Live! In-studio! USF athletic director Mark Harlan joins TDS's Collin Sherwin and Nate Bond. We discuss the state of USF men's basketball, the progress of the feasibility group towards on-campus stadium for football, the progress and successes of recent months, and lots of other things in a freewheeling conversation.
We did this from the WBUL studios in the Marshall Center. Shoutout to USF starting pitcher Shane McClanahan and backup quarterback Brett Kean for waving at us in the middle of taping through the window.
It's a must listen for any Bulls fan, and thanks again to Mark for the time.
In this week’s episode, Paul Leistner and Carl Zee recap USF 45, Cincinnati 20. They look at the first half defensive struggles, the lights out offense & special teams, and begin to preview ECU for what should (again, SHOULD) be a nice USF Homecoming win.
Collin showed up late due to Tampa traffic, so we cut a lot of the same repeating out of it so you don’t have to hear the same takes from everyone twice.
It’s as terrible as we always are, but if you like what we normally do you’ll enjoy it. Also we give Paul a baby shower gift live on air!
Also we’ll have a nice surprise for everyone next week.
This week Collin Sherwin, Paul Leistner, and Carl Zee wrapup the debacle that was the last 56 minutes of the FSU-USF game.
We also mention the team failing to stay out for the alma mater postgame (unlike every other team on-campus after a win or loss), the future years football schedule, the Willie Taggart to LSU odds (6-1 on Bovada!!), and begin to preview Cincinnati this weekend.
We also talk about the loss of Asiantii Woulard, other USF sports (go women's soccer!), and rip Plies again for not having a tailgate.
We do a bit more cursing than usual, so sorry about that. We'll try and do better next time.
Live from Collin's dining room, at 12:10 a.m. on a Friday morning, Jamie DeVriend and Collin Sherwin go over everything FSU.
Which unit could cost the Bulls the game? Where can they attack the partially-depleted Seminoles? And how will it feel to be at Ray Jay on Saturday for the first meaningful game in years?
We've had a lot of fun this week, and that should extend until Saturday. Can't wait to feel what's it like to watch a huge USF football game again.
It's FSU Week! We'll of course have lots of #content, but this might be the best. Collin Sherwin, Paul Leistner, and Carl Zee welcome FSU grads and friends Hoyt Prindle and Greg LaManna to discuss the biggest game at Ray Jay in years.
Hoyt's rant to open the podcast is so FSU fan, it should be transcribed on Renegade's back. Seriously, just take it in all its glory.
We also discuss how hurt is Dalvin Cook, where's Jimbo Fisher coaching next season, can USF give FSU as much trouble in zone read as Louisville, and every other topic relating to the game. As for predictions: one USF fan picks FSU to win, and one FSU fan picks USF.
We also discuss how USF finally got back to a point where games matter again, what it'll sound like at the stadium on Saturday, how big games like this should feel, and reminisce about games like this from long ago, and how this one should compare.
Normally our podcasts are of course as mediocre as we are, but this one is good. Enjoy it.
It's one week until football! Let's get it started!
Joey Knight from the Tampa Bay Times joins Collin Sherwin, Nathan Bond, and unfortunately Carl Zee live from the WBUL studios.
We discuss our outlooks on the upcoming football season, where we think USF will be good, and what they need to avoid to be at the top of the AAC.
We also got through the recent machinations of men's basketball (spolier alert: it's doesn't look good) ride for your CURRENTLY COMPLETELY UNDEFEATED volleyball, and men's and women's soccer teams too.
In this episode, we catch up on the summer 50 days from football! We discuss the sports of last season, review the best and worst of 2015-16, start getting ready football, preview (and trash) the rest of the AAC East Division.
It was fun to do these again, and we're starting up a bit earlier than we normally do as we get excited about the start of a USF Football season for the first time this decade. It's a nice change of pace!
Sorry for the bad microphones, but Jeff Odom, Kevin Weiss, and Collin Sherwin discuss RIP Tampa Tribune, conference realignment, USF men's basketball's new transfer, The O.C... Yeah, it's a tire fire.
Lindsey Morrison, SID for USF Softball joins us to discuss their AAC Championship season, as well as plug their fundraiser for Meredith Bissette on Sunday at 5pm at the Softball Stadium.
And Holden The Baseball Team Manager joins us. Basically because he showed up, he's a good kid, and he knows way more about USF Baseball than anyone.
We're working on getting some new equipment to improve the sound. Enjoy!
In this episode, Collin Sherwin and Kevin Weiss discuss student-athletes transferring, student-athletes getting tested for weed, the football depth chart, the NFL Draft and USF's lack of presence in it, Wawa vs. Publix... all while watching Islanders-Lightning from The Patio and drinking Cigar City Jai Alai. Because we are from Tampa, and that is our Bud Light.
It's not our best effort, but hey at least we're doing them every week now!
Live from The Patio in Palma Ceia, Kevin Weiss, Jeff Odom of the Tampa Bay Times, and Collin Sherwin discuss TheDailyStampede.com, USF Football's Spring Game, answer all sorts of questions from Twitter, and do so while drinking Cigar City Jai Alai and smoking cigars. The podcast can't get much more Tampa than that.
Sorry for the sound quality, we'll bring different mics next week.
In this week's episode, we welcome back Kevin Weiss from his travels all over America towards becoming a media genius. We also discuss the end of football, recruiting, men's and women's basketball,
We also lost a ton of this podcast due to equipment issues, the sound quality is at best OK, and we also said 4-star WR recruit Darnell Salomon is absolutely committed to the Bulls (the next day he said he was taking visits to Pitt, Wazzu, and others). So it's still just like you remember.
We promised more and better pods in the Spring, and it looks like that's going to happen. Enjoy our welcome back!
In this week's episode made possible by Veterans Day, Jeff Odom & Collin Sherwin go over the last few weeks of interesting, meaningful football at USF. We're as stunned as you are.
We also discuss the beginning of basketball season, both soccer teams and their NCAA pushes, and all the other happenings around USF Athletics. Collin also diatribes on student groups that have events on football game days.
We also welcome midfielder Jordyn Listro from women's soccer, who takes on FGCU in their first round NCAA Tournament game on Saturday at 1 p.m. at USF. Hey Bulls fans: make a doubleheader out of Saturday: Corbett Stadium for soccer at 1 p.m., Ray Jay at 7 p.m. for Temple!
It's still really mediocre and there's no bumper music because Collin doesn't know how to do that stuff, but it's still the best USF sports podcast on the Internet, and that's not just because it's the only one.
In this week's episode, Jeff Odom and Collin Sherwin discuss USF's shocking 45 points scored vs. Syracuse. Can they keep the momentum going this weekend in Hartford against an improved UConn team?
We also discuss basketball, the dearth of podcasts lately, and Josh Appel's hair. Because of course.
It's all as terrible as you remember, don't worry!
This week Josh Appel, Vinnie Portell, and Collin Sherwin discuss the pluses and minuses coming off the Bulls 34-14 loss to FSU. We discuss a defense that was solid... except in containing one of the best players in America in Dalvin Cook.
We also discuss the good things and bad things the offense did. They made some plays... and also left a ton out on the field. Is that enough to win with this defense against lesser AAC competition? And how will they matchup with Maryland (who will start their previously backup QB) in what seems to be a winnable game for the Bulls?
Also we chat with Natalia Soares of USF Volleyball ahead of their tournament in the Sun Dome this weekend vs. Auburn... and Penn State. The #1 team in the world on your home floor is a great recruiting opportunity, and we discuss what it'll be like at the Dome on Saturday.
It's better because Natalia was wonderful, but we're still as mediocre as ever. Enjoy!
In Part 2, we discuss FSU football with Josh Newberg of Bulls (and Noles) 247.com, and touch on how the partnership between Voodoo Five and Bulls247 came together.
Then we get kinda silly and call two of Collin's friends in Greg & Hoyt, both proud members of #FSUTwitter, and play the "#FSUTwitter Quiz Game." Because FSU Twitter is one weird place #Unconquered
Note: A fantastic argument between Josh & I about Ybor City, Coach Taggart, and Mark Harlan got lost by our equipment. We could have run like 30% of it, but would have been out of context. Basically Newberg called me an a-hole and I called him clueless. It was really fun, and it sucks we lost it.
In Part 1 of our podcasts this week, Josh Appel, Vinnie Portell, and Collin Sherwin look back at the FAMU blowout win, and ahead to another opportunity for the Bulls to make some noise in an out of conference road game at FSU on Saturday.
We try not to get too excited for the big win, and will try and not get too upset if things don't work out this weekend. Hard not to get excited about Elkanah Dillon, though.
We also reference some specific FSU content coming later, and those will be up shortly as well.
We're back for Season Three! Which is about as deserved as True Detective getting a Season Three, but we digress. In the kickoff episode the Tampa Bay Times' Jeff Odom, Josh Appel of Bulls Radio and I discuss what we've seen in football camp so far, and help get you ready for football season. We talk about our projections for how the season might go, as well as the quarterback battle (which might be resolved this evening at the team meeting). It's all of us discussing our beloved Bulls, and it's all as mediocre as ever. We can't wait for this season to get started, and these podcasts are possibly most fun thing any of us do covering the Bulls. May you enjoy listening as much as we do creating.
In this edition, Josh and Collin discuss the new recruits that joined the Bulls on Wednesday morning, undeterred by their utter lack of preparation for this conversation. Then Quarterbacks Coach and Co-Offensive Coordinator David Reaves comes and talks about the newly signed Bulls, the new spread offense, and this spring's competition for the quarterback spot. Also, Josh and I ramble on about the men's basketball team and Collin explains why he would have been pleased with a Temple win on Wednesday night (which they got). Listen please, but remember that we're writers, not radio personalities (thank God).
In this week's hurried and not-very-well prepared episode, Josh & Collin discuss USF football recruiting with National Signing Day just over a week away. We also delve into the struggles of men's basketball, and the continued dissing of the women's basketball team.
Then Josh launches into an impassioned rant about the disaster that was the Royal Rumble. He's such a mark.
We'll be back next week for a bit longer as we get ready for National Signing Day.
In this week's episode, Collin Sherwin, Jeff Odom, and Josh Appel wrap up the awfulness that was the C. Florida shutout. We also begin to put a bow on the season, and talk about some moves we expect to see this offseason.
We also talk to Joey Johnston of the Tampa Tribune about his thoughts on the disaster of a season for football, and what can be done to turn it around.
We then devolve into a discussion of 90's suburban rock that just goes off the rails, and mix in some USF men's and women's basketball. Let us know if you enjoy it, because it was a sidebar off a tangent of a digression. But at least we had fun.
This week Josh Appel & Collin Sherwin discuss the lack of progress on most fronts seen by USF in the Memphis game. Why isn't USF getting better? Why the continual seemingly plan-free rotation of quarterbacks? What's the plan here?
Also Collin launches into a diatribe about why he hates the UCF "rivalry," and we discuss the upcoming Black Friday game that will end the Bulls season.
We also talk about the incredibly fun USF men's basketball team that has quickly captured our hearts, Sting joining the WWE, and USF athletic director Mark Harlan joining us on the podcast next week (or the week after, whatever, he's coming)!!
In this week's episode, Josh Appel and Collin Sherwin discuss the "win" over SMU. Was it a win, or just an indication as to how intractible the USF coaching staff is? Josh plays "We Are The Champions" at all opportunities, and Collin says it was the worst win in program history. Both sides are vociferoulsy argued.
We also discuss the upstart, fun to watch, but maybe not very good yet men's basketball team, the big opening weekend for women's basketball, the two heartbreaking losses for the men's and women's soccer teams, and Josh's pretty boring travel adventures.
We close with Jamie DeVriend from Voodoo Five, who covered the SMU game in Dallas. He talks about one of the worst football games you'll ever see, and the lack of direction of the USF offense. We also get into the coaching carousel of college football, Will Muschamp, and of course gambling.
In this week's super brief edition, we talk to Denise Schilte-Brown about USF Women's Soccer ahead of their NCAA Tournament match against Illinois State Saturday night.
Denise (and her twins) were fantastic, and go root on her team tomorrow night at 7 p.m. as they start their NCAA run.
Also we taped like 45 minutes of other podcast that we had to put in the dumpster because QUINTON FLOWERS!! Thanks Coach Taggart for screwing up our media cycle totally. We'll forgive you if there's a win on Saturday.
It's far less mediocre than usual because of Denise, so enjoy.
In this week's delayed but never denied podcast, Josh Appel and I go over the so much fun (and so awful to watch) USF VIP Experience basketball game, the football loss to Houston that has many Bulls fans scratching their heads, and various other things happening on campus.
We also welcome two very special guests: USF women's basketball head coach Jose Fernandez (1-0) and men's basketball head coach Orlando Antigua (0-1) live from the postgame of the VIP Experience. Fernandez discusses his keys to victory (note: one of them was not picking me first in his draft), and Orlando Antigua (0-1) talks about the mistakes he made, including having six players on the floor at once. Oops.
We also talk to the coaches about their teams for 2014-15. Is Courtney Williams an All-American candidate? Can the men finally get out and run a little with what seems to be a guard-heavy team? What was Jose thinking with the toughest non-conference schedule you'll ever see? And how does all that weight Chris Perry lost help his game?
This week we tackle the disaster that was the Cincinnati game, and that's more tackling than the Bulls did all night long (590 yards allowed!). We also get into people harassing USF players on Twitter (scumbags), the upcoming local USF media basketball game, and of course things like gambling & the Houston game and why Jeff Odom's neck makes him look like Jiminy Glick.
In this week's 14 hours late and slightly shorter than usual edition, Josh Appel and Collin Sherwin recap the biggest comeback in USF history, 38-30 over Tulsa. Admit it, after the first half, you did NOT see that coming!
We also talk everything else USF, and start to get you ready for a Cincinnati team that can't seem to stop anyone. Is their lax defense enough for the Bulls to overcome their weeknight curse? That's a split decision
This week we rehash the promise and failure of the ECU game with Josh Appel and Jeff Odom of the Tampa Bay Times. We talk about the chances USF had and missed, whether the Bulls are making the right adjustments, and delve into whether former players should be commenting on the current state of the program (ahem, Matt Grothe).
Joey Knight from the Tampa Bay Times joins us as well, and we also play lots of songs involving the number 17 since that's the maximum USF seems to score. Some of them are classics (Stevie Nicks), and some of them are terrible (Avril Lavigne).
It's as mediocre as always, but still fun if you love your Bulls.
