Age verification laws are less about protecting minors and more about creating comprehensive surveillance infrastructure that threatens everyone's digital privacy. They are often marketed with the stereotypical “think of the children” argument to goad people into believing that there aren’t any ulterior motives to their request. We tend to believe that technology is not neutral, but this is not the case. Every algorithm, every piece of decision logic, every heuristic, is developed by humans with their own opinions, biases, and beliefs. Now a days, with subscriptions and stock prices being the name of the game, companies seem more focused on marginal and incremental updates and improvements rather than radical new changes or break-through performance. Context and relevancy is key when it comes to anything; and, just because two machines are equally priced, comparing them apples to apples isn’t always relevant. Unfortunately, technology reviews and those in Tech Twitter and Tech YouTube tend to lack context, and sometimes relevancy, when it comes to their reviews and comparisons of the latest tech. Unlike them, most of us don’t have the latest and greatest devices; and, seeing how much faster the newest chip is compared to the one from last year doesn’t mean much to the rest of us that are running 5-7yr+ old machines. In this episode we’re diving into to how to improve tech reviews and how to add more context to the reviews. We’ll even go through an example of how big of a role context plays in your next purchase decision if you plan on upgrading your system. We’re also breaking down why just because two machines are equally priced, doesn’t mean comparing them apples to apples is relevant. All of this, and more, on this episode of The Dark Assassins Podcast.
