with food does not come easy, but understanding where your unhealthy relationship comes from can form the foundation for a healthy relationship with food.
Food security is the state of having reliable access to a sufficient quantity of affordable, nutritious food.
Nutrition Security is having access to not only just food to satisfy hunger but access to nutritious food.
In this Podcast we discuss the difference between food and nutrition security and why this is important for us as South Africans.
We often rule out nutrition when it comes to depression and mental health but its a pivotal factor we need to consider.
Sometimes, when people depressed, they eat to help them cope or to make them feel better. Unfortunately, the foods people turn to have the opposite effect. Eating 'bad' foods when you’re depressed can actually make you feel a-lot worse. Some of the worst culprits are foods that contain large amounts of the following:
Sticking to a healthy diet and making sure that you exercise regularly can help you manage your depression symptoms. It may even make them go away entirely.
Fresh fruits and vegetables are some of the healthiest foods you can eat. They’re full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, all of which can improve health.

A lot of men fall prey to the false idea that they should be “tough enough” to fix all their problems on their own. They worry that by showing vulnerability, even in the case of physical illness, they may lose their authority with others.
As a result, they may believe they can fix this problem quickly and move on to the next — and they may be in denial that there is a problem at all. To treat this problem, we must get the message across that it’s OK to ask for help, whether for yourself, your loved ones, or anyone you think may need it.
And for those who have overcome mental health obstacles in their own lives, don’t be afraid to share your own stories. Sometimes reducing stigma means being willing to talk about the times we’ve needed to ask for help ourselves.
In today's episode we tackle mental health. Mental health refers to your emotional and psychological well-being.
I encourage every person to listen to this episode whether or not you struggle with mental health, this Podcast can hopefully help save someones life.
Mental health is such a common thing in our society today and the more we can talk about it the more we can be there for each other and be in unity with one another. None of us were called to be alone, Gen 2:18 The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”
Let us help each other fight this battle together.
In todays episode we discuss an imperative hormone know as Cortisol.
Cortisol is a stress hormone the adrenal glands release. It helps your body deal with stressful situations, as your brain triggers its release through the sympathetic nervous system — the “fight or flight” system — in response to many different kinds of stress
Over time, this can lead to an array of health issues such as weight gain, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, insomnia or difficulty sleeping, mood irregularities, and low energy levels.
Progesterone is a female sex hormone. Its produced mainly in the ovaries following ovulation each month. Its a crucial part of the menstrual cycle and maintenance of pregnancy.
Progesterone helps to regulate your cycle. But its main job is to get your uterus ready for pregnancy.
After ovulation, progesterone helps thicken the lining of the uterus in preparation for the fertilized egg. When the fertilized egg runs out, progesterone levels drop and menstruation begins. Once the fertilized egg is implanted in the uterine wall, progesterone helps maintain the lining of the uterus throughout pregnancy.
Progesterone is required for breast development and breastfeeding. It complements some of the effects of another female hormone, estrogen. It also acts with testosterone, a precursor of adrenal hormones. Men produce small amounts of progesterone to help sperm development.
There are different types of estrogen:
Estrone
This type of estrogen is present in the body after menopause. Weaker form of oestrogen
Estradiol
Both males and females produce estradiol, and it is the most common type of estrogen in females during their reproductive years.
Too much estradiol may result in acne, loss of sex drive, osteoporosis, and depression.
Estriol
Levels of estriol rise during pregnancy, as it helps the uterus grow and prepares the body for delivery. Estriol levels peak just before birth.
Understanding your hormones is an integral part of life, it does not just affect your body, but also hormones help regulate your body's processes, like hunger, blood pressure, and sexual desire.
We will be starting a series on hormones where we talk about all the different hormones and explain what each one does and how to get the most out of your hormones for you to live your life at optimal level. We will be covering some of the most important hormones in this series and I will be releasing a podcast twice a week for the next few weeks of this series.
Testosterone is a hormone that is produced primarily in the testicles for men and the ovaries and adrenal glands for women. This hormone is essential to the development of male growth and masculine characteristics. For women, testosterone comes in much smaller amounts. Testosterone production increases about 30 times more during adolescence and early adulthood. After early adulthood, it’s natural for levels to drop slightly each year.
Testosterone plays a key role in your:
