Do you ever wonder why the most successful people are often the most disciplined? Hold that thought because in this week's episode of Epic Entrepreneurs, we're dissecting discipline - the one attribute that distinguishes the good from the great, the mediocre from the epic. Simply Noted has always been about building relationships through meaningful communication. Handwritten notes showcase a personal touch and make you stand out against competitors. Perfection should be at the top spot.
At 25, I found myself in an unexpected position and didn’t know what my next step was going to be when I retired from my professional football career. But I have an ambitious drive that translated perfectly to sales and I also went back to school to study business. It was during one of my classes that my professor revealed handwritten notes have a high open-rate compared to other mediums. Then I utilized this method by sending hundreds of handwritten letters to my current clients and saw just how much it worked. That was the “aha” moment I had to start Simply Noted.

The Warren Restoration Team
Husband and wife owners, Josh and Toni Warren do whatever is necessary to provide the highest-quality service possible. When you suffer property damage — from a fire to a flood from a broken water pipe while you’re out of town — that trauma alone is difficult enough. Dealing with multiple contractors, insurance companies and even emergency responders makes your situation even more difficult. Josh, Toni, and their team understand.
Rather than rely on the demolition of a damaged property, Warren Restoration saves what they can of both the structure and the contents. If a piece of your home or business can be saved, the Warrens do it. This step can go a long way to help with your emotional healing process in the face of devastating loss.
Toni Warren is the customer service side of Warren Restoration. With a degree in International Business and a background in hotel and property management, Toni has worked on the front lines and behind the scenes. She knows what it takes to provide excellent customer service.
Together, the husband-and-wife duo complement each other well. From their three offices — in Big Stone Gap, VA; Hendersonville, NC; and Cape Coral, FL — they cover a wide geographic radius. Their goal is to exceed your expectations always, in the quality of work and the level of customer service. It’s important — because at Warren Restoration, their family name and reputation are on the line.

Brian and Cheryl Stuller started Stuller Power Solutions as an Electrical
Contracting business in 2000. They began with Brian doing small
electrical jobs out of his personal truck, and Cheryl managing the
monetary side. Finally, after much effort and many long days, Brian won
the bid to wire an entire house. The couple hired their first employee,
Artur, that same year. Artur was with them until his passing from cancer in
2019. His skill and loyalty helped make Stuller Power Solutions the
successful company it is today.
In 2013, Brian and Cheryl decided to change the company’s direction and
focus solely on the swiftly growing generator division. They now have
twelve employees experienced in sales, installations, services, and repairs
of Generac Home Standby Generators. Their mission and focus is
dedicated to supporting their talented "work family," and improving their
community through philanthropy.

In one of our businesses that I was involved in that I ran for another family in my early career, we sold industrial supplies and we represented a lot of different manufacturers. And so we had what was known as a line card. And when we'd go call on one of our prospects, we would take them the line card, and the line card would have all the things we sold listed. So for example, I'm going to give you a
little bit about how a line card work. So I've found that a lot of people don't actually understand all the things that we do, and they certainly don't understand all the things that you do. How many of you out there have actually gone into somebody and they said, "Well, I just bought something from XYZ company." You're like, oh, I could have done that. And you missed the sale just because they didn't understand everything that you had available. In this episode, we go over line cards as well as other aspects of a strong marketing plan.

From Josh:
As a director of photography and film production, I am provided with the chance to work intimately with very unique and interesting people. This affords me with the opportunity to not just discover the challenges that I face, but in turn explore both the strengths and weaknesses of those same people who have entrusted me with their ideas & time. As a media strategist, these warm encounters are very important. Through this partnership, creative innovation can flourish and my passion for cutting edge production & development can take form.
I am a great educator, I am also a great listener. I do not strive for perfection, but I find great joy in perfect moments. It is my obligation to capture these moments for others to enjoy.
May I discover these visions in ways I have never imagined."

From Julieta:
I am a mixed media artist. My main mediums are acrylics, watercolors, paper, canvas, and photography. I am creative. I was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina. A magical city full of culture and art. I lived in a few places along the way before finding a wonderful place in the mountains, Asheville, where I decided to make my home. I do everything creative. I believe that being creative is a way of life. I am lucky enough to do what I love every day of my life.
My style is very urban and disruptive, full of color and boldness. In every medium.
I have always loved art. One of my most dear memories is when I was about 7 years old at art class at school in Buenos Aires. I remember in detail all the art supplies, the kiln for ceramics, the tables, the smells. Art fires up my soul, and I feel as a messenger and a message is just coming through me.
Aside from art, I am an avid tennis player, cat lover, and nature adventurer. I love traveling, and finding new adventures. Not all who wander are lost.

How many of you would be willing to chuck a comfortable corporate job so that you could pursue your passion?
On today’s show, we interview Franny Tacy, Owner and CEO of Franny’s Farmacy who shares with us her incredible “Pharma to Farm” life story.
Back in 2017, Franny unknowingly became the first female hemp farmer in North Carolina. Franny has since successfully scaled up her business by adopting a franchise model.

After spending more than a decade in pharmaceutical sales, Franny was seriously disenchanted. And so, she decided to do what any logical person would by purchasing a raw piece of farmland in 2017.
And she started planning hemp even while it was federally illegal to do so.

On today’s show, we interview Danny Reed of Crooked Creek Holler who shares with us his distilled wisdom on entrepreneurship, following your gut instinct, and turning your passion into profit.

What if life threw you a curveball, and you lost everything that you held dear? Would you find the resolve to completely reinvent your life and start all over again?
On today’s show, we interview J. Hackett who shares with us his roller-coaster life story and some of the most important lessons that he has learned along the way. From doing time in prison to running a seven-figure business, Joseph (or Jay) has experienced the highest of highs and the lowest of lows.
Growing up in Philly, Jay was always entrepreneurial by nature. And so, it was hardly surprising that he went on to run multiple businesses which included a restaurant, a publishing company, and a counseling agency.
Joseph’s dream run came to a jarring halt when one of his 150 employees committed fraud – and Joseph had to take the fall for it.
Joseph was sentenced to four years in prison and slapped with $1.5 million in fines.
As Joseph’s life hit an all-time low, he cursed his fate for a while. But slowly, he was able to replace his anger and frustration with renewed resolve and focus.
As a part of the work-release program, Joseph managed to secure employment at Green Opportunities, Western North Carolina's premier job training and placement program.
Recently, bang in the middle of the pandemic, Jay opened his new entrepreneurial venture – Grind, the first black-owned coffee shop in Asheville.
His latest venture is also a co-working space, and Jay calls it “The Black Wall Street”. In this last segment of the show, Jay reveals some interesting information about the forthcoming Grind Festival – a celebration of black business and entrepreneurship.

What are some of the biggest upsides AND downsides of working in a family business?
On today’s show, we interview the incredible Thomas Wolfe of Lobo Builders who shares with his thoughts on entrepreneurship, teamwork, and communication.
Thomas started assisting his dad with his flipping business when he has just 12. And he opted for home-schooling just so that he could learn the ropes of the business.
In 1996, Thomas decided to go out on his own by venturing into the distressed property and acquisition business. Things went well for him, and his business expanded rapidly. But then came the economic crisis of 2008.
When 2008 happened, Thomas had 13 houses in his inventory. Because of the huge losses, Thomas had to go back to his roots – working as an on-site construction worker.
However, in 2011, a persistent lady convinced Thomas to renovate her home in Fairview. And this led to Thomas’s second entrepreneurial venture, Lobo Builders.
Lobo builders has since grown to a team of 12. Comprising both family members and professionals, Lobo Builders has a huge waiting list. And they are completely booked till fall.
In his second innings as an entrepreneur, Thomas is, ironically again working in a family business.
He talks about the importance of creative conflict. And how working in a team has been a learning and humbling experience for him after years of flying solo.

On today’s show, we interview the incredible Leah Wong Ashburn of Highland Brewing who shares with us her wisdom on growth, passion, and entrepreneurship.
Back in 1994, when there were barely any breweries in Asheville, Leah’s dad started making craft beer from a cramped space in the basement. Fast forward to today, Highland Brewing is headquartered in a beautiful 40-acre space amidst the hills.
How did Highland Brewing achieve this dramatic transformation that enabled them to grow manifold since inception?
One of the main themes for today’s show is passion and leadership.
A few years after graduating from college, Leah asked her father if she could work for him. And oddly enough, he refused because he thought that Leah needed to get more experience under her belt.
Finally, in 2011, Leah officially became a part of the Highland family. She started off in a marketing position and slowly learned the different moving parts of the family business.
On today’s show, we have a particularly interesting discussion on how to train your employees the right way so that you can help them develop their technical skills as well as soft skills.

Marketing is a game of persistence.
Most of us are aware of this fact. Yet, we are quick to get bogged down by rejection and throw in the towel way too quickly.
To better illustrate this point, in today’s show, Bill explains how the biblical story, The Secret of the Seed can apply to sales and marketing.

So, if you are feeling frustrated at your inability to connect with your target audience, listening to this short show will surely inspire you and give you that extra “push” to keep the momentum going.’

15-years back, Bill started studying successful people in order to learn their secret “sauce” – which helps them beat the competition time and again with uncanny regularity. Eventually, this led to business coaching & Action Coach.
Currently, at Action Coach, Bill shares how he is helping EPIC entrepreneurs realize their biggest and wildest dreams.
So, what are some critical traits that make an EPIC entrepreneur?
In today’s show, Bill explains this highly effective EPIC framework in simple terms. In his EPIC framework, E is for Education, P is for Planning, I is for Inspiration, and C is for Commitment.
Whether you are a new entrepreneur or an established one, listening to this show will give you some great insights on how to grow yourself and your business to the next level.
