Time for the third interview in the Food Waste week, and in this interview we are focusing on pricing intelligence. NielsenIQ https://nielseniq.com/global/en/ is a global market research company that has been working within consumer intelligence for several decades, focused on using on providing the best retail and consumer data platform, enabling better innovation, faster delivery, and bolder decision-making. Crunchfish is rescuing food by providing POS rewards, and in order to do that, an intelligent system for pricing goods based on many factors such as best-before-date and delivery date needs to be in place. https://www.crunchfish.com/food-waste/
Anna Ekström works with Intelligent Analytics at NielsenIQ and is specialized in pricing intelligence based on retail market data, developing insights about how pricing of goods can be optimized and identifying how pricing and similar aspects can be used to affect customer behavior. This is interview 30 of 36 in the second season - Cash goes digital, a payment pandemic - out Friday morning at 6 am CET / 10.30 am IST. https://www.crunchfish.com/the-interviews/
We are continuing the interviews about Food Waste and now it’s time to talk about clearing. This is important in order to automatically reward customers at the point of check-out for rescuing food.
ClearOn https://www.clearon.se/, was originally founded by DLF Sweden with the purpose to facilitate coupon management for retailers. Today, ClearOn offers seamless clearing processes, and is a major developer of sales promotion campaigns and retail payment services in Sweden.
One of ClearOn’s key solutions is ClearOnline https://www.clearon.se/…/our…/sales-promotion-tjanster/ , a platform integrated into thousands of grocery stores and connected to their POS systems, with automated processes for clearing of discount coupons and other types of value cheques.
The system can be used by the stores as well as their suppliers to instantly launch in-store price campaigns, promotions and other types of offers. Since Crunchfish’s solution for Food Waste is based on pricing incentives for customers, the ClearOnline platform could be used as an efficient way of achieving this.
Johnny Lönnberg is Sales Director at ClearOn with many years of experience from the FMCG sector. In this interview, we talk about how incentivizing customers can be a major driver towards reducing food waste and we both long for the next physical Clear Event, where bright minds from the Swedish retail industry meet and get inspired.
This is interview 29 of 36 in the second season – Cash goes digital, a payment pandemic – out Wednesday morning at 6 am CET / 10.30 am IST. https://www.crunchfish.com/the-interviews/
This week is all about Food Waste. We start by looking at the data standards supporting the industry. GS1 standardizes the global language for businesses, https://www.gs1.org/. They own and manage for instance the world-wide standard for article numbers, represented by the well-known bar code on every product.
In the future, a new product marking standard GS1 Digital Link https://www.gs1.org/standards/gs1-digital-link contains more information than just the article number. Every single product package may get a unique marking with information such as best-before date, batch number or serial number. Based on this Crunchfish has a patented solution that makes it possible to rescue food by automatically rewarding the consumer at the point of sale for not taking the freshest product on the shelf, thereby reducing food waste as it otherwise might have been scrapped. https://www.crunchfish.com/food-waste/
Staffan Olsson is the longest serving employee at GS1 Sweden, helping clients to get as much as possible out of using GS1 standards. In this interview, Staffan and Joachim Samuelsson talk about circular economies, the ubiquitous bar codes and new GS1 Digital Link standard, and about innovative ways to drive the industry towards sustainability.
This is interview 28 of 36 in the second season – Cash goes digital, a payment pandemic – out Monday morning at 6 am CET / 10.30 am IST. https://www.crunchfish.com/the-interviews/
Do you know that a third of all food produced in the world is thrown away? This is very costly and has a huge negative impact on our planet. Reducing food waste by half before 2030 is one of the United Nations’ sustainability goals. Crunchfish has come up with a great idea that tackles this problem. We rescue food by providing POS rewards to consumers for making environmentally friendly purchase decisions. https://www.crunchfish.com/food-waste/
Next week in our interview series Cash goes digital – a payment pandemic will be all about Food Waste. We will start the week talking to Staffan Olsson from GS1 Sweden https://gs1.se/en/ that owns the QR codes which our solution is based on. Then we will interview Johnny Lönnberg from ClearOn https://www.clearon.se/, the clearing house that handles discounts for customers at the point of sale, and finally we’ll talk to Anna Ekström from NielsenIQ https://nielseniq.com/global/en/, a consumer intelligence company that can help the industry finding the right pricing for the solution. Come join us for this exciting week!

Light affects us in mainly three ways; visually, emotionally and biologically. The visual dimension is the traditional one, affecting what we see and how we are seen. The emotional dimension has to do with how light affects our mood, energy and state of mind. The third dimension focusses on how we are biologically affected by light. More and more people are realizing the potential in using light to enhance alertness, cognitive performance and the sleep/wake cycle.
Niclas Olsson is the CEO of Brainlit https://www.brainlit.com/ – the company with biocentric lighting as a business idea that literally brightens up our days at the office. In this interview, Niclas and Joachim Samuelsson talks about Health as a service, the Brainlit lighting system that we recently installed at our office and how it increases the well-being, creativity as well as the productivity of our team.

Crunchfish’s headquarters is at The Penthouse of Media Evolution City in central Malmö, in the south of Sweden. Here we have been renting the top floor from Wihlborgs since 2013 and created a work environment conducive to creativity.
Hans Andersson was hired by Wihlborgs https://www.wihlborgs.se/ as the Director of Arbetsglädje, translating to Job satisfaction in English. But Job satisfaction is a too narrow description of the Swedish word Arbetsglädje as it also implies pure happiness or joy of working. In this interview we start off talking about Arbetsglädje but venture off into discussing how to design a great office environment and what will offices be in a post-pandemic world.
This interview kicks-off the 9th week with the focus on The Office. Even if the title was inspired by the British TV-series with the same name we argue that any resemblance with the original show is purely accidental. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1qtsLfZWWQ This is interview 25 of 36 in the second season – Cash goes digital, a payment pandemic – out Monday morning at 6 am CET / 10.30 am IST. https://www.crunchfish.com/the-interviews/

This is where Blippit comes in as the world’s first app terminal that links payment apps to cash registers. In many parts of the world, feature phones are still very common and for instance in India, half of the population still use them. Feature phone users have poor support for digital payments. But what if there was a technology that could enable swimmingly easy payments on all these feature phones?
TAISYS Technologies Co., Ltd https://www.taisys.com/index from Taiwan has that technology. Their patented Thin SIM solution is a SIM overlay, a paper-thin electronic strip which is placed over the phones’ SIM card which serves as an additional Secure Element. This ingenious solution has the potential of unlocking mobile payments on every feature phone in the world, offering up a huge market potential.
In this interview, Taisys’ CEO Peter Chen and our CEO Joachim Samuelsson talk about the king-and-queen approach that Taisys uses in their technology, how the technology is a perfect fit for many of many of the areas that Crunchfish is also approaching with our Digital Cash solutions such as CBDC, global financial inclusion, as well as some differences between Sweden and Taiwan.

Mastercard estimates that almost half of all login attempts in 2019 were at high risk for being fraudulent. In such a world, authenticating a user is more crucial than ever https://bit.ly/3pmBb1B . This is especially true for Digital Cash where security is of essence, both from a user perspective and from the PSP’s perspective.
Alessio Mauro is the CEO and founder of neoEYED, Inc., https://www.neoeyed.com/ a global player in Behavioral Biometrics, a technology that enable strong user authentication through analysis of how humans interact with their devices and applications. This technology is centered on probabilistically identifying if the legitimate person is physically present in the interaction. The beauty of Behavioral Biometrics is that it can reside everywhere in the solution and constantly monitor that security is not compromised.
Crunchfish AB and neoEYED recently announced a partnership https://bit.ly/3t1c8n1 in which behavioral biometrics will enhance the security in Crunchfish’s Digital Cash solutions. In this interview, Alessio and Crunchfish’s CEO Joachim Samuelsson talks about neoEYED’s vision of ridding the world from the traditional password, about India where neoEYED is also active, and also about Sicily, where Alessio lives.
Wallet security is key with Digital Cash. V-Key https://www.v-key.com/ is a Singapore-based firm that invented the world’s first virtual secure element. It provides a secure runtime environment within a native iOS or Android mobile app where an offline balance may be stored and cryptographic processes execute in isolation from the unsafe environment of the mobile app. Their excellent virtual secure element V-OS https://bit.ly/3pfGUWZ matches or even improves on the security characteristics of hardware secure elements and is much more scalable as it is a software solution not tied to any specific piece of hardware. V-Key is Crunchfish’s very first Digital Cash Partner https://bit.ly/3qOZaqB.
Joseph Gan is the CEO and co-founder of V-Key and a pioneer in digital security. He started working for Singapore’s Ministry of Defense and realized soon that mobile operating environments were wide open. Here we explore how security can be improved by using a virtual secure element in combination with the hardware Trusted Execution Environment TEE. We conclude in the interview that the required security level is now readily available for Digital Cash.
We heard it from the payment experts - they like Crunchfish’s Digital Cash solutions. We have also verified it with payment professionals having extensive hands-on experience of EMV Card Payments, Real-Time Payments as well as Central Bank Digital Currency. Digital Cash is ubiquitous and important feature for all payment schemes. https://www.crunchfish.com/cash-is-king-of-digital-payments/
Digital Cash provide the same properties as physical cash and will eventually replace it completely. In some markets like Sweden and Norway we have already past the tipping point as most people do not carry cash any longer in their wallets. https://www.crunchfish.com/cash-is-dead-long-live-cash/
This week’s Interviews are focused on Wallet security. A key topic as Digital Cash require an offline balance to protect for double-spending. To enable the required level of trust we rely on our respected Digital Cash Partners’ superior know-how and state-of-the-art technology.
This is the 7th week in the interview series Cash goes digital – a payment pandemic. The episodes will be available on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6 am CET/10.30 am IST on Crunchfish’s website https://www.crunchfish.com/the-interviews/ as well as on our YouTube channel
UL https://www.ul.com/ is all about empowering trust. They solve critical challenges and help innovators around the world to discover new possibilities and deliver what matters – safety, quality, security, sustainability and confidence. Exactly what Crunchfish needs to establish with our Digital Cash solutions.
Shantanu Shirke, Head of Product – Identity Management & Security Practice at UL is an extremely knowledgeable payment expert that Crunchfish has had the benefit of working with to align our terminology and solution with the EMV card rail. This is of paramount importance as this scheme is the global digital payment scheme of the world and used by networks like VISA, Mastercard and American Express. Getting our solution compliant with the EMV we joined the highway for a global roll-out of our Digital Cash.
The mission of eCurrency http://www.ecurrency.net/ is to enable central banks to issue digital currency – CBDC. They have pioneered the world’s only true CBDC solution to securely issue and distribute digital fiat currency by central banks as legal tender alongside notes and coins.
Today on January 19th, Crunchfish and eCurrency announced a partnership https://lnkd.in/gAgaN9f aimed at combining Crunchfish offline settlement with eCurrency’s DSC3 product for CBDC, https://lnkd.in/gyc2TVd. For almost a decade eCurrency has been in dialogue with central banks all over the world on the requirements of CBDC. As offline settlement is a key requirement of central banks we are very excited over this partnership.
In this interview Crunchfish’s CEO Joachim Samuelsson explores how cash can be implemented in digital form with eCurrency’s Chief Security Officer Mitch Cohen, based in Silicon Valley. We compare cryptocurrency to CBDC and discuss why blockchain may not be the right choice for implementing CBDC. https://lnkd.in/g6cyuYk.
This is interview 17 of 36 in the second season – Cash goes digital, a payment pandemic – out Wednesday morning at 6 am CET / 10.30 am IST.
On December 12, 2012 the major banks of Sweden launched Swish https://www.swish.nu/ as a novel real-time payment service. It has become a major success and with 80% penetration being a major explaination of why Sweden use less cash than any other country in the world.
Crunchfish AB has been a partner of Swish for two years. It all started by integrating the app terminal Blippit as bridge between Swish and retail POS and checkout products, exemplified here with an implementation https://lnkd.in/ekkbBXc with the leading Nordic supplier Extenda Retail. Here Crunchfish’s CEO Joachim Samuelsson interviews Magnus Lageson, a key person behind the success of Swish with his multiple roles as Lead Product, Innovation & Partner manager. In addition to confirming the applicability of Crunchfish’s digital cash for Swish as a real-time payment service, the interview became a discussion on the importance of a challenger corporate culture and to remain lean by partnering. Swish is a prime example, being one of the best-known brands of Sweden and transferring millions of transactions a day, with a surprisingly small team of only 18 employees.
Before Christmas, VISA came out with a research paper proposing a two-tier settlement architecture which confirms what Crunchfish has been saying all along for a year. An architecture with offline settlement separate from online settlement makes digital payments truly robust. https://usa.visa.com/visa-everywhere/blog/bdp/2020/12/17/central-bank-digital-1608165518834.html
This week, the three main payment schemes are in focus, card payments, real-time payments and the new Central Bank Digital Currency CBDC scheme. We will explore what payment professionals from each of these schemes think about digital cash solutions and how it complements their digital payment service.
This is the 6th week in the interview series Cash goes digital – a payment pandemic. The episodes will be available on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 6 am CET/10.30 am IST on Crunchfish’s website https://www.crunchfish.com/the-interviews/ as well as on our YouTube channel!
Crunchfish’s revolutionary digital cash solutions with its patent pending two-tier architecture, offline vs. online, may be integrated into all kinds of eWallets regardless of payment scheme – Card rail, Real-Time Payment or Central Bank Digital Currency, for the subsequent online settlement.
In this interview Patrik Centellini, an experienced payments consultant at TietoEVRY https://www.tietoevry.com/, reflects on why the timing is right for Crunchfish to promote this kind of solution.
In addition to all the insights on payments that Patrik brings, he also tell us also about his passion for Italian gelato naturale with his own business Caput Mundi (https://caputmundi.se/) in SoFo, Stockholm. Patrik selected our friends at Pej (https://pej.se/), to provide a payment solution at his gelateria.

Bengt Nilervall is the payments expert of Svensk Handel https://www.svenskhandel.se/ since many years. He is working to promote innovation in the Swedish payments market as he believes this is the best way to provide Swedish merchants with better payment services at competitive rates.
