On October 6th, some shit went down on Hamline University's campus. Accusations of Islamophobia resulted in the University firing a professor and bringing extremist speakers to campus. This episode, Divy and Dunc unpack the issues surrounding the case and offer their thoughts and critiques.

Divy and Esther talk with Eunice and Elliott from SCM Ryerson about what decolonizing Christianity means in our lives. We dig into the messy lived experiences of identifying colonial theologies in our churches (Pentecostal, Catholic and Presbyterian), honouring elders who don't always have answers for us, and exploring our cultural and spiritual roots.
This special live episode of Spirits Rising celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Student Christian Movement in Canada. In dialogue with SCM alumni Lois Wilson, Joy Kennedy, HyeRan Kim-Cragg, and Elliott Gunn, we explore a century of radical left Christian student organizing and find a surprising number of common themes across the decades.
Our guests for this episode are Becca Sawyer (she/her), Ontario Director of Community for Generous Space, and Michiko Bown-Kai (they/them), a Program Assistant with Generous Space, as well as a United Church of Canada minister and SCM U of T alumni. Michiko and Becca share their thoughts with us about what life-giving Christian community looks like for LGBTQ2+ folks, what it means to claim space as a Queer Christian leader, and the significance of a "living apology" for religious-based harm.
Divy and Esther talk about life under lockdown, being Student Christian Movement coordinators, and our faith journeys from good Pentecostal and Presbyterian church kids (respectively) to Radical Bible Study leaders.
