I think everyone has seen those late-night infomercials claiming to solve some medical issue with a pill or power for three easy payments of $19.99... And you know what, they probably work! But not in the way you think. There's a multimillion dollar industry that takes advantage of one classic phenomena... The Placebo Effect.
These substances and treatments can be used to provide piece of mind and especially when used to treat self-limiting conditions that would heal themselves anyway. Before you put off seeing your doctor for some holistic remedy you found online, WATCH THIS VIDEO!

In this episode I talk about what I consider to be a very dangerous topic: healthcare professionals refusing to treat people who have not gotten fully vaccinated for COVID-19. This, of course, goes against how I believe healthcare professionals should conduct themselves, but even beyond that, it goes against the fabric of how the healthcare industry has operated for generations. As a society, if we say it’s okay not to treat people because of their own personal choices, then we’ll find ourselves quickly withholding care based on nothing more than how your doctor may feel about you. Is that really what we want?

Yes, the COVID-19 pandemic is finally coming to an end. Unfortunately, this doesn't mean it's gone for good but all signs point to the coronavirus becoming more and more like the common cold rather than a deadly virus. What does this mean for the future? What can we expect from the vaccine strategy moving forward? Is natural immunity key? I go over all of this and more in today's episode.

In the last episode I made about the Do Not Resuscitate (DNR) Status I go over exactly what DNR is, when someone should choose DNR status and why. I also went deep into the research to find out what really happens to people who choose DNR status. My findings were surprising and unsettling to say the least revealing that some healthcare professionals read "do not resuscitate" as "do not treat." If you missed this episode, click here: https://youtu.be/14tOdqdbZjI
Since publishing that episode, I've been asked by many people what they can do if they still want to choose DNR status but also still want to receive the best treatment and care. That's what today's episode is all about. There is a time and place to use DNR that prevents an amazing amount of human suffering but as the patient, or advocate for a patient, you need to be aware of the downsides and how to go about getting the care you deserve.

If doctor offices are claiming to use electronic health records, why is that when you go in for a visit you are still handed a clipboard?
Electronic health records have been around for over ten years now yet studies show that doctors are spending an astounding amount of time per patient filling out these records. In today's episode, I go over what electronic health records are, the pros and cons of using electronic health records, my unique insight into why electronic health records are the way they are and a proposed solution to making them more efficient for the patient and the doctor.

What does the airline industry, cell phone industry, and even hotel industry have in common with the healthcare industry? Consolidation. Looking at each of these industries I think we can all agree that consolidation has not improved them. No one would say that the airlines are providing better food, larger seats, less fees, etc. or that when you call your cell phone company your wait times to talk to a human being are getting shorter. So, what does consolidation mean for the healthcare industry? Why should we be concerned that more and more doctors are now employees rather than running private practices?
Using my 20+ years of experience in the the healthcare industry from a practicing physician to a medical director to being a CEO of healthcare companies today, I give my unique insight into the dangers of consolidation in the healthcare industry and what we might expect in the future if things keep progressing down this road.
You can learn more about the dangers of your doctor being an employee by reading this op-ed piece in the Wall Street Journal by Devorah Goldman:

We already know COVID-19 won't be the last pandemic. The increased threat of pandemics is nothing new; epidemiologists have warned of the prospect of a major new illness, sometimes referred to as Disease X, for years. What have we learned from the current pandemic to help us better prepare for the next one? To better protect ourselves next time around, we need to start by analyzing the major risk factors and evaluating our current vaccine production infrastructure. COVID-19 shouldn’t be seen as a crisis that has passed, but as what could be a practice run for the main event.

Do you ever leave your doctor's office thinking, "what just happened?" I hear from patients, friends and family all the time about doctor appointments they've gone to and when asked about what the doctor said their answer is: "oh she didn't really say much." Working in the medical field for the past 20+ years, I know this cannot be the case. In today's episode I want to teach you how to better navigate your doctor appointments, how to talk to your doctor and ultimately get the most out of your doctor appointments so you leave your next visit knowing exactly what is going on with your health.

The COVID-19 Omicron variant emerged in South Africa and is the newest variant to be elevated to a "variant of concern." The question is, will our vaccines still be effective against the Omicron variant? That was the concern when the COVID-19 Delta Variant came out, and thankfully, our vaccines remain effective against the Delta Variant and even more so for those who have received the booster shot. In today's episode I go over the Omicron variant and what it says about the future of COVID-19 as we move into the year 2022.

As we are officially hitting the two year mark of the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the FDA announces booster shots are available to anyone 18 years and older. This is something I've predicted would occur in past podcasts. In today's episode I give a 2-year update of where we're currently at with the Coronavirus pandemic and what we can expect in the months to come.

Another holiday season is upon us and we are still dealing with the COVID-19 Pandemic. Continuing to put our lives on hold no longer seems realistic and a question I get all the time is, "how do I travel safely during the holidays?" There isn't a "one size fits all" answer to this question. In todays episode I go over different questions you need to ask yourself to determine how you can travel safely during this holiday season. I also go over tips and tricks that everyone can follow to increase their chances of staying safe while traveling with the Coronavirus still at large.
I was also in the Washington Post talking about how to travel safely during this holiday season and you can read the article here: https://www.washingtonpost.com/travel/interactive/2021/safe-travel-covid-holiday/

What is a PPO? What is an HMO? What are the real differences between the two? Although an HMO may be cheaper than a PPO, you need to understand what you may potentially be giving up by choosing an HMO health insurance plan. In today's episode I go over the differences between HMO's and PPO's that even Insurance Brokers may not fully understand or explain to you. This is information you NEED to know when choosing a health insurance plan whether for yourself or even for your company.

Although children have been disproportionately unaffected by the illness of COVID-19, they have been equally affected, if not more affected, by the ramifications that have manifested due to this pandemic. With depression rates in children rising, along with negative behaviors that are associated with depression (suicide, eating disorders, loss of sleep, etc.), it's important to consider all of the pros in vaccinating children for COVID-19 outside of just the health benefits they will receive.

Parents, this episode is for you. I know that deciding whether or not to vaccinate your kids for COVID-19 can be difficult. Especially knowing that children are disproportionately unaffected by this Coronavirus. That being said, some children who contract the virus do get severely ill, end up in the hospital and some even do die. In today's episode I use my many years of experience in the medical field to go over all the data we currently have across a plethora of studies so you can make the best decision for you and your family. I discuss the risks and the benefits to vaccinating your kids for COVID-19.

Medical misinformation has been brought to the forefront of the conversation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. From the nightly news to social media, everyone is trying to figure out a way to lessen the damaging effects of harmful information plaguing the internet. But what about true scientific debate? How do we differentiate between medical misinformation that has the potential to truly hurt people and scientific debate that could test what we know and continue to improve upon the foundation of medical science?
In this episode, I discuss the importance of being able to distinguish between the two through two historical case studies. One shows the importance of challenging medical information with science in the name of progress, while the other showcases the danger of misinformation that goes unchallenged in the name of profit.

Due to their recent findings, Merck and partner Ridgeback Biotherapeutics asked the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to grant emergency use authorization for their new drug, Molnupiravir, to treat adults with mild-to-moderate COVID-19 who are at risk for severe disease or hospitalization.
In today's episode, I use my biochemistry background along with my many years of experience in the medical field to dissect their study, what it could mean for the future of the Coronavirus Pandemic and explain just how Molnupiravir works. Is the COVID-19 pill a replacement to the mRNA vaccines? Is their a risk of Molnupiravir affecting your own DNA? Could this pill dramatically reduce the deaths from COVID-19? I go over all of these questions and more.

Why should children get vaccinated? If you're pregnant, should you get the COVID-19 vaccine? Who should get the COVID-19 booster? If you've been infected with COVID-19, do you still need to get vaccinated? These are some of the top questions I get asked all the time concerning the Coronavirus pandemic. It's important to stay up to date on what the current recommendations are as new data and new variants come out. As a Medical Doctor and vaccine expert, I use my many years of experience to break down the most current information so you can make informed decisions to keep you and your family safe.

While it's true that all currently authorized and recommended COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective, and reduce your risk of severe illness, there are new studies that show when compared with the Pfizer vaccine and Johnson & Johnson vaccine that: patients receive double the amount of antibodies from the Moderna vaccine , the Moderna vaccine has a higher percentage when preventing infection or hospitalization and the Moderna vaccine has a higher percentage in reducing breakthrough cases. What are the differences between the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines? Is the Moderna vaccine better than the Pfizer vaccine or the Johnson and Johnson vaccine? That answer has yet to be uncovered. As a Medical Doctor who has spent years going over medical studies, I go over these three new studies and breakdown exactly what they mean so you can make an informed decision.
At this time the CDC does not recommend one vaccine over another. It is still better and recommended to get whatever vaccine is offered to you first.
The three studies showing this emerging data are:

Many physicians contemplate leaving clinical medicine but few know how to make the transition. Becoming a doctor requires a large commitment of both time and money and many doctors are not trained to do anything else. These are just some of the hurdles physicians face when trying to leave clinical medicine. In this week's episode I deep dive into the reasons physicians want to leave clinical medicine, the challenges they face after leaving clinical medicine, and my own personal story of leaving clinical medicine to become a healthcare CEO.

While health officials are developing a plan to roll out COVID-19 booster shots to people in the U.S., many people are wondering who will be eligible for these booster shots. What exactly is a booster shot and how is the booster shot different from the first two doses of the mRNA vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna? As a medical doctor and vaccine expert, I break down the COVID-19 booster shots starting with addressing common questions about the Delta variant and ending with what we can expect moving forward with the Coronavirus continuing to exist in our lives.

The Food and Drug Administration recently approved the Pfizer Covid-19 Vaccine, officially named Comirnaty. On the 23rd of August, 2021, Comirnaty became the first vaccine under emergency authorization to receive such an approval for those 16 and over. The data gathered under the emergency authorization period was substantial and rigorously reviewed before it was handed in to the FDA for full review.
Dr. Gregory Poland, Head of the Mayo Clinic’s Vaccine Research Group and Infectious disease expert was quoted as saying, “This is a spectacular human accomplishment. Think of this from 18 months ago or so when this was identified to having hundreds of millions, billions when you look worldwide that have received a vaccine and the speed at which the science has been able to move. Amazing."
Now, being a Vaccine Expert with 20+ years of experience in Pulmonary and Critical care, I explain what this information means for us now and well into the future. I discuss what the FDA approval means, how it addresses vaccine hesitancy, how it will impact the legal world and how this impacts what we can expect as the new normal.

Most people have no idea what a hospitalist is even though it's the largest subspecialty in Internal Medicine. If you've ever been admitted to the hospital, you probably received care from a hospitalist. When did hospitals start using hospitalists and why? Well we're going to go over how in just 20 years internists, who were the doctors working in hospitals, were replaced by hospitalists. This was due to a combination of forces...

What's wrong with the US Healthcare System? A lot. But the most important point is the transaction between Medical Doctors and Insurance Companies. In this close analysis, we take a look at the problems of the US healthcare system through the eyes of the Doctors, Health Insurance Companies, and you, the Patient. How to fix the healthcare system in the US is a tough question to answer, but the underlying problems of the relationship dynamics between Doctors and the US healthcare insurance companies that employ them through incentives, restrictions, and more are integral in knowing why it doesn't work. Each of these parties play their part in the exchange and only when knowing the true issues with the American healthcare system can we begin to fix it...

Do Not Resuscitate is a touchy and somewhat controversial topic. Who decides DNR status? At what point is this decision made? What exactly does it mean to choose "Do Not Resuscitate" status? These are fairly common questions that come up around the topic. In this video I not only go over these questions, but I go deeper into the research to find out what really happens to people who choose DNR... Some of the findings are quite disturbing and, in my opinion, require further conversation. If you're interested in reading these studies for yourself, I have linked them all below.

With the COVID-19 pandemic there has been an increase in talk about vaccines. Which means I've been hearing more and more common myths around vaccines. In today's episode I discuss how vaccines work, if vaccines contain toxic ingredients, why vaccines may actually be the most natural of medications (or biologics) that you can take, why anti-vaxxers even exist, if we should be spacing out childhood vaccines, and much more.

There are different types of hospitals: Community Hospitals, Teaching Hospitals, Government Hospitals and more. Depending on which hospital you get admitted to, it could dramatically affect your medical care and experience. There are also different floors you can be admitted to in hospitals that could give you a lot of information about what kind of medical care you're going to receive. Are you going to see a hospitalist? A group of residents? Who is handling your care and what are the different types of hospital admissions?
In today’s video, I discuss the complex topic of Hospital Admissions. Knowing what questions to ask and who you're talking to, can be the difference between an efficient admission and disaster.
