Blood magic is associated with black magic but it isn't always dark. It's something to be used as a last resort. Today we just scratched the surface of this form of magic and we should be delving into it more. We aren't suggesting you try this on your own and if you do, proceed with caution.

Welcome back. Just an FYI: tonight's a bit longer as we welcome back Helen Marie Powell as we discuss witchcraft and Voodoo. I apologize if I got the definition of warlock wrong, I was going by memory of what I had heard was the original definition. Sorcerer was mentioned which is usually male but also high magick. Walter mentioned American Horror Story: Coven which took place in New Orleans which is known for Voodoo. You will find many Voodoo shops in the French Quarter, albeit a bit touristy, but fun. Walter also told us about Mary Oneida Toups who founded the Religious Order of Witchcraft the first coven to be chartered in Louisiana as a religious organization. I may be related to her since my maternal grandfather was a Toups.

Welcome back to the show. Sorry about the lack of music, things happen. I'm thinking about changing it anyway.

We had an unexpected guest of Walter's chime in tonight with his personal experiences. I think he's moving to our area so we may hear more from him. We're talking about why we do this podcast and investigations. For one, there's unfortunately still a stigma attached to these topics, be it ghosts, UFO/UAP, cryptids, etc., and we're trying to get people to be more comfortable with them. When people find out what we do, many times they open up to us. We're talking complete strangers who open up to us about their experiences. Amazing really.

He's going to tell us all about Skinwalkers including a bit about the famous SkinWalker Ranch. That place has some stuff going on! Really curious about the mesa and the Triangle area. Guess we will have to wait until they figure it out. We discuss Native American lore about the Skinwalker and the different types from each tribe. Apparently, they're common to many of the tribes with different names and possibly different traits.

Tonights beverage is Tram-Mosa, a Virginia white wine. Henry requested wine for tonight so I obliged. It's a bit sweet which he likes. Welcome back to the chase.

We went to a local winery that is rather haunted. This place has a lot of activity. It was originally a plantation built in 1837 by the Southhall family. On the grounds are unmarked graves of the slaves, possibly unmarked graves of soldiers, a former jail cell in the basement of the house, and at one point was used as a field hospital for the Battle of Sailors Creek. The Battle of Sailors Creek was fought about 4 miles from the property. There is still a large blood stain on the floor of the room used as the surgery. The story is a Union officer bled out on the floor in that spot. General Lee had dinner there before he surrendered. With all the trauma that took place there, unmarked graves and such, there are some restless spirits there and unexplained occurrences.

Welcome back!

We took a roadtrip to the Crawford Rd Bridge in Yorktown, VA. Let's just say that it did NOT disappoint! The bridge itself and the road underneath it is covered with lots of graffiti. The location is fairly rural but there are houses not too far from it. The dowsing rods went crazy, we caught a few EVP's, and some stuff on the SLS camera app. We were there at dusk and had to leave at twilight because Henry, our sensitive, was getting overwhelmed and needed to get out of there. We're going to have to start working on how to protect him from this stuff. So we went to the Yorktown Pub for a drink and a bite to eat. We recommend that place-good food, good drinks, friendly staff. Oh and Henry brought along his friends from the bridge to the pub. And apparently those Civil War soldiers enjoyed the pub. Go figure.

This episode's beverage is apple cider and Fireball. A taste of autumn, our favorite season.

The team went to the Virginia Renaissance Festival Memorial Day weekend. Three of us dressed in garb, two didn't. So much more fun when dressed up! It was a record-breaking attendance day for the festival! It was crowded but didn't feel crowded; more vendors this year which is good. It was the first Renaissance faire for Ryan, and he loved it. Think I may have another convert. Renaissance festivals are something we enjoy doing. People watching, shinies, food, drink, entertainment-just a few of our favorite things!

Welcome back. In this show, we're going to Broadway to talk about the haunted theaters there. Ryan Billings who is a theater major at Adelphi University is going to tell us about a few of these haunts. This is Ryan's 3rd time being on the show; starting to think that I'm going to have to start paying him somehow! It'll look good on his resume.

Ryan provided tonight's cocktail the Ozmopolitan, think the musical 'Wicked'. It's apple vodka, melon liqueur, lime, and lemon juice. Shaken over ice, strained into a cocktail glass. I added a bit of simple syrup to cut the tartness a bit and give it a bit of balance. Needless to say, it's very green. It's a sipping drink.

Once again we are joined by James Johnson, this time to talk about Mars. This time we don't go into conspiracy theories but more into the scientific aspects of what's happening on Mars. We touched on space travel, why it's important that we go to Mars, and what will be the driving force behind going to the Red Planet. If you guess money, you're correct. It's going to be very expensive with the primary expense being water. If water is found on Mars that will help with the cost but if not, well it will become more expensive. Thanks for stopping by and giving a listen. We're talking about Edgar Alan Poe and his death on this episode. Poe's death is still a mystery. There are several theories surrounding it including rabies. The circumstances leading up to his death are mysterious. How did he end up on the street in someone else's ragged clothes, unconscious? He was taken to the local hospital where he lingered for four days. Unfortunately, we can't rely on his attending physicians notes because of the lack of inconsistencies. The man's story changed in each telling. Not a good thing in a physician. After his death Poe has been sighted at several places in Baltimore, the Bronx and other places he visited. Poe has been known to get around in his afterlife.

Continuing with Shepherdstown, WV ghosts we talk a little more about Connor. His story really touched Henry. Agreed that it is a sad story and we did what we could for his spirit while there.

We leave WV and head over to Clifton, VA for the story of Bunny Man. It's an urban legend that may have a bit of truth. But most legends have a tiny bit of truth that gets embellished as time goes on. Think of the fishing stories and how the fish gets bigger and bigger each time the tale is told.

Next is the infamous Crawford Rd in Yorktown, VA. From Revolutionary War battle sounds to a suicidal jilted bride can be experienced there.

I foresee another road trip or two in our near future to Crawford Rd and Bunny Man bridge.

Shepherdstown, WV, what to say about that charming, quaint mountain town that's full to the brim with history & ghosts? New St is rather active even though we didn't see anything but there was a noticeable temperature drop when we got there. I did get a chill once or twice there. Shepherdstown Mystery Walks is the tour we took. Very well done, the tour guide is very knowledgeable, friendly, approachable, and dresses in period clothing. We met with her before the tour where we got a bit more than what is told on the tour.

On the drive up we stopped off at a winery for a break, talked to the staff about the show, and got more ghost stories from the staff. Jeff opened up the SLS app on his phone, scanned the room, and found a small entity standing under the bar. It was child-sized. The building is new, so we're thinking it was part of the land, passing through, native, etc.

The Airbnb we stayed in had an entity hanging around the ceiling fan. I heard a bang like a door slamming or something wooden. The footsteps Henry heard were debunked-people living in the apartment upstairs.

Beverage: Charm City Wildflower mead. Very light, and good for a hot day.

Wee people, fairies, fae, fairfolk are a few names for fairies. As you can tell by the title, fairies are primarily from Celtic countries but other countries have something similar but tonight we're concentrating on the Celts.

Fairy is a broad category encompassing fairies, elves, trolls, brownies, leprechauns, etc. and they aren't all cute, sweet little creatures. Some of them can be a bit vindictive, and there are some that are mischievous. Pranksters if you will.

We did stay on topic for once this time, with no rabbit holes. But I enjoy rabbit holes sometimes.

Another Irish legend we're exploring tonight-the Banshee. Banshees are attached to the ancient Irish families therefore have been around a long time.

As usual we went down an unrelated rabbit hole but we found our way back. Maybe 2 rabbit holes. We went to an oddities show over the weekend where we spent way too much money but found some fun stuff. It was Henry's first oddities show and he had a lot of fun shopping and looking. It's great people watching. We put a pics from the show on Facebook and Twitter. Soon to publish video from it. As soon as I get it edited.

Cocktail: Screaming Banshee-1/2 ounce each creme de banana, creme de cacao, 1oz rum, 2oz half & half, dry shake, pour over ice, top off with club soda. Garnish with banana and cherry.

Leap Castle has been around for about 700yrs and its history is rather bloody. Warring clans, fighting between brothers, power struggles, love affairs, murder, and children's deaths all make for potential hauntings. There's even an Elemental spirit that haunts the grounds. People aren't sure how the Elemental got there. It may have always been there or possibly put there by the Druids to protect the land which was a sacred space for them. The Amish like many other groups have a dark side and it isn't talked about too much. Most groups keep their darkness, well, in the dark, especially to outsiders. Their particular religious beliefs play a significant role in these stories. Witches, demons, apparitions, exorcisms, the Amish have their share. It just goes to show that every culture has its supernatural side.

January 24, 2023 we took a ghost tour at Centre Hill Mansion in Petersburg VA. Every January 24 a group of Union soldiers march into the house, go upstairs, stay for 20mins then leave, slamming the door as they go out. You're supposed to be able to hear them including their sabers banging against the stair rail. Unfortunately, we didn't hear anything. I blame it on the group outside the front door laughing and talking loudly.  But we did hear other stories of ghostly activities.

Centre Hill Mansion is a beautiful pre-Civil War house that was featured in the PBS series 'Mercy Street'. They offer tours throughout the year, but the ghost tour is only offered on January 24 for the visitation of the ghostly Union soldiers.

On January 24 we took a road trip to the Centre Hill Mansion in Petersburg VA. Centre Hill Mansion is known for a visitation of Union soldiers on January 24 at 7:30 pm. They walk in the front door, go up the stairs to a meeting, 20 minutes later they descend the stairs, exit and slam the door on the way out.  Unfortunately, we didn't hear anything and I blame it on the very loud laughter and conversation that was taking place outside the front door. They were just rude! We took the ghost tour which we enjoyed. There's more ghostly activity than just the soldiers walking in and out.

If you're ever in the Richmond, VA area, we recommend taking the 30min drive south to Petersburg and visiting Centre Hill Mansion. If you have seen the PBS series 'Mercy Street' you will recognize the house. It was the setting for the Green family's home.

We did take some video of the ghost tour which is on YouTube

Little footage of the WW Pool mausoleum at Hollywood Cemetery in Richmond VA. He is the Richmond Vampire, even though he's only been reported to have been seen only once. He was seen at the collapse of the Church Hill Tunnel. A muscular figure with skin hanging from his frame and jagged teeth was seen hunched over another body. This figure then ran away and hid in the Pool mausoleum. Pool was also kicked out of England for being a vampire. So his reputation followed him.

Shepherdstown, WV is a quaint mountain town that has its share of haunted history. I would say 90% of the hauntings are Civil War related. The town saw 2 battles within a few days of each other. If correct, the entire town of about 400 buildings at the time was used as a hospital including alleyways.  As we know surgical techniques at the time weren't as sophisticated as they are today plus hygiene. There was very little washing of hands between patients, if any. There's a haunted clock tower on the college campus; a picture of which is on our FaceBook page.  Jeff and I visited Shepherdstown Thanksgiving weekend and I made a quick visit there by myself one day recently. I was in the area for work so I made a side trip.

This evening's beverage is Shiner Bock beer from Shiner, TX. It pairs well with chili, in fact, I put a bottle of it in the chili while it was cooking.

Two different stories about the American Civil War-a young man who passed before his prime & is wanting to join the fun but can't, & a well-respected & liked Confederate officer. The young man's tale is heartbreaking thinking about all he missed out on in life. The officer is sad but he got to live his life.

We decided to record this episode at one of our favorite wineries, one of our happy places-Ashton Creek Vineyard in Chester, VA. Good food and excellent Virginia wines. Their wines have received several awards. They let us record in the barn, their event space, but other patrons loudly interrupted us. Because of that, we had to cut it short. Sorry if the end was a bit abrupt but that's show biz.

If you're ever in Virginia, take a short drive south of the James River to Ashton Creek Vineyard for excellent wine & food. The staff is very friendly & knowledgeable. The wines range from dry to sweet in both red & white,

The Mari Lwyd-a decorated horse's skull on a pole, draped with a sheet that challenges people to a rap battle in order to gain entry to the house for food and drink. Any excuse for a party!

Wassail-traditional drink consumed during the winter. Hot cider, oj, spices, possibly spirits. So good on a cold day!

And a Victorian tradition that needs to return-ghost stories at Christmas. Henry tells one in this episode.

To go along with the theme for this episode, we're drinking wassail, at least my version of it. Honey crisp apple cider, oj, cranberry juice cocktail, pomegranate juice, mulling spices & spiked with Devils Due Rye. Damn near perfect. Of course, you can eliminate the Rye for those who don't or can't have alcohol.

Devils Due Distillery is in Kearneysville, WV. All their ingredients are locally sourced. We discovered them the last time I was in the area for work. And I need to go back to replenish our stock of their products. They have some of the best Apple pie moonshine ever!

Krampus Nacht! Krampus is St Nick's evil sidekick or as I like to think of him-St Nick's punisher. Krampus has been around a bit in the Alps and Bavarian areas of Europe. Drum roll, please! We did a video of this episode, which will be released on YouTube later this week, hopefully—just waiting on our video man to finish the editing.

Please excuse the editing on this episode, I tried to remove as much unnecessary stuff as I could like rustling leaves, walking between hot spots and extraneous chat.

Grayhaven Winery, this week's sponsor, is one of our favorite Virginia wineries. Jeff and I got married there last year and in the course of the wedding planning we became good friends with the owners/winemakers. On one of our visits we were told that the winery and grounds are haunted. Need less to say that peaked our interests. Grayhaven is built on the site of a former plantation. Onsite there are 2 graveyards-one for the white folks, the other for the slaves. As was the practice of the time, the slave graves aren't marked, you have to know where they are & what to look for. We were told of the personal experiences of Max, owner/winemaker and she has had a few including being touched.

Before going on our walk through the property, Max fed us delicious corn chowder and Grayhaven wine! BTW Grayhaven is just north of Richmond, VA and we strongly encourage anyone who likes wine to go visit them. When the weather is good with a chill in the air you can sit outside by a bonfire drinking mulled wine. Their mulled wine is the best!

As you can tell by the title, Henry doesn't like the woods or at least he didn't that night!

When the weather is warmer, we will return for part 2.

In the charming town of Niagra-on-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada is an old inn called 'The Olde Angel Inn'. It's a British-style pub with British pub grub and of course beverages. It's also haunted by Capt Colin Swayze who was killed there one night hiding from American soldiers. He was there for one last rendezvous with his lady love. It's a charming inn with delicious food and good drinks.

Across the border, in Rochester, NY there is the White Lady's Castle. Yes, a lady in white. We visited there but we didn't see her. There were a lot of people there doing photo shoots (a beautiful spot for that).  Legend is she usually appears to nubile young things, which we aren't, or couples who are canoodling, which we weren't.

Jeff and I did this while on vacation. We didn't know anything about the Olde Angel Inn being haunted until we got there and found something on the table about it. So vacation turned into something of a field trip.

This episode's cocktail is the classic Pina Colada. The colonists drank rum so we thought we would partake in something that was available at the time. The rum we drank was Viargo Four Port Rum, a luscious dark rum distilled in Richmond VA. We do our best to support local small businesses.

We decided to go down a different path and talk about dreams. Interesting? Can be. Prophetic? Perhaps. Or maybe it's your mind's way of processing what is going on with your daily life. I can't remember what we were drinking in that episode! It's been a rough week. The current assignment I'm on can't end soon enough! 9 more working days and I am done!!!

This time we're going to Perryville,KY the site of one of the bloodiest Civil War battles. Yes, we realize all battles are bloody but this one was particularly bad. Most of the hauntings center around one particular house which was a field hospital but the whole town seems to be haunted. Sam, a dead soldier, is seen somewhat frequently.

She's everywhere! By everywhere I mean global. The Lady in White aka The White Lady. Always dressed in a white dress, long hair, walking along a lonely stretch of road by herself. A ghostly hitchhiker if you will. Her story always involves some sort of tragedy or heartbreak.

Oh! notice our new cover art! A catsitter, graphic arts student we know. We hired her to cat sit and found out she's studying graphic design.

No cocktail tonight but drinking Southern Cross Spiced Rum on the rocks. It's a warm and cozy, fall in a glass rum.

One of my favorite topics-vampires, nosferatu, shtriga, vrykolakas, strigoi, and a few other names from other parts of the world. It seems that vampires are global. Today we're discussing a little bit about lore and modern vampire culture. Yes, there are people who think they are vampires, more psychic energy vampires than anything else. But a few out there indulge in blood consumption but keep it on the down low.  Sanguinarian vampires are on the fringe anyway. It seems the people in the vampire community are more there for role-playing anyway. 'Normal' person by day, vampire by night.

Just an FYI: when this was recorded your friendly cat-herder here was very tired, getting frustrated and very easily irritated. The boys decided to drink Modelo beer instead of the cocktail I had planned for the evening. I think Jeff brought me a wine slushy from Ashton Creek Vineyard (big fav of mine) but that didn't help.

We did this unprepared and just started talking about exorcism, and untrained exorcists, and let the conversation lead the way. Our drink for the night was Formerly Known As from Funktastic Mead in Midlothian, VA. If you're in the area, we highly recommend them. These guys have something new every time we visit. The label on this bottle has Prince's symbol as part of the art and purple, of course.

Remember to find us on Facebook, Twitter, and Patreon. We're looking into buying equipment for proper ghost hunting & supporting small businesses like Funktastic Meads, Ashton Creek Vineyards, and Reservoir Distillery, you get the picture.

Getting into demonic possession this time around with an appropriately named cocktail-Demon Possession. We discuss the Catholic church's take on the phenomenon along with other faiths or religions like the Buddahist.  We don't go too, too deep into it, I mean there's a lot out there on this topic but bring up some interesting points.

Remember to follow us on Facebook, Twitter, and now (drum roll please) Patreon! Making cocktails and going on field trips is getting expensive ya know! So if you like what we do and want more, subscribe, review (as long as it's a good one), play these episodes and if you're feeling it, become a patron on Patreon.

Cheers

Today we’re taking a look at the urban legend of Black Eyed Kids aka BEK. We’ve been intrigued by them ever since we heard about them but we weren’t sure what to make of them. Because of that we decided to do a show & see what we can figure out if anything. The cocktail of the hour or less is a BEK made with blackberry lemonade moonshine from Country Hammer, made in Pennsylvania. Mix that with a lemon lime soda and you have a refreshing summer drink.
