Our guest for this episode, Monica Bishop, started her digital marketing agency in 2019 and hit the ground running. Like an Enneagram 8, she worked, worked, and worked some more.
She stalled out in late 2020 – lost several clients (thank you COVID) on top of sudden & severe shoulder pain (right in the middle of her 200 level yoga teacher training – yikes). If you’ve been through pain, surgeries and the ups/ downs that running your own business can bring, you know it changes you.
She soon realized her business needed to serve her clients at a deeper level. She coaches her clients to not only learn the mechanics of marketing but also how to soothe their own limiting beliefs and fears.

In this conversation with Debi Lewis, Enneagram 4, we discuss the Ennea-Dragons and yoga.
Ennea-Dragon 1. The Reformer / Perfectionist, who wants so much to be a good dragon, in spite of his/her reputation for throwing fire in frustration from time to time. Ennea-Dragon 2. The Helper / Giver, who wants so much to love and be loved, and finds that he often gives too much and then ends up being resentful and exhausted. Ennea-Dragon 3. The Achiever, who strives for success and mastery, and finds that he is often so consumed by this drive to succeed, aren't dragons all supposed to hoard piles of gold? Ennea-Dragon 4. The Individualist, who feels different and alone so often, is often paralyzed so much that he hides out in the hills and is hard to find.
Ennea-Dragon 5. The Investigator, who feels safest when he understands the Ways of Life and Dragons in Great Detail. This dragon is very educated and knowledgeable, and since dragons are known to live a long time, has spent a good deal of it collecting information. Ennea-Dragon 6. The Loyalist, who struggles with anxiety and is a Worst Case Scenario expert, and therefore is very organized and alert for any hint of trouble. Ennea-Dragon 7. The Enthusiast. You would think that this dragon doesn't have a care in the world. Flitting and frolicking and always ready for a fun time.
Ennea-Dragon 8. The Boss, who loves a good fight and can breathe fire masterfully.
Ennea-Dragon 9. The Peacemaker wants above all else to avoid conflict and to be surrounded by peace. (Joyflow.com)

A portion of Indra's bio from his website-As an adult I have been a seeker and devotee on the spiritual path for more than 40 years. I began studying astrology in the early 1970's, in my mid 20's, first attracted to its numerical and mystical nature. It was at this time that I also first read The Holy Science, written by Sri Yukteswar, and started learning about the Yugas. I became a disciple of the well known Indian master, Paramahansa Yogananda, and spent 20 years living in a spiritual community in California experiencing deep lessons in discipleship and Indian philosophy. In 1999 my life changed in many ways. First, I was introduced to the Enneagram and began an in-depth study of this fascinating modality. Intuitively I felt there to be a connection between astrology and the Enneagram. LEARN MORE ABOUT HIS OFFERINGS: www.indrarinzler.com--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/christy001/support

In this Enneagram +Yoga podcast episode, Kat and Christy interview Lisa McBryde @lamcbryde about practices that can help Enneagram types 7, 8, and 9 experience personal growth. Lisa was born and raised a country girl from Jasper, Tennessee and was the son her Dad never had. She wanted to be a nurse for as long as I could remember and followed that dream to become a RN in 1982. Her specialty was Oncology and she administered chemotherapy to cancer patients and supported them in a very difficult time. Over 30 years ago she "fell" into yoga and like nursing it also became a passionate calling. Lisa tries to teach in such a way that she pushes the student, yet encourages them to feel a connection with every breath they take. She says she is a Type A personality and owns it 100% and so the yin part of her practice was initially a challenge, but now is such a welcome release. Her first certification was with Yoga Alliance. She had initially been teaching in the fitness industry and this option was part of that discipline. She met Sara Mingus and she steered her toward 200 hour teacher training with Dolly Starvos. Dolly and Lisa really connected and her eyes and mind were opened to so many things. This discipline called yoga serves its students individually and meets them where they are. She then completed Level I training with Baron Baptiste and learned so much about sequencing and assisting. She loves assisting and believes human touch is an integral part of the practice. What started as flexibility training to balance cardio and weight training, has led to this awareness of the breath, the mind and the body, as one, and no two days are the same. Several years ago she stepped out on her own to experience something different when she discovered a love and passion for fly fishing as it takes you to beautiful, calm places but forces you to focus. She is a confident, compassionate woman, and mother, who truly loves serving others.--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/christy001/support

You will truly enjoy this interview with Enneagram 1 and yoga teacher, Brenda Nakdimen. This episode's focus is on equanimity. Equanimity is about how we can experience a deeper calm within ourselves in the face of life's ups and downs, and find deeper access to the fullness of life. Yoga called to Brenda as soon as she realized a need for balance in her life. She was a teacher, a single mother, and an overachiever. Simply put, she was busy. On her website, stonesrippleyoga.com she says, "I saw many signs that I was being summoned to a simpler life. I needed space for quiet contemplation and less competitive focus. When yoga found me, I immediately noticed its calming effect." It influenced Brenda's life— both on and off the mat. She's been practicing yoga for 20 years now and has been teaching since 2015. Brenda teaches at Yoga Landing in Chattanooga, where her classes are offered in person and virtually. She also offers private instruction. In this episode we talk with Artist, Enneagram type 4, and yoga teacher, Katherine Hanks, about how Enneagram types 7, 8, & 9 can become the truest version of themselves. Katherine Hanks is an interdisciplinary artist based in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. Her work is a part of the permanent collection of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History archives and has been featured in Where Women Create and City Scope Magazine. Katherine’s earliest memories were set against a limestone canyon along the emerald green Frio River in the Texas hill country. This closeness to wilderness awakened in her a hunger for the sacred and the drive to create. From 2014–2019, Katherine ran Annie Hanks, a collaborative ceramics studio in Chattanooga, TN. In this episode we talk with Artist, Enneagram type 4, and yoga teacher, Katherine Hanks, about how Enneagram types 3, 4, 5 and 6 can become the truest version of themselves. The studio was integral to the community and small business landscape of the town and produced work for clients nationwide. During today's episode we talk with Holly Wade, LCSW and Enneagram 7 about The Wisdom of Brené Brown & the Enneagram, particularly for Enneagram types 8 & 9. Holly is a licensed clinical social worker in Memphis, TN. She has worked across the spectrum of mental health levels of care and brings that experience with her into private practice. Holly specializes in helping people recover from difficult life experiences that some label as “trauma.” Trauma comes in many forms and we don’t all know how to recognize it, but it shows up as anxiety, depression, substance abuse and other mental health problems. Trauma is often accompanied by shame and Holly has specialty training as a Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator at building shame resiliency. The Daring Greatly™, Rising Strong™ and Gifts of Imperfection treatment models are based on the research of Dr. Brené Brown and fall under the umbrella of The Daring Way™. In addition to her Daring Way™ training Holly is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) and has extensive experience with Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) from her training at Four Winds Hospital in Katona, New York. Her training in DBT and yoga classes at the local gym inspired Holly to gain more education in mindfulness. On a chance retreat to Kripalu Yoga Center in the Berkshire Mountains, Holly was introduced to the work of Jack Kornfield, PhD and has continued to practice and study Insight Meditation for the past ten years. In 2018 she took her yoga practice to the next level with a 200 hour RYT training at Yoga Landing in Chattanooga. Along the yoga journey Holly was introduced to the power of Breathwork by Ashley Ludman in Costa Rica. Holly has since continued to train with Ashley and develop her own skills as a breathwork facilitator. In 2022 Holly and her husband relocated to Memphis and she is excited to return to private practice focusing on creating a safe place for those who are in transition (divorce, grief, empty-nesting, job change), supporting a loved one with a substance use disorder diagnosis/severe mental illness, or recovering from emotional abuse or trauma. She will use her expertise to guide you towards healing and resilience for optimal functioning. She has a love for working with adolescents and their families as they transition through this formative time. Her practice is LGBTQ affirming and she strives for cultural competency at work and in the world. As part of her social work legacy, Holly is a social justice warrior and will always advocate for safety and acceptance for all persons. We must stand up for each other. We must stand up for justice for all. Eleanor Roosevelt- Be confident, not certain. George Bernard Shaw- We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.
Henri Nouwen-When we honestly ask ourselves which person in our lives mean the most to us, we often find that it is those who, instead of giving advice, solutions, or cures, have chosen rather to share our pain and touch our wounds with a warm and tender hand. The friend who can be silent with us in a moment of despair or confusion, who can stay with us in an hour of grief and bereavement, who can tolerate not knowing, not curing, not healing and face with us the reality of our powerlessness, that is a friend who cares. Elie Wiesel- Someone who hates one group will end up hating everyone - and, ultimately, hating himself or herself.

During this episode we talk with yoga teacher, Anthony Prince, about how solitude, stillness and intentional pause practices can benefit Enneagram numbers 1, 2, 3 and 4. Anthony is a musician, a yogi, wellness coach, a mindfulness teacher, and personal trainer. An athlete most of his life, he first fell in love with yoga in 2014, but after taking a powerful yin yoga class on a bright New Year’s Day in 2016, he realized there was more to it than the physical aspects. From then on, Anthony knew he needed to become a teacher and in 2020, as the world transformed, he received his CYT-200hr Yoga certification from Tough Love Yoga in Atlanta, GA. Through several years of self-development as an artist on the road, Anthony learned the importance of self-growth through self-love and compassion and incorporates these ideals in every aspect of his teaching. Since starting his journey through yoga, Anthony has made it his soul’s purpose to commit himself to the service of others by providing wellness coaching through the lens of yoga as a foundation to uplift the spirit, encourage radical self-expression, address unaddressed trauma, and to create a new sense of balance in personal well-being. If you are interested in a private session with Anthony, contact him at Anthonyaprince11@gmail.com or on Instagram @mindfulrhythmwellness His website is: MindfulRhythmWellness.life

Part 2: Boundaries with Lisa McBryde. In this Enneagram +Yoga podcast episode, we explore the importance of the importance of boundaries for Enneagram types 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9.
Several years ago Lisa stepped out on her own to experience something different when she discovered a love and passion for fly fishing as it takes you to beautiful, calm places but forces you to focus. She is a confident, compassionate woman, and mother, who truly loves serving others.

During this interview we learn from Dr. Lauren Sparks about suffering and the Enneagram. Dr. Sparks is an Enneagram 2 and the founder of Untamed Iona, a private medical practice specializing in the treatment of Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) and erythromelalgia (EM). Why did she choose these specialties? Because she has suffered and healed from both CIRS and EM. Dr. Sparks own disease process taught her that no person will ever be more motivated to help you heal from a disease than someone who had it themselves. Dr. Sparks is also the founder of The Einstein Mission, a nonprofit organization dedicated to thinking outside the box to fund uncommon research and treatment for underacknowledged diseases. The Einstein Mission’s current research focus is on erythromelalgia and CIRS. Dr. Sparks is a doctorally prepared nurse practitioner. In addition, she completed post-doctoral physician certification administered by Dr. Ritchie Shoemaker in the “Shoemaker Protocol.” Why did she deeply desire to complete training under Dr. Shoemaker? Because she credits Dr. Shoemaker’s brilliant research with saving her life. Although traditional medicine has little to offer those suffering with erythromelalgia, treatment of Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) would correlate with a complete remission of Dr. Sparks’s erythromelalgia. Dr. Sparks finds most people challenged with CIRS also benefit from emotional support. Due to her training as a therapist prior to becoming a medical provider, she runs low-cost Community Support Circles for those challenged with CIRS, erythromelalgia, or the “double whammy” of both diseases. What she hears frequently is that it was a godsend to be part of a group finding creative ways forward together. Dr. Sparks has collaborated with The University of Melbourne’s Dulwich Centre to help educate other therapists and community workers on how to support those challenged with pain and chronic illness. Dr. Sparks has received post-doctoral training in functional medicine and functional psychiatry. In addition, she enthusiastically studied functional nutrition during her doctoral program. She enjoys weaving integrative practices into her work as she found functional medicine to be supportive of her own healing. Prior to transitioning into a medical provider role, Dr. Sparks spent time working in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). In addition, she spent almost a decade in hospice. She has also worked in psychiatric settings. Dr. Sparks believes her wide range of experiences, especially including her own illness and recovery, make her the medical provider she is today. Many say she is the most compassionate medical provider they have ever met… she says that is so only because she has quite literally walked in their shoes. What does Dr. Sparks most want you to know? “You’ve lost too many years to illness already, but with treatment of CIRS using the Shoemaker Protocol, you’ll find you have much living left to do! To schedule a consult with Dr. Sparks, shoot an email to connect@untamedion.com with “CIRS Consult” in the subject line. Visit www.untamediona.com to see our rates. On this episode of Enneagram+Yoga, Kat & Christy share the second half of their interview with Liz Norell, Enneagram 2. In this episode, Liz talks about all 9 numbers and how the Enneagram informs her teaching! Every episode ends with a meditation. Liz is a political scientist/professor, yoga teacher and life coach. She sees the world through those complementary lenses, focused on building greater understanding and empathy across differences to make our lives and the world less fraught. In her academic work, she tries to help students see how and why different people come to different conclusions on political issues. When she's not doing those things, she's probably sitting in a comfy chair with a book, listening to her two dogs snoring nearby. Or when a global pandemic isn’t raging, perhaps on a road trip.

An athlete most of his life, he first fell in love with yoga in 2014, but after taking a powerful yin yoga class on a bright New Year’s Day in 2016, he realized there was more to it than the physical aspects. In this episode Kat and Christy interview, Brittany Young. Brittany is an educator, certified yoga instructor and practitioner, blogger, and lover of all things enneagram. Recently she and her sister started a lifestyle and faith-based blog together centered around habits of mindful living. In fact, Brittany first learned about the enneagram from her sister! It took her about 2 years to settle on her number, but now she is quite sure she is (and always has been) an enneagram 9. Check out: www.annieandaudrey.com These are some of the questions we asked Brittany you may want to reflect on: 1) Enneagram 9's tend to avoid conflict. Is this true for you and if so how are you working on being more assertive, even if it is uncomfortable?
2) Like Enneagram 2's, 9's can struggle with boundaries and saying no and speaking up more for their own needs and wishes. What are some ways the Enneagram has helped you work on boundaries? 3) The deadly passion of the Enneagram 9 is sloth. Sloth is not only complacency, but also the tendency of 9's to not fully engage with life, their desires or even their vocational pursuits. How does sloth show up in your life? 4) The arrow of health for an Enneagram 9 is the Enneagram 3. What is a yoga pose that helps you feel more energized and confident, like a healthy 3? 5) What parts of you is the Enneagram helping to heal or even awaken? 6) Enneagram 9's are in the Anger triad of the Enneagram, but they tend to disown and repress their anger and it can come out in more passive ways. Is this true for you and if so, how are you working on owning and feeling your anger and communicating it in healthier ways? 7) Comfort and harmony can be very important to a 9. Are they for you? If so, how do you create them in your own life?
8) As an enneagram 9, do you often feel misunderstood? If yes, in what way(s)?
9) Just like 2’s, 9’s have strong desire to have relationships. Is that true for you? What relationships have been the most challenging and/or rewarding? 10) What are some mindfulness tools that are your go to for recharging and decompressing? In short, what is your self care protocol?
11) What myths about enneagram 9 would you like to shatter? 12) 9’s tend to be homebodies. Is it true for you? Is it the same with your yoga practice? Do you prefer a home practice over one in the studio?

In this interview we spend time exploring the Enneagram & Yoga with Michelle Dunn-Loveless. She is a recovering rebel with an outlaw spirit, your typical Enneagram 8 who lived life in the fast lane and has been cultivating growth towards her inner two since the birth of her darling daughters. This passion to leave an imprint on the world led Michelle into teaching where she taught in the public schools for over ten years. A life-long learner and educator, Michelle earned her masters in education, a 200-hour yoga certification, and most recently a 500-hour certification specializing in Kundalini Yoga. She teaches paddle board yoga with Outshine Adventures, Yin + Meditation and Kundalini Yoga at Yoga landing. Not only does Michelle teach, she and her wife own Outshine Adventures: Eco Tours + Travel to inspire others to adventure differently. Full-time, Michelle works as an educator at a local nonprofit that removes barriers to birth control by providing education, outreach, and access to free birth control - proving to the world she can do it all! Here are some of the questions we asked Michelle of you want to spend time meditating on them. 1) What does being bold mean to you? 2) How challenging is it to let your walls down? 3) Do you resist being vulnerable because vulnerability equals weakness? 4) Oftentimes, passion and intensity of 8’s is wrongly perceived as aggressive and controlling. How do you deal with this misconception, especially as a woman? 5) Advocacy, fairness, honesty, authenticity are just few things that are very important to an 8. What area of life would you like to leave the most impact in? 6) Oftentimes, 8’s struggle with asking for help. When was the last time you asked for help? What was it for? How did it make you feel? 7) Sometimes 8’s struggle with showing emotion out of fear of being weak. When was the last time you got really emotional? What was it about? 8) Enneagram 8s struggle with vulnerability. What are some emotions that you wish you had expressed to others in the past, but have been too afraid to? 9)Enneagram 8's are known for loving the intensity of a good argument and like a 1 they can be prone to black and white thinking when they argue. Is this true for you and if so how do you tone down the intensity in an argument and also the need to be right?
10) The arrow of growth for the Enneagram 8 is the two and so 8's benefit from softening their hearts. What yoga pose opens up your heart and moves you from being a bear to a teddy bear? 11) The deadly passion of the Enneagram 8 is lust. This lust is necessarily sexual and can most often be defined as a lust for power and control. How has the Enneagram helped you to let go of power and control and be more collaborative? 12) The needed childhood message of the 8 is you will be protected or you will not be betrayed. Were either if those messages ones you could have heard more of as a child or even as an adult?

Allison is a textbook 5 (all 5s love being compared to textbooks, seriously) who leans heavily into her 4 wing. She describes herself as an introverted, chronic thinker plagued with extroverted tendencies. It’s a tough life. She is the proud mother of two stellar teenagers and has been married to her beloved Type 2 husband for 23 years. Allison graduated summa cum laude with her Doctor of Pharmacy in 2002 and set off to blaze trails but discovered along the way that something was missing. In 2014, what she now understands as her 4 wing begging to be set free, called her live creatively by becoming a fashion stylist. Through this work, she helps women change their negative self-perceptions by helping them feel good in what they wear. She struggled with the paradox of her two careers and felt that she couldn’t possibly do both until she learned more about herself through the Enneagram. She now understands that each job brings satisfaction to different parts of her being and helps her live life fully. If not at one of her kids’ sporting events, you’ll find her splitting her time between being a pharmacist and fashion stylist and loving every minute. You can follow her on IG @styledandprofiled or feel free to reach out to her at allisonlowry14@gmail.com...She really does love meeting new people :-)
Check out these questions we asked Allison and perhaps spend some time journaling or processing these for yourself.
Knowledge, learning, observation, intellect, logic are some of the words that may resonate strongly with a 5. When did you first knew you had a desire to gain knowledge? Do you have a childhood or adolescence memory about that you can share with our listeners?
5’s can sometimes get caught up in a need to know everything inside of just knowing where to find it. Do you ever find yourself experiencing the internal pressure of needing to know everything? If yes, how do you combat it?
As a 5, do you recognize when you sound like a know-it-all? What do you do when it happens?
Sometimes 5’a can feel drained after being around people. How do you avoid energy depletion? How do you recharge yourself?
How do you show love and how do you feel loved?
Since 5’s can seem withdrawn, quiet, reserved, people around may have misconceptions about them. What would you want people to know about being a 5? The good, bad or ugly!
The talk style of the 5 is often called dissertations. 5's have alot of wisdom and knowledge to impart to the world. And yet for many 5's underneath their love of learning and all the books on their shelves is a fear of incompetence. Is a fear of incompetence something you feel from time to time and if so, could you describe when this surfaces for you and how you are working to let go of this fear?
What mantra are you most drawn to that helps you as a 5?
Avarice is the deadly passion of the 5 and this can show up as withholding time, money, resources, knowledge or affection from others. How do you withholding from others and how are you working in this?
Fives can sometimes be pretty disconnected from their bodies and so practicing yoga can connect them to their body and eventually connecting to the body can be a pathway to the heart for a 5. What is a physical practice in your life that helps you connect to the body?
Fives are often the first to leave a social event and they have a tendency to withdraw from others. How are you working on staying longer in social situations, instead of running away from them?
