We can all relate to the fact that we thought we had our lives all planned out at the beginning of our adult journey. In our naivety, we thought that nothing could side-track us from our goals or dreams. Then life happened and we end up detouring, sidetracking, and or moving on a whole other trajectory. This episode with Vasco Nelson shares the challenges and circumstances that cause us to detour from our initial plans. While these changes might seem negative or disappointing at first they might end up being a significant blessing in disguise.

It is clear that life is going to do what life's gonna do. Now, this is not to say that we sit back and do nothing, but some seasons require us to be still and trust that whatever we have put out whether it is in our personal, professional, and or financial life we all have to trust the processes. This is not easy when there is a lot that seems to be at stake it can leave you feeling hopeless, defeated, and broken, this is where you might just have to face those feelings and go through pain.  Because living in denial does not change anything, it simply delays the inevitable. So, as difficult as this crossroads may seem sometimes the only option is to just surrender to the processes.

We all face some level of rejection at some point in our lives. How we choose to deal with these moments of rejection can truly impact our outlook on life, people, and or the situations that contributed to that feeling. For some of us, we have faced rejection from an early age so we have now created barriers to guard our hearts and minds against those experiences. The challenge is rejection is inevitable and how we seek to view these rejections will either cripple or catapult us to the next direction on our journey. It is coming to that realization that rejection does not determine your worth, but simply redefines the strength we did not realize we possessed.

There are life lessons to learn as different things happen to occur on our journey, but as we trod along we can pick up the pieces and start again. Life is not a straight path with a set trajectory and living with that knowledge helps us to set realistic expectations of ourselves while living rewarding and successful lives. This imperfect life we live is a journey we choose daily whether we quit, fall, or have to start again.

As women, we face challenges in all aspects of society and culture. In some instances, it is more challenging for others than it is for some. This episode is not to generalize every black woman's experience. However, it is to shed light on some of the challenges we face as black women and to empower us to stand in solidarity with each other. It is important for us as women to realize that representation matters, especially when society has created a systematically false perception of who or what defines a black woman.

This conversation is around self-worth and empowering black women to be bold and unapologetically true to who they are. Asher Deans shares her own story highlighting the positives of being a confident black woman who knows and values her worth. Essentially a black woman who is comfortable in her own skin. Demystifying the angry black woman terminology and rewriting the narrative of the self-aware and confident black woman. Yes, the focus of this episode is on empowering black women, but our hope is that others will listen and gain insight into the challenges that black women do face in culture and become allies rather than spectators in the matter. It is high time for us to see that culture is not as black and white as we think, but there are many different shades and grey.
