Below are the links for the statistics and studies that Clark and Laura mention. One slight clarification: in the podcast, it is stated that when comparing the mental health profiles of TIY (transgender-identifying youth) and non-TIY, the statistics of sicidal behavior are "the same". The line from the second article below provides clarification: "[when comparing the mental health profiles of TIY and non-TIY,] the disparities in sicidal behavior reduced considerably, suggesting that it is not the lack of gender affirmation that seems to be driving s*icidal behavior." Key emphasis on "disparities" and "reduced considerably", as opposed to "[are] the same".

Catholics get a lot of flak for not knowing the Bible.
If all of us Christians should take our Scripture-reading more seriously (we should!), which translation should we use?
Clark and Laura flesh out the best (and worst) translations of the Bible for all Christians, in their opinion, in this episode of The Simpleton Podcast.

Introducing: Just Homes.
Just Homes (founded by Clark and launching in 2022) is a new ministry that will focus on providing housing for those who would not be able to secure housing under any other means: most often, these are the long-term mentally ill.
In this episode, Clark and Laura discuss the new endeavor, what it does differently from A Simple House, and how the two will work together to serve those in need.

Gunshots, going (almost) broke, and a whole lot of God's providence.
These are all things Clark and Laura encountered in their first years at A Simple House.
In this episode, the duo shares stories and looks back on how a "just trust and make it happen" outlook created a ministry that still carries the same mission 18 years after its humble beginnings.

How did the Catholic Church respond in the years following the 2002 Boston Globe article exposing the sex abuse crisis?
In this fourth and final episode of The Simpleton Podcast’s series on the Catholic sex abuse scandal, Clark and Laura summarize the reasons sex abuse became such an institutional problem and how the Church reformed in response.
They also discuss the 2018 Pennsylvania Grand Jury Report, which analyses the scandal within six dioceses of the Church in Pennsylvania and the systemic cover-up of the abuse.
Please excuse the audio quality in this singular episode. Technical difficulties resulted in having to rely on the original Zoom footage. We absolutely believe the content is still worth sharing.

Clark and Laura share stories and insights from their time spent serving with one of the most formative ministries for both A Simple House and for themselves personally, Exodus Youth Services. Exodus was based in Washington, DC and focused on leading Bible studies for kids in project neighborhoods. Clark and Laura discuss the impact of meeting those families and how Exodus influenced the starting of A Simple House.
(At the end of the episode, Clark mentions an upcoming episode focused on the Catholic Worker Movement. We flipped around the order of our first few episodes, and Ep. #1 of The Simpleton Podcast is now the one Clark is referring to. Go check it out!)
