Dr. Kevin Blackwell joins the podcast to discuss an extremely important topic for ministry today, calling out the called. There is a shortage of laborers for God's kingdom and Kevin, through his leadership of the Ministry Training Institute of Samford, is looking to help remedy that shortage. Additionally, he serves on a committee working in partnership with the State Board of Missions looking to remedy this lack of those available to fill church positions in additional ways. He joins Dr. Lance to discuss this issue and more that will give you a glimpse into what will be revealed in more detail at our State Convention meeting in November.

Dr. Scott Pace, Provost, Professor of Preaching and Pastoral Ministry at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, joins Dr. Lance for a discussion on "calling out the called". The discussion begins with an overview of the challenge that is facing our Southern Baptist Churches in the need of people for taking up the positions available in our churches. Including full-time, part-time and bi-vocational roles. They transition from that aspect to discuss his book by the same name, co-authored with Shane Pruitt, but also many of Scott's other works, Expositional Leadership and his very practical, Preaching By the Book. They also advertise the forthcoming, Handbook of Contemporary Preaching. Rick and Scott also bond over their love for Alexander Maclaren and his practical approach to preaching.
Finally, Scott teases his preparation for the Called event coming up August for those feeling called into ministry, as we try to help meet the ever-growing needs mentioned prior.

Rob also casts the vision for 'reach more in 24' and how churches might try to reverse the trend of plateauing and declining churches after the season of COVID.
A summary of their discussion is that churches need to return to the basics of Christian living and just naturally share their lives with others to help lead the lost to an understanding of Jesus as savior and Lord. Sharing the Gospel, evangelism, is an innate call of every Christian and it must be the foundation of all our work. The work's continuation is discipleship once they become new believers.

Belinda Stroud, Children's Specialist and Bible Drill Coordinator, shares some insight into her ministries and some stories that will move you with how God is using her efforts. Patty Burns, Preschool Ministry Specialist and VBS promoter, shares about her work with preschool ministries and some VBS numbers that demonstrate the power of the ministry in 2023. Dr. Rick Lance discusses life, calling, IMB, and more with Dr. Paul Chitwood, president of the International Mission Board (IMB).
Hear from Dr. Chitwood in a way you might not have before as he discusses his personal testimony of coming to faith in Christ, his calling to full-time ministry, and the background that uniquely gifts him to his current role as President of the International Mission Board. His personal story is God's calling of a timid personality to serve the Lord in ever-growing responsibility culminating in a special role as IMB's president. The highlights: 18 years as pastor, passion, and experience of overseas missions, and Executive Director of the Kentucky Baptist Convention.
Dr. Chitwood also shares surprises when he assumed the role, the vision God is leading him to implement for the future of the IMB, and some updates and reflections on the work in Ukraine.
