Hi everybody. I am Claire. And I am Scarlett. Welcome to our podcast called Girlcents. Our show is created by us...and our mom, Katie... as a place where we can give you our "two cents." You know, the phrase that means giving our thoughts and opinions on what matters to us. When the girls asked to start this show, their dad and I thought it was the perfect way to reflect on growing up as a young girl and hear straight from them what is on their minds and what they are learning. Alright girls, let's dive in...
In this episode, Claire and Scarlett have a very special guest giving them words of wisdom. Madam CJ Walker was a VERY inspirational woman who also happened to be the first recorded female self-made millionaire. How better to learn more about her then to hear the family history from her great-great-granddaughter, A'Lelia Bundles.

In this episode, the girls talk about their favorite parts of visiting Washington DC. The dogs barking, girls talking over one another and the random side bar stories make this one truly authentic.
In this episode, the girls interview their friend Alex Kor to hear more about Yom HaShoah and Holocaust Remembrance Day coming up this week. Today is also a very special day for Alex for a couple of reasons. Listen in to learn why.
In this episode, the girls talk about a visit to the Indiana Historical Society (https://indianahistory.org/) where they attended a special event about Eva Kor, a survivor of the Holocaust and known for being a Mengele twin. They share about lessons learned, a few of their favorite exhibits, and about how they made a new friend in her son, Alex Kor. However, you have to listen in for a surprise and to understand why this episode is one they will remember forever.
Even more sentimental is that this episode launches on January 31, 2023 on what would have been her 89th birthday.
The girls have often talked about how the shirts with quotes they wore as toddlers were an inspiration to the podcast idea. We have already ordered ones with our favorite Eva Kor quotes and we have posted them here: https://ourgirlcents.wixsite.com/girlcents/etsy-shop. If you too are interested in a blue shirt (her favorite color), the girls will make a donation for every Eva shirt purchased to CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center (https://candlesholocaustmuseum.org/), an organization she started in Terre Haute, Indiana.
In this episode, Claire and Scarlett did some extra research. Hear as they draw connections between what they have read about Harriett Tubman, what they visited on a tour of the Levi Coffin house, and what they know about the context of the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday, a timely conversation when this was recorded.
In this episode, Claire and Scarlett talk about Amelia Earhart and the bravery she showed flying over the Bermuda Triangle. After this episode, Scarlett bravely pulled her tooth. Listen to the end to hear an accidental reveal of our next episode.
In this episode, Claire and Scarlett discuss the work of Dr. Jane Goodall. Scarlett loves animals and wanted to pick Jane for this episode. Claire loves to talk about David Greybeard. I know the girls definitely taught me some new facts in this episode!
In this episode, Claire and Scarlett talk about what they have learned about Malala Yousafzai. They reflect on how challenges exist for kids across the world today. Scarlett shares her favorite quote by Malala, “When the whole world is silent, even one voice becomes powerful.”
As mentioned in the episode, the girls wanted to link to the Malala Fund for donations found here: https://malala.org/donate
If you want to dedicate the donation so they see it, the podcast email is ourgirlcents@gmail.com.
