Each day has enough trouble and stress. Jesus told us this much. However, the problem is not always the problem. Our response is. When we worry about the past, we get depressed. When we worry about the future, we get anxious. Don't just accept this. It is not healthy for your soul. It is worth the daily fight to monitor your soul and keep your emotions in check.
We have all experienced what it’s like to be overwhelmed or discouraged. It’s not fun, but we have a choice of whether we stay in that state or not. There are always reasons for why it happens, but the remedy is more important than the reasons. The remedy is hope. Hope controls fear. Hope casts out despair. The soul is healthy when hope is present.
We are called to love others. Jesus demonstrated this. It is one of the main markers of a true believer. It is easy to talk and think about loving others, but the fruit is measured by action. This is where the rubber meets the road. In this episode, we look at what true kindness is—that giving ourselves to others doesn’t obligate them to us. It is a sacrifice to God.
If you want a better life, you had better guard your thoughts. What you think determines how you feel and influences what you do. While many outside elements can influence your thoughts, you are the only one who is responsible for them. Only you can choose and change what it is that you are dwelling on.
We live in a world full of physical supply chain issues. However, what if we capitalized on the truth that there are no spiritual supply chain issues? It simply comes down to whether or not we invite Him into our lives. In this episode, we talk about what the Spirit supplies. When you find yourself in a tough situation, it is possible to keep confidence and joy if you remain connected to Him.
Jesus introduces and presents some of the roles of the Holy Spirit (comforter, counselor, helper, intercessor, advocate, strengthener, standby). Each of these names points towards personal, inward help. In this episode, we dive into this, looking at the 4 different, sequentially linked levels of His work in us—Spirit-born, Spirit-filled, Spirit-led, and Spirit-formed.
You can be a child of God and still do what the flesh wants. This is because of your old sinful nature. You can’t train that away—you have to defeat it. The only way you can do so is with the help of the Holy Spirit. Just like a big brother defends his younger brother, the Spirit is there to help you beat the bully that you can’t dominate on your own.
God lives in you. This is not an idea or philosophy. God, the Holy Spirit, lives within you. The reality is that you probably don’t always act or live like it though. You must increase your awareness of His presence with you and in you. How do you do this? Not by sight, but by faith. In this episode, we look at what it means to develop a relentless and absolute trust in Him.
Proverbs 26:20 says that “without wood, a fire goes out.” In this episode, we continue our discussion on fire as a symbol of the Holy Spirit. We will discuss specific examples of “fresh wood” that we must add to keep our fire burning: prayer, gratitude, worship, the Word, and others that are on fire.
Scripture is full of metaphors and imagery. Specifically, there are many symbols for the Holy Spirit—a dove, wind, water, oil, and fire. In this episode, we will look at fire. Naturally, it has the ability to purify and illuminate. In the same way, God’s presence can do this in our lives. How then do we stoke this fire so that our passion burns brightly while guarding it against the things that can put it out?
How much better would you be if Jesus Himself was with you everywhere, all the time? What if you knew there was something even better available to you right now? For the believer, the Holy Spirit lives within you. However, too many don’t recognize and take advantage of THE ADVANTAGE. In this episode, we look at the vital difference it makes when you have an ongoing revelation of the Spirit.
As many podcasts do, we're putting a pause on Inside Out for the remainder of the Summer. Take a quick listen to hear Pastor Tim's heart behind the decision. In the waiting time, you can enjoy past episodes, and look forward to new content coming in the Fall of 2023!
Jesus said we must know the things that make for our peace. One of the main things that brings peace is prayer. Praying to God is an exchange, not just an interaction. You give him your problems in exchange for His peace. When you’re feeling anxious, it’s a signal to pray. It’s the check engine light for your soul. Don’t worry about anything. Instead, pray about everything.
Situations happen on the outside. We feel and deal with them on the inside. Prayer can help us with both—the outside and the inside. It doesn’t have to be complicated. Pray simply from your heart. When you do so, God will either take care of your situation or show you what to do. Peace comes when you know that God partners with you in prayer.
We live in a world that is more anxious, angry, addicted, and confused than ever. This is because we insist on doing things our way instead of God’s way. We need to understand that God’s commands show us what gives life and what takes it away. Learn, love, and live His commands. This is where peace is found.
We have to go after the things that make for peace and get away from the things that take peace. Isaiah 48:22 says, “There is no peace for the wicked.” The inverse is also true—there is peace for the right. This episode teaches that real peace comes from doing things God’s way.
In the last episode, we looked at levels of peace and how our paths determine what level of peace we have. We covered No Peace, Peace, and Great Peace. Today, we continue this discussion, focusing on Perfect Peace and Borrowed Peace.
Conditions and outcomes in life are directional. If you’re headed in the wrong direction, you won’t get the right results. With this thought in mind, it is so important that you are heading the right way if you want your peace full. In this episode, we look at levels of peace and how our paths determine what level of peace we have.
Peace is always available, and it can always be found. However, you must understand that God’s peace is only given through relationship. So, let’s back up to the source. You will never have peace with others until you have peace with yourself. You will never have peace with yourself until you have peace with God.
Anyone can stay calm when everything is going right, but life involves constant change and challenge. As a result, people are living stressed, anxious, and fearful. What’s missing? The answer is peace. In this episode, we look at the life-changing peace that is available to the believer because of Jesus.
Today, we feature one of the most listened-to episodes of Inside Out. What you do day by day takes you to your future. Don’t live passively or sloppily. Live with intentionality. Join Pastor Tim as he discusses the importance of the disciplines and practices that help us live out the life, the plan, and the provision God has for us.
In this episode, we take a break from our traditional approach and spend a few moments offering some encouragement and prayer to start your week. Remember that there is power in believing. Something happens when we throw that lever. For every doubt you wrestle with, there is a truth in His Word. For every problem you face, there is a promise in Scripture. Where you fix your focus is a game-changer.
Jesus died so you could live. He rose so you could have a meaningful life and the power to live it. This is the central, essential truth of Christianity. Yesterday, we celebrated His resurrection. But guess what? He is still risen! In this crazy world, where life is hard, the power that raised Him from the dead is still available to help you in your everyday life.
Yesterday marked the beginning of Holy Week. This is the most important week in the history of the human race, as this is where Jesus’ life mission would be fulfilled. In this episode, we look at the importance of the Cross and why it must be preached. When Jesus was on the Cross, you were on His mind. So be mindful of the Cross this week.
Your identity has been under attack for generations by the enemy to damage and distort, in order to block and break up the flow of God’s love in your life. When you have a wrong view or estimation of yourself, it makes it hard to believe and receive His unconditional love. In this episode, we look at how to break free from the lies we often believe of ourselves, in order to love ourselves completely.
Those who are forgiven much, love much. God has forgiven us of much, so we should love him a lot—completely and wholeheartedly. His love for us shows, so our love for Him in return should show. In this episode, we look at what it means to DECLARE, DEFEND, and DEMONSTRATE our love.
There is so much and so many trying to divide and stir up hate in our world. Evil won’t stop itself. It keeps going, knowing no limits. You have to stop it. How? The answer is God’s love. Human love alone is not enough. God’s love is both His greatest force and greatest command. When we recognize that His love flows to us, it can then flow through us, changing the world around us.
Life can be tough. Certain seasons of life can be really tough. If you think that this is all there is, it gets worse from here. Beyond knowing that God will help you while you’re here, you also have to believe that there is better ahead. The best of earth is a glimpse of Heaven. The worst of earth is a glimpse of hell. In this episode, we look at the transport, reunion, and rewards associated with heaven.
Life is a vapor. It is fleeting. It is here today and gone tomorrow. So no matter how good or bad, happy or sad, you think your life here on earth is, better is coming. There is no comparison between your present hard times and the coming good times if Heaven is your eternity.
Life on this earth can be trying, but Heaven is better than anything that we could ever dream of. So how do we live heavenly-minded while still being here? Scripture says to “set your mind on things above.” This is not to say that we ignore the things of earth. Instead, stop staring, fixating, and being so preoccupied with what is going on here.
The book of 2 Corinthians says that “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.” Heaven is a real and literal place. While it contains many things that we are familiar with, it also contains much more than we can even imagine. It is a paradise where death and sorrow do not exist. How do you get there? Come to Jesus. Live for Jesus. Go to Heaven.
Everybody spends forever somewhere. Actually, there are only two possible destinations—heaven and hell. This world is not our home. We are just passing through. Our citizenship is in heaven, but we have great purpose and full provision while we are here.
Holy moments can be anywhere. However, sometimes we miss them if we are fixated on the wrong thing. When we read the account of Moses and the burning bush, God tells him to “turn aside.” If Moses hadn’t adjusted his approach, he very well could have missed God’s presence. For us, turning aside means looking away from anything that would distract us from Him.
Even in the middle of a difficult season, you can still find holy ground. Rarely is a physical place actually holy. What makes something holy is the presence of God. This is vital to understand, as His presence can be anywhere that you are. When you recognize that, it has the power to transform your life.
Our culture celebrates busyness, hustle, and the grind. Too much of the time we are known solely by our jobs, our titles, our roles, and our task lists. While these things are important, that is not what defines us. That is not the sum of who we are. We are human BEings, not human DOings. To “be” is not just something that you “do.” It is something that you continue. Further, living the Christian life is not just about a list of do’s and don’ts. It is more about some vital things that we need to intentionally “be.” In this episode, we dive into what those things are.
New year, new you, right? This is the time when we focus on bettering ourselves, attempting to make new habits, and breaking old ones. However, despite our best efforts, these resolutions can often be short-lived and influenced by external happenings. What if true success here is a result of living by our convictions? Our circumstances change. Convictions should not. In this episode, we look at the importance of having convictions and the role they play in how we live our lives.
John 1:10 says, “He came into the very world He created, but the world didn’t recognize Him.” You see, the problem then is the same problem now—not knowing who the baby was, who He’d become, and what He ultimately came to do. Christmas is all about a Savior, and everybody needs one. This season, remember that He came for you, and receive that gift.
The Christmas season can tend to magnify stress, sadness, and depression for many people. Much of this is due to seasonal affective disorder, stemming from loss, loneliness, or missing the past. It is important we remember the reason for the holiday—the celebration of the entrance of our Savior into the world. In this episode, we’ll look at some simple steps to help avoid this, remembering that He offers us both comfort and joy.
It is always better to avoid fear, but that’s not always possible. Life is made up of what we can control and how we respond to what we cannot control. That said, realize it is not just what happens to you. It is what you do with what happens to you that makes the difference. The antidote for fear is trust in God.
Fear is an umbrella term. It includes any feelings of dread, worry, anxiety, and phobias. It is historically part of the human experience and something that we all face. However, it is important to remember that there was no fear in the beginning. It entered along with disobedience. So as we look at today, it is foundational to understand that fear most often occurs when we live life and assess our circumstances without God.
There is a gap between praying and receiving. Many would call it the waiting period. It is often the hardest part, where the devil loves to operate, and your confidence can be shaken. What do you do while you are waiting? Simply put. Fill that gap with thanks and praise. Typically, we only give thanks and praise when things are good, but the reality is that they have nothing to do with our feelings or circumstances. Thanks and praise are powerful weapons that help us exercise trust while we wait on God.

As we are entering the holidays, thanks is often a major theme. The idea of a nationally recognized day, set aside for us to give thanks, is wonderful, vital, and necessary. However, it is so much more than one day. More importantly, it is an essential practice and lifestyle for believers. In this episode, we look at why gratitude is the secret sauce to a healthy, happy, Christian life.
What you say and think may seem trivial, but it is not. It impacts your life. You must understand that you were created to believe and have a belief mechanism within you. This mechanism includes your mouth and your heart. These are where faith or fear operates. As a result, they are central to creating a miracle or a mess in your life.
As you learn more and more about how God works, you will learn how to do your work. This knowledge is not just information. It is a revelation that affects how you live and conduct yourself. Find out what pleases the Lord. Get filled with the knowledge of His will. Know what matters to Him. Know how He wants things done and how He wants you to live.
We are to live and walk by faith as a lifestyle. This is important, necessary, and a priority. The devil hates faith. He wants us to live in doubt, unbelief, fear, and defeat. Why? Because once we really get a grasp on faith and discover its simplicity and power, he loses. It is faith that makes the difference.
Proverbs 8:32 says, “Now, therefore, listen to me, my children, for blessed are those who keep my ways.” This is for every area of your life. That said, faith is what pleases God. By exercising our faith in Him, we are walking in a relationship with Him. Ultimately, That relationship should inform all other relationships—marriage, family, friends, neighbors, enemies, work, food, alcohol, etc.
Pleasing God is not a mystery. It is not something that is inaccessible. It is possible to find and know what pleases Him. Whatever is pleasing to the Lord is always what is best for you. Whatever is pleasing to the Lord is always your answer.
We are to find out what pleases God and make it our aim to do so. This is not about being “good enough” or “keeping all the rules” in order to obtain His approval. Living your life to please God will simplify your life, provide clarity for every situation, eliminate guilt and shame, and increase your peace and joy.
Your reality will you, but only you can choose which direction it moves you. Will it move you towards despair and fear, or will it move you towards hope and trust? Everyone is looking for peace, but most are looking for it in the wrong places. In this episode, we learn that our reality should always move us back to God. He does everything based upon a principle and pattern. If you draw, He will draw. If you seek, you will find. If you ask, you will receive. If you knock, the door will open.
If you look around, it doesn’t take long to realize that there is brokenness and division everywhere. Peace is not found here naturally. It is actually a supplement that must be imported. In this episode, we look at how true peace on earth can only come from God. Further, the peace He provides is not the absence of problems and stress. Rather, it is a certainty that springs from hope in the midst of those things.
Much of any teaching is a warning. Warnings are meant to preserve you. They lead to prevention, and prevention is always better than rescue or repair. Today we look at one of the main reasons the enemy doesn’t want you reading the Bible. It both warns and instructs you. God is speaking to you because He loves you and knows what is best for your life.
When you look at the scriptures, there are many symbols for the Bible. It’s a sword, hammer, light, fire, mirror, water, milk, meat, and bread. In Jesus’ day, bread meant food. It was sustenance and nourishment. Just as our bodies require daily, proper nourishment, so do our spirits. We can try to fill ourselves with all kinds of substitutes that only leave us longing for something else. In this episode, we look at what it means to feed ourselves with the only thing that truly fills us—God’s Word.
Dr. Henry Cloud says, “The only time the devil has power is when there’s a lack of truth and life.” Truth and life are found in God’s Word. As a result, life is going to be the best that it can be when we have God’s Word at its center. In this episode, we will look at the fruit that’s produced when we let the Bible guide and inform our decisions, attitudes, thoughts, and views.
Attempts have been made for centuries to discount and minimize the Bible, but God doesn’t change His mind. You must go to His Word for answers and direction, not just comfort. In this episode, we look at why the most profound decision you could ever make is to give the Bible first and final authority in your life.
Stop sitting there hopeless while your Bible sits there closed. Instead of listening for a voice, start looking for a verse. The Scriptures are life-giving, life-changing, and are the main way that God will speak to you. In today’s episode, we talk through some key points of how and why Bible reading should be a consistent habit in the life of a believer.
We live in a noisy world with so many voices vying for our attention. If we are not careful, all of us have a tendency to drift away from the things of God, and towards the things of this world. It all starts when we ignore, break, alter, or reject His Word. In today’s episode, we look at the importance of returning to the fundamental authority and reliability of the Bible.
Today, we take a break from our normal flow to feature a special episode from the archives of the Nurture Network Leadership Podcast.
In this episode, we dive into the conversation of what it looks like to be "called" to something, specifically full-time ministry. Pastor Tim shares some of his personal story of when he felt pulled to plant a church in Ocala. We also take a look at how vital spiritual disciplines are to sustaining your call, as well as encouragement to young leaders who are in a season where challenges seem to outweigh the call.
NNLP is a monthly leadership podcast, hosted by Pastors Tim Gilligan and Tom Fox. If you don't already, make sure to subscribe to all episodes on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or nurturenetwork.buzzsprout.com.
Life is a continual cycle of crisis and process. Things happen to all of us, and how we process them is critical. However, many people rely on crisis mechanisms to numb or distract. This is not true healing or progress. Realize that it is not what happens to you. It is what you do with what happens to you that makes the difference. God doesn’t cause all, but He can use all. In this episode, we’ll look at two vital responses to help us to progress, move forward, and get through whatever we’re facing.
Seasons of life can be incredibly complex. Pandemics, politics, storms, social issues, relationship challenges, sickness, death, and loss of every description. So many have dealt with so much, and no single issue is without other complicating factors. This often leaves us at a loss as to how to move forward. Thankfully, God is a very present help in times of trouble, and He is our strength for all days. In this episode, we learn that there’s healing from yesterday, peace for today, and hope for tomorrow.
In the last episode on habits, consistency was a key theme. In this episode, we continue looking at the importance of consistency. Specifically, how it relates to church and anger. Those two together may seem random, but they are not. There is a danger that happens when we make the things of God optional.
It’s been said, “there’s no such thing as having no habits.” This is true. While many of your habits may be mindless, research shows that 40% of daily behavior is habit-based. Realizing this, having consistency in your habits is huge. The devil cannot cope with consistency. Further, consistency brings blessing.
Relationships are one of the most basic human needs. Live, work, play, worship, wait, travel—we “do life” with other people. We are all joined in one way or another through connections and interactions. In this episode, we look at the importance of these connections, because ultimately, you become like who you hang out with.
In the book of Ephesians, we see that God is able to do far more than we can ask or think. Not only is He able to answer your prayers, but He’s also looking to do so. Approach Him with boldness. Ask in confidence. Pray specifically about what you are believing for. This kind of prayer, in alignment with His Word, invades the impossible.
We have been given an incredible, powerful privilege to connect with the Almighty God through prayer. Talking with God is the most vital part of our relationship with Him. However, so often we pray small prayers. In this episode, we look at the importance of praying big prayers. God can handle anything, so ask Him to do the extraordinary.
If you want a better life, you had better guard your thoughts. What you think determines how you feel and influences what you do. While many outside elements can influence your thoughts, you are the only one who is responsible for them. Only you can choose and change what it is that you are dwelling on.
How you start and end your day is vitally important to the health of your soul. Consider it the take-off and the landing. The first things you do in the morning, and the final things you do at night are often what set the tone for how you live your entire life. You must be both intentional and consistent with the patterns and practices you implement during these times.
“I have hidden Your Word in my heart…” (Psalm 119:11) Hiding is what you do with what you treasure and value. We don’t just value the Word. We hide and store it within us because of its value. In this episode, we look at how to do this through the memorization of Scripture.
This episode is a continuation of our conversation about sowing to the spirit. There is a constant conflict in life between our spirit and our flesh. One leads to abundance, while the other leads to decay. Today we look at how we can strengthen our spirit, in turn giving God something to bless.
Spiritual disciplines are not just a list of do’s and don’ts. They are an intentional set of practices that you implement in your life with the goal of spiritual growth. If you want to grow in any area, there are things you will have to do. If you don’t like the harvest you are seeing, then change the seed you are sowing.
We have so many things in life that throw us off or drain us. Even if we’re full of God today, we must still refill tomorrow. Why? Because we leak. Today’s episode looks at the importance of daily exposure to and intake of the Word of God. Additionally, some of the main work of the Holy Spirit is to help you daily. This requires a posture of surrender, where each morning we invite him to be our comforter, guide, and help to stay full.
What Jesus did on the cross looked horrible and hopeless at the time, but God is a big picture God. When we look at Good Friday, it elevates the historical, the spiritual, and then eternal above the present, unpleasant, and temporary. Jesus took our place on that day, and it changed everything.
Today we look at two vital parts of starting your day on the right foot. The first is forgiveness. So many times, unforgiveness gunks up your soul. Get forgiveness, give forgiveness, and give yourself a break. The second is asking. Asking what? Ask God for what you’re believing for! He tells us to. Trust Him and take Him at His word.
We’ve all had days where nothing seems to go right. The reality is that even though you can’t control what happens, you can control how you respond to it. Much of your ability to respond properly is in how you start your day. In this episode, we’ll look at how gratitude, along with several other keys, help to send your day in the right direction.
Life isn’t static. You’re either moving forward or backward. In order to move forward and truly thrive, you need more than willpower alone. You have to understand and apply the absolute necessity of spiritual disciplines in your daily life.
What you do day by day takes you to your future. Don’t live passively or sloppily. Live with intentionality. This episode dives into the importance of the disciplines and practices that help us to live out the life, the plan, and the provision that God has for us.
When it comes to your call and responsibilities, there is a load we all must carry. However, it should not be an overload. The right load, coupled with His grace, is light. If it’s not light, then it’s not yours, or you’re carrying it wrong. In this episode, we look at how to cast our cares and hand Him the things we’re not meant to carry.
The #1 problem with praying is that we don’t. God didn’t call us to be spectators or commentators. Instead, God wants us to be participators in His plan. Whatever we’re going through in life, a vital part of God’s strategy is that we understand and use prayer as both a tool and a weapon.
Real Christianity is the outflow of His life in us. It’s not an external front. It’s a byproduct of something deeper on the inside. How do we ensure this happens in our own lives? Today, Pastor Tim walks us through three vital elements—Awareness. Stillness. Consistency.
We must give proper time and attention to our inner being. Just like a garden, our inside needs daily weeding, feeding, and watering. This is no one else’s responsibility but our own. So while we cannot control the outside, we can cultivate the inside. When we understand this, we can’t be stopped…because He is strengthening us on the inside.
Many are overly concerned with everything happening on the outside. Meanwhile, neglecting the inside. The result? Spiritual emptiness. While the enemy of our souls wants us to be hopeless and fearful, God wants us to be hope-FULL and fear-LESS. And with His help, we can be bigger and stronger on the inside than the pressure and the problems on the outside.
As a believer, happiness is available, but it’s not automatic or effortless. There are many factors that can affect our level of happiness. In today’s episode, Pastor Tim shows us that being happy is a “conditional condition.” It does not happen in our lives without our participation and cooperation with God through a growing relationship with Jesus.
