Richard Cuff
Richard Cuff is East Coast Regional Marketing Director for Breakaway Funding. He has spent over 35 years as a successful social entrepreneur and small business community advocate. After proudly serving in the U.S. Army – including tours in Germany and South Korea – he returned to the Miami, FL inner-city neighborhood in which he grew up to start a management company that provided consulting services and personal coaching to small business owners.
As Executive Director of a Jacksonville, FL-based non-profit capacity building organization he developed the nationally recognized Guiding Success Program – a kindergarten to college pathway initiative for preschool students – to encourage literacy through entrepreneurship and the arts. Richard is a graduate of Jacksonville University’s Davis School of Business with a major in Marketing and Business Management. He is a recipient of the Jacksonville Business Journal’s 2014 Diversity Award.
About the Workshop
The lure of self-employment is strong, and as tough economic news leads to increased corporate downsizing and rising unemployment, many find that they are suddenly faced with the wonderful opportunity to step out on faith and give business ownership a try.

Only Love Will

2:40 in the morning and I couldn't sleep at all,
I was awakened by in an image in my mind.
It came with a thought so very deep,
An answer to a question I long sought to find.
I first asked this question in the rhyme of a song
Through lyrics I penned over twenty years ago.
Back then drug dealers were killing my community
And I said words because I just wanted to know... in Overtown.
Doesn't take much I'm sure you'll agree
To bring a town down to its knees.
Tell me who says a man simply has the right
To wear a badge and take another man's life.
The world is watching and everyone can see,
The toll it takes on a community.
But what will the children say, and how will they feel?
They were there when their brother was killed... in Overtown
I've been told that a man is innocent
until he is proven guilty
In a court of law
by a jury of his peers.
But where was justice that winter night
When a man was shot down?
How could she be blind to all the pain behind
A mother's tears? ...In Overtown
Tell me brothers is it true?
Do you do the things they say you do?
A shattered stone, from a powered line,
Is it worth it all the time?
You see the little baby, she never knew
her mother's habit would hurt her too.
But where's this stuff coming from?
Please tell me so.
I know it rains,
But I've never seen it snow... in Overtown.
Now, twenty years have passed and nothing much has change
Except the little babies are a lot bigger now,
And they walk with their pants down for all to see
As if to prove their manhood somehow.
Some people fear them, most don't understand
Just how they could dress themselves that way.
Something learned in prison is said to be the cause
But it's much deeper than that I would always say.
And then I saw this image that woke me up
And from a deep sleep I came to comprehend
Why someone would walk with their pants pulled down
And not care if they showed their own rear end?
These are the children of the walking dead,
They are the spirits of those that were lynched in the trees.
You see, while their bodies dangled with a noose around their necks,
Their pants also hanged down toward their knees.
So, what are we to with the walk dead among us?
Is it possible to set things right?
Well, if hatred has brought them to this place so dark,
Then only love will bring them to the light.

This Motivating Moment by Richard Cuff
Cherish the Small Victories
I’m Richard Cuff and I want you to know that building self confidence doesn’t have to be a difficult process. In today’s message I’ll give you a strategy that can help develop a more confident you . . . right here, right now in this motivating moment.

I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, 'Go, throw yourself into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him.
As I was stepping onto an escalator a man and his three year old son were ahead of me. After a brief moment of hesitation, the little one confidently stepped on for the ride upward. Suddenly with a tremendous smile, looking at his dad, he threw both arms up and exclaimed, "I did it!" It was the first time he had met that challenge and it meant a small victory for that little boy, yet it’s one that he will not forget. Remembering to cherish the small victories as an adult is the key to building a more confident you as well.
You don’t have to be afraid to face new challenges. Take the time to cherish finishing that special project. Celebrate not breaking your diet today. Enjoy the honor bestowed by friends. Remember there is greatness within you and know that it surfaces more and more with each small victory. Eventually you will face the one giant that has terrorized you for quite some time and after you come out victorious you too will confidently say, “I did it!” . . . right here, right now, in this motivating moment.
Dear God, thank you for giving me the confidence to accomplish any task I set my mind to, Amen.
