This episode of the How To Adult Show is a deep dive into the idea that many millionaires pay less tax than the average working person. While many people assume that this is because they're doing something illegal with their taxes, this couldn't be farther from the truth! The 'millionaires' of society follow the same tax code as the rest of us, the difference is they've either taken the time to learn how to use the tax code to their advantage, or they have enough money to hire someone to do this for them. This means they understand how to save thousands of dollars in unnecessary taxes every year, that many of us pay simply because we don't understand how the system works! In today's episode I walk you through the basics of the tax code, and outline the blueprint that everyone can follow to start working towards their own millionaire status, starting with saving money on taxes every year!LEARN MORE FROM THESE EPISODES:- 10 Tax Write Offs That Aren't Just For Entrepreneurs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=speHvgoNK_8&t=393s- How To Use Your RRSP To Pay Less Tax https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5sn-t18lFoQ&t=398s JOIN THE COMMUNITY AND START LEARNING- Learn to track your expenses and spend according to your financial values: https://howtoadultschool.thinkific.com/courses/expense-tracking-course- Website https://howtoadultschool.com/ - Instagram https://www.instagram.com/howtoadultschool/- Tiktok https://www.tiktok.com/@howtoadultschool?lang=en

You're probably feeling like there's a constant struggle between spending your money on things that make life enjoyable, while still saving enough money to prepare for your future. If you're wondering how it's even possible to save money these days without living a monkish existence, I'm going to share the two mindset hacks I used throughout my 20's to save money while still getting to travel, eat out, and generally spend money on things that make life fun and sparkly still. I set some big financial goals for myself during my first 'adult working years', and by the time I was 27 I'd accomplished most of them including buying my first home, working for myself, creating a 12 month emergency fund (so I could keep working for myself!), and creating a healthy retirement investment portfolio in my RRSP and TFSA accounts. I earned a fairly normal salary as a wedding photographer during these years, and I still enjoyed going out and doing fun things during this time in my life instead of living a hermit-like existence in my parents' basement just to save money. When I look back on these years, my financial success came down to two financial mindset practices I used to get my financial ducks in a row. Want to learn how? The truth is, as long as you're saving and investing you're doing the right thing, but in today's episode I'm going to walk you through an overview of what each account is, the key differences between your RRSP and TFSA accounts, and how to decide which account to contribute to if you have limited savings and don't know which account you should use. If there’s anything that being an entrepreneur and self employed through the past year of pandemic life has taught me, it’s that I want to create multiple streams of diversified income and passive income, to have financial freedom and financial security. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, it found me just a few years into running my first business, a successful wedding photography company. I loved my business, but watched almost all my work and income for the year disappear in the span of just a few weeks as people cancelled and postponed their weddings. I decided right away that I needed to generate passive income ideas, and create a diversified income plan to keep this from every happening again. After spending the last year building two new business ventures, and expanding on my first business, I’m going to share my passive income plan for 2021, and how it’s going from the very beginning. I’m at the very beginning of my passive income journey, and am excited to see how it grows!

WHY THE LATTE FACTOR WORKS (IF YOU WANT TO BE A MILLIONAIRE) Have you ever heard of the latte factor? It’s a concept coined by David Bach, one of my favourite financial authors, and appears in his book The Automatic Millionaire. Concepts like the latte factor have taken a lot of flack from the millennial generation, and rightly so as it’s often used to shame millennials for having poor financial habits, often unjustly. THE SECRET TO BUILDING WEALTH WITH THE LEAST EFFORT I know, the title of this episode sounds like one of those too good to be true finance clickbait hooks, but I promise you it’s not! There are so many ways you can build wealth, but the secret to building wealth with little effort? It’s simple really! I have always been an entrepreneur. Ever since I graduated university I have been self employed, and no, I’m not a big risk taker. I’m actually very risk averse, and being self employed seemed to be a very safe option for me as long as I planned ahead, and looked at how to mitigate risk as an entrepreneur. One of the best things I ever did to create job security and income security as an entrepreneur, create a fully funded emergency fund that would cover 1 year’s worth of living expenses if I couldn’t work, or needed to change or pivot my business. Having a large emergency fund bought me time and freedom, two things that a young entrepreneur values highly! Tune in to this episode to learn how you can be self employed AND create your own security net as an entrepreneur. You can do it with the right information and forward planning, and I’m going to walk you through the first steps to take!
