Explain It Me is a weekly comedy podcast hosted by two best friends Donna and Stephany, where each week one gets through the challenge of explaining the entire plot of a film with three rules: the plot has to be confusing, the host must be drunk to tell it, and the other host has never seen it.
Get ready for another bad movie with our favorite man, Nic Cage! Donna gets to tell Steph about this fever dream of a film and as we can predict Steph loses her mind. We got bad cops, guns, prostitution, lots of drugs, gambling, iguanas, and of course break dancing souls. It’s Nic Cage performing on a twenty for a film with no cohesion. Our favorite! Come along as we do our very best to make sense of this wild ride.

Are you ready for all the awful Russian accents we have for you in this episode? Yes? In that case get ready for Steph to talk about this gem, Eastern Promises! It’s all the plot points we love, mob families and abuse, grandpas having babies, drinking, stabbing, racism, and CHRISTMAS!!! Listen as Donna confuses this with A History of Violence and discusses the perks of getting a free baby. Stephany has issues with the lack of knowledge of motorcycles as usual, and both of us are very uncomfortable with the blatant homophobia in this film. So grab your vodka and knives and have a blast with this nonsense!
Hosted by Ausha. See ausha.co/privacy-policy for more information.
We’re back with a more “relaxed” movie, this time with a cast of over 100! The exaggeration is valid since we all know Stephany has problems following a film with 3 characters. That’s right, Donna is explaining the plot of Gosford Park and oh boy is it painful. Get ready for rich white people, gossip gossip gossip, and the traitor Pip the dog. We have a murder mystery where you’ll be asking “When is this murder gonna happen?!” It's as boring as Downton Abbey and not at all as fun as Clue, but we did it for you! So get your posh attire ready and your blackmail on hand because this one is quite the party!

We’ve got replicants on replicants, flying cars, robot babies, slave labor, robophobia, and guns. Oh and did we mention blind Jared Leto? (Too bad not mute jkjk (not really)).
Get your glass noodles and AI boyfriend, sit down, relax, and have yourself a good laugh! We hope you enjoyed the first of possibly more tiny series.

Get ready…for the ultimate beginning…of our first franchise!!!!! That’s right babbbbbeeeeeeey we did the amazing Blade Runner. Donna admits she cries at this movie as Stephany cries in pain trying to remember who is who. We have the sexy Harrison Ford as our main man and... some other people. We've got robots, robot animals, robot murder, robot sex? It's the first of our back-to-back series, so you know what's coming next! Listen in on the fun and stay up to date so you can listen to next week’s sequel. Get your robo gun, see-through raincoat and do some stretches for those amazing Fergie back flips to ensure you have a fun ride!

Get ready for Ohio wizards and nothing to do with deers! This week Donna Explains the complicated film The Killing of a Sacred Deer. It’s been a long time since Steph got a headache from a plot, and this is the one that brings that pain back. Get ready for murder, malpractice, and illegal motorcycle rides. This film is a psychological thriller mistaken by some as a comedy and we will bring you the laughs with all the confusion. So get ready for your period, revenge, and so much talk of body hair! Our pain is your pleasure.

This week, Donna does the classic 2001: A Space Odyssey where we all learn not to Google 2001 together and expect to get trivia on this film. We got giant black rectangles, lots of space shots, floating babies, and of course monkeys. (Which Stephany loves btw!) So come along as we discuss this magnificent film with little to no dialogue which makes our job so easy to explain.

Keanu Reeves’s most famous role and we don’t know why. Stephany does her best to get through the expositional mayhem that has Donna questioning why she does this. (Seriously why does she do this to me?) We got AI, people goo, explosions, guns of glory, kung fu up the wazoo, and COOKIES! Also shrimp robot parasites… gross. Get comfy, grab your drinks, and grab some snacks, cause you’ll need something to keep your attention up for this one.

Donna only cares that Cillian Murphy is in this film. Listen as she asks “How hot is the sun?” in the most deadpan serious way. So please listen and take this journey with us as we both try to figure out how blowing up the sun apparently will save it!
Strap in folks we are in for a crazy episode today! We are doing Steph’s favorite director (sarcasm) David Lynch and it is none other than his masterpiece Mulholland Drive. That’s right, this week we are doing Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch, a film where it looks like it was shot with a piss filter on it. (Stephany’s words). Steph explains this movie to Donna who only cares to find out why Oscar Issac did this movie. Who did he owe a favor to in Hollywood? Did Jon Hamm owe some favors too?

Steph is stepping into the crazy world of Charlie Kaufman today as Donna talks about the 2002 film Adaptation. We got the Bermuda Triangle of places in this film, California, New York, and of course Florida! Nic Cage is playing twins, a ghost orchid, and Meryl Streep, you can’t go wrong with this film. This week Donna had the pleasure of explaining Run, Lola, Run to Stephany, who doesn’t understand how bumping into someone one time, can help them win the lottery, or steal a baby. The more important question is how can you have a full-on conversation through glass?? The ’90s were crazy y’all! Get ready for some grocery store robberies, daddy issues, guns, a lucky homeless man, road rage, and seemingly unrequited love. Kids, if he asking you for money, don’t. Just don’t.

This movie is not one to play a drinking game with, because if you took a shot every time the number 23 was mentioned you'd be dead after 5! Yes, that's right, Donna did the fantastically terrible The Number 23, a movie she has seen one too many times now. Come along as we cry from all of the terrible names and even worse sex scenes in this film. Listen as we realize we did two movies this week that have a dog at the center of the plot. This one was agonizing so hope you enjoy listening!
Are you ready for our first confusing romance? Well, we are (NOT)! Join us on our journey as Stephany explains to Donna about time-traveling trees, dogs, and love letters. Don’t be like Donna who’s a real Debby downer and doesn’t believe in the truest form of love, time-jumping, cause we got famous architects with broken families, a guy getting hit by a bus on Valentine’s Day, and best of all a glass tree house with no toilet.“This is like science fiction Marley & Me and I hate it” -Donna
This movie taught us that children are the worst! Just kidding…. But freakazoid children growing on your tummy like a kangaroo sack, that's nasty. This week Donna did The Brood, described as if Kramer vs. Kramer was a horror movie. And Stephany doesn’t understand a goddamn thing but promises that she did her best even if it doesn't seem like it the entire episode. Donna doesn’t believe her. Listen for yourself and enjoy this torture.

Listen to Donna explain Goat DNA and how populations work. Also, shoutout to Woody.
This was a hard one guys…. Because Donna absolutely loved it! But that doesn’t mean she did that great of a job explaining it. This week Donna goes through the body horror classic Jacob’s Ladder and Stephany’s there along for the ride explaining the difference between dusk and dawn. Get ready for all that demon talk, that Vietnam talk, and that Home Alone talk. (IYKYK) So get your neck fixed and get ready to HATE JEZZIE IN THIS MOVIE. Hope you have fun!
This week Stephany and Donna are goin down to the byuo to get their fair share of crawfish, good old american guns, and time travel. Come find out how Snow White is involved in all of this craziness. Is Stephany saying ferry or fairy? Can you find someone attractive even if they’re dead? Are Bronco’s the murder mobile of the centery? Are you really dead if you die in the past which you’re in but you forget theres future you? Devu Ju will definitely have you saying Deja Who and maybe Deja what the hell is happening?! So grab your infrared helmets and your ATF FBI NYPD all in one badge, and buckle up for this insanity!
Have you had your fill of Nic Cage yet??? We haven’t! This week Donna gets into the dark twisted world of Joel Schumacher’s 8MM and, dear God, this movie is off the rails. Stephany is perplexed about the accurate description of certain sex toys, while Donna is more concerned with Peter Stromare’s ethnically ambiguous performance. Either way, we both have no clue what the hell is going on in this movie. So grab your crossbow(?), and your disguised copy of In Cold Blood, and get ready for this over-the-top film!
Have you ever wanted to be someone else, specifically Nic Cage and John Travolta? Have you ever wanted to feel up a choir girl in a stadium while simultaneously planting a bomb? Do you also want to know who the hell Wanda is?!? Hate to break it to you, but that last question is never answered. See what can be answered by listening to this week’s episode of Face/Off, as told by the lovely Stephany. Good John, Bad Nic, Good Nic, Bad John… this episode was like a drug-induced trip for Donna! So bring your knife, your voice-changing microchip, and your goo bucket, while we suffer through this movie.
Do you like films that are confusing, hate women, and take place at motels? So do we! This week Donna gets to explain the “great” movie Identity. And this is definitely the episode where Stephany screams “WHAT?!” at many different points. Guys you’re gonna wanna listen to this one because we argue about some real dumb things while ignoring this real dumb movie. So get in that dirty ass bed, don’t forget to throw your severed heads in the dryer, grab your room key which means nothing apparently, and sit back as we fail to explain this movie well.
Johnny Depp is JESUSTERNET according to Stephany. This week Steph explains the movie Transcendence to Donna, and all Donna cares about is Cillian Murphy’s hairstyle in the movie. Spoiler alert it is not a hitler youth haircut as Stephany wrongly describes! Nano bots, internet terrorists, microwaves, this movie has it all. So get ready as we pray to God there isn’t a sex scene between a human and a robot and enjoy this masterpiece.
What do you say to the disgusting poop snake that wants to infiltrate your memory warehouse? Bite my bag! This week Donna is doing a super disgusting film with cringy-as-hell dialogue that only Stephen King can deliver. Dreamcatcher! Stephany refers to every character as another tv show they were in and still doesn’t know who is who! So grab your toothpicks and help us solve what the hell is going on in this movie. The answer is aliens. Enjoy!
Walt Disney apparently had a good idea, and Tom Cruise agrees with him! Tom will also tell you to never get in a car with a woman who is only your F**k buddy after you shame her when she wasn’t invited to your birthday party. Women be crazy! In this episode, Stephany tries to persuade Donna into liking her movie pick, Vanilla Sky. And Donna has a hard time catching up because Steph keeps calling everyone by three different names. New movie, same Stephany. So buckle up because you’ll either laugh or we will drive the car straight off that bridge!
Crocodiles, Sex, Murder, and FLORIDA MOTELS…. Where we’re going you wish you didn’t come along. This week Donna has the honor of telling Stephany about the brilliant noir film Wild Things. Listen up as Stephany lies about knowing who Kevin Bacon is and as Donna accidentally shames guidance counselors. This movie tells us that threesomes don’t work and if you buy a yacht from your offshore island account, the cops are most definitely tracking your activity. So grab that winch and duck so you don’t fall overboard while you laugh along with us!
Who loves cults and aliens? Donna sure as hell doesn’t! That's why it was torture for her to have to sit while Stephany talked about The Endless! “Lost Highway sounded like a better movie than this” -Donna. Get ready to be confused from beginning to end as we discuss Kraken creatures in lakes that love taking photos. And also members that never age, car batteries, burner phones, and who could forget the ramen. So saddle up and don’t expect a clear explanation for this one because we do not have it for you!
This one starts with a bang! From being shot by an Iraqi child in the middle of a military zone. Buckle up everyone as Donna describes this very dumb, very depressi spagessi movie where using time travel means it's ok if you sleep with that child you rescued in the future because she's grown now. This week we are doing The Jacket staring the attractive (we think?) Adrien Brody. War, murder, psychiatric wards, and Daniel Craig wearing the worst hairpiece I’ve ever seen. Get cozy by the fire in your straight jacket and enjoy!
Are you there God? It’s me, Stephany, and I just want to know why you let children get cancer and why this movie exists? This week brings us David Lynch’s Lost Highway as well as Stephany’s painful retelling of this movie as this was her first Lynchian experience. What the hell was this movie about? Donna could not tell you if her life depended on it, that’s how confusing it was. We suffered so you can enjoy as we discuss this movie in full. So sit back and put your phone on silent mode just in case Robert Blake tries to call you to tell you he’s in your house, and enjoy this insanity with us!
WARNING: This is one of our last episodes that have particularly bad sound/background noise. We apologize in advance.
Ever felt like you’ve had a past life, one where you were perhaps a talented rap star from Boston? But now you find yourself playing a schizophrenic Japanese sword-wielding action hero, bro? Neither did we! Listen up as Donna explains (terribly) the plot of Infinite. A movie where you learn that reincarnation = magic, and jails are wide enough to drive an SUV through. So come along and bring your waterboarding kit and have fun…if you can.
Trying to disarm a bomb may be boring, but this episode definitely isn't! Just another normal day where someone’s trying to blow up a city. This week, Steph has the amazing task of going through the movie Source Code! Come on this adventure where we relive the same moment over and over again with nothing on our side but a train car Dunkin Donuts and a 2006 T-mobile pay-as-you-go phone for our internet sleuthing. “This movie is the Guess Who of train films but with bombs instead of faces and it makes zero sense”, says Donna. Come along for the ride and just know this episode will NOT blow you away. ;)
Do you remember what it was like being a moody teen in your suburban neighborhood? Did you have a grown man as an imaginary friend? Were your parents clueless as to where you were while you were sleepwalking all night?
In this week's episode, Donna has the honor of diving into the film Donnie Darko: a film about time travel, religion, pedophilic motivational speakers, and teenage boys who are just plain weird. So take off your stupid man suit and get ready while Donna fails at explaining time travel to Stephany. Don’t pretend you understand it, just accept it!
Have you ever wanted to go on a cross-country road trip in Crocs? Well, Jessica did and she got herself into a White Woman POV traveling nightmare. Join us as Stephany tries to explain to Donna the physics of a stick going through your foot, and how not to go on a road trip alone! Remember kids, never roll down your window for strangers, 300 miles might take you 5 days to travel, and never tell anyone your real name. So grab your makeshift sling and your proper escaping shoes for this film that I am sure no one has ever watched!
Remember the time when Vince Vaughn was hot despite one of us calling him 7 head? A time when psychological thrillers didn’t need to make sense because famous pop stars were the lead roles? A time when albino dog fur could be used to catch serial killers? Hop in the time machine because this week we’re going back to the year 2000 so Donna can recall the movie The Cell. That God-awful movie with terrifying costumes and even more terrifying acting. Welcome to our most fast paced unhinged episode thus far!
There can be only one… person who understands this film and neither of them is us! This week Steph is taking us to bonnie Scotland to tell us the magical tale of the film Highlander. Come with us as native New Yorkers learn together that Madison Square Garden does in fact have a parking garage. How many sword fights happen down there, we don’t know! (Donna guesses at least a few!) Get your magic jigsaw piece sword ready and listen with us as we refer to Clancy Brown as Mr. Krabs the entire episode. This one is a journey!
A butterfly flaps it’s wings and Ashton Kutcher loses his arms and legs forever according to this movie. This week, Donna has the most amazing job of telling Stephany from beginning to end, 2004’s The Butterfly Effect. We will gloss over the fact that Donna watched the wrong ending, because we are pretty sure it would be crap no matter the ending. So grab your jail journals as we talk about mailbox bombs, dad’s disease, and whatever else this movie has to offer. (Not much!)
Mel Gibson fought for Scotland’s freedom as well as our right to get drunk and retell history completely wrong. In this episode, Stephany gets to share the very sad (and true-ish) story of Braveheart. Come with us as we describe this gory story in the worst Scottish accents you’ve ever heard. We laugh, we cry, Steph is baffled that Donna still doesn’t know when guns were created. But by the end of it, we will all be on the same battlefield, wondering where the hell a scotsman got nunchucks. Come and enjoy Steph and Donna getting way too drunk for this episode and make complete fools out of themselves. We wholeheartedly apologize to the country of Scotland.
Can you think of the greatest gift you ever received? We bet it’s better than whatever the hell Michael Douglas gets in this movie…. keys??? In this episode we’re doing David Fincher’s The Game, a movie Donna forgets to mention he directed. (Party Foul) Come along for the fun as Donna gets drunker by the minute and leaves poor Stephany confused from beginning to end. It will leave everyone shouting “What?!”. Grab a drink, have a seat, and don’t forget your panties for this one.
P.S. Sorry for the audio issues like the obvious echo. We have improved our setup since the making of this episode.
Imagine one day your dead father contacts you on an old radio and instead of telling you what the meaning of life is or how proud he is of you, he asks you to help him catch a serial killer. This week, Stephany has the brain-meltingly difficult task of explaining this convoluted film involving (you guessed it) EVEN MORE time travel! Frequency is about family connections, mysteries, and the Amazing Mets, whatever the hell that is. Sit back, have fun, and let's all pretend the aurora borealis does appear in Queens New York.
