Hello to all my fellow splinterpeeps and welcome to my vlog! This season we again had some major changes to the ranked system in Splinterlands and I would like to share my experience and opinion with you guys. Oh, and check out my new mug! Let's see if I can make a #threespeak one next...

While the SPS airdrops are about to fade out, the ranked system performed a mitosis into two ranked reward pools we can now compete in.

  • Wild: Same as the old ranked
  • Modern: Only Untamed and newer cards. Lower CP requirement

Turns out the DEC rewards in modern are significantly higher than wild which allows a lot of players to rent pretty much fully leveled decks and leads to a very tough competition. As I don't want to deplete my ECR for a little bit of extra DEC, I stay in wild for most of the time, which is already quite hard for me, beeing amongst the top players on the leaderboard. Otherwise it would be smart to play modern with DEC earnings beeing about 10x higher.

I guess the main idea behind this change was to give new players a playing field without the need to compete with the very expensive OG cards. I'm not sure if this worked out as intended.

Owners of Untamed cards should really check the rental market right now. Even some of the common and rare ones are worth 5-10 DEC / day, so it became flipping expensive to rent a deck for the modern ladder. On the other hand CL cards are dirt cheap, so that might compensate for it. If the meta indeed allows you to win decent games with CL only cards, your return should be pretty massive! Otherwise I see the high rental costs eating up your additional earnings.

After my rental failed and le me finishing in gold league last season, I'm now earning gold chests for this season. I don't have the numbers on season chests, but I managed to earn the same amount of gold chests (in average value) with the same or even less effort, so earning gold chests while playing in silver might actually be a viable strategy. I expected the gold chests to be more than double the RP, but seems like that is not the case.

With the focus chests this would actually be a completely different story, as those require more than three times the amount of RP to unlock. Luckily the focus chest tier is determined by your current league.

Another big change that just happened are the new focus themes. Now you earn reward points (RP) for every win, and your focus only applies a 10% bonus per focus card used. I haven't had much time to test this though, so maybe that's a topic for another video. First impression is not too positive though, as it doesn't really feel like there is a focus anymore at all. Not that this is particularly bad, it's just very different to what we had for quite a few years now.

See you and thanks for stopping by! Everyone who is picking up this game right now should have a pretty nice experience, although competition has been pretty tough lately.

I can see the devs are doing a lot to keep the game on the right tracks and I'm excited to see the untamed cards that I was able to collect beeing appreciated. Playing on my smurfs feels pretty unrewarding, so apparently the measures do work on actual players. I'm still seeing a lot accounts that appear to be bots though, so if those changes also affect their actual target, I'm not 100% sure. Time will tell...

Hello to all my fellow splinterpeeps and welcome to my blog! This season we had some major changes to the reward system in Splinterlands and I would like to share my experience and opinion with you guys. Lots of battles and lots of chest openings happened this time, so step in and let me show you how the last season went!

Pack Opening Service It seems like everybody's doing spl giveaways now and I would like to offer something unique to you guys! So, I've been thinking about this for a while now and I need some input to see if it's just a crackpot idea or if people would actually be interested in such a thing.

As you sure know, everyone is receiving those lotions from reward chests that are consumed at pack openings to double your chances for a goldfoil or legendary card. Most people might be annoyed by them, but if you start opening some packs, they get consumed quite fast and you may have to spend some money to buy more of 'em, which can become quite costly. Right now a set of lotion for one pack cost $.45, which is about 10-15 % of the pack value, but you definitely don't want to miss out on the increased chance for shiny leggo.

As I'm not opening up many packs and are not planning on doing large numbers in the forseable future, I figured I might as well help others out with my stack of lotions that have been piling up since Untamed ran out. As they are not transferable and I can't give them away like any other asset, one would have to send me the packs and I would open them in a weekly video or something and then send the cards back to the owner.

Let me know if anybody was interested, so I can maybe incorporate it into my giveaways!

Rewards Rework I gotta admit, the past months strolling the Splinterlands was not the most exctiting time. I started two additional accounts because I was sick of watching the bots leeching all the rewards and the only rewarding aspect of the game were the season chests and to some extend the daily chests. On my main I was hovering around silver 2 and my smurfs were able to reach silver towards the end of the season, sometimes after playing up to 100 games.

Not only was this not really exciting for me, it's also not a healthy behaviour for the game economy.

So I was quite thrilled when the massive change to the reward system was announced:

Plans for the new rewards system As you may know, the dev team has rolled out major changes to the reward system at the start of the expiring season. Beeing strongly against the laissez-fair attitude towards the bots, this was exciting news for me. Will it solve the entire issue with botting and funneling assets to botfarms? We'll see soon!

But this change doesn't affect bots exclusively. Actually the average player like me also had to adapt to this situation.

For the past seasons I've been distributing my CP between 3 accounts. At first because the DEC rewards were insanely good and the ECR of one account was not enough to satisfy my gaming needs.

With rewards constantly losing value to the point where playing was nothing but a necessity to climb into silver or finish the daily quests for at least some rewards, it made even more sense to split my CP for a total of 8 daily chests and 39 EOS chests, compared to the 6 and 22 for beeing in gold. Additionally I would have to miss out on the rental income from my GF leggo card, which is pretty much equivalent to what I could earn in gold but with very little effort. And I'm not even talking about the crazy EOS income I get for staying in silver. This is obviously not how it's supposed to be and I'm happy to finally see some change.

With the new reward system, I changed my approach trastically. Playing my smurfs like I did before would not make any more sense. I still rely a lot on the starter cards, which will not count towards the rewards anymore. But more importantly the winrate is now impacting your earnings. Sometimes I needed 100 games to reach silver as it's pretty much a coinflip, this will not be viable anymore as it depletes the ECR, which factors into the reward formula.

As I'm quite short on liquidity, it's kinda hard for me to build strong decks from scratch.

Luckily I was able to build up my main account to a point where I'm somewhat competitive in silver with water and earth splinters.

The FIRST SEASON summary First day of season was rough. I needed 100 rating to reach silver, but it took me about 20 games to achieve it. Generally I felt like this season was a lot more competetive, which very well might have been related to the fact that my rating was probably way higher than it used to be, as a result of the addictive nature of the new reward system and the increased amount of games played.

One day my ECR dropped into the 50% region but unlocked a whopping 15 daily chests alone! Even if I played all 3 accounts I could only have made a total of 8 daily chests before! (Silver chests should have pretty much the same value as before)

My usual loot for a day from casual playing adds up to around 10 treasure chests, unless I get a really bad focus splinter. Just 3 games are enough to unlock 4 chests, which means less work with the reworked system AND I'm free to continue playing for a lot more rewards. LOVING IT!

Here's the return from one season:

What about Smurf accounts? Like mentioned before, I removed all delegations to my smurf accounts as it makes zero sense playing on a second account unless my ECR goes way low.

Realizing how cheap the rentals are and beeing curious about how the game feels for new players, I decided to go on a mission and test it anyways. For science and such.

Not having played this account last season, I stared at a pathetic 100 rating. The daily focus turned out to be water, so I went to the rental market and spent a total of 14 CREDITS on a Lir, Kelya lvl 2, Crustacean King, Deeplurker lvl 3 and Sea Monster lvl 3.

I could have probably rented all the starter cards for another 2 credits and make my life a lot easier, but stuck to the few cards I already have and managed to earn half a focus and half a season chest in about 20 games (roughly 10 RP per win).

At around 300 rating I noticed the RP going up to 25, 48, 64, 78, quickly unlocking my first chests. After 30 games I already earned a total of 5 bronze chests, receiving about 200 RP per win (without alpha and gf bonuses) which went up to over 1k RP by the end of the 24h. Also the battles felt a lot easier once I got out of elo hell.

With an estimated chest value of 3.3 cents (according to splintercards.com) and rental fees of 1.4 cents, this seems to be a no-brainer. My CP is over 5k with the cards I earned during the past months and the rentals, so I can easily play in bronze I without renting additional power.

Obviously I need some DEC or CREDITS in my chests to sustain the rentals, but I think it's safe to say that a new player should have no problem sustaining their account without spending more than the Spellbook cost.

Results one day of playing in bronze (day before EOS):

Rental Cost: $0.014

Games: 51

Wins: 40

Chests: 38

Approximate Value: $1.21

Actual Value: $1.69

I would call this a really nice ROI! The epic pulls were quite lucky, but plenty of funds to rent for the next season plus a lot of usefull cards to build up my deck.

See you and thanks for stopping by! Everyone who is picking up this game right now should have a pretty incredible experience.

The devs might implement some changes to the focus soon which affect the rental approach that I used for my bronze account, but overall the changes turned out to be pretty awesome! If I get too bored, I can even play on two accounts, as long as the rental market is so generous.

I will also start some hive-games related giveaways at least once per season so long as I can fill up that wheel with interesting stuff, so stay around!

In this weekly challenge we're taking a look at the cheapest of all chaos legion cards, the little bone-haired elephant crow. For every splinter there is a 1 mana card in the new booster series just like there has been with the older sets, but I can't help my lack of excitement as the new cards are a lot less interesting. Sure the Cursed Slimeball has nothing on Carrion Shade, and yes, Flame Monkey is hardly any better, but all remaining 1 mana cards either have a usefull ability from lvl 1 on, or they can attack from the backline. Albatross with the annoying flying ability, Silvershield Bard with the cleanse, Brownie with the speed buff, hell even Shadowy Presence is a rather beefy tank! The new 1 mana cards on the other hand are all melee and too slow to attack in a frontline position before they get taken out, which makes them nothing more than a meatshield in most cases.

Stats Here's the stat-sheet on the little birdy. Most level-ups are not really helpfull, as they don't increase the stats in any way.

At level 3 it actually becomes a real bird and learns to fly, something a Flying Squid will never achieve, but this will also be the only ability for the little fella. This makes it kinda usefull for earthquake matches and also increases the dodge chance, which is really annoying on a meatshield. But that also means this ability will not be available to a lot of the lower league players that can't afford a level 2 summoner.

Ruleset As I don't play this card a lot, I only found two matches with this particular monster and one of them was a loss for me. As a death VS death match I figured it would be the most interesting, though.

The equal opportunity infuses some purpose into an otherwise rather dull and uninspiring meatshield. Unfortunately same applies to the enemy and at 2 HP its rank in the food chain is rather low.

Lineup

With thorns and the magic debuff from Thaddius, this tank is a no-brainer most of the time, especially in low mana matches.

Followed by my favorite in opportunity matches, a low HP shield monster to catch all those sneaky attacks. Unfortunately it didn't work out quite as well, as the shield is useless against magic attacks.

In many games you end up with 1 mana missing towards the mana cap, especially when beeing limited to even or odd cards. Back in the days there were little to no starter cards with 1 mana, but now you get one for each splinter - Carrion Shade beeing the death one. As they come free with the starter deck, they are all common and not particularly spectacular.

In this case it made sense to put in the 1 damage melee card, as it gets blessed with the opportunity ability.

Not an amazing card either, but can take out high value targets with the sneak ability. It's a bit of a gamble, but attacks fast.

Although very risky against the health debuff from Thaddius, the life leech makes this card very valuable in low mana matchups. I put it in the middle to give it a little bit of protection from sneak attacks.

One of the old 1 mana cards with no combat stats but a nice speed debuff on the enemy team. Increases your first strike chance and the dodge chance, unless you are in a reverse speed match.

Was used left and right until the game was flooded with chaos legion bots...

Battle recap The first battle is a sad loss for me. As it is played on my smurf account, I don't have the most epic cards. I start by taking out 3 of his cards, but at some point the game turns around and my tank goes down, while his survives the whole match. Most likely because his Windeku was already enraged at its first attack, due to the lower speed and later was granted the first strike in round 2. Like mentioned before the Carrion Shade is a good choice in this kind of ruleset, because it makes use of the attack, even though it's not in first position.

One again a chaos legion card was chosen for the challenge and a really good one on top - indeed.

This card can be treated as the replacement for the out-of-print Wood Nymph from the old rewards series, although the general stats have been altered with quite significantly.

Last time I mentioned how water splinter used to be the magic cheese with Alric as summoner and full magic lineups, but with Alric beeing scarce and a new magic buff summoner named Obsidian beeing readily available, we see a lot of magic cheese lineups in the earth splinter these days which fits that high damage healer pretty well.

Stats Here's the stat-sheet on the chubby goblin. Starting from level 1 it's already a pretty strong card with 2 magic damage and the heal ability which get's balanced by a 6 mana cost and only 3 hitpoints. Contrary to most other cards the low speed of 1 is very beneficial for a healer, as the heal is less likely to be wasted when your monster have not taken damage early in the round.

At higher levels the card becomes a little bit more tanky, which is definitely helping against snipe and opportunity, but the most significant level-ups include incredibly usefull abilities like affliction, which is the counter to the card itself, and silence which is also a very strong and valuable counter against the current earth meta.

At a moderate .25$ a piece, it seems like a pretty reasonable purchase right now. Beeing part of the starter deck makes it a little less interesting though, unless you can afford the summoners for a higher level card.

Ruleset To show you how strong this card actually is, I decided to take a different approach and chose a failed attempt at countering it with an anti magic combo.

Keep in mind that the equalizer rule is somewhat of a soft counter to magic reflect.

Lineup

The perfect way to stop the magic cheese is to beat it at it's own game. At least that's what I thought when I chose Owster Rotwell as my summoner.

To inflict additional pain, the Bone Golem with the magic shield is the perfect frontline in this case. Also benefits quite a lot from the equalizer ruleset.

Generally a risky choice, as it is pretty much the weakest of all starter tanks with its low speed and only 6 HP. Even if it workds kinda well against magic, the chance of missing faster tanks like the Unicorn Mustang or Serpent of Eld is pretty high. Even Living Lava is a strong counter with the shield ability.

Maybe not the best choice in this match, but the Haunted Spirit's heal synergizes pretty well with the equalizer. It's also quite interesting to whip out some of the older cards from time to time and see how they do in the current meta...

Silent Sha-Vi is one of the stable cards in the new starter deck. It's not as good as the fire counterpart but played a lot when Tarsa is on time-out.

The idea is to take out the Goblin Psychic to stop the healing, but with equalizer rulesets the plan is not working as intended. Generally also pretty risky with cards like Regal Peryton that can soak up plenty of sneak and snipe attacks.

Gargoya Devil is one of the cards that don't look very appealing but get played regularly because it beneftis a lot from 99 mana and equalizer rulesets in particular. At least on my accounts that don't have plenty of high mana cards to choose from. The flying ability is kinda useless against magic teams but it can attack from front position while serving as a tank, if shit hits the fan.

The equalizer gave it a whopping 7 additional hitpoints, which would have been crazy good against most other matchups, but there is no chance of dodging against magic.

3 damage helps when you need to cut through a lot of HP and it's guaranteed to hit the Unicorn Mustang and Regal Peryton, which is critical against cards that get a big heal every round.

Another attempt to match the damage from the Obsidian buff. And maybe a little bit of nostalgia.

Matches The first match shows how bots sometimes mess up the broken earth combo in certain rulesets. Even the powerfull Goblin Psychic can't keep your tanks alive if you don't spread out the damage.

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_d85ed6c4ea852013b1a663675c358dc0&ref=definitelynotbot

Here is the match that shows how even magic counters might not stand a chance against the powerfull earth meta. This time I get messed up pretty bad, even though I played a magic counter. The value of heal scales incredibly well with HP and in equalizer games you can expect to have plenty of that.

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_c67b8d44cee5cf4a1133b3ec26e3baaf&ref=exator

And last some 1 on 1 with the Wood Nymph. The most obvious advantage of the Wood Nymph is the lower mana cost. Not only does it enable her to be played in little league rulesets, it also allows you to play an addidional 2 mana card, which results in more damage and hitpoints. On the flipside she is not very useful when magic shields come into play, especially when combined with silence.

https://splinterlands.com?p=battle&id=sl_1471cfe8ccfecbb323b0cba48c7c5dfe&ref=definitelynotbot

Overall I'm a big fan of the Goblin Psychic and hate playing against it. Especially in bronze and silver league the healing ability is incredibly strong with the lack of proper countermeasures like affliction, which is only available through leveled up or rather expensive cards.

Spin the wheel! Like mentioned before I will try and run a weekly spin on the wheel to pick some nice hive-games assets for you guys to win. Another season, another loot chest opening.

I have three acccounts by now. One ended in silver II and two are in silver III, which means a total of... a lot loot chests!

On top of that I also open the second chaos legion booster pack that I received from daily quests.

My plan is to add at least a weekly giveaway to my videos, so if I pull some good cards that are not already in the starter pack, you might be the future owner!

Hello to all my fellow splinterpeeps and a big thank you for stopping by! Today it's time again for the weekly splinterlands challenge, hosted by the awesome team behind @splinterlands. No matter if you are an artist, social media influencer or just enjoy playing the game, they host all kinds of challenges here on hive, which give you a chance to get a nice curation from the community. Make sure to check them out and start earning on the hive blockchain!

In this weekly challenge we have to make use of the new Lava Spider card from the latest Chaos Legion booster series. This card can be treated as the replacement for the out-of-print Fire Beetle from the alpha/beta series, as it features exactly the same stats. Originally the card came with 2 attack, but got nerfed to 1 damage right before release, as it would have been a bronze stomper with Yodin Zaku.

If you are a new player - or for some reason limited to the starter cards that come with the spellbook - and faced the daily snipe quest already, you might have realized that there aren't many snipe cards to your disposal. In fact the starter deck contains one single snipe card for every splinter, except the dragon one, which has no monsters at all.

Stats Here's the stat-sheet on the little spider. For most of us it will just be a 1 attack sniper with a decent amount of hp. Nothing fancy.

At higher levels it starts to counter flying type cards, which is nice against annoying high speed monsters like the Spark Pixies, or Regal Peryton, I reckon.

Ruleset As the Lava Spider's snipe ability perfectly fits todays snipe quest, I decided to challenge myself even more and do my entire daily quest with the lava spider. It took me over half an hour but it was fun recording a video for you!

Let's look at the final battle, which was my most favorite one. It had the following ruleset:

Lineup

The summoner of choice, like all fire games, was Tarsa. Pyre would allow me to play higher level monsters, but I found the stats buffs from Tarsa way better than those I'd gain from higher level cards, so I'd rather delegate him.

Living Lava is pretty much the meta tank in the fire splinter and has been for quite a while now. It is vulnerable to magic damage, but most of the alternative fire tanks do not have an edge on it.

Fineas Rage: The perfect backline tank with the reach ability. If Lava goes down, there's another 5 speed tank to protect your backline. As it's not in the new starter deck, Radiated Brute would be the alternative here.

Tenyii Striker is one of the new cards that is now pretty much a stable in every fire game. Well rounded stats with 3 attack from the summoner buff and 6 HP, which makes it pretty tanky, too.

Definitely 5 mana well invested.

The Serpentine Spy has also been a stable in pretty much every fire team since I started playing the game.

Hits fast, hits hard and hits the MVPs, ideally.

Here is the star of todays match. Not because it did well, but because it is the protagonist in our challenge and we needed to carry his lava-spewing butt through the snipe quest somehow.

Unfortunately I did not get the most fitting matches for this card to do it justice. With 3 mana and 5 HP, it would be much more useful in something like a little league match.

The Zaku owners do love this card, as it synergizes really well with the blast and ranged boost, but sadly I do not own said card. Yet.

The hidden MVP in the background. I expected some sneak attacks from my opponent and wanted to protect my backline with some shield. Turned out to be the perfect decision, as I faced not only one but two sneak cards. They stood no chance against the buff serpent with the pointy stick.

The game ended in an easy win and a finished quest, which awarded my efforts with a nice rare reward card. I'm looking forward to the next weekly challenge and hope to see you guys again!

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my posts!

Dragon Power

After exactly one year, two new splinterlands accounts and a completely new booster series, it's time to blow off the dust on this ol' blog of mine. And what better way to do so, than by participating the weekly challenge of the game I've been busy with the past 12 months.

Ruleset

| Splinter | | | | | | | | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Mana | 46 | | Rules | |

Lineup

Our party for this game is lead by the Drake of Arnak. This card is not exactly the most powerfull summoner in the game and the reason for me playing it is simple: It was one of the cheapest lvl 3 I could afford. Bonus points for beeing a dragon, so I can play lvl 4 cards from any splinter, as long as the ruleset allows for it.

Equalizer ruleset is super fun, because it allows you to play squishy cards without worrying too much about protecting them. It's also a little bit of a gamble, because whoever uses the highest hp card gives everyone the high hp, hence you kinda want to avoid that, as it gives the enemy free hp while you pay the mana for it.

This time I decided to go for the Bone Golem as a tank. It blocks some hits with the armor and resists magic, which will scale perfectly with the expected health gain.

Diamond Dragon as a follow up is even crazier in this regard. In general a risky card, because for 10 mana it gets easily oneshot by magic, but the equalizer fixes this weakness and non-magic damage dealers will find this a nut hard to crack.

Most cards with strong stats or abilities get balanced by low hitpoints. Now imagine the card gets no health nerf and BOOM, we have an op card. All of the backline cards have strong attacks to shred through the enemy and get tons of HP from the equalizer.

I'm just an engineering student that likes to fix his own stuff to save some money and extend its lifetime. I'm not a professional and this video is just for entertainment purposes. I'm not responsible for anyone doing harm to himself or his device by not following the manufacturers or local guidelines regarding the handling of electricity or electrical devices.

Last year two water damged laptops found their way on my 'workbench' and I was able to fix them quite easily without any special tools. This video might be helpful for people to avert costly repairs related to spilling drinks on their stuff, and to show how easy repairs can be, even without any significant experience on the subject.

I actually had this card for a few days now, but never felt like playing it. To be fair, it's probably not the strongest card in the game.

Why?

7 Mana for a card that only provides 2 ranged damage is not a good deal. It is rather tanky with 4 HP and 1 armor, but tankieness is not a great attribute for a ranged monster and the 2 speed is not convincing either.

When I saw my opponent playing mostly Living Lava or the Goblin Mech, I decided to give it a try, as both monsters have reasonable armor stats.

I'm not sure if it was worth playing this card, but it worked out in my favor.

First of all it did 2 instead of 1 damage to the Living Lava due to it's ability, and later on it provided some protection for my Zalran, which therefore had more rounds to lifeleech.

I'm sure there are better matchups for this card, but it's a nice proof of concept in my opinion.

Filmed a pair of restarts in our garden during breeding season. First they were taking the mealworms for themselves, then they would feed their kids and finally the baby birds would show up to be fed right on the spot.
