Through experiences both comical and trying, Courtney encourages mothers to live authentic, honest lives. Journey with her as she unmasks the expectations of motherhood and leans in to God’s design not only for us personally but for our children.
In this powerful and deeply personal episode, Courtney sits down with Cara Shine, a mom, teacher, and believer with a remarkable testimony of finding Jesus in the midst of chaos and fear.
Raised in the Jewish faith, Cara spent much of her early life feeling rejected and judged by the Christians around her. The bullying she endured as a child left lasting scars, shaping her view of Jesus and her sense of belonging.
But everything changed in the fall of 2002, during the terrifying three-week reign of the DC sniper attacks. As a young mom and schoolteacher paralyzed by anxiety, Cara encountered Christians who showed her the true heart of Christ through love, kindness, and courage.
What followed was what she calls a “Holy ripple effect” that transformed her life, her faith, and her purpose.
Cara’s story is one of redemption, identity, and bold obedience. If you’ve ever been afraid to share your faith, unsure of how to reflect Jesus to others, or burdened by the actions of those who misrepresented Him, this episode is for you.

Identity is the topic we are talking about this month and hearing my guest Hannah Conway remind us, it's not all about us is a reminder of what we need to be teaching our children.

Do you ever find yourself operating from a place of "getting it done?"
My guest today is Robyn Kown, ministry leader, wife and Mom to 3.
When Robyn and her husband adopted their youngest daughter at 20 months from China they knew going in that she had a physical disability in one of her legs. What they didn't know is what the ultimate prognosis and outcome would be until they returned to the states and had her evaluated by doctors.
At 13 years old Mamie has undergone 17 surgeries. Robyn shares with us, what it has been like to go through that medical journey with her daughter. The challenges both physically and emotionally they have all faced and the moment she realized she could not "get it done" alone.
Robyn's story is encouraging and it gives us hope that no matter what you're facing, it's okay to not be okay.

Today's guest on our season of HELP! My child ... is writer, Bible study mentor and mother of five, Sarah Frazer. With a background in missionary work and Bible teaching, her passion is to encourage women to start today with a Bible reading and prayer habit.
Sarah is a mom who has cried the words HELP! My child has a disability. She not only has one, but she has two children who struggle with disabilities. One with a physical disability, one with an invisible disability from emotional trauma.
Sarah sits down with me and we talk about, the struggles that they have faced, the challenges she has faced as a mom. The moment she realized "I can't fix this, I can't control this" and how God has shown up in the midst of all of it.
I know you are going to be blessed by this conversation, whether you can identify with Sarah, facing the same challenges with a child or not. I can assure you, there is hope and encouragement that you need to hear.

Today's MOM 101 tip: "Remove the ANTS"
When you neglect caring for yourself, you may end up run down physically, emotionally and spiritually. As moms we tend to take care of everyone else and believe the lie that self care is selfish.
It is NOT, and we have the control to be the best versions of ourselves in order to remove the ANTS when they try to invade.

The first two verses in Romans are a a reminder of God's ultimate sacrfice for us and his mercy. There is a call to our obedience and OUR sacrifice to surrender ourselves knowing His will for our lives is perfect and pleasing. THEN and only then can our hearts and our minds be renewed and transformed.
In today's episode we visit those verses and pray for just that, an obedience to surrender to the renewing of our hearts and minds that can only come from Jesus!

Mimika and I talk about Internal brokenness, how we must look at ourselves and do the work before we expect different results from our children. We explore questions like, What is happening in this generation where we are all becoming accolade addicted?
How do we take back our thoughts? How do we break the rules of what society tells us? How do we get back to being human "beings," NOT human "doings" and how do we model this behavior for our children?
Mimika will teach you how to unstick your mind, develop emotional resilience, and unlock high performance by becoming the boss of your brain!

Maybe you have looked back and realized this “happenstance” wasn’t happenstance at all but a kindness, a redeeming that the Lord so masterfully put into place?

Often we hide what we are struggling with, and hidden illnesses like anxiety, depression, migraines, Hashimoto's and Fibromyalgia are not easily seen by others.
As Moms, we tend to believe we are letting our families down when we aren't the “perfect” mom.
In Today's conversation with author, speaker and pastors wife, Dena Dyer we uncover how her chronic illness exposed her mask of self sufficiency. How she has removed that mask, surrendered to God’s will for her life and allowed His truth to remind her He CHOSE her as the Mom to her boys.

In the busyness of being a wife and a mom, I have often found myself putting my own dreams on the back burner. Now, I am a firm believer that God's timing is perfect, and honestly my dreams probably wouldn't have worked when my kids were younger. It doesn’t matter what your personality is, what your situation is, there is a deep longing in all of us to be seen.
It’s when we fabricate this idea in our head that if others are overlooking us, forgetting about our needs, God TOO must have forgotten about us.
Whitney Akin explains it like this:
“We feel it most in the moments we long to be remembered. When we wish that someone, anyone could say the right words, take away the pain, fix the problem, and rescue the day. Or we assume God has forgotten to take notice because is there really anything worth noticing?”
Hagar knew when she was found that it was God who saw her.
She answered God by name, praying to the God who spoke to her, “You’re the God who sees me! Genesis 16:13
And he sees YOU!

Shy, introverted, self-conscious, slightly awkward and OVERLOOKED… adjectives today's guest uses to describe how she has felt most of her life. She has worn the mask of “I’m Good” in an attempt to NOT draw attention to her needs. BUT GOD… he met her right in those moments and reminded her Dear girl, you are seen by Me.
Whitney Akin is the author of Overlooked: Finding Your Worth With You Feel All Alone. Behind every victory, there is a mom celebrating!
Behind every struggle, there is a mom crumbling!
Behind every Mom, there may be simultaneous feelings of celebration and crumbling.
The most consistent mask I wear is the mask of a brave momma who can face anything in the eyes of her children.
But that is not always the way I am on the inside. I am processing the world around us, the struggles we may be facing that the kids know nothing about, worrying about one or more of the kids and their lives, planning and organizing our home, our lives, and other responsibilities I may have.
Oh, and praying through ALL of it.
No matter what we face, God sees us. The challenge is, do we see each other?
When was the last time you called a friend for coffee?
When was the last time you sent a text asking, how are you?
When was the last time you opened your home for a meal, even when the dishes are dirty to build community?
I am guilty of not doing any of the above enough. But in the world today we need to be practicing seeing each other the way God sees us and in order to do that, we have to open the doors to our homes and our hearts.
No matter what we need to know that Momma, you are seen by God, always and forever!

Rizpah? Who?
This Momma isn't one very well known amongst the moms we learn about in scripture. Tucked deep in a few verses in 2 Samuel 21, Rizpah's story is one of crime, bloodshed, and a moms mourning and sacrifice.
Her example of sitting vigil over her children's bodies, reminds me that as I stand by and watch God's plan for my children, my greatest responsibility as their mother is to sit vigil over their hearts, minds, lives and futures.
The story of Rizpah, True Crime and True Faith at it's finest.

When God calls you to lay it down, how willing are you? My guest last week, Carol Kent, shared her story of surrendering her son JP completely to the Lord. The faith that it took, the freedom she has found in sharing their story with others and how joy is possible amidst hard circumstances.
"I pray for moms out there whose children have made wrong choices that have been devastating, not only to them, but to their families, to, to those who are in their sphere of influence, who hurt for them. And Lord I pray. That we would as moms choose to seek your face first and to get our joy and our strength from your word.” ~Carol Kent

Today's guest, Carol Kent, shares with us how she had to unmask shame and guilt and pursue unshakable faith since her sons conviction and imprisonment for first-degree murder. Her story will encourage you, and inspire you to run to Jesus despite the circumstances.

School is out, summer is here! How are you spending your summer? Todays MOM 101 tip... Use this summer to take time for each kid individually! I saw a meme this week that said and several of you shared it... "You are “guaranteed” 18 summers with your kids, make them count!"
Well… maybe and maybe not. We are not guaranteed anything, other than the moment you are currently in. We can show up, be present, listen more intently, look up from your phone, plan a date, grab an ice cream, or watch a movie. Talk about the hard things, laugh at the silly things, stay up late, and sleep in.
Summer is the perfect time to set time aside for each individual kiddo. They need to be seen by you, heard by you and made to feel special.
I can guarantee this, when they know how much they are a cherished part of your family, when they are adults they will want to come home.

Relationships can be messy and hard. Last week my guest shared she is praying for relationships on all levels:
"I do believe that if there's one thing that the enemy is very successfully attacking right now, it's relationships, marriages. Parent-child relationships, sibling relationships, church leadership. There's a lot of division and I'm praying very specifically and strategically that we would be delivered from that attack and that our relationships would grow stronger.” Tamera Rasmussen
You have heard the saying hurt people hurt people? We have to find healing for ourselves, we have to unmask our own brokenness, seek God amidst it and allow Him to carry us home.

Last week in my conversation with Brittany Estes, we talked about the negative scripts we tell ourselves, and the scripts we have held onto that have been spoken over us. Her book “Flip The Script” encourages us to identify where we are allowing those lies to penetrate deep in our hearts and souls for God's light to reveal them and to heal them. Brittanys prayer is for us to realize how we are like prisms, when God’s light shines upon us, we then refract and reflect that Light to others. The verse she shared was:
Mathew 5:14-16 the message version:
‘Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.”
Pray with me today for us to be HIS light reflectors!

Hagar and Sarah's relationship was one laden with guilt, envy, anger and jealousy. Both women attempted to take matters into their own hands, and both failed.
In the wake of the manipulation Hagar attempted to escape, as if running ever makes things better. This was when El Roi, God who sees came to her to remind her, she was in fact seen and heard by Him. In a dry desert, where she felt desperate, the Angel of the Lord appeared to her.
In today's episode, let's look at how so often on the surface we may look ok, but in reality deep down we are dry and parched by life. Only El Roi, the God who sees us, deep within our souls knows the true water we need to survive.
John 7: 37-39 Jesus once again speaks of living water, saying, “'Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them. ' By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive.

It was a moment when her boys were little and she felt exposed that she couldn't "control" her boys that she knew she needed God's direction she was reminded of 2 Corinthians 12:9, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.

How much do you desire what you don’t have? Have you ever had your heart set on something you wanted so badly only for it to not work out? Maybe in your younger years it was a relationship, or a college acceptance. Maybe a job, a house, a husband or children?
This week on the Unmasking Me series, we visit another friend God sent me to show me an example of how to wait!
None of us like to wait, but there is beauty in the process. Growth when it feels nothing could be growing in this dry, desserted place of waiting. Wait for the Lord, His timing is perfect and the fruit is worth it!
Psalm 27:13-14 says, “I remain confident of this: I will see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living. Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the Lord.”

Coming from the corporate world of tasks and success, to full time motherhood my guest today stripped away this notion of having to be “professional” at all times. Through multiple learning curves, a community who believed in her, the help of a mentor and a deadline that spoke to her type A "get it done" personality. God has revealed a side to her that she has kept buried for quite some time. Beth Ann has become a children's book author.
We talk about unmasking that professional persona, and how this has allowed her to see her real identity and has freed her from the expectations of others.
We also talk about how easy it is to find ourselves on an island, thinking independence is a sign of strength and proves value. How “you did it” is not a pedestal we want to be on, it’s lonely and not life giving.

Keep showing up!
That is a message we all need to hear. Being a mom is hard, Tara Cole is a college professor, author, speaker, podcaster, and mom to 3 energetic boys. She also understands the challenges of motherhood. After a season of thinking she had to do it ALL and in her own strength, she knew God was telling her to rest!
After a time of rest she continued to feel weary and was ultimately diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Through surrender she has been able to lean into what God is teaching her through this diagnosis. It’s ok to not do it "all," to prioritize what is in important in each of the places He has called her to show up. She wants other moms to listen to where God wants you, lean in and abide in Him, only then you will be able to accomplish more than you could have ever done in your own strength.

I felt a crippling loneliness, not that I wasn’t surrounded by a lot of people physically, I was. Between my home, my volunteering, my friendships, my children's activities, there really weren’t very many times I was physically alone. Yet, I felt alone. I didn’t have a single person in my life that could understand the magnitude of my pain, worry and helplessness.
I knew the presence of God was equally evident. As an escape and a desperate plea to find comfort, I began to pray asking God to send me other mothers whom I could identify with.
Today on the show I want to introduce you to my first friend, Eve.

Disclaimer: Today on the show my guest and I talk extensively about miscarriage. The grief of that experience, the weight miscarriage can take on your physical and spiritual well being, as well as that of your spouse. If you or anyone you know of has experienced this loss, Cassie and I hope this episode will remind you, you are not alone and reignite your hope in Jesus.
Cassie shares how she opened her heart and surrendered her desire to have children to the Lord, the moment a bus driver in Uganda shared a word from the Lord with her and how her trust and belief has carried her. We also get down to the nitty gritty of pregnancy and the changes in our bodies that no one ever wants to talk about.

Happy Happy New Year! How is it 2023? Anyone else overwhelmed by the New Year? The expectations? So many options to be healthier, better, more spiritual, more organized, more, more, more, better, better, better.... UGH It's been so daunting and not encouraging me at all.
Everyone has a solution of how to be the best version of yourself, the healthiest, the most scripturally sound, the most focused, or organized, and I was really feeling overwhelmed by all of it. And as you would know it, as I was organizing some of my documents on my computer low and behold there was a lesson I taught back in 2021 that reminded me, I don’t have to do it all… I can do a little…

As the Holidays approach there is so much for us to anticipate. The anticipation of family gatherings, gift giving, traveling, spending time with our loved ones, there can also be anticipations that hurt or suffocate us. The anticipation of how a family gathering may go, will the prodigal child return home, the anticipation of celebrating without loved ones present.
Amongst all of the emotions of the Holidays, anticipation can be a doozy, when we are anticipating the wrong thing. The anticipation of Christs birth is where are hearts and minds should be focused. Today on the show we pray that our minds be turned to Jesus and the suffocation of anticipation be removed as we rest in Him.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We will see you in 2023!

Do feel "fine?" Maybe you think you are but deep down you feel as though you are holding on by a thread.
Today on the show I am chatting with a friend, mentor and fellow Mom Stacey Thacker. Stacey is an author, speaker, hope giver and she’s a believer! Not just in the Lord, but Stacey believes in others, and she has the gift of encouraging others to walk through the weary and to believe in what God has called you to do.
Stacey and I talk about removing the mask of "fine." We visit where the root of our masks come from and as Stacey says, "don’t be fooled most masks have a BFF"
I hope you are as encouraged by this episode as I was in the interview as Stacey points us to where our hope comes from, HE will not slumber and grow weary.

We had quite the weekend over here in Houston! The Astros won the World Series, and I would be remiss if I didn't also acknowledge that the Tigers beat Bama! Both games were an incredible display of athleticism and discipline.
This week on the show I visit with a friend who happened to run a half marathon this weekend as well. Another great example of perseverence and committment. But none of these accomplishments would be possible without practice.
On this weeks episode, Amber Cullum and I discuss unmasking control. We visit on topics such as depression, anger, family dynamics and how they set the stage for our future parenting strategies.
How to recognize what is healthy and what we want to bring into our families and where we need to stop generational dysfunction.
Like the athletes I watched this weekend and the training Amber put in for this marathon. We need to start practicing! Practicing apologizing, practicing giving ourselves grace, practicing the spiritual discipline that we long for.
Nothing is accomplished without practice.

Today's episode is a little different. Years ago I taught on Luke 2 and the story of Jesus being lost. I think we could all relate to losing someone, or being lost.
In those lost seasons, I believe when we learn from the life of Jesus and focus on the "must" we will quickly find our way back.

Part 5 of Unmasking Me..."Helpless NOT Hopeless"
15 years ago was the first time I realized how little control I had. I had no defense. I was stripped of any notion that I could be his savior.
I could not, and I should not!
This was when the image of Mary being a bystander in Jesus' life jarred me to the reality that I to, would ultimately be a bystander in my children's life. Helpless was the word but the imagery of Mary reminded me that it was not Hopeless.
I remember exactly where I was standing. In the driveway of our home, tears flowing, anger burning from within, my emotions in all of their glory had to be hidden from the other kids. There was no way they would understand why Mommy was so sad.
As if we had not already been through enough, we had been “home” less than 5 months. Two years of moving, renovating, putting the pieces of our lives back together from a storm that had ripped them to shreds, and here we are. This time our hearts are being torn apart.
On more than one occasion, I have felt a crippling loneliness in our circumstances and God has provided stories in his word of Mother after Mother who I could find similarities with that would point me from helpless back to the hope I would find in Him.

We are keeping the conversation going of unmasking comparison. This topic began to resonate with my guests so I am sharing another episode because I truly believe God is sending a clear message to all of us.
This week my guest is Chrissy Huffman. Chrissy and I dig into the notion that we have to “keep up” and the overwhelming belief that she had to be everything for everyone! Can't we all relate!
We also talk about how we can get caught limiting our beliefs…when we believe what others have told us, we believe lies that we tell ourselves, and we believe what society says about us.
If and when we do that we are also limiting what God says about us!
In addition to being a mom, Chrissy is a ministry leader, licensed coach and certified ennegram coach.

Part 4 of Unmasking Me. “What and If”…two words that I have given entirely too much credit.
It’s part of what prompts the masking of my fear, shame, guilt and insecurities. What if I had… he had, she had, we had!
We could all look at life through the “what if” lens. The worry and prideful lens that questions Gods sovereignty.
He is either good, or He isn’t! He is either all knowing, all powerful creator or He isn't. There is no in between.
I on the other hand, well, I am either a sinner… or a sinner. There is no in between. So my "what if" process is futile! Sure I could have made different or better choices but God is not surprised by my poor decisions. God is not surprised by my pain. What if, God was there all along? This is a lens I prefer to view past pain and hurts through. God present every step of the way! What if I trust Him?

Do you find yourself in the game of comparison? "She's doing it better, I should have done it like her? They seem to have it all together?" We have all gone down that rabbit hole.
Today on the show I am chatting with Ashley Moore. Ashley shares with us her advice on removing the mask of comparison. We talk about the legacy she wants to leave her children. She doesn’t want them to see her as a perfect mom but rather a mom who followed Jesus and was yoked to Him.
Ashley is a ministry leader in her local church, writer, and host of be the two™ podcast. Using passionate storytelling, she encourages readers and listeners to abide, obey, and impact their spheres of influence for Christ. In zip lining the only thing that really matters is the harness. Is the harness good enough to hold you? Fitted to you appropriately, capable of withstanding the trip across the line? All the rules they tell you about how to get to the other side are futile, if the harness is wrong.
Jesus is the harness on this ride we call life! HE is good enough. Today on the show I share how hard I tried to be "good enough." How I longed to fit in as a child, how I learned to wear masks and how my relationship with my moms helper Hivanna, taught me that because of Jesus, I was in fact enough.

With her daughter, just 5 years old at the time of the accident, Theresa realized her definition of a “good” mother was all wrong.

Do you like order?
Do you like to be productive?
Do you feel "in control" when your to-do list has been checked twice and things have been marked complete?
Todays episode with Joelle Jensen @firstlovewomen is a good one! Joelle is a momma of 4, founder of First Love Ministries and sibling to 8…
We chat about what it was like comparing herself to her own mother. How for a time Joelle didn't feel like she was measuring up until she realized, the patience her mother exhibited was something that she had learned over time and that she needed to give herself grace.
Motherhood has shown her how idolizing order, triggered impatience and her productivity did not equal success.
God doesn’t want us to be so productive we miss His purpose for us, Joelle has shifted how she measures her success and surrenders her “to do” list to him every day. It has given her freedom to be a better mother and to love others and herself as Christ commanded.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY Masquerade of Motherhood!
I love birthdays, I especially LOVE cake. When my kids were younger I wanted elaborate cakes and back then no one made 3D cakes.. so fun fact about me, I figured it out and did it myself.
The thing about a birthday cake, it makes a statement, sets the theme for the party. Cakes can also be deceiving, what is beautiful on the outside may not be that great on the inside, or it may be even better than imagined. You don’t know until you dig in.
On this one year birthday of the podcast I am hopeful that what you have heard this first year will only get better as we dig in!. I want to thank a few people who made this possible.
Stacey Thacker @staceythacker, mentor, friend, author and encourager. She is the first person who spoke the words, “you should have a podcast." I am so grateful she believed in me.
Angie Elkins @angiebrownelkins taught me all I needed to know to launch this baby into the world. Answered all my crazy questions, and has always encouraged and believed in the M.O.M. show.
My niece, Alysia @alysiajdavis that listens to every episode in the car rider line. If no one else listens, she does!
To all the listeners and Moms who I have interviewed this year, THANK YOU!
But, what about my story? Where did "masquerade" come from?
That’s a hard one, because it is easier to ask the questions than to answer them. I have prayed about this, asked others their thoughts, and with all clarity, God spoke…
Unmask YOU!
My story is long and complex so this season, I will continue to have interviews, Prayer Tuesdays, and share my new series, “Unmasking ME”
This is coming to you with a lot of prayer, from a raw, honest and extremely vulnerable place. My hope all along is for Moms to find their identity in Christ, not in the successes and failures of our parenting. For Moms to feel welcome and supported, to meet each other in the messy middle and encourage each other through prayer and community.
Here is my story

You have heard today’s guest this summer during our Fruit of the Spirit series. Sarah Wood is a ministry leader, Bible teacher, and content writer with a passion for discipleship. Sarah serves on the Ministry Strong team with Lisa Whittle, yet her most beloved role is that of Mom.
We dig deep into where our identity is rooted and the foundation we need to raise the next Gospel sharing generation. The inheritance that God promises is not perfect circumstances, the inheritance He promises is Himself. How do we live our lives with this perspective despite our seasons of change, and teach it to our children? Find out in today's episode.
My conversation with Sarah is honest and vulnerable as we explore unmasking appearances.

Yesterday I spent most of the day talking with other moms about letting go. From a sweet friend dropping her one year old off to her first day of preschool to friends who were bringing there daughters to college hours away from home.
Ironically, the calls came amongst my own tear filled eyes as I processed the changes charging at me over the next two weeks. Another one leaving for college and our youngest entering his last year of elementary school at a new school. Both lending themselves to new seasons in their lives and in my life.
Seasons of change…
The question that came up from all of them, is “How?” How do I do this? How do I say goodbye, how do I leave them, how do I deal with the quiet in my house?
On today's episode I attempt to answer these questions to the best of my ability.

Where is summer ? How in the world is it already August? Schedules are beginning to ramp up, kids are leaving for college. It is like I blinked and summer was over.
This week on the episode we are praying for wisdom and discernment. The summer series on the Fruit of Spirit was a great reminder that I need to consistently abide in Christ...remain in prayer, reamin open, remain in willingness to listen, remain in His love for me.
With decisions facing each of us, me included, I am praying for wisdom and discernment on the next steps. The strength to be vulnerable and the patience to wait on the Lord's direction.

This summer series has been so full of wisdom and encouragement and today's final episode truly wraps up what I believe each of our guests has taught us... We are not capable of possessing any of these qualities without abiding in Jesus and being open and willing to hear the guidance of the Holy Spirit in our lives.
Our guest today is Sarah Wood. Sarah makes several powerful points on what self-control is and how we can achieve it, despite our sinful nature.
As a mom of 3, Sarah knows what it is like for self-control to be tested, with constant pivots, interruptions and demands, exercising self-control can be a moment by moment task.
When we abide in His spirit, it doesn’t mean we rebuke or emotions when we are struggling, or stifle our feelings of frustration, we don’t have to become a slave to the sinful thoughts we may think, we can bring ALL of them to Jesus and ask him to sort them out. He will respond when all we want to do is react.

Welcome back to our Fruit of the Spirit series. This week our guest is my Canadian friend, Leah Rempel. Leah shares a time when if felt as though God had abandoned her, she felt alone and that her prayers were hitting a wall versus the ears of God.
But even though she was feeling this way, simultaneously she knew God was enough for her and that He loved her. The relief was to hold onto the truth that God IS who He says He is.
God is faithful!
What does faithfulness really look like in our lives? Believing and trusting God in our lives is faithfulness. Trust that our prayers are heard, trust that he never stops pursuing us, that he is who he says he is.

In this week’s episode on the fruit of the spirit we are talking about joy. Where do we find it, how do we share it? Are happiness and joy the same thing?
The answer to that last question, is no. Happiness and joy are not the same and there is a common misconception that they are. We tend to find happiness in things, new cars, food, material things, but often that happiness is fleeting and those “things” don’t really provide joy.
Happiness is what happens to you;
Joy is what is produced IN you.
Happiness depends on happenings but joy depends on Christ.

Today is the first day we start exploring each of the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Our verse last week was
Galatians 5:22-23
But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Love being the first one. What does love look like? Sure you may say “it’s the feeling I have for my husband” or "I love my children."
I love my family, my friends, I love Jesus. Speaking of, how does scripture define love?
In this weeks podcast we explore how scripture teachs us what love truly is.

SUMMER IS BACK!! I don't know about you but I LOVE Summer! No schedules, no alarm clocks, no homework... all the NO's! Yet, summer can also be a very busy time for us as Moms when all the kids are home. More meals, more laundry, more entertainment, because the dreaded "I'm bored" is bound to creep in.
To honor your family time, as well as mine, this summer we will be doing a series on the Fruit of the Spirit. Paul’s message to the Galatians is you have been set free to live free. Which means living differently, living lives that honor our Heavenly Father. We can’t try harder, we can’t do this on our own, we aren’t a one woman show, it’s not about trying, it is on relying on the power of the Holy Spirit.
Though the summer is a busy time for Moms, I want to encourage you to stay connected to God’s word, don’t stop praying because the kids are home, don’t put that daily scripture reading on the back burner, don’t forget to take time for yourself and lean into God’s word and allow the spirit to guide you to bear much fruit in the presence of your children.

Prayer for The Prodigal!
On the heals of Mother's Day I couldn't help but wonder, am I the only one?
Am I the only Mom simultaneously celebrating and mourning?
Am I the only Mom who is missing a piece of her heart?
Whether you have lost a child, or have a lost child, celebratory days bring a mix of emotions. So today on Prayer Tuesday I want to pray for the prodigals, and their mothers. You are not alone, God sees you, holds you and more importantly loves you. He will strengthen you to endure this trial.
James 1:12
Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.

Today on the show I am chatting with Amy Carney. As a mother to 6 children, Amy realized she was reacting her way through motherhood and this what not what she had envisioned for her family at all. In 2014 Amy and her husband Keith pulled out of “life” They pulled the kids out of all activities, her husband left his job for a bit, they bought an RV and traveled for 7 months. This was a reset her family needed and it shifted the way they parent… now they Parent on Purpose: which is also the title of Amy’s book. What if we didn’t conform to what culture tells us is important when raising kids today? Amy shifted from surviving motherhood, to thriving in motherhood.
We may step on a few toes because we talk about the hustle and business of organized sports, what we sacrifice in our families as we try to “keep up” and how parenting 6 years in advance creates a more proactive approach versus a reactive approach.

Prayer Tuesday! Episode 32 of Masquerade of Motherhood Anyone else feeling a little teary eyed anticipating the end of school? This year we have not one but TWO graduates, I sure didn't think that one through.
We are sending one off to college, though he is #5 it isn't any easier. And one into the real world of adulthood, job, bills, benefits and all. My prayer today is from Joshua 1:9
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”
For context this is a commandment just as the Israelites, led by Joshua, are about to cross the Jordan River. They are launching into unfamiliar territory just like our kids are doing. In verse 9, this is the third time God says to Joshua, BE STRONG AND COURAGEOUS! Above all else as you prepare to enter a new territory, do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go!
This is a great reminder for Mommas who are having to let go, and for our kids to know that God is with them as they cross on to the next phase of life.

Young Mommas, this one is for you. My guest today is Kayla Dick @anchoredlifewithkayla. Kayla is a young mom who speaks openly about her struggles with anxiety and the mask of perfectionism.
She shares with us how she had to learn to start her day with God and likened it to picking up her sword versus ending her day and using God as a bandaid. Kayla learned that it is best to be gracious to herself because God is gracious to her and it’s ok to not be perfect!
Kayla is a registered nurse and uses her youtube channel (linked in the show notes of the podcast) as an avenue where she is encouraging women in the areas of marriage, motherhood, and mental health.
Psalm 55:22-23
Cast your cares on the Lord
and he will sustain you;
he will never let
the righteous be shaken.
But you, God, will bring down the wicked
into the pit of decay;
the bloodthirsty and deceitful
will not live out half their days.
But as for me, I trust in you.

Today on the show I am chatting with Whitney Kinne about unmasking performance. After leaving corporate America to be a stay at home mom, she realized she was being easily influenced by the connections around her and not intentionally reflecting and knowing the identity that Christ had given her. Though it was a purification process, she was reminded that her relationship with Christ was personal and individual, not performance based and How she needed to hold her expectations of motherhood more loosely.
We visit the subject of being aware of the culture you are placing yourself in, and the “woe is me” mentality which can rob you of seeing the joy of motherhood even in the mundane. When we focus on the negative, we fail to see the joy and how as Mothers we need to be consistently seeking God. Our faithful obedience in the next 20 minutes is more important than in the next 20 years.
Jeremiah 17:7-8
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in him.
They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream.
It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

The storms of life happen to all of us, some big, some small but in any case a storm is a storm. What rocks my boat, may not rock yours. When we are shaken by the storms of life we tend to get anxious. In Luke 8 the disciples were shaken by a literal storm while Jesus rested. They woke him asking, "don't you care?" we are going to drown. I love his response.... "where is your faith?"
Where is your faith? If your memory is anything like mine, I have a hard time remembering what I ate for lunch much less scripture. But this verse, I can remember..."Where is your faith?"
In my anxious thoughts, in my tendency to worry when I remember where my faith is then I can rest knowing Jesus is in control.
Luke 8:25 "where is your faith?" he asked his disciples.

Have you ever felt like your responsibilities and calling were colliding? Today on the show I have the pleasure of speaking with Mary K Tiller. Mary K is a writer, a mom, a wife, and a professor at a local university. She shares with us how she unmasked her capability, and in doing so realized that what she does and who she is … is enough. She shares some practical, empowering tools for how we can accomplish what God has called us to do, while simultaneously being mom and wife. Mary K shares a story of how God showed up and used a peach tree to reveal to her she was over producing, overwhelmed and on the brink of breaking. We talk about how with God’s help she was able to prune back her “to-do’s” and how being strategic with her time has allowed her to feel at peace with progression.

This episode may surprise you... Yes, I am praying with urgency for the Ukrainian people, as well as the Russian people. ALL who are involved in the horrific terror of war that is happening.
I am also praying for President Putin.... GASP! And I am not praying for horrible things to happen to him, I am praying for his heart, I am begging God to transform his thoughts and desire for evil. Is there none other than the Lord who can change the trajectory of this mans destruction? I don't believe there is. So I will pray for him.
When Paul wrote this letter to Timothy, he is instructing him to pray for ALL people, including the kings and those in authority, even those we don't agree with.
We may feel helpless, but we are not hopeless. When nothing makes sense, when we don't know how to help we can in fact PRAY, God hears our prayers.
Join me on today's episode as we pray the people, the leadership and yes the enemy in this war.
1 Timothy 2:1-2
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
Are you an "imposter?" Have people looked at you and said these words, "I don't know how you do it?" Yet, inside you are barely hanging onto this idea that you can do it ALL right? Today on the show with Kona Brown we are unmasking imposter syndrome the “I don’t know how she does it” mask. Kona shares her desire to be a high performance mom and do everything correctly because she was deathly afraid of failing as a mom. This led to crippling fear and worry. Kona had allowed the measure of her motherhood to be dictated by how good she was doing and how much she was doing versus what God’s measurement of Motherhood is. She shares the realization that being a faith filled mother versus fear filled mother is what God wanted for her.
Kona is the author of the book “Mommy Diaries” having intentional conversations that shape a biblical worldview in our kids.

A lot of us have parts of our body that we may not be comfortable with but how does a 14 year old little girl, training in a preprofessional ballet company face the struggle of developing quickly and growing larger than expected.
Carrington shares the struggle she had as her body changed. What it was like to be judged by others close to her, how as her mother I should have listened more and the battle she had with God.
"If you don't make mistakes, why does this body of mine, feel like a mistake?"
What life is like after surgery and how she sees now, God didn't make a mistake at all. He is using her experience to help others.
1 Samuel 16:7
For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”

In Genesis God created man IN HIS OWN IMAGE, yet we question our self worth.
On todays episode of Prayer Tuesday, we pray for God to give us eyes to see ourselves the way He sees us. To guide us in reframing the negative thoughts we tend to have for ourselves into positive thoughts, recognizing we are created according to HIS design.

Hetal shares how the word "busy" became a prideful excuse and how removing that language has helped her look at the people outside of her "to do" list and realize that nothing is more important than being there for those you love.

Forgiveness can be so hard in marriages. As individuals struggling with our own sin tendencies, it is easy to point the finger and disregard our responsibility in a disagreement. Sometimes we just simply had a bad day and we are not our best, I don't know about you but my spouse gets the brunt of my bad mood. Forgiving one another should not be so hard. After all, despite our sin Christ forgave us. Shouldn't we at least work to live a life where we forgive and say I am sorry to those we love?

Bethsaida...a place of solitude.
Luke 9:10 says "when the apostles returned, they reported to Jesus what they had done. Then he took them with him and they withdrew by themselves to a town called Bethsaida."
I bet with Christmas being about a week away, all of you would contend you are busy.
In today's episode, I share a little about how Jesus was busy yet took the time to rest and to be flexible with the crowds.
He models for us exactly what we need to recharge and prepare our hearts for this holiday season. My prayer is that we can focus on what is important, have endurance, peace and joy in the coming weeks.

How she counseled her through addiction, and the event that led to Colleen ultimately becoming Peters Mom. Colleen shares with us how the shame of her own abandonment as a child led to deep feelings of guilt as a mother.
How Christ has reminded her that she was chosen for Peter and the beautiful way her pain of her past and the pain of his present are so intricately and perfectly woven together. How they live an abundant life of service to others being the hands and feet of Jesus.

Advent...a season of expectant waiting. A time of anticipation. Are you preparing your heart?
On todays episode I share a story that despite what we may be going through, joy can be found.
How Christmas is so much more than a baby born in Bethlehem and when we prepare our hearts we will see that the Christmas story began at creation.
As early as Genesis 3 scripture begins to build the anticipation that Joy (capital J for Jesus) is coming.
Starting this Wednesday, December 1st join me on a journey "Beholding Advent." A 24 day devotional through each chapter of the book of Luke.
Beholding Advent
Todays scripture, Psalm 98 was used in the creation of one of the most beloved Christmas songs, Joy to the World, written by Isaac Watts.
