Moon Knight Season 1 Recap Welcome to a special edition of the Phases of the Moon Knight podcast. We have covered almost 300 Moon Knight comics since the start of the year, and have searched out and discussed dozens of spoilers, trailers, articles and rumors about the TV show.
So today we will talk about all six episodes. Moon Knight really has been everything that I could have asked for. It has characters we care about, interesting locations, drama, laughs and spectacle. More than that through this entire series has featured a weirdness, a vertigo-inducing sense that something just isn’t entirely right. There’s a lot to unpack here.
This week we discuss, in no particular order: Review what’s made - not what we expected, Listener emails, violence as story and plot, Was this REALLY Moon Knight? And the Adventures of the Scarlett Scarab.
SPOILER WARNING: this episode is pretty much nothing but spoilers, so we recommend waiting to listen until you have watched Moon Knight episode six!

Episode 09
Marc Spector: Moon Knight careens to a deadly finish this week, while Duane gets hit with the full force of 1990s comic craziness. Moon Knight spends four issues lost in space during the Infinity War event, has a fight to the death with his own car, and finds out that he and Jean-Paul (don't call him Frenchie!) are both descended from ancient families of demons and defenders.
Dan celebrates Terry Kavanagh's epic story plan, Duane is thrown off by Steven Platt's oh-so-90s art, and we talk a bit about what it meant to be "Bucky dead" in comics.

Episode 07 Moon Knight in the 90s!
After the untimely end of Moon Knight vol 2 our hero took a few years off to hang out in California with the West Coast Avengers. We join up with him again in 1989 as he returns to New York and is rejoined by old friends (and old enemies) in Marc Spector: Moon Knight. Duane tries to keep up with all the new characters as Black Cat, Silver Sable, the Punisher and others cross paths with Moon Knight, and we talk about legacy villains, "The Trial of Marc Spector" and a spectacular new Empire magazine cover by Bill Sienkiewicz!
The Stack for this week includes:
Marc Spector: Moon Knight Vol. 1, Issues #1 - #21
Sadly, these comics are not currently available either on Marvel Unlimited or in collected print editions, with the exception of #8 and #9, which are on Marvel Unlimited as part of the Acts of Vengeance event.

Episode 06 The Sage of Arthur Harrow
About a year after the end of Moon Knight Vol. 1. our hero got a second chance to headline his own series. Moon Knight Volume 2 from 1985 changes the character's powers and costume, and radically alters his world. The second issue of the series is also the first - and so far the only - appearance of Dr. Arthur Harrow. With Harrow set to be a major character in the Moon Knight Disney+ show, Dan and Duane give you a better idea of what clues these comics may hold for the show.
We also talk about what breakdowns and finishes are, we look at a few issues of Marvel Fanfare that featured Moon Knight, and Dan begins to suspect that Disney perhaps is not being entirely truthful with us about Ethan Hawke's character...
The Stack for this week includes:
Moon Knight Vol. 2, Issues #1-6 Marvel Fanfare #30, 38 and 39
Sadly, these comics are not currently available either on Marvel Unlimited or in collected print editions.

Episode 05 Moon Knight After Moench and Sienkiewicz
This week we are going to dig into the final issues of Moon Knight Volume 1, which were published in 1983 and 1984. This week sees both Bill Sienkiewicz and Doug Moench move on from the title, after which a rotating cast of writers and artists bring Moon Knight’s first volume to a close.
Our hero faces off against bad cops, teen hoodlums, and a homicidal teenage ballerina, and then flies off into the sunset (temporarily) as volume one winds down. Along the way we talk about team-ups, EC Comics, and what it means when a comic you enjoy is cancelled.
The Stack for this week includes:
Moon Knight Vol. 1, Issues #27-38
These comics are available online through Marvel Unlimited as well as in collected print editions.

Episode 04 Direct Market Madness!
This week we are going to dig into the middle issues of Moon Knight Volume 1, which were published in 1981-1982. Moon Knight defeats a guy dressed as a rat, Marlene becomes a bikini-clad bodyguard to a terrorist leader, and Morpheus and Scarlet return. We also talk about the Khonshu-themed backups and ponder why Moon Knight's villains are so prone to lethal accidents. Along the way Duane lets on that he really, really dislikes issues #17-20, and Dan tells us why he thinks that issue #26 is one of the best Moon Knight stories ever printed.
The Stack for this week includes:
Moon Knight Vol. 1, Issues #15 - 26
These comics are available online through Marvel Unlimited as well as in collected print editions.

Episode 03 The First Trailer
Dan and Duane take a few minutes off from talking about Moon Knight's past, and instead focus on the future. We talk about what's in the new footage, what isn't there, and where we think they may be going with all this. There are a lot of things that are not exactly clear, but we agree that it looks spectacular! March 30th can't get here soon enough!!

Episode 03 Gods and Villains!
We dig into the first Moon Knight solo series from 1980 this week, and Duane has questions. He isn't sure about Moon Knight's new Egyptian resurrection origin story, and Dan also has to work to convince him that despite the fact that Moon Knight is a billionaire playboy with issues and a cape, he is NOT just Marvel's version of B**man. We discuss key takeaways from these formative early issues, and get ready for the first Moon Knight trailer, which releases this week.
