What Jonathan left behind was his impact on David - who became a mighty king - and the covenant they created was what ensured his lineage stayed intact long after his death.
Jonathan showed up for David many times in his story. Showing up for someone else can make a huge difference in helping them become who they are meant to be.
Jesus came to be with us, love us, and ultimately give Himself for us, showing us how to live and lead others well. In the same way throughout Scripture we are called to walk with people, help them grow, and pour our lives into others.
In Genesis God says it is not good for man to be alone. You need a small group of people - a tribe - who is WITH you throughout seasons of your life.

Jesus is recorded as saying "Take Heart" multiple times some 1,000 years after Jonathan. This phrase encompasses many different things to check in your life, which we explore on today's episode.

There is a strength that comes when we find what makes us come to life. But, we must prepare so that we're ready when the time comes to do what we were made for.
Jonathan was a man of valor, which means a strength of mind or spirit. We can trust God in hard times to give us a strength we may not have thought was possible.
Even after Samuel foretells the end of Saul's reign as king, Jonathan continues to live as a leader and a warrior. He devastates a Philistine army with only his armor-bearer and one sword, which sparks a rally of his army to victory. Although the complete victory was stalled by Saul's incompetence, Jonathan's courage was established.
Remember that God is for you. He has a plan for you and will help you discover your identity in Him if you walk in His steps.

Jonathan's legacy was vast, but his biggest part was how he invested in David. Your legacy is marked by the souls that your thumbprints are on.
Jonathan's friendship and investment into David changed the course of history, and left a legacy no one would have predicted.
As the first King and Prince of Israel, Saul and Jonathan quickly veer towards different paths. Saul never quite understands the weight of his role, while Jonathan becomes a great warrior despite finding out he will never take his father's place.
Jonathan received undeserved favor when he became a prince, and used it to increase his kingdom. Since God has granted each of us undeserved favor, we can also use it for good - to increase His kingdom.

Being a person that someone else needs doesn't have to take a lot. Basic things in life - like real connections with others - are often more fulfilling than anything fancy or exotic. You can start by just seeing and meeting someone's need to be heard, and who knows what that can grow into!

Faithfulness. Jonathan had only a few stories included in the Bible, however we can tell he was faithful in the everyday things of life - which led to the chance to do the great things he did.
There are a few unnamed boys in some significant Bible stories, including one with Jonathan and David. This week's episode encourages you to be open to serve in any capacity because you may be part of something great - even if your name is not recorded.
One important part of Jonathan's relationship with David was he helped him feel like he belonged. Who can you help feel that way - even when you don't feel seen yourself?
Wisdom isn't about dwelling on past time lost, but using your time now to prepare for what's ahead. Opportunities come from being prepared before they arise.

Take Heart, Have Courage. We spend too much time worrying about what may happen or regretting what has happened. Most things are not permanent, there is redemption for the moment. Let your mind inform your emotions toward the right action!
An encouragement for you this week: You have what it takes! Understand that each moment is not do-or-die. And learn to say I'm sorry to your kids. We all mess up, so set the example for them on how to respond to their own shortcomings.
Children need (and want) direction and boundaries! It is also your responsibility to help them develop in physical, intellectual, spiritual, and social areas.

Showing them they are a priority in your life by how you spend your time, modeling the parental roles, and teaching them Scripture are some ideas to give children clarity of your values.

A Growing Leader knows that suffering will come and that it will bring perseverance, character, and hope. They have a winning attitude, a winning mindset, and winning habits, which means nothing is beneath them, nothing is beyond them, and there's nothing they can't become!
Collaborative leadership is about working with a team. No one does anything significant alone! 3 important elements to a great team are Unity, Diversity, and Adversity. 3 requirements to build and maintain a team are Commitment, Trust, and Accountability.
The Principled Leader finds their values and lives them out. They are an intentional person who focuses on what character they want to be in their own story.

The third leader type is a Courageous Leader. A courageous leader has heart, much like King David shows and what Paul encourages in 2 Timothy. A courageous leader will do new things, difficult things, and the right things.
Today the leadership focus is on Vision. There are 3 components a visionary leader uses: direction, correction, and projection. They will make it plain where they want to go, be willing to adjust, and help others understand how they will get there.

Servant Leaders are those who lead by helping and taking care of others. 3 essential qualities of a servant leader are someone who is aware, who has empathy, and who stewards relationships. You need a group! Honoring others is a mandate from the Bible, which means to give each person value no matter who they are. When you are with others in a group, you can all contribute to each other and to a common goal. Together you have the potential to change the world!
Consistent Contribution Creates Community. Being with people and contributing something to their lives, their group, or their situation is the best way to develop influence with them. Instead of being needy, look to meet needs!
The Person Everyone Needs will value people by taking time to see them, ask them questions, and listen. When you see the value in someone that no one else sees, you will have the ability to influence their lives like you never imagined.
"Time WITH is Never Time Wasted" is a theme you'll never forget. As you get older, you don't want to be "just sitting here dying." Recognize the blessing you have in those who have been with you and for you. Being WITH people is the way to impact others and leave a legacy.
The word "with" is the most important word in life. There are multiple instances in the Bible that show God is always with you and that you need people in life who are with you.
The Person Everyone Needs has confidence in the power God has given them - not always a power of explosiveness, but often a dynamic power that sustains you through life. You will also live in more confidence when focusing on the things you have the most control over.
In order to be successful, you need three types of people in your life - Leaders, Leaners, and Learners. You need people to guide you, people who will support you through your journey, and people who will let you teach them about what you've experienced. In the Apostle Paul's life, this is understood through Barnabas, Silas, and Timothy.
The 3rd list of becoming better relating to the Greatest Commandment is found in the list of 7 spirits from Isaiah 11. These describe how we can work to become better with our Head (mind). We wrap up with a few more great lists to keep in mind in your journey to become the Person Everyone Needs.
This week we learn about becoming better in 2 of the 3 facets of the Greatest Commandment (your Heart, your Hands, and your Head). The Fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5 are an example of getting better in your heart. The Spiritual Gifts in 1 Corinthians 12 are ways to become better through your hands.
Better. The Person Everyone Needs works on a plan for growth and success. They know that they must prepare to get where they want to go and make necessary steps to move in that direction.
The final “Be” statement is Be Steadfast, Immoveable - don’t be moved by anything in the world except faith and compassion. Listen to God, get a mentor, and don’t let anything stop you from going toward where you want to go and being who you want to be.
Legacy - Who (not What) are you leaving behind? The only way to influence people and leave a legacy is to spend time with them and love them.
This week we explore Destiny and the question: What am I made of?
To be Strong is about being Skilled and Trained, while being Courageous is about Bravery, Valor, and Heart.
Be Still. This week Identity is explored further and we learn that just like Salt and Light - we are essential and important. We should always be growing in health, intellect, spirituality, and relationships.
This episode starts exploring our Identity. As children of God, we don't need to listen to anyone else's voice about us except for His. Part of our identity is found in God's first command - our calling to be fruitful and multiply by having ambition to improve, grow, and be accomplished.
After the death of Jonathan, David find a way to fulfill their covenant. He proves his true loyalty for Jonathan by caring for his son and treating him as a son of the king. The way you ought to treat a person is the way you would want somebody else to treat your own child.
We explore the relationship and covenants between David and Jonathan, and how Jonathan modeled loyalty to David even while knowing he was forgoing his own place on the throne.
From the text in 1 Samuel 14, Jonathan shows the importance of being prepared and how to seize opportunity and destiny. We also see the beauty of a friend who is with you heart and soul.
