Do you feel the tension?

When you pause, do you feel it?

Like you’re in a race, rushing towards an unseen goal, and you don’t even know where you’re going?

You feel that life is whizzing by. That there are so many expectations and demands from all angles. That you’re expected to be a successful career woman, a caring and supportive Mum, a sexy and attentive partner, a helpful daughter, a fabulous friend, and a social media star – all the while running the household smoothly (shopping, cooking, paying bills, washing, cleaning, tidying) ... Woah!

And yet, I deeply believe that your one precious life is not meant to lived running on a treadmill, feeling exhausted but pushing on regardless.

I believe that it is possible to live with joy and ease, with humour rather than frustration, with flow rather than stress, with lightly held structure rather than overwhelm.

Join me as we explore this today.

When someone invites you to go out , how do you feel?

Are you excited to be going out?

Or did you actually enjoy the pandemic as an excuse to say no to certain invitations?

Nowadays, most people seem to have stopped worrying about covid. And so the social invitations have started flowing again. And that will only increase as we get closer to the festive season.

So I wonder – how are you reacting to that?

If you’re struggling to re-engage socially, I have great news for you. You’re not alone. In fact, it’s so common that there are many psychologists around the world researching this very phenomenon.

Join me today, to get some clarity and then to wind down to the weekend with compassion.

Will you be out having fun with family or friends on the weekend?

And are you spending more time at home alone than you would prefer?

According to the research, many people are not connecting to family and friends the way they used to, and this sense of disconnection can cause you to feel lonely or flat. You get to the weekend and part of you wants to be with others, but another part puts on the brakes. It’s all too hard.

Someone I admire who explored this very question was Viktor Frankl. He suffered immensely as a prisoner during World War II, including losing his closest family members. As a transformational coach, some of you have asked me to teach you a little something in our weekend wind down. So starting today I’ll start each wind down with a tip of the week. Something simple for you to experiment with during the coming week.

Today’s tip and meditation are inspired by the Buddhist monk Thich Nhat Hahn, and one of the meditations from his book “Being Peace”.

If you have enjoyed this podcast, please share a link with a friend, to help spread the peace and joy. If you have any suggestions, I would love to hear from you at  connect@MyJoyfulLife.com.au

Welcome to the weekend wind-down, a time to relax, let go of the stress of the week, create some moments of peace and calm and get ready for the weekend.

This week I invite you to get playful and imagine – what would your love your life to look like, if you could imagine the best weekend you can imagine. Get curious and playful. There are so many possibilities.

And as always, I invite you to create an intention for the weekend. What would give your weekend a little more joy or fun or connection?

Welcome to the weekend wind-down, a time to relax, let go of the stress of the week and get ready for the weekend.

This week I invite you to practice self-acceptance. It's the healthiest way to treat yourself, and will ripple out into how you feel about yourself, into your relationships and beyond.

And as always, what is your intention for the weekend?

Welcome to the weekend wind down, a time to relax, let go of stress, embrace compassion and get ready for the weekend.

Everyone around the world needs compassion at this very moment, so today I invite you to spend time receiving compassion for yourself, and sending compassion into the world.

And then I invite you to ask

What you are looking forward to this weekend?

What do you want this weekend?

And out of all that arises for you, what is your intention for the weekend? If you set an intention, you are much more likely to make time for what will fill up your cup - ready for the new week ahead.

Wishing you a wonderful weekend!

Welcome to the weekend wind down, a time to slow down, relax and get ready for the weekend. As well as breathing out the stress of the week, I invite you to think of something you are grateful for this week, and really soak in that gratitude.

Did you know that our brains have a natural bias to the negative? And that, together with all that is happening in the world around us, needs a big dose of positive to balance our energy.

So today and every day this week, I invite you to not just remember positive moments, but really soak them in, re-imagining them with all of your senses.

What are you grateful for today?

Welcome  to the weekend wind down, a time to relax, let go of the stress and frustration of the week and get ready for a wonderful weekend.

Today I invite you to dream of life as you would love it to be, asking yourself "Wouldn't it be awesome if ..."

Let's use this time of lockdown to dream and hope and plan, and then begin to take small steps so that one day our dreams can become reality.

I wonder what would make life awesome for you?

Do you like receiving a gift?

Me too! So today in your guided meditation I invite you to join me on a journey in your imagination. A journey through the bush or the woods. I wonder what you will find there?

And, as always, because it is such a powerful way to nurture the wonderful woman within you, I invite you to take time to listen to that little voice within:

  • What do you want this weekend?

  • What do you need?

  • What would bring you joy?

  • And from all that arises, what is your intention for the weekend?

If you are enjoying these guided reflections, please tell your friends so that more people can find these meditations. My hope is that as more people join us, we will send ripples of calm, courage and compassion through our families, our community and right around the world.

Wishing you a fabulous weekend!

Today's guided reflection is inspired by an interview I heard today with Dr Carol Dweck, who is Psychology Professor at Stanford Uni and researcher into motivation and what helps us achieve success.

She says that having the courage to face our challenges and doing hard things actually builds new neural connections in your brain.

A question inspired by Dr Dweck: Have you had a fantastic, valiant struggle this week?

Yes? If so, I encourage you to celebrate that you engaged with something challenging. You grew your courage and you also built some extra internal resilience and your neural network by doing that. Well done!

And, as always, I encourage you to get in touch with your heart - what do you want this weekend? What do you need? I invite you to set an intention for the weekend. And please tell someone else - family or friend - because that will make it more likely that you will do what you have decided would be great to do.

Have a fabulous weekend!

Welcome to the weekend wind down. Are you feeling stressed? Are you anxious about life or worried about the pandemic?

I encourage you to take time to look after yourself. I encourage you to slow down, care for yourself and appreciate what you do have to be grateful for.

I invite you to take time to listen to that little voice within - What do you want this weekend? What do you need? And from all that arises, what is your intention for the weekend?

Please share your intention for the weekend with a friend, because sharing your intention will make it so much more likely that you will actually do it!

Wishing you a fabulous weekend!

Welcome to the weekend wind-down, a time to relax, let go of stress and get ready for the weekend.

This weekend here in Sydney is the middle of the school holidays, and also the middle of (at least) 2 weeks of lockdown. So this week, I invite you to travel in your imagination to wherever you would love to be, and to really enjoy the sights and sounds.

And then I invite you to set an intention for the weekend - What do you want? What do you need?

And you can travel in your imagination any day, wherever you are, at any time, so I hope today's guided reflection inspires you to feel a little less restricted, and a little more free to go wherever the fancy takes you - at least in your imagination.

Have a fabulous weekend!

Today I invite you to start the weekend with calm and kindness - for yourself and your loved ones - and to allow yourself to embrace rest and relaxation this weekend. Did you know that rest can be a great strategy, because as you rest, you let your body heal and get stronger. By doing that, you give yourself better health and therefore more energy to do all the things which bring you happiness.

So today, let's pause and relax, letting go of stress, inviting in calm and kindness and setting an intention to get more of what you do want this weekend.

What is your intention for the weekend? Please share if there is a comments box below.

Welcome to the Weekend Wind Down, a guided meditation to help you to let go of the stress of the week, and to set an intention for the weekend.

This is the first of what will be a weekly reflection, because I love helping stressed out and anxious women like you to create moments of calm in your day, and intentionally build replenishment into your weekends.

Today I invite you to slow down with some deep breaths, become mindful of your body, send compassion to yourself and your loved ones, look back over your week and set an intention for your weekend.

This episode is so jam packed with juicy goodness that it is over 11 minutes long. I will aim to make future episodes about 5-8 minutes.

I have published this as an audio file so you can listen and enjoy anywhere - on the bus, waiting in a queue, wherever you are. Enjoy!
